quand le soleil illumine de ses rayons les profondeurs de la fontaine, plus de cent
couleurs paraîssent aux cristaux qui deviennent jaunes, indes, vermeils. Ce
cristal est merveilleux et a telle vertu que les arbres et les fleurs d’alentour et
tout ce qui orne le verger s’y reflètent à sa place. Pour faire entendre la chose, je
prendrai un exemple. Tout ainsi qu’un miroir montre sans voile la forme et la
couleur des objets qui sont placés devant, de même, je vous le dis en vérité, les
cristaux révèlent à ceux qui regardent dans l’eau toute l’ordonnance du verger.
De quelque côté qu’ils soient, ils en voient une moitié; et s’ils se tournent, ils
aperçoivent le reste, et il n’y a si petit détail, tant soit-il caché, qu’on n’y
remarque, comme s’il était peint dans les cristaux.

when the sun, that sees all, throws its rays into the fountain and when its light
descends to the bottom, then more than a hundred colors appear in the crystals
which, on account of the sun, become yellow, blue, and red. The crystals are so
wonderful and have such power that the entire place—trees, flowers, and
whatever adorns the garden—appears there all in order. To help you understand,
I will give you an example. Just as the mirror shows things that are in front of it,
without cover, in their true colors and shapes, just so, I tell you truly, do the
crystals reveal the whole condition of the garden, without deception, to those
who gaze into the water, for always, wherever they are, they see one half of the
garden, and if they turn, then they may see the rest. There is nothing so small,
however hidden or shut up, that is not shown there in the crystal as if it were
painted in detail.
