We worked hard. We succeded. We have been authorized as a PYP (Primary Years Programme) and
MYP (Middle Years Programme) International School. We congratulate our teachers, students and
administrators on their success.
As AR-EL Schools, we also worked with a heart full of love and faith and signed under lots of success
stories in 18 years.
Carlyle says, “The question to be asked in all perspectives of life is not “What have we gained?” but
“What have we done?”. We would like to share with you, what we did in the second term of the academic
year, in our 19th publication.

Ann Le Diraison, ziyaretin sonunda Yönetim Kurulu ve PYP
Koordinatörü ile görüflmüfl ve okulumuzun PYP uygulamalar›ndaki
baflar›s›ndan söz etmifltir.
Okulumuz 23 May›s 2008-Cuma günü Ann Le Diraison taraf›ndan
ziyaret edilmifltir. Bir günlük ziyarette, misafirimiz; ö¤rencilerimiz,
ö¤retmenlerimiz ve idarecilerimizle güzel vakit geçirmifltir.
Bizleri, verdi¤i güzel geribildirimlerle program› uygularken do¤ru
yolda ilerlememiz için yönlendirmifl ve motive etmifltir.
Ann Le Diraison had an exit meeting with the Board members
and the PYP Coordinator of the school to inform them about
the success of our school in implementing the PYP programme.
Our school was visited by Ann Le Diraison on 23rd May, 2008.
In this one day visit, or guest spent nice time with our students,
teachers and administrators. She guided us to go forward in the
right direction in implementing the programme and motivated
us with her positive feedback.

SOCIAL COMMUNITY PROJECT
Ö¤rencilerimiz, ünitelerinin sonunda yapt›klar› etkinlikler ve
eyleme dönüfltürdükleri toplum yarar›na hizmetlerle her y›l
farkl› bir ortak proje gerçeklefltirmektedirler.Bu y›l ortak
projeye destek olmak amac›yla;
Every year, our students make a common project with the
cooperation of all level grades at the end of their PYP units with
the activities and the action that is for the sake of the community
around them.

Exhibition Unit sharing
PYP sergisi, PYP’nin temel ö¤elerini sentezleyerek ve onlar›
bütün okul toplulu¤u ile paylaflarak bir PYP okulunun ve
ö¤rencisinin hayat›ndaki önemli olaylar›ndan birini oluflturur.
En üst derecedeki bir tecrübe olarak ö¤rencilere PYP Ö⁄RENEN
PROF‹L‹ kazan›mlar›n› sergileme f›rsat› verir.
‹kinci, üçüncü ve beflinci s›n›flar olarak yap›lan etkinliklerden
toplam 2600 YTL elde edilmifltir. Elde edilen bu tutar Kanserli
Çocuklara Umut Vakf›’n›n organizasyonlu¤unda kanserli
çocuklar›n tedavilerinin devam› için aile evleri yap›m›na
ba¤›fllanm›flt›r.
2600 YTL was earned from the 2nd graders, 3rd Graders and
the 5th graders sale events. This sum of money was donated
to “The Foundation of Hope for Children Diagnosed with Cancer
“in order to build homes for them to continue their medical
treatment.
PORTFOLYO SUNUM GÜNLER‹
PYP Exhibition is one of the most important events for the PYP
schools and their students as it gives an immense opportunity
for them to reflect their gainings from the Learner profile by
synthezing the essential elements of PYP and sharing them with
the school community on that day.

Y›l›’nda ikinci kez sergi ünitesi haz›rlad›lar. Sergi ünitesi olarak
da “Su Kirlili¤i” konusunu belirlediler.
Her ö¤rencinin y›l boyunca yapt›¤› çal›flmalar› velileri ile
paylaflt›klar› Portfolyo Sunum Günleri bu y›l 31 May›s- 01
Haziran 2008 tarihlerinde gerçeklefltirildi.
In 2007-2008 Academic Year, our 5th Grade students have
prepared an exhibition unit for the second time. All 5th grade
students have chosen “Water Pollution”as the title of their
exhibition unit.

The class teachers in our school attended the IBO regional
workshop “The Role of Maths in the PYP” in ENKA SCHOOLS
on 28th February-1st March, 2008. The workshop leaders were
Angela Hoelzl and Muge Selcuk. Our teachers joined many
individual and groupwork activities. The teachers gave a three
day lasting feedback and shared their activities with the rest of
the teaching staff after the workshop .

powerpoint sunumuyla velilerine, arkadafllar›na ve ö¤retmenlerine
anlatt›lar.
On 10th June 2007, the 5th grade students explained and shared
the preparations, they had done about water pollution since
November, to their parents, the other graders and their teachers
with a powerpoint presentation.

“MATEMAT‹⁄‹N PYP’DEK‹ ROLÜ” konulu IBO Bölge
Çal›fltay›’na kat›lm›fllard›r. Angela Hoelzl ve Müge Selçuk’un
liderli¤inde yap›lan çal›fltayda çeflitli aktivitelere kat›lan
ö¤retmenlerimiz, çal›fltay tamamland›ktan sonra okulumuzdaki
ö¤retmenlere 3 gün süren bir çal›fltay paylafl›m› gerçeklefltirdiler.

