AMAÇ VE KAPSAM
Akademik Geriatri Dergisi, 2009 y›l›nda yay›n hayat›na bafllam›fl olup Akademik Geriatri Derne¤inin süreli yay›n› olarak Bilimsel T›p Yay›nevi taraf›ndan
Mart, Haziran ve Eylül aylar›nda olmak üzere y›lda 3 say› yay›mlanmaktad›r.
Akademik Geriatri Dergisi’nde yay›mlanacak yaz›lar›n seçiminde hakem de¤erlendirme sistemi kullan›lmaktad›r. Derginin yay›n dili Türkçe ve ‹ngilizce’dir.
Araflt›rma yaz›lar› özellikle desteklenmektedir.
Derginin amac›; geriatriyi ilgilendiren konularda yap›lan deneysel çal›flmalar,
klinik çal›flmalar, derlemeler, olgu sunumlar›, k›sa rapor ve editöre mektup türünden yaz›lar ile okuyucular aras› bilgi al›flveriflini sa¤lamak ve bilimsel geliflime
katk›da bulunmakt›r. Yay›mlad›¤› yaz›lar›n uluslararas› temsiline ve at›f›na çal›flarak ülkemizin bilimsel geliflimine katk›da bulunmak derginin yay›mlanma amaçlar› aras›ndad›r.
Derginin hedef okuyucu kitlesi baflta Geriatri, ‹ç Hastal›klar› dallar›nda çal›flan uzman ve asistan doktorlar olmak üzere t›bb›n di¤er branfllar›nda çal›flan ve
geriatrik hastal›klarla ilgilenen tüm hekimlerdir.

AIMS AND SCOPE
The Journal of Academic Geriatrics is a periodical journal of the Academic
Geriatrics Society and has been published three times a year in March, June
and September by Bilimsel Tip Yayinevi since 2009. A peer-reviewed system is
used to select manuscripts. The languages of the journal are Turkish and English. Original research articles are particularly supported and encouraged.
The goal of the journal is to present and improve collective scientific knowledge and the scientific background dealing with geriatrics via experimental
and clinical studies, reviews, case reports, short communications and letters to
the editor. To undertake a novel effort in the international representation and
attribution of published articles are the other aims of the journal.
The target readers of The Journal of Academic Geriatrics include geriatrics,
internal medicine specialists and residents as well as all other physicians working in the field of geriatrics.

Anatomik terimlerin Latinceleri kullan›lmal›d›r. Gündelik t›p diline yerleflmifl
terimler ise okunduklar› gibi Türkçe yaz›m kurallar›na uygun olarak yaz›lmal›d›r. ‹ngilizce veya baflka bir yabanc› dildeki flekli ile yaz›lan terimler t›rnak içinde belirtilmelidir.

prensip olarak kabul eder. Bu nedenle insanlar üzerinde yap›lan tüm çal›flmalarda, yaz›n›n Materyal ve Metod/Hastalar ve Metod k›sm›nda etik kurul onay› al›nd›¤› belirtilmelidir. Çal›flman›n yap›ld›¤› hasta veya gönüllüler bilgilendirilerek
onaylar› al›nmal› ve bu durum makalenin Materyal ve Metod/Hastalar ve Metod
k›sm›nda yaz›lmal›d›r. Hayvanlar üzerinde yap›lan çal›flmalarda, yaz›n›n Materyal
ve Metod k›sm›nda çal›flman›n Laboratuvar Hayvanlar›n›n Bak›m› ve Kullan›m› K›lavuzu (www.nap.edu/catolog/5140.html) prensipleri do¤rultusunda yap›ld›¤›
ve ilgili kurumdan etik kurul onay› al›nd›¤› belirtilmelidir. Gerek görülürse editör
taraf›ndan etik kurul onay›n›n bir örne¤i yazarlardan istenebilir.
Yaz›lar›n hemen iflleme konulabilmesi için belirtilen yaz›m kurallar›na tam olarak uygun olmas› gereklidir. Editör ve yay›n yürütme kurulu yay›n koflullar›na
uymayan yaz›lar›; düzeltmek üzere yazar›na geri gönderme, biçimce düzenleme veya reddetme yetkisine sahiptir.
Gönderilen yaz›lar önce yay›n yürütme kurulu ve editör taraf›ndan de¤erlendirilir. Yay›n yürütme kurulu ve editörün onay›n› alan yaz›lar, isimleri gizli tutulan konuyla ilgili üç dan›flma kurulu üyesinden en az ikisinin olumlu görüflünü ald›¤›nda yay›mlanmaya hak kazan›r. Dan›flman belirleme yetkisi tamamen editöre aittir. Dan›flmanlar belirlenirken derginin dan›flma kurulu veya
uluslararas› yay›n dan›flma kurulundan isimler seçilebilece¤i gibi yaz›n›n konusuna göre ihtiyaç duyuldu¤unda yurt içinden veya yurt d›fl›ndan ba¤›ms›z dan›flmanlar da belirlenebilir.

belirtilir.

