Editor’s Note
Dear Friends,
Sevgili Arkadaşlar
Başarıyla geçen bir okul yılını daha geride bırakmak üzere
olduğumuz şu günlerde belki de yılın en yorucu günlerini
yaşadığınızı ve bir yandan da yaz tatili planlarınızı
yapmaya başladığınızı tahmin ediyorum. Şimdi kısa bir
mola verip, kahvelerinizi yudumlarken Koçlife'a bir göz
atmak ister misiniz?
Neredeyse her hafta sonu bir grup arkadaşımızın eğitim
almak için okula geldiği bu yılı “mesleki ve kişisel gelişim”
yılı olarak ilan etsek hiç de haksız sayılmayız. Devam eden
sayfalarda bu eğitimlerden bazıları ile ilgili bilgilere yer
verdik. Katılan arkadaşlarımızdan aldığımız olumlu geri
bildirimler bizleri çok mutlu etti. Bundan sonra da okulun
hedeflerini dikkate alarak eğitim ihtiyaçlarını belirlemeye
ve güzel eğitimler düzenlemeye devam edeceğiz. İÖO'da
görev alan öğretmenlerimiz ve idarecilerimiz bu yılı
İngiltere'den gelecek bir uzmanın vereceği NLP eğitimi ile
kapatacaklar. Katılımcıların hayatında fark yaratacağına
inandığım bu eğitim için herkes adına Mesrure Hanım'a
şimdiden teşekkür etmek istiyorum.
Koçlife'ın bu sayısında, Okulumuzda çok önemli ve zor bir
görev üstlenmiş olan Müdür Yardımcılarımızı daha
yakından tanımak, tanıtmak istedik. Onların kendileri ile
ilgili bizlerle paylaşmak istedikleri bilgilere yer verdik.
Ayrıca 2 arkadaşımızı spot ışıkları altında sizlerle
buluşturuyoruz.
Bazı arkadaşlarımız bu yıl aramızdan ayrılıyorlar.
Ülkesine dönüp ailelerine kavuşacak olanlar, başka bir
ülkeye gidip yeni bir kültürle yepyeni tecrübelerle
tanışacak olanlar, başarılı çalışmalarını başka bir kurumda
sürdürecek olanlar, emekli olup artık hayatın tadını
çıkaracağım diyenler.... İçinizdeki heyecanı tahmin
edebiliyorum. Hepinizi sevgiyle uğurluyor tekrar
karşılaşmayı umuyoruz..
Özellikle bu yıl çok sayıda arkadaşımız “denetim”
sözcüğünü sıkça duyar oldular. Koç Holding bünyesinde
görev yapan Denetim Grubu ve fonksiyonu ile ilgili sizleri
While being on the edge of leaving another successful
academic year behind, I am sure you are having the
busiest days of the year currently and planning your
summer holiday on the other hand. Would you like to
have break and take a glance at Koçlife, while sipping
your coffee?
It would not be unfair at all if we announce this year
“professional and personal development” year in which
almost every weekend various groups of our friends had
come to school for training. You can find information
about some of these trainings in the coming pages.
Positive feedbacks we received from the participants
made us very happy. From now on, we will continue to
determine the training needs considering the goals of the
school and arrange new and fruitful trainings. Our
elementary school teachers and deans will close this
academic year with NLP training which will be given by
an expert from the UK. I would like to thank Mesrure
Hanım on behalf of everyone for this training which I
believe will make a huge difference in the lives of the
participants.
In this issue of Koç Life, we wanted to get to know and
introduce our Deans who have undertaken important
and hard job in our school. We included the information
about themselves they wanted to share with us. Besides
we present two of our friends to you under the spot lights.
Some of our friends are leaving this year. Ones who will
return to their home country and unite with their families,
ones who will go to a new country and meet with a new
culture and have new experiences, ones who will
continue their successful career in another school, and
ones who decide to retire and enjoy life to the full… I can
feel your excitement. We send you off with love and
would like to meet you again the future.
Especially this year more of our friends have heard the
word “auditing” frequently. I would like to inform you
about the Koç Holding Audit Group and its functions.
This Audit Group works in teams and reports directly to
Koç Family and Koç Holding Top Management.
kısaca bilgilendirmek istiyorum. Denetim Grubu kendi
içinde ekipler halinde çalışıyor ve direk olarak Koç Ailesi
ve Koç Holding Yönetimi'ne raporlama yapıyor. Denetim
Grubu'nun muhasebe kayıtlarının doğru yapılıp
yapılmadığını kontrol etmenin ötesinde pek çok
fonksiyonu var:
Başta kaynakların en etkin şekilde
kullanılıp kullanılmadığının sorgulanması olmak üzere,
öğrenci kayıt işlemleri, burslar, İnsan Kaynakları süreçleri
gibi okulumuzun performansına etki eden tüm faaliyetleri
ve bunların yasal düzenlemelere uygunluğunu
inceliyorlar. Dışarıdan objektif bir bakış açısıyla bakıp
iyileştirme önerilerini iletiyorlar. Başlangıç noktası da
elbette ki muhasebe kayıtları oluyor. VKV ve bağlı
kuruluşların denetiminden sorumlu olan bir grup denetçi
arkadaşımız her yıl Şubat ayında okulumuza gelerek
muhasebe bölümü ile birlikte yaklaşık 2 hafta (hafta sonları
dahil) gece geç saatlere kadar çalışıyor, bir önceki mali yılda
yapılmış olan hemen hemen bütün işlemlerin üzerinden
geçiyorlar. Bu yıl grubumuza yeni atanan denetçimiz,
yukarıda bahsettiğim okul faaliyetini fiilen gerçekleştiren
arkadaşımızla yüz yüze görüşerek bilgi almak istiyor.
Örneğin eğer öğrenmek istediği bir konu varsa, kayak
yarışları için öğrencilere eşlik eden beden eğitimi
öğretmenimizle görüşüp bu aktivite ile ilgili bilgiyi direk
kendisinden almayı tercih ediyor. Bu nedenle özellikle
akademik ve idari yöneticilerimiz bundan böyle denetim
sürecine daha sık dahil olacaklar gibi görünüyor.
2010 yılı denetim raporunda yer alan tespit ve öneriler
üzerinde çalışıyoruz. Raporda yer alan en önemli
konulardan biri okulumuzun personel taşıma maliyetinin
çok yüksek olması. Bu konuyla ilgili yeni dönemde tüm
çalışanların katkısıyla belirgin bir iyileştirme yapmamız
gerekiyor.
Sizleri parasal konularla daha fazla sıkmadan sözlerimi
noktalıyor ve hepinize bol eğlenceli, huzur dolu bir yaz
tatili diliyorum. Ağustos'ta heyecanla dönüşünüzü
bekliyor olacağız.. Yazın okula gelip bizi ziyaret eden
öğretmenlerimize dondurma ısmarlıyoruz !