DUBAI INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY’S
CULTURE SHARING VISIT
AR-EL E¤itim Kurumlar›’nda 2007-2008 E¤itim-Ö¤retim
y›l›nda, Yabanc› Diller Bölümü taraf›ndan aç›lan Uluslararas›
Çocuk Kulübü, farkl› kültür temsilcileri ile ba¤lant› kurup kültür
paylafl›m›nda bulunmay› amaç edinmifltir. Kulüp ö¤rencileri
dünyan›n çeflitli bölgelerinde bulunan okullar ile temas kurmufl,
M›s›r’daki Greenland Uluslararas› Okul ve Dubai’deki Dubai
Uluslararas› Akademi ile sürekli bir diyalog içine girmifltir.
Her okul; okulu, flehri ve ülkeyi tan›tan posterler haz›rlay›p
de¤iflimde bulunmufltur. Ö¤renciler e-mail, MSN arac›l›¤› ile
arkadafll›k kurmufl; kendilerini, okulu, önemli gün ve olaylar›
birbirine tan›tma sorumlulu¤unu üstlenmifltir.

The International Kids Club which was first introduced this
academic year by the Foreign Languages Department in AR-EL
Schools, aims to connect various cultural representatives and
share culture. Club students have connected MYP Schools
worldwide and have started close relationships with Greenland
International School in Egypt and Dubai International Academy
in Dubai. The schools have exchanged posters introducing the
schools, the cities and the countries. The students are responsible
for sharing information about themselves, the school, special
days and events in their cultures.
Another outcome of this contact was Dubai International Academy
students’ visit to AR-EL Schools on April 22-26. Our guests
joined our Children’s Day celebrations, stayed with our students’
families, took ‹stanbul tours, enjoyed one school day with us
and returned back to Dubai.
Thanks to this cultural visit, all the students had an unforgettable
experience, found opportunity to introduce and share their culture
and started lifelong friendships. International Kids Club will carry
on worldwide work and contact with world citizens.
Bu temas›n bir baflka ürünü de 22-26 Nisan 2008 tarihleri
aras›nda gerçekleflen Dubai Uluslararas› Akademi ö¤rencilerinin
AR-EL E¤itim Kurumlar›’n› ziyareti oldu. Konuklar›m›z 23 Nisan
kutlamalar›m›za kat›ld›, AR-EL ö¤rencilerimizin aileleri taraf›ndan
a¤›rland›; Türk aile yap›s›n›, Türk kültürünün özelliklerini
yaflad›.Misafir ö¤rencilerimiz Bo¤az ve ‹stanbul turu gerçeklefltirdi,
tarihi ve kültürel bilgi edindi ve bizimle bir okul günü yaflay›p
Dubai’ye geri döndüler.
Bu kültür ziyareti kapsam›nda tüm ö¤renciler yaflam boyu
unutamayacaklar› bir tecrübe edindiler, kültürlerini tan›tma
ve paylaflma f›rsat› buldular, derin ve ömür boyu sürecek

MINI PERSONAL PROJECT EXHIBITION
PERSONAL PROJECT EXHIBITION
Her y›l oldu¤u gibi bu y›l da 6, 7 ve 8. s›n›f ö¤rencilerimiz
Aral›k ay›ndan bafllayarak Mini Kiflisel Projeleri üzerinde
çal›flt›lar. 10 May›s 2008’ de proje süreçlerini, ürünlerini ve
raporlar›n› hem kendi velilerine sundular hem de di¤er veliler
ve tüm okul toplulu¤uyla paylaflma f›rsat› buldular.
MYP Program›’n›n ilk mezunlar› olan 10. s›n›flar›m›z, May›s
2007’den beri üzerinde çal›flt›klar› Kiflisel Projelerini
tamamlad›lar ve 7 Haziran 2008’de gerçekleflen sergide tüm
okul toplulu¤u ile paylaflt›lar. ‹lk mezunlar›m›zla gurur duyuyoruz.
Our 10th grade students, who are the first graduates of the MYP
Programme, completed their Personal Projects, which they have
been working on since May 2007, and shared them with the
school community in the exhibition on June 7th, 2008. We are
proud of our first MYP graduates.

AR-EL E¤itim Kurumlar› 9 C,D,E s›n›f› ö¤rencileri, Alanlararas›
ve Toplum ve Hizmet Alan› çerçevesinde “Yafll›larla ‹letiflim”
projesi gerçeklefltirdiler. Bu çal›flmalar›n bir ürünü olarak,
Bahçelievler Huzurevi’ne, 23 May›s’ta bir ziyaret gerçeklefltirdiler
ve haz›rlad›klar› çal›flmalar› sundular. 9C ve E s›n›f› ö¤rencileri
“Çanakkale” ve “Dünden Bugüne” isimli barkovizyon gösterisi,
9D s›n›f› ö¤rencileri de ‹stanbul’un semtlerini anlatan “Köfle
Bucak ‹stanbul” adl› barkovizyon gösterisini fliirler eflli¤inde
sundular. Etkinliklerin sonunda ö¤rencilerimiz, huzurevi
sakinlerine ikramlarda bulundular, hat›ra olarak da birer saks›
çiçe¤i arma¤an ettiler. Duygu dolu anlar›n yafland›¤› bu ziyaret,
hem yafll›lar›m›z› hem de ö¤rencilerimizi çok mutlu etti.
The interdisciplinary project of the 9th graders was on the topic
of “Getting Old”. To connect the things they learn in the class
to real life situations, students are given a project about senior
citizens including a visit to a nursing home. 9th grade students
prepared an hour show by using the activities and researches
they had made in their lessons (PE, Language A, Language B,
Science) and presented their show in the nursing home as well
as spending time with the senior citizens. There, they had a
chance to communicate with senior citizens. Besides, they
brought some refreshments and flowers and made them happy.
Through this project, we aimed at reinforcing the connections
between the generations.

