Most people love the weather here, the ‘swallows ‘ stay here for the cooler months, preferring to visit their homes and family in cooler
climates or take their holidays in the height
and depths of the seasons in North Cyprus.
The hardened expatriate community stay and
try to find cool spots to avoid the midday heat
and the humidity during the summer months,
finding solace in a cool pool in the shade and
then try to find warmth in the cooler, wetter
months of December and January.
This is what the transient; expatriate community came to North Cyprus to find. Good weather, a slower pace of life, value for money, quiet

properties on this Mediterranean island enjoy
such a life; but when things go wrong, they go
wrong with a bang.

High profile court cases have highlighted such
problems, with builders and developers failing
to fulfil their obligations and then the recourse
not being sufficient to protect the usually innocent purchasers who have invested a large
amount, if not all, of their life savings in their
retirement plan.

Their dream holiday or retirement home in the sun suddenly becomes a nightmare, often resulting in them having no
option other than to return home with a much reduced bank
balance and no house in the Mediterranean to enjoy.
This also impacts on the large majority of highly respected
and diligent developers and builders who deliver exactly
what their client wanted and within the price agreed, as these
cases are often not discussed, devaluing the existing properties with harmful media coverage.
The majority of purchasers in North Cyprus actually have
the property that they were promised but unfortunately the
unlucky ones have to rely on the oversubscribed local legal
system to try to regain either their funds or a completed
property.
With the value of hindsight at our disposal we can all see
where the problems arose but this doesn’t help the purchasers, who now find that they are in the legal system of a foreign country, probably don’t speak the language and again
have to rely on a third party for assistance at a time when
they should be sitting relaxing around their pool sipping
Margaritas.
As with the purchase of anything, anywhere in the world, the