There are many functions of the Audit Group beyond
controlling the bookkeeping entries: they examine all the
activities and their legal arrangements such as
questioning whether the sources are used in an efficient
way or not in the first place, student registrations,
scholarships and Human Resources Processes which
influences the performance of our school. They look
through from an objective perspective and suggest their
opinions for improvement. Their starting point is of
course the bookkeeping entries. A team of auditors who
are responsible from the Vehbi Koç Foundation and
institutions reporting to the foundation itself, comes to
our school every year in February for at least two weeks
(including the weekends) and works together with the
accounting department late nights, going through
almost all the records of previous fiscal year one by one .
This year the newly appointed auditor wanted to meet
and took information from the personnel who fulfills the
above mentioned school activities in real. For example, if
he needs information about ski activity he prefers
meeting with the PE teacher who accompanies our
students for the ski races and get information directly
from him/her. Because of this reason, it seems like
especially our administrators will partake the auditing
process more often from now on.
We are working on the detections and suggestions which
take place on the audit report of the year 2010. One of the
most important subjects enlisted in the report is the high
cost of the personnel transportation. In the new academic
year we have to make an observable improvement on
this issue with the contribution of all our personnel.
I would like to end my words before boring you with
financial topic and wish you a peaceful and an
entertaining summer holiday. We will be waiting your
return in August with excitement. Ice creams will be on
the house for the teachers who visit us during summer!