decided on the projects they
would carry on. They decided
to help a school and support
it. We chose “Do¤u Sanayi
Primary School” which is a state
school in need. Firstly, three
representatives from each class
were chosen to visit this school.
Students had an interview with the principal, the teachers, the staff
and the students to understand the needs of the school. Besides,
they took photos to show the conditions in the school to their friends.
After coming back to school, the students had a meeting with the
CS Leader and MYP Coordinator and decided on activities they will
do to support the state school. They agreed on:
- collecting books for the school library
- collecting second hand and new clothes for the students in need
- bake sale in the school’s traditional May Festival
- ticket sale for the soccer match between students and teachers
peer teaching sessions to support language development
for the students
10. s›n›f ö¤rencilerimiz, kendilerinin karar vermifl oldu¤u
“Do¤u Sanayi Kardefl Okul” projesi kapsam›nda, temsilci bir
grup ile okulu ziyaret ettiler. Müdür, ö¤retmenler, çal›flanlar,
veliler ve ö¤rencilerle görüflüp ihtiyaç tespitinde bulundular.
Daha sonra Alan Lideri ve MYP Koordinatörü ile yap›lan
toplant›da, kitap ve k›yafet toplama kampanyas› bafllatmaya,
kermeste yiyecek sat›fl›na, futbol turnuvas› düzenlemeye ve
‹ngilizce ders vermeye karar verdiler.

Multiple Quotient Intelligence Inventory and Types Of Learning
Test's were applied to the students and the results were
shared with the teachers.The aim of this study was to help
to the teachers in arranging the class environment and to
provide guidance to the students .

On April 3, 2008, a trip to the ‹stanbul Technique University,
Maslak Campus was organized for providing information

yar›flmas› oldukça çekiflmeli geçmifl ve birçok ö¤rencimiz bu
yar›flmada ödül almaya hak kazanm›flt›r. Kitap dostu tüm
ö¤rencilerimizi kutluyoruz.
Our competition on reading books among the students from
Primary School has ended with great enthusiasm. The winners
from each class were awarded in this competition which gives
them an opportunity to develop their reading skills and to increase
their English level. We congratulate our students.
Our students from Kindergarten ( 4-5-6 year olds ) and Ist Graders
performed plays in English successfully and was appreciated
in these performances at the ' end of the year' shows. On the
traditional Fun Day which took place on the 30th May 2008, 5th
Graders presented the plays named, ' The Ghost', 'Time Machine',
'Theseus and the Minotaur'; Lise Prep class presented the play
named 'Stone Soup' in English ; 6th and 7th Graders from German
Drama Club presented the play named 'Das Picknick'in German.

In order to make our students get familiar with the new publications
and develop their habit of reading, book fairs were organized by
various publications and our students were provided with books
to be read during their summer holiday.

Ö¤rencilerin duygu ve düflüncelerini fliirle anlatabilme
yetene¤ini gelifltirmek, onlara estetik duygu kazand›rmak ve
“Dünya fiiir Günü”nü kutlamak amac›yla her y›l düzenledi¤imiz
Liseleraras› fiiir Yazma Yar›flmam›z›n ödül töreni 21 Mart
Cuma günü yap›ld›.
On March 21, we had the award ceremony of our annual Writing
Poetry Competition among high schools which is organised to
improve students' expressions of their emotions and thoughts
through poems and to make them acquire asthetic sense as well
as to celebrate the “World Poetry Day”.
The Prep A/B students celebrated ”The World Women's Day”
with an activity. In this activity which was carried out in our mini
theatre, our students refered to the women murdered because
of honour killings with a poem performance they had prepared.
Ecem fiener from 9/B sang a song and the activity ended with
a play “Töre” written by Turgut Özakman.

