BRUSHLESS SYNCHRONOUS CONSTANT VOLTAGE GENERATORS
APPLICATION
Brushless synchronous constant voltage generators shown in this
catalogue are designed for generating electrical energy on all
locations and environmental conditions where the distribution
network is not available or when an interruption of power supply
occurs. The main applications are as generators driven by diesel
engines, hydro turbines, wind turbines etc. The generators comply
with IEC 60034-1. In addition, on special request, they can be
designed in accordance with the recommendations of other
classification societies.
OPERATION PRINCIPLE
Assembly of the generator unit is consisting of the main generator,
the exciter and of the elements for voltage regulation. The exciter is
used for a main generator excitation supply. The output voltage of
the exciter (4) is regulated by two separate excitation windings. One
of these windings (5) is supplied from the compound transformer (8)
and the additional resistor (9), while the other winding (6) is supplied
from the voltage regulator (11). Compound transformer ensures
compensation of the voltage dip while the additional resistor
ensures safe and reliable self-excitation. Direct regulation of the
main generator output voltage is ensured by its own excitation
winding (2) and rotating rectifier (3) of the exciter. The voltage
regulator (11) ensures regulation of output voltage of the exciter to
kip output voltage of the generator constant and irrespective of the
load.
SPEED AND DIRECTION OF ROTATION
The generators are designed to withstand rotation speed 1.2 times
the rated one. For higher speed, please consult the manufacturer.
The generators are capable to operate in both directions.
COUPLING
The generators can be connected to a driving machine (diesel
engine, turbine, electric motor etc.) either by the elastic or rigid
coupling.
THERMAL PROTECTION
On special request, stator windings of the generator can be
protected from overheating by PTC thermistors in accordance with
the IEC 60034-11.
MECHANICAL DESIGN
The stator housing of the generator is a welded steel design. The
rotor of the exciter and the rotating rectifier are mounted on the shaft
of the main machine. The stator of the exciter is embedded inside
the end shield of the main generator (opposite of the driving side).
The voltage regulator, resistors for setting and transformers are
embedded outside of the end shield meaning that access is very
easy. They are protected by the special cover. With the generators
type DRE 301-4 and DRE 302-4 voltage regulator and resistors for
setting are embedded in a terminal box of the generators. This type
no need compound transformer. Aluminum made fan is located on a
drive side. The rotors are balanced dynamically according to the
DIN ISO 2373 and IEC 60034-14. The generators are designed for
three basic mounting arrangements: IM B3/B14, IM B14/B20 and
IM B5/B20, in accordance with the IEC 60034-7.
MECHANICAL PROTECTION AND COOLING
The generators are built with IP 23 mechanical protection degree,
according to IEC 60034-5. Cooling is performed by a fan, which
sucks cooling air from the non-drive side, and after cooling inside
parts of the machine, throws out hot air on the drive side.
1. Stator of the main generator
2. Excitation winding of the main
generator
3. Rotating rectifier
4. Rotor of the exciter
5. Compound field of the exciter
6. Regulating field of the exciter
7. Rectifier
8. Compound transformer
9. Resistor
10. Static transformer (for parallel
operation)
11. Voltage regulator
12. Voltage setting
13. Setting of static
BEARINGS
Design of the end shields and selected bearings provide quiet and
long-term generator operation. The bearings are shown in the
table 1, page 5.
RADIO INTERFERENCE PROTECTION
Protection degree against radio interference of the generators is N,
according to the IEC CISPR-14-1.
Generators with higher protection degree available on special
request.
VOLTAGE AND FREQUENCY
The generators are designed for following voltages and frequencies,
according to IEC 60038:
380 ÷ 415 V / 50 Hz
440 ÷ 480 V / 60 Hz
WINDING INSULATION
The generator windings are designed with insulation class F and
impregnated by VPI method. This insulation system is suitable for
temperature rise limit of 105 K above ambient temperature of 40 ° C,
but generators of this catalogue meet temperature rise limit, which
correspond, to insulation class B.
VOLTAGE STABILITY
Maximum voltage deviation in a static operating mode, up to rated
power and power factor from cosϕ = 0.8 (inductive) up the
cosϕ = 1, is ± 1.5 % of the set point.
Dynamic voltage changing caused by a sudden change in load, in
respect of the generator type, is between 11 % and 17 % of the set
point.
The values correspond to unchanged speed and power factor
cosϕ = 0.8 (inductive), in first period. The set voltage value is
reaching after 5 to 10 periods (from 0.1 to 0.2 seconds).
NOISE AND VIBRATION
The generators satisfy the noise level emission in accordance with
the IEC 60034-9. Vibration severity grade is N in accordance with
the IEC 60034-14. Lower noise and vibration levels are available on
special request.
VOLTAGE DISTORTION
Distortion factor of the output voltage of the generator from no load
up to rated power and power factor cosϕ=0.8 is ≤ 5 %, measured
on a phase voltage.
OVERLOAD CAPACITY
The generators heated to an operating temperature are capable to
withstand current equal to 1.1 times the rated current for one hour.
The same way, they can be overloaded by the current 1.5 times the
rated one for not longer than 2 minutes.
SHORT CIRCUIT CURRENT
The generators are capable to withstand (without damaging) short
circuit currents which are 3 to 4 times higher than the rated one, not
longer than 3 seconds.
OUTPUT
According to the IEC 60034-1, the rated output power of the
generators refers to continuous running duty (S1) at rated voltage,
rated frequency and power factor cosϕ=0.8 (inductive) to cosϕ=1.
Generators for the special operating conditions, temperature above
40 ° and altitude above 1000 m ASL, are available on request.