Herkese merhaba,
Bu vesileyle, bir kez daha sizlerle okulumuzla ilgili
haberleri ve gelişmeleri paylaşmaktan ne kadar mutlu
olduğumu ifade etmek isterim.
Bu geçtiğimiz sene içinde yaşantımızı etkileyen en
önemli konuların başında okulumuzun içinden geçen
yeni yol inşaatı geldi. Ben bunları yazarken (Nisan
2011) okulumuzun içindeki yol tamamlandı ancak
yeni giriş ve dış bağlantılar henüz tamamlanmadı.
Ağustos ayına, yani, önümüzdeki eğitim yılının
başlangıcına kadar tüm yol çalışmalarının
tamamlanmış olacağını umuyorum. Çok yakında
yeni trafik işaretleri konulacak ve yeni girişten Lise
otoparkına hızlı girişi sağlamak amacıyla batı
tarafındaki bir bölüm dışında kalan tüm yollarda saat
istikametinin tersine okulumuzun içinde tek yönlü
trafiğin akışını sağlayacaklardır.
Vehbi Koç Vakfı ile yaptığımız işbirliği sonucunda
artık okulumuzda Mustafa Karataş adında daimi bir
mimarımız olduğunu bildirmekten mutluluk
duyuyorum. Mustafa Bey, Mehmet Kaya adında bir
mekanik teknisyen ve Orhan Işık adında bir idari
asistandan oluşan bir ekip ile çalışıyor. Bu yeni ekibe
ofis olarak C/D Blok'ta üst kat tahsis edildi. Bu yeni
oluşum sayesinde, yapacağımız inşaatlar, önemli
yenileme ve restorasyon çalışmaları doğrudan
buradan yönetilebilecek. Önümüzdeki üç dört sene
boyunca yapmayı planladığımız pek çok iş var;
atletizm ve futbol sahalarının restorasyonu,
İlköğretim okulumuz için ilave benzer bir tesis, uzun
zamandır yapılması planlanan yüzme havuzları, yeni
bir Fen binası ve daha farklı birçok ilave tesis, öncelik
sırasına konularak yapılacak.
Bu geçtiğimiz sene boyunca, Bakanlıkla değiştirmek
istediğimiz Lise müfredat modelini onaylatmak için
mücadele ettik ve maalesef bu konu önümüzdeki
sene için yapacağımız hazırlıklar konusunda
gecikmemize sebep olacak gibi gözüküyor. Ancak
biz, Türk ve uluslar arası eğitim sistemlerinin en iyi
yönlerini bünyesinde barındıracak tutarlı ve uygun
bir müfredatı sağlamak misyonumuzu sürdürmeye
ve bununla ilgili çalışmaları yapmaya devam etmekte
kararlıyız.
Bu sene özellikle sınıf uygulamaları (örn:
farklılaştırılmış eğitim), yönetim, sınıf içi teknoloji
kullanımı, ofis becerileri gibi pek çok alanda
profesyonel gelişim programlarını yürütürken bir
yandan da çalışanlarımızın kişisel gelişimlerini
destekledik. Bu konu önceliğimiz olmaya devam
edecek.
Çok olumlu bazı gelişmeler var. Oxford ve Cambridge
Üniversiteleri'nin hazırladıkları bir yayında yer aldık
Hello Everyone,
Once again I welcome this opportunity to share news
and developments.
One of the biggest issues affecting our life and work for
a large part of this year was the construction of our
new, inner roadway. As I write (April 2011) the
roadway is completed but the new entrance and
outside connections are not. Hopefully everything will
be finished in time for our new year starting in August.
New traffic signs will soon be erected and they will
reveal a largely one-way system in an anti-clockwise
direction on entry at the new gate with the exception of
a quadrant at the western end to enable quicker access
to the Lise car park.
I am delighted that, with the co-operation of the Vehbi
Koç Foundation we now have a resident architect,
Mustafa Karataş. He is assisted by Mehmet Kaya, a
mechanical technician and Orhan Işık, their
administrative assistant. They are located upstairs in
C/D block. This will enable us to have direct input to
building developments, major renewals and
refurbishments. There will be quite a bit of work over
the next three to four years including restoration of the
track and football pitch and the building of an extra
similar facility for the Elementary school, the longawaited swimming pools, a new Science Block and
other facilities yet to be prioritised.
We have struggled all year to gain acceptance from the
Ministry of our preferred curriculum model for the
Lise and once again it threatens to hold us up in terms
of optimum preparation for next year. We remain
committed, however, to our mission of providing a
coherent curriculum which delivers the best of Turkish
and international education.
We have undertaken a great deal of professional
development this year notably in the fields of
classroom practice 'differentiation,' management,
technology in the classroom and office skills etc., as
well as that supporting personal development. This
will continue to be a priority.

Regal Yayınevi, 2011 – dünya çapında 'öğrenme
başarısını ışığı olan…. standartları belirleyici:
dünyanın en yenilikçi 200 okulu' arasına girdik. Çok
yakında Cambridge'in dünyanın en iyi üniversitesi
olmaları vesilesiyle hazırladığı bir başka yayında
okulumuz en iyi 100 okuldan biri olarak yer alacak!
Bu okullardan biri olmak için aranan kriterler
üniversitelere yerleştirme oranı (ve öğrencilerin
üniversitedeki başarısı); uluslararasıcılık ve önemli
girişimler. Bizim okulumuzla ilgili olarak onların
ilgisini çeken girişimimiz, öğretmen gelişimine
alternatif bir model getiren “Öğretmenlere Mentorluk
Uygulaması” oldu. Cambridge yayınında çıkacak
olan okulumuz ile ilgili makalede bu konu hakkında
bilgi vermem istendi.
Biz gerçekten büyük bir okuluz ve yazacak çok şey var
ancak ben şimdilik yorumlarımı burada
sonlandırıyorum.
Bu seneki tüm çalışmalarınız ve başarılarınız için
hepinize teşekkür ederim.
There are some good signs. We have already appeared
in a publication by Oxford and Cambridge
Universities ('Global Education and Skills, An
Oxbridge Guide' – Regal Press 2011) as one of 200
schools across the world who are 'beacons of learning
achievement…..setting the standards: the world's
most innovative schools.' We are soon to appear in
another publication by Cambridge University in
celebration of their success in becoming the world's
number one university – as one of the top 100 schools!
The criteria are strength of university placement (and
their university successes); 'internationalism;' and
significant initiatives. The initiative that has caught
their attention is the Teacher Mentor Scheme as it
provides an alternative model for teacher
development. I have been asked to write about it in
our article in the Cambridge publication.
We are a big school and there is much to write about
but I will contain my comments to these.