adl› oyunla flehitlerimizin tarihe geçmifl, destanlaflm›fl
kahramanl›klar›n› gözler önüne serdiler.
Zihni Göktay and Savafl Barutçu joined as guests, the drama
club students from middle and high school performed a play
“Gülme Bafl›na Gelir Komfluna” in front of the master actors and
had a chance to show their talents.
Söz Koromuz, vatan›n bölünmezli¤i u¤runa canlar›n› vererek
gökteki hilal ile y›ld›z› bayrak, topra¤› da vatan yapan,
Çanakkale'de,Yemen'de, Dumlup›nar'da, ‹nönü'de, Cudi'de,
Gabar ve Namaz Da¤lar›'nda aslanlar gibi savafl›p flehit olan
binlerce askerimizin cesaretini ve yaflam öykülerini “fiehitler
Oratoryosu”yla dile getirdi. Birkaç flehit ailesi ile ilçemiz tüm
resmi ve özel okullar›nda görevli Tarih, Co¤rafya, Sosyal
Bilgiler ö¤retmenlerini ve okul müdürlerini de bir araya getiren
tören, AR-EL E¤itim Kurumlar›'nda yenen ö¤le yeme¤i ile son
buldu.
The Commemoration of War Casualties Ceremony took place
in AR-EL Sports Complex on April 14th with the cooperation of
AR-EL Schools and Bahçelievler School District Culture and Art
Committee. The ceremony started with the presentation about
the Sar›kam›fl War Casualties by Professor Bingür Sönmez and
then the High School Principal Mehmet Akb›y›k gave a sensitive
speech addressing to Turkish youth and casualties. Our Primary
School Chorus sang epic folk songs and fascinated everybody.
Our drama club students performed a play called “Honour of the
Flag” which was about the heroism of the fallen soldiers in the
past.
The actors Zihni Göktay and Savafl Barutçu encouraged our
students to act during their conversation after the performance.

CASUALTIES
The chorus referred to the lives of the thousands of soldiers who
sacrified their lives for the crescent in the sky, made the land
country, fought bravely in Çanakkale, Yemen, Dumlup›nar, ‹nönü,
and on the Cudi, Gabar and Namaz mountains with the “Oratorio”.
Some fallen soldiers' families, history, geography, humanities
teachers and administrators from all state and private schools
in our district came to the program and the program ended with
a lunch at AR-EL Schools.

the competition of reading the national
anthem by heart which was held in Türkiye Gazetesi Ticaret

9th grade students visited the nursing house in Bahçelievler as
a community service part of “ communication with senior citizens”
interdisciplinary project on May 22nd, 2008. They presented a
ppt presentation about beauty of ‹stanbul with ‹stanbul poems
and nursing home residents had a good time.

As Turkish- Literature department, we participated to this year's
Semep Project, whose topic was “variety”, with a project called
“ Water, Nature, Art”. In our project we searched about the
relationship between water and art. We emphasized that art is
inspired from nature, that it is necessary to protect natural
beauties, and that art will disappear if these beauties disappear.
Our project was awarded with “The most extensive art
presentation” prize. We celebrate our students and wish the
continuity of their successes.

The 9th grade students assessed the 10th grade stories that was
made up by whole class according to the criteria of style,
punctuation and rules of writing story. At the end of this
assessment, the story “ Gönlümden Kayan Y›ld›z” of 10/D won

‹stanbul'un tarihi ve do¤al güzelliklerini de görme imkân›
buldular.
In order to know about the artists of Servet-i Fünun, a trip to
Afliyan Servet-i Fünun museum was organized for 11th graders
on April 24, 2008. Our students examined the works of art
belonging to Servet-i Fünun artists and the places they lived.
After the museum trip, they had a chance to see the historical
and natural beauties of Istanbul.

We had a book fair in our school between June 2 and June 6,
2008. The middle and high school students bought English and

For their unit “LOVE”, the 6th grade students organized a Pure
Turkish Campaign about language love in our school. In this
activity, they showed their sensitivity towards correct use of
mother tongue by finding different slogans

“Do¤a ve Evren” ünitesinde, 7. s›n›f ö¤rencilerimiz sloganlar,
fliirler ve çizgilerle çevreye ve do¤aya olan duyarl›l›klar›n›
dile getirdiler ve çal›flmalar›n› panoda sergilediler.
For the unit of “ Nature and Universe”, 7th grade students expressed
their sensitivity towards nature and environment with slogans,
poems ans drawings and exhibited them on the school bulletin
boards.
We had our middle school graduation ceremony on June 9,
2008. Our students shared their excitement of graduation with
their parents and teachers. After the sppech of Ayhan Do¤anl›,
the principle of Primary School, Hazal fienses as a representative
for last year's graduates made a speech. After that, this years'
valedictorian Emirhan Karagül shared his feelings with us. The
ceremony ended with the distribution of diplomas and the songs
sung by the graduates.

etkinliklerle kutlad›k. Ö¤rencilerimiz, ‹stiklal Marfl›'n›n yaz›l›fl
ve kabulünü anlatan bir belgesel izlediler ve pano haz›rlad›lar.
12 Haziran Perflembe günü lise 3. s›n›f ö¤rencilerimizi gelece¤e
u¤urlarken gururu, mutlulu¤u ve hüznü bir arada yaflad›k.
Onlar yepyeni bafllang›c›n heyecan›n› yaflarken bizler de
ça¤dafl bilgilerle donanm›fl, ilkeli, sorumluluk sahibi gençler
yetifltirmenin hakl› gururunu paylaflt›k. Eski mezunlar›m›z ve
okul birincilerimizin duygulu konuflmalar›yla devam eden
törenimiz ö¤rencilerin coflkulu flark›lar› eflli¤inde sona erdi.
On March 12th, we celebrated the 87th anniversary of the acceptance
of Turkish National Anthem with various activities. Our students
watched a documentary on the story of the national anthem's birth
and acceptance and they prepared a board about it.
We had the feelings of
happiness, sorrow and pride
together while seeing our
graduates off to the future on
June 12th . While they were
feeling the excitement of
starting a new life, we took
pride in raising youth who are
principled, responsible and
equipped with comtemporary knowledge. The ceremony which
continued with the former graduates’ and the school
valedictorians’s emotinal speeches and ended with our students’
joyful songs.

