AKÇA, known for its high quality products and services
for the construction and automotive sectors, selected
an Alcatel-Lucent VoIP solution in order to improve
communication efficiency between its branch offices.
One of the most successful enterprises in Turkey, AKÇA provides a wide range of products
and services to the construction sector, in close co-operation with AKÇA Hazır Beton A.Ş.
These include ready-mixed concrete, instant plaster, sand sieving and washing, stone breaker
installations, asphalt road construction, construction products and excavation services. AKÇA is
also responsible for sales and after-sales services for Volvo Engineering Vehicles – which has a
55% market share in Turkey – and for Volvo automobiles in Denizli and Antalya. AKÇA Makine
Otomativ A.Ş. provides BP Castrol mineral oil distribution services in Istanbul. AKÇA attaches
great importance to customer satisfaction and closely follows the latest technology in order to
continuously improve both production and service quality.

Primary goal: reduce costs
AKÇA understands that efficient internal communication
is crucial to improving quality of service. Erdoğan Altıntaş,
Data-Processing Manager of AKÇA: “The cost of long distance
calls is high. We wanted to decrease these costs by using VoIP
for calls between our branch offices.”
AKÇA ‘s VoIP infrastructure covers 11 branch offices spread
over 7 provinces: Denizli Center, Denizli Hacıeyüplü, Denizli
Serinhisar, Denizli Beylerbeyi, Aydın Kuyucak, İzmir, Ankara,
Istanbul, Antalya-1, Antalya-2 and Trabzon.
The best voice quality
To find the most suitable solution, AKÇA carried out a thorough
selection process. The criteria included integrated VoIP and SIP
support, modular construction, remote administration over the
Internet, a single number plan, VoIP voice quality, centralized
management and mobility. According to Erdoğan Altıntaş, the
main challenge was to keep to the budget in the face of all these
requirements.
The selection process started with the identification of basic
technical features and capacities. Multiple bids were received,
features and prices were compared, and various brands tested.
Ultimately, Alcatel-Lucent was selected, as it offered the best

VoIP voice quality and a solution that met AKÇA’s requirements
completely. The solution also provided the best benefit/cost
ratio, capacity rates, energy savings, applications, management,
performance and security.
This project marked the first time AKÇA and Sistaş had
co-operated. Erdoğan Altıntaş explains Sistaş’s most significant
advantage. “Sistaş provides rapid and optimal service in critical
regions anywhere in the country. Our co-operation was successful
at every stage – from generating ideas, to identifying needs,
to installation, to technical support.”
300 users in 11 different locations
AKÇA chose Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniPCX™ Office
Communication Server to be piloted in two branch offices, and
afterwards extended to the remaining nine offices. Installation
went very smoothly; as planned, a single number system was
implemented. Erdoğan Altıntaş: “AKÇA’s 11 branch offices
use different solutions, but now they can all communicate
through VoIP with an SIP protocol by using the existing
VPN infrastructure. Furthermore, we can collect all kinds
of call records with this new communication infrastructure,
and manage them centrally.”
Alcatel-Lucent solution efficiently
decreases communication
costs for AKÇA.
The selection process for the new infrastructure, which benefits
about 300 users spread over 11 locations, took about one
year. The set-up, however, was completed in only one month.
After the pilot in the first two branch offices, Sistaş was in
charge of installing the system in the remaining nine branch
offices, all at one go. Sistaş will continue to be responsible for
system support.
Rather than integrating the new VoIP infrastructure with the
old systems, AKÇA decided to make a fresh start with a brand
new technology. VoIP was implemented in the WLAN network
structure of the branch office stations using an SIP protocol.
Additionally, DECT technology was used in Antalya (two branch
offices). Users had the opportunity to accompany technical
staff during and after the installation, to ask questions and
get immediate answers.
Zero cost, central management
Ozan Yıldız, İzmir District Sales Manager of Sistaş,
summarizes the advantages of Alcatel-Lucent’s solution for
AKÇA: “AKÇA has succeeded in meeting the intensive
telecommunication needs between its branch offices,
with zero costs. Moreover the administration of all the branch
office stations from a single, central point has provided
advantages both technically and also in the detailed reporting
now available.”