10. Yaz›lar, “Arial” karakterinde 1.5 sat›r aral›kl› olarak ve 12 punto kullan›larak
yaz›lmal›, sayfan›n her iki kenar›nda 2 cm boflluk b›rak›lmal›d›r. Yay›n metni
IBM uyumlu bilgisayar program›nda (Microsoft Windows, en az Word 98)
haz›rlanm›fl olmal›d›r. Sayfalara bafll›k sayfas›ndan bafllayarak s›rayla numara
verilmelidir. Numaralar sayfan›n sa¤ alt köflesinde yer almal›d›r. Ana metin
yazar isimleri ve çal›flt›klar› kurumlara ait herhangi bir bilgi içermemelidir.
11. Yaz›n›n daha önce bir dergide yay›mlanmam›fl veya yay›mlanmak üzere gönderilmemifl oldu¤unu ve gönderilen yaz›ya tüm yazarlar›n onay verdi¤ini bildiren, makaledeki isim s›ras›na uygun biçimde yazarlarca imzalanm›fl bir üst
yaz› makalenin kayd› s›ras›nda online de¤erlendirme sistemine yüklenebilir.

Söz konusu yaz›da çal›flmaya yap›lan tüm mali katk›lar ve varsa sponsoru da belirtilmelidir. aç›k ad ve soyadlar› yaz›lmal›d›r. Çal›flmalar›n yap›ld›¤› klinik, anabilim dal›/bilim dal›, enstitü ve kuruluflun ad› belirtilmelidir. Bafll›k sayfas›nda yaz›flmalar›n yap›laca¤› kiflinin ad›, yaz›flma adresi, elektronik posta adresi, telefon ve
faks numaralar› yer almal›d›r. Çal›flma, daha önce bir kongre ya da sempozyumda bildiri olarak sunulmufl ise bu sayfada belirtilmelidir.
16. Editöre mektup ve klinik görünüm d›fl›ndaki tüm yaz› türlerinde Türkçe ve ‹ngilizce özet yer almal›d›r. Özet bölümünde k›saltmalardan mümkün oldu¤unca kaç›n›lmal›d›r. Kaynak, flekil, tablo ve at›f yer almamal›d›r.
17. Anahtar kelimeler Index Medicus Medical Subject Headings (MeSH)’e uygun
olacak flekilde en az iki en fazla befl adet olmal›d›r. Anahtar kelimeler için

18. Araflt›rma yaz›lar›; Türkçe bafll›k, Türkçe bölümlendirilmifl özet (en fazla 300

20. Derleme türü makaleler; Türkçe bafll›k, Türkçe özet ve Türkçe anahtar kelimeler, ‹ngilizce bafll›k, ‹ngilizce özet, ‹ngilizce anahtar kelimeler içermelidir.
Derleme türü makalelerde özet tek paragraf olacak flekilde haz›rlanmal› ve
300 kelime ile s›n›rl› olmal›d›r. Bölümlendirilmifl özet haz›rlanmas›na gerek
yoktur. Kaynak say›s› mümkünse 40’›n üzerinde olmamal›d›r.

kelime yer almal›d›r. K›sa raporlarda en fazla iki tablo ve bir flekil/grafik/resim bulunmal›d›r. Bölümlendirilmifl özet haz›rlanmas›na gerek yoktur. Kaynak
say›s› 10 ile s›n›rl› olmal›d›r.
23. Editöre mektup bölümü, dergide daha önce yay›mlanm›fl yaz›lara elefltiri getirmek ve katk› sa¤lamak amac›yla veya orijinal bir çal›flma olarak haz›rlanmam›fl ve haz›rlanamayacak bilgilerin iletilmesi amac›yla oluflturuldu¤undan k›sa-öz olmal›, 1000 kelimeyi geçmemeli, özet içermemeli ve kaynaklar› 10 ile
s›n›rl› olmal›d›r.
24. Klinik görünüm bölümünde, geriatri ile ilgili klinik tablolar›n görüntüleri yay›mlan›r. Bu tür makaleler tamamen görsel a¤›rl›kl› olmal›d›r. Klinik görünüm
yaz›lar›nda bafll›k en fazla sekiz kelime olmal› ve en fazla üç yazar ad› yer almal›d›r. Klinik görünüm alt›ndaki yaz› 150 kelimeyi geçmemeli, hastan›n öyküsü, fizik inceleme ve laboratuvar bulgular›, klinik seyir, uyguland›ysa tedaviye yan›t ve hastan›n son durumu k›saca özetlenmelidir. Görünüm üzerinde