A competition for Science High Schools in ‹stanbul was held on
“A car running on hydrogen battery”. An›l Yüksel, Veysel Özdemir,
K›vanç Ezer, Tu¤çe Tokel , Ayfle Özge Güler from 11/B and Kaan
Uluda¤ from 11/E joined the competition in the guidance of our
science teacher Alt›nay Sezer.

The purpose of the competition
was to introduce students with
hydrogen energy as one of the clean energy resources and to
help students gain project skills on hydrogen and fuel battery.

The event was held on Saturday May 3rd between 10.00-16.00
in Mümtaz Turhan Social Studies High School in Yenibosna. It
had two parts, speed and design.

proje gelifltirebilmesi amac› ile ilkö¤retim ikinci kademede
OKS Kulübü, Lisede Fizik, Kimya ve Biyoloji Araflt›rma Kulübü

For the sake of following the scientific and the technological
developments and developing projects, OKS club in the primary
school and Physics, Chemistry and Biology Research Clubs in
High School were introduced to the students. Lots of projects
were designed to support communication, cooperation and
group work skills, to make real life connections and improve
personal abilities to the highest level.

The toy helicopter motor in the vehicle designed for speed part
was a point of interest for the other competitors and the jury.
Tasar›m yar›fl›na yönelik ise Hidrojen pili ile çal›flan Formula
1 yar›fl arabas› tasarlanm›flt›r. Ö¤rencilerimiz tasarlad›klar›
yar›fl arabas› ile 19 metrelik yar›fl parkurunu 16 saniyede
giderek dokuzuncu olmufllard›r.
The students designed Formula 1 speed cars for the design part of
the competition. They came 9th in 16 seconds on 19 meters racecourse.

The materials dirtying earth and their vanishing periods were
determined.
• Orman yang›nlar›, sebepleri ve zararlar› araflt›r›ld›. Bir tip
yang›n söndürücü deneysel olarak tasarland›.
Forest fires, causes and harms were searched. An experiment
was done about a fire extinguisher.
In order to support science human development, high school
science education, to develop research skills and increase interest
towards experimental work, AR-EL Schools Science High School
organized “‹stanbul High Schools Active Experiment Competition”
In this first time competition we had 126 participants from 26
schools. We congratulate all the administrators, teachers and
students who attended the activity.
All the school administrations received a platelet; teachers and
students were awarded with baby pines and certificates, and
the winning students were given crystal Atatürk souvenirs.
• Alternatif enerji kaynaklar› araflt›r›ld›. Rüzgârdan, sudan,
güneflten yararlan›larak elektrik enerjisi elde etti¤imiz
maketler oluflturuldu.
Alternative energy resources were searched. 3D models were
designed about getting electric energy from the wind, water
and the sun.
• At›k kâ¤›tlardan deneysel yöntemlerle mukavva üretildi.

Hard paper was produced using waste paper.
• Eko-okul ö¤rencilerinin önerileri ile dersliklere, kütüphanelere,
bürolara kâ¤›t at›k toplama kutular› yerlefltirildi. Kâ¤›t
at›klar›n de¤erlendirilmesinde ‹STOÇ ile çal›fl›lmaktad›r.
Eco-school students suggested recycled paper collecting
boxes to be put around the school. We worked with ISTOÇ
in this project.
• Okulumuz at›k pil çöpü temizlendi. Pillerin çevreye verdi¤i
zararlar deneysel olarak belirlendi.
The school's waste battery bin was cleaned and experiments
were done on the harm of the batteries on the environment.
• Okulumuzun bahçesine çiçek tohumlar› ektik.
We planted flowers in the school's garden.
• Tüm okulda ö¤rencilerin çevre projelerinden haberdar olmas›
için panolar haz›rland›. ‹lgiyi çekmek, fark›ndal›¤› artt›rmak
için at›k/enerjiye yönelik özlü sözler PVC ile kaplan›p okulun
belirli yerlerine as›ld›.
• Çevre temal› bir yar›flma haz›rland›. Bu sene Irmak Okullar›'nda
gerçekleflen EKO- Okullar etkinli¤inde yar›flmaya kat›lan
ö¤rencilere a¤aç fidan› arma¤an edildi.
We prepared displays on the environment around the school;
slogans on saving energy and waste were also posted around
the school.
A competition was held on the theme “environment”. The
students who attended the competition in Irmak Schools were
awarded with tree plants.

AR-EL E¤itim Kurumlar›, 1999 y›l›ndan beri bir SEMEP
okuludur. En Nitelikli, En Kapsaml› Çal›flma Yapan Okul, Avrupa
Yakas› Birincili¤i ödüllerini (2'fler kez ) alm›flt›r. Geçmiflte
Avrupa Yakas› Koordinatör Okul görevi de yapm›fl olan
kurumumuz yine 2007-2008 Avrupa yakas› SEMEP
Koordinatör Okulu olmufltur.
AR-EL Schools has been a SEMEP school since 1999. We won
“the most inclusive work” and “the winner of the European side
of Istanbul” prices twice. In the past and for 2007-8 school year
our school was chosen SEMEP coordinator school of the
European side of Istanbul.