ZERRIN AKDENİZ
İstanbul doğumlu olan Zerrin Akdeniz evli ve iki kız annesi.
Kendisi de iki kız kardeşinin en büyüğü olarak her zaman
kendisinden beklenen olgunluğu göstermiş
öğretmenimizdir. Bütün öğrencileri tarafından çok sevilen
bu öğretmenimizin de düşük not aldığı zamanlar olmuş.
Zerrin Hanım, utandığı bir anısını bizimle şöyle paylaştı,
“Sınıfta beni ve Ali arkadaşımı el üstünde tutan Matematik
öğretmenimden ilk defa azar işittim. İkimizi de tahta önüne
çağıran öğretmenimiz: ”Tüm sınıf zayıf aldı ama siz nasıl bu
sınavdan 5 alırsınız!” (10 üzerinden 5 almışız) cümlesi
şimdi bende tatlı bir anı olarak kaldı. Aslında tüm yaşadığım
günlerin bende ayrı bir değeri var. Hepsi bana yaşamın
değerini tatlı, acı, tüm tatlarıyla hissettirirler.”
Born in Istanbul, Zerrin Akdeniz is married and mother of
two girls. She herself is also a teacher who has always
displayed the maturity expected of her in life as the elder of
two sisters. There have been times when this much loved
teacher has been naughty as well. She shared a time of
embarrassment for her with us, “It was when our Math
teacher who liked me and my friend Ali very much
reprimanded me in class. She called both of us to the front of
the blackboard and said, “The whole class failed but how can
you to get 5 from this exam!” (We had got a 5 over 10). Her
words are still a sweet memory in my ears. Actually each and
every day of my life has a special value for me. They all reflect
the value of life to me in all flavors, sweet and bitter.”