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE AUTHORS
1.
The Journal of Academic Geriatrics is a periodical journal of the Academic
Geriatrics Society and has been published three times a year in March, June
and September by Bilimsel Tip Yayinevi.

The goal of the Journal is to present and improve collective scientific knowledge dealing with Geriatrics via experimental and clinical studies, reviews,
case reports, short communications and letters to the editor to the readers
to improve the scientific background.

The publishing languages are Turkish and English. All manuscripts should
comply with the Turkish Language Institution dictionary and the Turkish
Language Writing Guide Book (http://tdk.org.tr). Anatomic terminology
should be based on Latin nomenclature. Medical terms, in daily use, should
be written according to Turkish spelling rules. The words required to be written in their original language by the author are written within quotation
marks.

All manuscripts should comply with “Uniform Requirements for
Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” produced and updated by
the International Committee of Medical Journals Editors
(www.icmje.org).

The Journal of Academic Geriatrics executes compliance with the
Declaration of Helsinki Principles (http://www.wma.net/en/30publications/10policies/b3/index.html). All manuscripts concerning human subjects
must contain a statement in the “Materials and Methods/Patients and
Methods” section, indicating that the study was approved by the
Institutional Review Board. There should also be a statement of declaration
about informed consent obtained from research subjects, and it should be
placed in the “Materials and Methods/Patients and Methods” section. All
manuscripts dealing with animal subjects must contain a statement indicating that the study was performed according to “The Guide for the Care and
Use of Laboratory Animals” (www.nap.edu/catolog/5140.html) with the
approval of the Institutional Review Board, in the “Materials and Methods”
section. The Editor may ask for a copy of the approval document.

The submitted manuscripts should conform exactly to the instructions in
order to be reviewed promptly. The Editor and the Editorial Executive Board
have the right to reject, to require additional revision or to revise the format
of manuscripts which do not follow the rules.
Initial evaluation of the submitted papers is performed by the Editor and the
Editorial Executive Board. The papers approved for reviewer evaluation are
sent to three selected reviewers as blinded-manuscripts. The decision of
acceptance of the manuscripts needs at least two reviewers’ affirmative
opinions. The Editor is the complete authority regarding reviewer selection.
The reviewers are mainly selected from National and International Advisory
Board. The Editor may decide to send the manuscript to independent
national or international reviewers according to the subject.

The dates of received and accepted of the manuscript are stated in the end
of the manuscript when published in the journal.

The manuscripts should be submitted via online manuscript evaluation system (www.akadgeriatri.org).
10. The manuscript text should be written in Arial font, 12 point-type, 1.5-spaced with 2 cm margins on the left and right sides. The article should be prepared in IBM compatible programs (Microsoft Windows, Word 98 at least).
The pages should be arranged in numerical order beginning from the initial
page, and the numbers should be at the bottom right corner of every page.
The main text should not contain any information regarding author(s)’s name and affiliation.
11. The author and the co-authors should sign a cover letter declaring acception
of full responsibility for the accuracy of all contents in accordance with the
order of authors. They should also declare that the manuscript is an original
work that has not been previously published, and is not currently submitted
to any other publication. The cover letter should include contributions and
responsibilities of each author, and whether there is a conflict of interest
regarding manuscript. If there is no conflict of interest it should also be stated. In case of any financial contributions, the sponsors should also be denoted in the cover letter. The cover letter may be sent by fax to +90 312 426