UNESCO ve Milli E¤itim Bakanl›¤›'nca desteklenen Uluslararas›
Çevre Projesi SEMEP (Güneydo¤u Akdeniz Su ve Çevre
Projesi) 'in bu y›lki proje konusu “Çeflitlilik” idi.
ISTANBUL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY SCIENCE CENTER TRIP
Optik yan›lsama, mekanik, enerji, matematik, uzay, uçak,
titreflim, dalga, ses ve fizik ile ilgili birçok teoriyi uygulama
yoluyla ö¤reten birimlerden oluflan B‹L‹M MERKEZ‹'ne yap›lan
geziye 6. ve 7. s›n›f ö¤rencilerimiz kat›ld›.
Ö¤rencilerimiz, bilimsel kavramlar› uygulamal› olarak görme
ve ö¤renme flans›na sahip oldular. Merak ve hayal ettikleri
konularla ilgili çözümleri inceleme olana¤› buldular. Merkezde
görevli e¤itmenler, ö¤rencilere hem e¤itim birimlerinin nas›l
çal›flt›klar› konusunda yard›mc› oldular hem de ö¤rencilerin
sorular›na cevap verdiler.
The Southeast Mediterranean Water and Environment Project,
also supported by UNESCO and The Ministry of Education,
chose the topic “Diversity” for this year.
30 May›s 2008'de Sosyal Dersler Bölümü ile gerçeklefltirdi¤imiz
etkinli¤e 23 okuldan 130 ö¤renci çevre temal› projeleri ile
kat›lm›fllard›r.
The event was organized with the cooperation of Social Studies
Department on May 30 th , 2008 and 130 students from
23 schools participated with their projects.
Bu Sene Yapt›¤›m›z Çal›flmalardan Örnekler
Ö¤rencilerimiz, tüm birimleri gezerken e¤lenerek ö¤renmenin
ve ö¤renmek için sorgulaman›n önemini kavrad›lar. Özellikle
›fl›k ünitesi ile ba¤lant›l› birçok konuya ait deneyleri inceleme
f›rsat› buldular.
Grade 6 and 7 students visited the Science Center which had
units about optical illusion, mechanics, energy, maths, space,
plane, vibration, wave, sound and physics providing opportunity
for active learning.
Our students had a chance to apply scientific knowledge, examine
solutions about the topics they wonder. The tutors in the center
explained the units to the students and answered their questions.
The students realized the importance of the role of inquiry in
learning. They found the opportunity to observe experiments
directly related to their unit of work “light”.

did a research on the multiplicity of numbers and participated in
the SEMEP project.

6th and 7th grade students
studied the unit
'Paralleogram' that
included studying triangle,
parallelogram, square,
rectangle and trapezoid
and they learnt to calculate
the parallelogram'a area.
At the end of the unit a
game named 'tangram'
was played with them and they were asked to form a figure of
what they'd like and they calculated the area of these figures.
After playing with various tangram models the integrity of unity
was achieved and learning was strengthened. The work of related
studies were displayed on the notice board at the entrance of
the school.

Çeflitli tangram modelleriyle oynanan bu oyun sonras›
gördükleri konular›n bütünsel kullan›labilirli¤i sa¤lanm›fl,

We made an environmental bulletin board with student volunteers
and informed our students about the environmental activities in

We organized a trip to Çanakkale-Assos with our high school
students on 2nd-4th May 2008. Visiting the historical places in
the historic Gallipoli Peninsula, where significant battles took
place, we commemorated the martyrs and our great leader
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. We also had a chance to see closely
the important places in terms of tourism and historical.

iklim elemanlar› hakk›nda bilgi sahibi olarak hava tahminlerinin
nas›l yap›ld›¤›n› daha iyi anlad›lar.
We hosted this year's SEMEP Projects. Our students Bleda Can
Sad›ko¤ullar› from 9-D, Sevda Kasap and Eylül fienses from 9E were rewarded with the “Best Map and Book” award for the
project they prepared in their Geography lessons. We thank our
students for their hard work and success.

Our 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th grade students shared with their parents
and friends the projects they prepared throughout the academic year.
In order for our students to internalize what they have learned in
Geography classes and to create an understanding of how climatic
changes affect humans and the environment, we organized a trip
to Florya Meteorology Station with 9 C-D-E classes on 15th
January 2008 and with 9 A-B classes on 7th April 2008.

Teknoloji dersleridir.
Teknoloji dersi; ö¤renen merkezli, sorgulamaya dayanan ve
projelerden oluflan bir ders olarak ö¤rencilerimize tasar›m
çemberi ile problem çözmeyi veya bir ürün yaratmay›
ö¤retmeyi hedeflemektedir. Problem çözmek veya ürün
yaratmak için kulland›¤›m›z Tasar›m Çemberi befl basamak
içermektedir. Bunlar s›ras›yla, Araflt›rma, Tasar›m, Plan,
Yaratma ve De¤erlendirme'dir. Tasar›m Çemberi ayr›ca di¤er
derslerin proje çal›flmalar›nda, Mini Kiflisel Proje ve Kiflisel
Proje'nin haz›rlanmas›nda da kullan›lmaktad›r.
At AR-EL Schools, we have two subjects in Technology Subject
group. These are Computer Technology and Design Technology
lessons.

