LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Mathematics is an indispensable tool for engineering sciences. This course aims to increase the ability of
thinking and methods of teaching mathematics, engineering field is applied.
COURSE STRUCTURE:
Classroom lessons: 3 hours per week theoretical foundations.
TEXTBOOK:
• Balcı Mustafa, Genel Matematik, Balcı yayınları, 2003.
• Murray R.Spiegel, Advanced Calculus (Schaum’s outlines), Mc Graw Hill, 1997.
SUGGESTED RESOURCES:
•
Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications, 4th Edition, Kenneth H. Rosen, AT&T Laboratories, 1999.
•
Advanced Engineering Mathematics, 7th Edition, Erwin Kreyszig, Wiley, John & Sons, 1992.

The Limits of Mathematics, Gregory Chaitin, Hardcover, 1998.
GRADING:
Closed notes, one written midterm and one written final exam is done. Raw achievement score, 60% of final
exam score, mean scores of midterms will be calculated when attached to 40%. To be successful achievement
of the need to have at least DD or higher. AA, BA, BB, CB, CC (raw performance score in between the notes,
100-70) notes are the unconditionally successful. DC and DD (69-60 raw score between the success of the
notes) is not successful are conditional.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Students, 70% had to continue programmatic activities in the lesson.
TOPICS: (14 Weeks)
(1 week) Number, Real numbers, complex numbers
(1 week) Functions and properties
(1 week) Trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions
(1 week) Exponential and logarithmic functions, hyperbolic functions, and inverse
(1 week) Representation of functions (drawing)