12. All the entities that provide contribution to the technical content, data collection and analysis, writing, revision etc. of the manuscript and yet do not
meet the criteria to be an author should be mentioned in the acknowledgement part.
13. The manuscript which has been presented previously as an abstract in any
congress or symposium may be mentioned on condition with the statement
of the date and the place of the meeting.
14. Abbreviations should be internationally accepted and should be defined accordingly in the text in parenthesis when first mentioned and used in the text.
15. Title page of the manuscript should include Title (Turkish and English), running title (Turkish and English, not more than 40 characters including
spaces), Author(s), Institution(s) and Address for Correspondence with email address, fax and phone numbers. Authors should indicate on this page
whether the study has been presented previously as an abstract in any congress or symposium.
16. Abstracts should be prepared in Turkish and English for all manuscripts
except “Letters to the Editor” and “Images in Geriatrics”. Abbreviations
should be avoided in abstracts. References, tables and citations should not
be used.
17. There should be two to five key words complying with the Index Medicus
Medical Subject Headings (MeSH)
(www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html).
18. Research Articles should include; Title, structured abstract (Introduction, Materials and Methods/Patients and Methods, Results and Conclusion, limited
to 300 words), and key words in Turkish and English, Introduction, Materials and Methods/Patients and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgement and References. Research articles should not exceed 5000 words and
40 references.
19. The Editor’s approval is required before submitting a review article since
reviews to be published are planned by the Editor.
20. The reviews should include; Title, unstructured abstract and key words in
Turkish and English and the main text section. Limit the abstract to 300
words. The number of references should not exceed 40.
21. Case reports should include; Title, abstract and key words in Turkish and
English, Introduction, Case, Discussion and References. Case reports should
have a short introduction and discussion sections, and an unstructured
abstract should be prepared as one paragraph. The number of references
should not exceed 20.
22. Concise independent reports representing a significant contribution in the
related field may be submitted as a short communication. The maximum
length of a short communication is 1500 words. Short communications
should include title, an unstructured paragraph of abstract and 2-5 key
words in Turkish and English. The main text should include a maximum of
one figure and two tables. Number of references should not exceed 10.
23. The letters to the Editor is for letters that are addressing issues or exchanging views on topics arising from published articles or uncommitted subjects
without original research interest. It should not exceed 1000 words and not
include an abstract. The number of references should not exceed 10.
24. Images in Geriatrics are images dealing with related subjects. The title
should not contain more than eight words. No more than three authors
may be listed. The legend should not exceed 150 words. The legend to the
image should succinctly present relevant clinical information, including a
short description of the patient's history, relevant physical and laboratory
findings, clinical course, response to treatment (if any), and condition at
last follow-up. All labeled structures in the image should be described and
explained in the legend.
25. Figures and tables should be numbered according to the sequence of referral within the text. Each item should be cited in the text.
26. Each table should be prepared with double spacing on a separate page. Tables
should have a brief title. Authors should place explanatory matter in footnotes

not in the heading. Explanations should be made for all nonstandard abbreviations in footnotes. The following symbols should be used for abbreviations,
in sequence: *,†,‡,§,||,¶,**,††,‡‡. Each table should be cited in text.
27. Figures should be either professionally drawn or photographed, and these
items should be submitted as photographic-quality digital images. Figures
should be submitted in a format that will produce high-quality image (for
example, JPEG or GIF). Authors should control the images of such files on a
computer screen before submitting them to be sure they meet their own
quality standards.
28. X-ray films, scans and other diagnostic images, as well as pictures of pathology specimens should be submitted as sharp, glossy, black-and-white or
color photographic images. Letters, numbers, and symbols on figures should
be clear and consistent throughout, and large enough to remain legible
when the figure is reduced for publication. Figures should be made as selfexplanatory as possible. For recognizable photographs of patients, signed
releases of the patient or of his/her legal representative should be submitted otherwise, patient names or eyes must be blocked out to prevent identification.
29. Type or print out legends for illustrations using double spacing, starting on
a separate page, with Arabic numerals corresponding to the illustrations.
When symbols, arrows, numbers or letters are used to identify parts of illustrations, identify and explain each one clearly in the legend.
30. When the author(s) has/have used a figure or table from another source,
permission of the author and publisher must be obtained, the necessary
printing permission document must be provided and the source referred to
in the text.
31. References
Data and manuscript that have not yet been published should not be cited
as reference. These should be stated in the main text as “author(s), unpublished data, year”.
References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are
mentioned in the text. Identify references in the text, tables and legends at
the end of the sentences in brackets. List all authors up to six authors. For
more than six authors, list the first six authors followed by “et al”. Journal
names should be abbreviated as listed in “Index Medicus” or in “ULAKBIM/Turkish Medical Index”. Note the following examples:

acceptance of the manuscript, a copyright transfer form is sent to the author
of correspondence by e-mail and required to be signed and returned by email ([email protected]) or by fax (+90 312 426 93 93).
33. There is no royalty payment to the authors.