İlköğretim Okulunda çalışan Zerrin Hanım kurumda 13.
yılını geride bırakırken meslek yaşamında da 41 yılı
dolduruyor. “İnsanlara yardım etmek, verici olmak insan
ruhunu besleyen yücelten bir duygudur,” diyen Zerrin
Akdeniz tekrar dünyaya gelse doktor olmak istermiş. Araba
kullanmayı, dünyayı dolaşmayı ve özgürlüğünü çok seven
öğretmenimiz bir ihtimal de tır şoförü de olmak
isteyebileceğini espri ile ifade ediyor.
Şu sıralar, Candan Erçetin'in Türkçe ve Fransızca
şarkılarını dinleyen Zerrin Hanım en son Ken
GRIMWOOD'un “SİL BAŞTAN” adlı kitabını okudu.
Lotodan büyük ikramiye kendisine çıkarsa tüm akraba ve
dostlarıyla birlikte yaşayacağı 15-20 dairelik bir apartman
alıp hemen ardından dünya turuna çıkmak istiyor.
En güzel bir anıyı paylaşma konusunda gelince, aslında
mesleği dolayısı ile bunlardan oldukça çok olduğunu
belirtiyor ve birini bizlerle paylaşıyor.
“Şu kısacık meslek yaşamımda (41 yıl), yılların birinde,
birinci sınıf okutuyorum. Ele avuca sığmaz bir öğrencim
var. Adı Berk. Cin gibi akıllı, bir o kadar da yaramaz.
Mecburen öğretmen masasının yanında oturuyordu.
1.Dönemin sonuna geldik. Sınıf okuma yazma öğrendi. Son
ders tahtaya ödev yazdım. Öğrenciler ödevi defterlerine not
alıyor. Bir iki öğrenci; “Öğretmenim Berk sakız çiğniyor.”
dedi. Dersin son dakikaları. Duymazdan geldim. Ama
şikâyet cümleleri bitmiyor. “Berk yanıma gelir misin ?”
dedim. Berk gülümseyerek yanıma geldi. “Aç ağzını.”
Berk'in ağzında küçük pembe bir sakız. Sınıfta çıt yok.
Öğretmen şimdi Berk'e kızacak diye bekliyorlar.
“Berk o sakızı çöpe atar mısın?”
“Yuttum öğretmenim.”
“Öyleyse git yerine otur.” Sınıf şaşkın. Berk mutlu mesut
sınıfa gülücükler dağıtarak yerine oturdu. Çocuklardan biri;
“Öğretmenim Berk'in karnındaki sakız şişer de davul gibi
olursa...”
Sınıfta yine çıt yok ama Berk avaz avaza ağlıyor:
“Ben şiş karın istemiyorum.” En sakin sesimle;
“Bu işin bir kurtuluşu var. Ama bize söz ver sınıf
kurallarına uyacaksın.” Berk; “Tamam öğretmenim, söz
öğretmenim...”
“Hemen bir bardak su içmelisin.” dememle birlikte Berk su
içmek için sınıfı terk etti.
Masamın yanına üç öğrenci daha geldi. Bir tanesi ezile
büzüle; “Öğretmenim biz de su içebilir miyiz?” diye izin
istediler. Meğer onlar da sakız çiğniyormuş. Berk sakızı
yutunca, onlar da yutmuşlar. İşte biz dünyanın en kutsal
işini yapıyoruz. Başka hangi meslekte kızgınlık, mutsuzluk
gibi negatif duygularımız, duyacağımız bir sözcük, gülüş,
bakış, dokunuş, mutluluk, umut gibi pozitif bir duyguya
dönüştürebilir?”
Zerrin Hanım used to work in the Pendik Central Elementary
School before she came to the Koç School. Her 13th year in this
institution also marks her 41st year in this profession.
“Helping people, to be caring and giving is a sentiment that
nourishes the soul, “says Zerrin Akdeniz, who states that she
would like to be a doctor if she were reborn. Keen on driving,
traveling the world and her freedom, she jests that she might
consider becoming a truck driver.
Nowadays, she listens to the Turkish and French songs of
Candan Erçetin and the last book that she read was Ken
GRIMWOOD's, “REPLAY”. If she should hit the jackpot
she would like to buy a whole apartment building with 15-20
apartments where she could live with all her relatives and
friends and then immediately go off on a world tour.
Her best memories are numerous, she states, due to her career,
and she shares one with us.
“In this brief career of mine (41 years), one year I was teaching
first grade. I had a mischievous boy as a student. His name
was Berk. He was so smart but also unruly.
I had to keep him seated next to the teacher's desk. It was the
first semester. The kids had learned to read and write. I had
just written their homework on the blackboard and the
students were copying it in their notebooks. A few students
said, “Teacher, Berk is chewing gum.” It was the last few
minutes of the lesson. I ignored them. But the complaints
wouldn't end. I asked Berk to come up to me. He was smiling
as he came. I said, “Open your mouth.” He had a tiny, pink
piece of gum in his mouth. There was a deadly silence in the
classroom. They were all expecting the teacher to snipe at Berk
any minute.
“Berk, will you please throw that gum away?”
“I swallowed it.”
“Then go sit down.” The class was appalled. Berk was all
smiles as he sat down. One of the kids said,
“What if the gum in Berk's tummy swells and bloats…”
Dead silence once more except Berk, who is crying his eyes
out. “I don't want a swollen tummy!” I say to him in my most
composed voice,
“There is a way out of this. But you must promise to obey the
class rules from now on.” Berk, “Ok, I do, I promise.”
“You must go and drink a glass of water immediately, “and
Berk was on his feet and running out of the classroom before I
finished my sentence.
Then three more students came to my table. One of them said
in a very embarrassed manner,
“Can we also get some water to drink?” They had been
chewing gum as well! When Berk swallowed his gum, they
had swallowed theirs as well. So you see, we are carrying out
the most venerable professions of the world here. In what other
job can our negative feelings like anger or frustration be
transformed into positive feelings like joy or hope with a
single smile, a look or touch?”

Bir kişiyi tanımanın en iyi yolu onu kendisiyle ilgili
konuşturmaktır. Ve biz de bu yüzden Teksas
doğumlu İngilizce öğretmeni Stephen Shifflett'ten
bize kendisiyle ilgili birkaç tüyo vermesini istedik;
işte söyledikleri…
The best way to know a person better is to hear him
to talk about him/herself. That's why we asked the
Texas born English Teacher Stephen Shifflett to give
us a clue about himself, and here it is in his own
words.
“Ben aslen Teksas'lıyım ama maceracı bir ruhla
doğmuşum. Yeni kültürleri deneyimlemeyi, yeni şeyler
görmeyi ve deneyimlerimi kâğıda dökmeyi seviyorum. Ben
öğretmen olmayı bunu istediğim için seçtim – başka
yapacak bir şey bulamadığımdan değil. Okuldayken
birileri bana büyüdüğüm zaman öğretmen olacağımı
söyleseydi onlara delirmiş olduklarını söylerdim. Şimdi ise
kendimi öğretmenlikten ve yazarlıktan başka bir şey
yaparken hayal bile edemiyorum.”
“I'm a native Texan but I was born with the spirit of
adventure. I like to experience new cultures, see new
things, and write down my experiences. I'm a teacher by
choice—not because I had nothing better to do. As a
student in school, if someone would have told me I'd be a
teacher when I grew up I'd have told them they were
crazy. Now I couldn't imagine myself as anything other
than a teacher and writer.”