Having finished their Organic Agriculture project, our seventh
grade students are now working on Campaign on Raising
Awareness of Health“.
8. S›n›f ö¤rencilerimiz “Animasyon” projesini tamamlad›lar.
Technology Education at AR-EL schools is a learner centered,
inquiry and project based instructional program. Its purpose is
to teach how to solve a problem or how to create a product by
using the Design Cycle. The design cycle that we use to solve
a problem or to create a product has five steps. These steps
are Investigate, Design, Plan, Create and Evaluate. The Design
Cycle is also a central tool for other subjects' projects, Mini
Personal Project and Personal Project.
The eighth grade students finished their Animation projects.

8th SPORTS FEST
Her y›l geleneksel olarak düzenledi¤imiz, ‹stanbul ili tüm resmi
ve özel okullar›n› kapsayan spor flenli¤imizin bu y›l 8.sini
gerçeklefltirdik. Bu flenli¤i düzenlemekteki amac›m›z spor
yoluyla okullar aras› dayan›flmay› güçlendirmek, gençlerimizin
geliflimlerine katk›da bulunmakt›r.
In the Independence Cup tournament on April 17-18, 2008,
about 350 young sports people from 30 primary schools
competed in the branches of swimming and volleyball and had
an experience of making new friends through the unifying power
of sports.

YOUTH CUP
We organised the 8th annual traditional sports fest with the
participation of all state and private schools in ‹stanbul. We
aimed at enpowering the cooperation among schools through
sports and at making contibutions to the development of our
students.
EGEMENL‹K KUPASI
12- 13 May›s 2008 tarihinde düzenledi¤imiz Gençlik Kupas›
Turnuvas›'nda yaklafl›k 20 Lise 250 genç sporcuyla yüzme
ve basketbol branfllar›nda yar›flt›lar. Kazanman›n mutlulu¤unu
yaflad›lar.
In the Youth Cup tournament on May 12th-13th, 2008, about
250 young sports people from 20 high schools competed in the
branches of swimming and basketball. They experienced the
happiness of winning.

did their best to show their talents and had fun while competing.

Our students fullfilled their national responsibilities by joining
the ceremonies held in our school and in our district with
great enthusiasim and willingness.
This year, girls from 9th grades represented our school successfully
in the Commemorat›on of Ataturk, Youth And Sports Fest
organised by the Bahçelievler school districts.

Our aim was to have our kids understand different point of views,
to know them and to compare them with this drawing activity. Even
though it was thier first experience they were very successful.

Our travel to the land of books started. We are sailing to new
adventures and new excitements. We are opening our eyes in
Gulliver’s boat, or next to Cindrella.

cans›zlar hakk›nda konufltuk, ard›ndan kartlar› grupland›rarak
canl› ve cans›zlar› ö¤rendik.
We talked about living and non-living things in the “Living-Nonliving”
Unit and then learned about them by grouping the cards.
Hayallerimizin ucu buca¤› yok. Bunlar› somutlaflt›r›rken de
her malzemeyi de¤erlendiriyoruz. Hayallerimizi sadece
kâ¤›tlara, hamurlara yans›tm›yoruz, kumlarla da farkl› flekilde
anlatabiliyoruz.
There is no limit for our dreams. While making them real, we are
using all materials. We are not only reflecting our dreams in the
dough, but also we are expressing ourselves.

daha sonra da ailelerimizin deste¤i ile onlar› üç boyutlu hale
getirip ‹catlar – Mucitler Günü’nde sunduk.
Although we are young, we have
taken our first steps in the art
world. We presented our works to our friends and relatives.
We, as the inventors of today, decided on what we struggled
from and then we produced solutions for them. We designed
the invention which we thought would make our life easier, then
we made 3D with the help of our parents and we presented
them to our parents on “Inventions and Inventors Day.”

It is nice to have breakfast in the school yard on a nice Spring Day.
Havalar›n güzelleflmesi en çok bizim iflimize yarad›. Önce
ailelerimizden oyunlar ö¤rendik, bunlar› arkadafllar›m›za
anlatt›k, daha sonra da bu oyunlar› temiz havada oynama
flans›n› yakalad›k.
Weather improvement was to our benefit. First we learned games
from our families, we told these to our friends and then we had
the chance to play these games outside.

We saw the inventions and practices
people did in order to fly in our trip
to “Yeflilköy Aviation Museum”. We
walked near the planes we always see in the sky and we tried to
understand how they fly.

works in our computer lesson.

We expressed ourselves by using body language. We acted as
if we were a vehicle, and I became a plane.

learning. In the unit “Children
games” we set up a consulting
room, some of us became a
doctor, a nurse and a patient.