sorularda sormayı sürdürdük, ve iki kız kardeşi
olduğunu, daha önce Teksas'ta küçük bir kasabada
bir devlet okulunda öğretmen olarak çalıştığını
öğrendik. Stephen bir yazar ve ilk romanını
bitirdiğinde dünyanın en mutlu insanı olmuş. Şimdi
ise yeni bir kitap projesine başlamış. Eğer elektrik
bile olmayan ıssız bir adada mahsur kalsa yanına
alacakları “SHAKESPEARE'İN BÜTÜN ESERLERİ”,
bir tabanca ve bir kızartma tavası olurmuş. Piyango
çıksa Akdeniz'de bir yerlerde güzel bir villası olsun
istermiş.
This question did not subside our hunger to know
more and we kept asking him, and learned that he
has two sisters, that he was working in a public
school in a small town of Texas before he came to
Koç School. Stephen is a writer and was the happiest
person when he finished his first novel and in fact he
is now working on another book project. If he would
ever land on a deserted island without electricity
and no means of escape he would take “THE
COMPLETE WORKS OF SHAKESPEARE”, a gun,
and a frying pan. If he would hit the jackpot he will
have a nice villa somewhere in the Mediterranean.

The funniest moment in his life in his own words: “I
had my tooth knocked out in high school playing
basketball. In the next game, my temporary tooth got
knocked out. The referee called a time out and all 10
players and the two referees had to search the floor trying
to find my tooth. The audience kept yelling out advice
like…. “Is that a tooth by the free throw line?” Yep, pretty
funny and embarrassing.”

If he would be reborn he would choose some kind of

What is a Metalog Workshop?
20 staff members received application training on “Metalog
Training Tools”, in order to be able to act as trainers in case
of need at the school. The “Metalog Training Tools”, used in
the training of the Birikim Consulting Company titled
“Success Belongs to All of Us” which the executive staff
received in October last year, presents a systematic and
solution oriented approach for learning by experience.

20 çalışanımız, 13 Mart 2011'de okulda ihtiyaç
duyulduğunda eğitmen olarak görev yapabilmesi amacı ile
“Metalog Eğitim Araçları” ile ilgili uygulama eğitimi aldı.
Geçtiğimiz yıl Ekim ayında, Okulumuzda yönetim
seviyesinde çalışanlarımıza Birikim Danışmanlık firması
aracılığıyla aldırılan 'Başarı Hepimizin' takım çalışması
konulu eğitimde kullanılan 'Metalog Eğitim Araçları',
yaşayarak öğrenme için sistemik ve çözüm odaklı bir
yaklaşım sunuyor.
The Metalog Workshop presented us the chance to learn
how to adapt the learning by experience method and tools to
the staff and students as a trainer at our school; as well as
learning the new application strategies and experiencing
the tools.
Metalog Atölye çalışması ile; bir eğitmen olarak okulumuz
çalışanları ve öğrencilerine yaşayarak öğrenme yöntemini
ve araçlarını nasıl adapte edebileceğimizi ve uygulama
stratejilerini öğrenip, araçları deneme şansı bulduk.
METALOG eğitim araçları sınıf, seminer odası veya açık
havada kullanabileceğimiz yenilikçi öğrenme projeleridir.
Kullanım amaçları esnek olup yaşattıkları güçlü tecrübeler
ve yarattıkları etki nedeniyle katılımcılarda hayranlık
oluşturmuşlardır. Bu araçlar katılımcıların; iletişim, takım
oyunu, takım rolleri, liderlik, müzakere vb. konularda ilk
elden özgün bir tecrübe yaşamasını sağlıyor.

The METALOG training tools are innovative learning
tools which can be used in the classroom, seminar rooms or
outdoors. The flexibility of their intended use as well as the
intense experience and effect of their usage has won the
admiration of the participants. These tools provide a firsthand unique experience for the participants on topics such
as communication, team play, team roles, leadership,
negotiation, etc.

KOÇ’LU LİDERLERE
KOÇLUK EĞİTİMİ
“Koçluk” terimi son yıllarda iş dünyasında sıkça duyulan
ve günümüzün vazgeçilmez eğitim araçlarından biri haline
gelmiştir. Koçluk kavramı oldukça geniş bir yelpazede
kullanılmaktadır. Ses koçluğundan, eğitim koçluğuna,
hayat koçluğundan idareci/yönetici koçluğuna ve daha
birçok alana uzanmaktadır.
Yönetici Koçluğunun amacı, insandan insana bilgi
transferinin “tam zamanında” yapılmasını sağlamak,
çalışan motivasyon ve moralini yükseltmek, mükemmel
sonuçlar elde etmenizi sağlamaktır. VKV Koç Özel
İlköğretim Okulu ve Lisesi İnsan Kaynakları Bölümü de,
okul idarecilerine ve idareci adaylarına tüm seneye yayılan
“Yönetici Koçluğu” eğitimini sunarken bu amacı esas aldı.
Gruplar halinde gerçekleşen bu eğitimlerde, bilgi aktarımı,
koçluk konularıyla ilgili uygulama, çok sayıda aktivite,
deneyim ve tecrübeler paylaşıldı. Katılımcılar eğitimden
duydukları memnuniyeti şöyle ifade ettiler:

COACH TRAINING FOR
KOÇ SCHOOL LEADERS
The term “Coaching” has become an indispensable training
tool used frequently in the business world lately. Coaching
comprises a wide range of fields. From voice coaching to
educational coaching, life coaching to executive coaching
are among the diverse fields of coaching.
The aim of executive coaching is to provide a “timely”
transfer of information among people, to increase employee
motivation and morale, to produce positive results. The Koc
School HR department had this aim in mind while
presenting the “Executive Coaching” training to the
current and prospective executives of the school throughout
the year. These training sessions were conducted in groups
where numerous coaching know-how, practices, activities
and experiences were shared. The views of the participants
after the training reflected their contentment:
“In general, the training was enlightening for me. It was
easy to grasp due to the training content and sharing
environment which allowed for practice. Thanks for
everything.”

kurduktan sonra yamaç paraşütlerini sırtlayıp 300 m
tepeye tırmandıktan sonra yamaç paraşütü ile kendimi
boşluğa bırakmak yorucu görünse de beni dinlendiriyor. “

merak saldım. Spor hayatım başladıktan sonra hedefim spor

da model uçak yapmayı, takı tasarımı ile uğraşmayı

koşuyorum, amatör olarak yarışlara da katılıyorum. En son
Antalya koşusunda 10 km de yarıştım. Hedeflediğim
sürenin altında bir sürede, 40 dakika 44 saniyede bitirip 13.
oldum. Yamaç paraşütü sporu ile uğraşıyorum, geçen
Kasım tatilinde Fethiye Ölüdeniz’de ilk irtifa (1700m)
uçuşumu yaptım. “
f) “Zamanlar arasında yolculuk yapabilmeyi isterdim. Bazen
ileriyi görmek, bazen geriye dönmek güzel olurdu
herhalde.”
e) “Önüme gelecek sorunlar ile ilgili geriye dönerdim. Küçük
dokunuşlar yaparak sorunu çözmek yerine sorunun
oluşmasını engellerdim.”
g) “Uçuk bir hedefim yok. En son katıldığım Antalya
koşusunda kendi gruplarında yarışlara katılan 75-80
yaşlarında insanların 10 km yarıştığını gördüm. Bende o
yaşlarda koşabilecek kadar sağlıklı olabilmeyi ve spor
yapabilmeyi istiyorum. “

for 4 years. Since 2005, I have been serving as

c) “I like all vacations which include my wife, my daughter and
sports. For example, to get up early in the morning and set
up tents and then to shoulder the full paragliding equipment
to climb 300 m to the top of a hill and then; to let myself glide
into thin air is quite relaxing for me, even if it seems taxing.”
d) “I wanted to become a fire fighter when I was a little child,
then I wanted to be a doctor. After I started my sports life, my
target shifted and I aimed to enter the Sports Academy.”
e) “I have a talent for handicraft, I like to craft something and
then watch it go. Although I don't really have the time
anymore, I still enjoy constructing model airplanes and
designing jewelry. I also enjoy skiing very much. I jog
regularly; I even participate in the amateur races. My most
recent race was the Antalya 109 km race. I completed the
track faster than I had anticipated, in 40 minutes 44 seconds,
and became the 13th. I am interested in paragliding as a
sport, and last year during the November break, I had my
first high-altitude flight (1700m) in Ölüdeniz, Fethiye.”
f) “I would like to be able to travel in time. I guess it would be nice
to peek into the future on some occasions or to turn back to
the past sometimes.”
e) “I would turn back in time for the problems that I would be
faced with. Rather than try to solve the issue with minor
adjustments, I would then prevent the occurrence of the
problem altogether.”
g) “I don't have any extreme goals. During my last race in
Antalya, I saw people 75-80 years old who participated in
the races who ran over 10 km. I also want to be healthy
enough at that age to run and to do sports.”

gibi çalışmalarım olmuştu ve bir dönem Dışişleri’nde
çalışmayı düşünmüştüm.”
e) “Tarsus Amerikan Koleji’nde 7 yıl boyunca okulu
İngilizce Drama Kulübündeydim. Pek çok oyun ve
müzikalde görev alıp festivallere katılmıştım. Bu konuda
ödüller de almıştım.”
f) “Zamanda yolculuk edebilmeyi çok isterdim. Eğitim
konusunda gelecekte yaşanacak değişiklikleri bilerek
bugünden gerekli planlamayı yapardım..”
g) “Emekli olduğumda eğitim konusunda edindiğim
deneyimleri danışmanlık faaliyetleri ve yazmayı
planladığım bir kitapla değerlendirmeyi
düşünüyorum.”

İkinci dönem itibari ile aramıza iki bayan
güvenlik elemanı katıldı. Okulumuzu
koruyan 25 kişilik güvenlik kadrosuna
katılan iki yeni bayan eleman diğer güvenlik
kadrosundan farklı olarak sadece mesai
saatlerinde görev yapıyor ve iş alanları
ilköğretim ve lise binası ile sınırlı. Ayşen
Merey ve Sevcen İnce. Eminiz onlara
koridorlarda rastlamışsınızdır. Peki şimdi
onları biraz daha yakından tanımaya ne
dersiniz?
Two new security staff have joined us as of
the second semester. The two female
members, who joined the security team of 25
keeping our school safe, work only during
regular working hours and serve only in the
elementary school and lise buildings, as
opposed to the rest of the team. Ayşen
Merey and Sevcen İnce. We are sure you
have come across them in the halls. What
about getting to know them a little closer?
AYŞEN MEREY
AYŞEN MEREY
Sakarya doğumlu Ayşen Merey üç kardeşin arasındaki tek kız
aramıza katılmadan önce Sakarya'da bir alışveriş merkezinde
güvenlik görevlisi olarak görev yapıyordu. Ayşen Merey,
polis olma hayali ile başladığı kariyerinin ilerleyen
adımlarında aldığı eğitimin kendisini
güvenlik alanında yönlendirmesi
sonucunda bu alanda uzmanlık
kazanmış. Okulda çalışmaya
başladığındaki duygularını
“Okulumuzun ve kurumumuzun
oldukça büyük olması sebebi ile
kendimi çok heyecanlı, mutlu,
dolayısıyla stres altında hissettim.”
diye ifade ediyor. İşe ilk başlamanın
heyecanını üzerinden attıktan sonra
burada çalışmayı istemesinin nedenini şu
sözleri ile ifade ediyor “ Koç Özel İlköğretim Okulu ve Lisesi
gibi eğitim alanında önde giden herkesin parmakla gösterdiği
böyle bir yerde çalışma şansı yakalayabilmek benim için
büyük mutluluk ve gurur kaynağı olmuştur. Beni de aranıza
The Sakarya-born Ayşen Merey is working in the
Elementary School building as security personnel. The
only girl among three siblings, Aysen Merey used to work
as a security personnel in a shopping mall in Sakarya before
the Koç School. Aysen Merey
specialized in her current
profession as a result of the
training she received early in her
career, which she started out on
with the dream of becomming a
police officer. When Ayşen
Merey first started here at the
Koç School she felt, very
excited, happy and also under
a lot of stress because our
school and our institution is
so large.” She states that her main motivation for working
here after the initial excitement wore off was “because it
was" a source of great joy and pride for me to get the chance
to work in the Koç School, an institution which is

SEVCAN İNCE
SEVCAN İNCE
Artvin doğumlu olan Sevcan İnce evli ve on iki kardeşli bir
aileden geliyor. Daha önce G4s KİPA'da özel güvenlik
görevlisi olarak çalışmış ve polis olmayı çok isteyen Sevcan
İnce güvenlik görevlisi mesleğini seçmesinin
sebebini şu sözleri ile ifade ediyor, “Polis
olmayı çok istiyordum, okula giremedim ama
ona yakın olduğu için güvenlik mesleğini
tercih ettim.” .
Born in Artvin, Sevcan İnce is married and comes from a
family of twelve siblings. She used to work in G4s KİPA as
security personnel. Sevcan İnce, who wanted very much to
become a police officer, explains the reason of
her choice of profession, “I wanted to become a
police officer, I couldn't get in to the police
school but I preferred the field of security as a
career, which is close.”
Okulda çalışmaktan çok mutlu olduğunu ifade
eden Sevcan İnce okul ve çalışanları ile ilgili
duygularını şunları söylüyor, “Daha önce
adını bildiğim ve çok önemli okullar arasında
yer aldığını duyduğum bir yere kabul edilmek
beni çok
etkiledi; çok şanslı olduğumu
düşündüm. Çalışmaya başladıktan sonra da
çalışanların yakınlığını, sıcaklığını, insanlara
verilen değeri gördükçe çok daha mutlu oldum;
kısa zamanda uyum sağladım. Geldiğim
günden beri güler yüzünü ve sıcaklığını
esirgemeyen bütün arkadaşlarıma teşekkür ederim.”
Bir eğitim kurumunda çalışmanın kendisini daha fazla
geliştireceğine inan İnce okulda çalışmaktan mutluluk
duyduğunu ifade ediyor. Sevcan İnce'ye tekrar aramıza
“Hoş geldiniz” diyoruz.
Sevcan İnce states that she is very happy to be
working in the school. “I was very thrilled
when I was accepted here, which I had heard of
before and which I knew to be among the most
prominent schools, I thought I was very lucky.
After I started my job I saw how warm and
close the employees were and how valuable
people were regarded to be, I adapted in a very
short time. I thank my friends who have been
kind and warm to me since my first day here.”
Sevcan İnce, who states that it is a pleasure to work in an
educational institution, believes that she can develop herself
further in this institution. We “welcome” Sevcan İnce
among us once more.