“Befliktafl Deniz Müzesi” gezimiz sonras›nda Befliktafl’ta denizi
seyretmek oldukça keyifliydi.
It was nice to watch the sea after our trip to “Naval Museum” in
Befliktafl.
Ana s›n›flar› 5 yafl grubu olarak, “Meslekler” ünitemizin sonuç
de¤erlendirmesini haz›rlad›k. “Neler ö¤rendim” çal›flmas›
yapt›k. Tüm ö¤rendiklerimizi resimlendirdik ve sunumlar›m›z›
gerçeklefltirdik.
“Çocuk Oyunlar›” ünitemizde, evde severek oynad›¤›m›z
oyunlar› s›n›fa getirerek arkadafllar›m›zla paylaflt›k. “Memory”
oyunu ile hem e¤lendik hem de haf›zam›z› güçlendirdik.
In the unit “ Children Games” we brought the games we like
playing at home to the classroom and shared them with our
friends. We both had fun and strengthened our memory.
Spor salonumuzda, çocuk oyunlar›ndan biri olan “Ebe tura
bir iki üç” oyununu ö¤renmek ve hep beraber oynamak oldukça
keyifliydi.
It was nice to learn how to play “freeze tag” and play together
in our sports hall.
“Meslekler” ünitesini ifllerken, Kocasinan ‹tfaiye Merkezi’ne
gittik ve oradaki itfaiye erlerine çeflitli sorular sorarak
meslekleri hakk›nda bilgiler ald›k.
As five-year-old Kindergarten students, we prepared a Summative
assessment chart for our “Occupations Unit.” We pictured all
our learning outcomes and presented our projects.

We formed interest groups while sharing what we learned. While
some students prepared posters, some others sang songs and
performed dramas. During these activities, we listened to and
assessed each other in a respectful manner.

gerçeklefltiriyor.
As five-year- old Kindergarten students, we got ready for our
end-of-the-year show. In the picture, our folk dance group is
practicing Ankara Misket Dance in their rehearsals.
During the “occupations” unit we went to the “Fire Department”
and asked questions to the firefighters and got information about
their occupation.

Kütüphanedeki kitaplar› incelemeyi çok seviyoruz. Farkl›
öyküleri dinleyip okuma çemberi oluflturuyor; zaman, mekan
ve kifli analizleri yaparak okumaya haz›rlan›yoruz.
We love skimming books in the library. We listen to different
stories and form reading circles; we get ready to read the books
in order to analyze the time, setting(s) and characters.

We learn to count by matching numbers with school objects as

At the end of the year show practices we both got very tired and
we had fun. It’s not easy to go on stage but we worked very hard.

için servisleri ayarlad›, aflç› amca da gezide yememiz için
yiyeceklerimizi haz›rlad› (Servis bölümü ve yemekhaneyle
birlikte çal›flt›k.).
We grew up, so we can now do what we need to do on our
own. Under our teachers’ assistance we even got our own
permission when going on trips. The man responsible for the
school buses arranged services for us and the chef prepared
us food to eat on the trip. (We worked with the School Service
Deparment and with the lunch hall.)

“Gezelim Görelim” ünitesinde gitti¤imiz Yeflilyurt Havac›l›k
Müzesi’nde hava tafl›tlar›n›n geçmiflten günümüze de¤iflimlerini
gözlemledik.Hatta pilot bile olduk.
We observered the changes of the air transportation from the past
till today in the unit ‘Travel and See’. We even became pilots.

‹lkokula haz›rl›k çal›flmalar›m›zdan biri olan çizgi çal›flmas›
biraz zor gelse de yine de baflar›yoruz. Çünkü elyaz›s›na
haz›rl›k olan bu çizgileri kurallar›na uygun olarak çizmek
gerekiyor.
To get ready for the primary school we start drawing lines studies.
Even if this is a little difficult we achieve this to prepare for
handwritng. Drawing these lines with rulers is important.

By teaching the games we learned with our friends we had a
fun and nice time. This way our game reportory and our sharings
increased more.

sergilediler. Performanslar›yla göz doldurdular.
Our kindergarten students presented all the studies they did to
their parents, the principal and to the teachers in the end of the
year show. Their performances were much appreciated.
Folkore was exhibited by four
different groups. Our smallest
group ‘Kafkas,’ 5 year old grup
‘Ankara Misket’ and the 6 year
old group presented ‘Üsküp
and Artvin’.

ziyaret ederek gezdiler.
During the unit ’Let’s Celebrate’, on the National Independance
and Children’s Day our first grade classes visited Atatürk’s house
and museum in Avc›lar.

4. S›n›f ö¤rencileri “Hareket ve Kuvvet-Ifl›k-Ses,Vücudumuzun
Bilmecesini Çözelim” üniteleri ile ba¤lant›l› olarak fiiflli Bilim
Merkezi’ne yapt›klar› gezi ile,e¤lenerek ö¤rendiklerini uygulama
ve gözlemleme olana¤› buldular. Rehberlerin verdikleri bilgilerle
kendi bilgilerini harmanlay›p deneyler yapt›lar.
The interest groups worked together in the Research Room for
the Exhibition Unit once a week.
4th grade students had a trip to ‘fiiflli Science Center’ and they
enjoyed to have the opportunity to practice and observe the
things they learned in ‘Movement and Force- Light-Sound’ unit.
The guides in the centre gave information about these topics
and the students checked their knowledge.
