Tülin ONAT
She graduated at Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy from the Advanced Painting Department.
She made reproduction by studying and examining many European museums. Major
reproductions were „The Turkish Bath‟ by Ingres and „Carvey‟ Andrea Mantegna, which she
made both in Louvre Museum in 1970 and 1971. During the year 1973 she was given a
scholarship by the Austrian Government to study at the „Salzburg Internationale Sommer
Academie für Bildende Kunst‟. In 1987 she established with Hasan Yelmen Derimod Culture
Centre and realized retrospective exhibitions and she was the first in Turkey to publish art
books and organize retrospective Exhibitions. The artist has delivered figurative works in
the 70‟s. The social incidents and changes he country has experienced in this era have been
reflected in her paintings with the emphasis on the expression. Her thematic paintings
in the early 80‟s on „The Women‟ have heralded her figurative works to follow shortly.
The canvasses of unconventional forms used for the first time, the repetition of abstract forms and the rhythm emerged
from repetition. The change in her paintings of this era has gained ever–increasing speed while the problematic of location
equally reveals simplification and attempts of purification from nostalgia. Her painting titled „The Galaxy‟ from 1988 that
covered the floor of a corner of the Derimod Cultural Centre became the centre of attention and proved for the first time
that the canvasses are not necessarily bound for walls. The thick canvasses she later exhibited both on the floor and the wall
(„Canvasses of the object– Big Exhibition – 1990) made a current issue of the fact that the paintings could be considered in
line with the location of the exhibition. „The wall is not merely a space for displaying art, but is integral part of it‟ claims Tülin
Onat and underlines this approach in all of her exhibitions.

Yim Choon LEE
Born in Goseong, Korea in 1965, Yim inherited three–generations of Korean traditional
bamboo and paper art. At age 5, he began to learn these skills from his father. Together,
they traveled throughout the mountains in Korea to collect the bamboo for his father‟s
bamboo art. The bamboo art has a major impact on Yim‟s paintings. When Yim was 9
years old, he went to a bamboo mountainside with his father. Waiting through a sudden
rainstorm, Yim watched the swaying of the bamboo leaves in the wind. With the background
of the mountains, Yim saw a wave of colors that rocked through the entire mountainside.
This illusion was the most beautiful scenery he had ever seen. He wanted to transform
this phenomenon to a canvas. Ever since, Yim has experimented with various materials and
techniques to create his three–dimensional paintings on canvas. In the development of his
art work, Yim started with Korean traditional paper and bamboo art, then experimented in
paintings with soil and sand, and further used Korean traditional paper with light. Later he applied western oil to Korean
traditional paper which created a unique style and texture. From there, he expanded his art horizon to include sculpture,
installation art, and performance art. Since 2010, Yim has experimented with a totally new technique: tearing the canvas.
After removing the canvas, Yim places Korean traditional paper on top of the frame and paints in layers. He then paints both
side of the canvas and replaces it upon the frame. Next, he cuts or tears the surface of the canvas and twists or folds it to
reveal the back side‟s paint. With this method, the colors of the three surfaces blend dynamically and create a unique visual
effect. The three surfaces of painting represent the past (traditional paper surface), present (back of canvas linen), and future
(front of canvas linen). In tearing art, one painting glues together the past, present and future in three dimensions.

Joana KOHEN
Born in Ġstanbul, Joana Kohen is a 22 years old viual artist with a strong set of opinions
and ideology. She describes her work as “Scandalism” – a nem wave which combines
irony, anarchy and revolution –, its aim, to shock. Kohen‟s intention is to break out of the
conservative culture from which she hails, feeling it is her obligation to alter that society‟s
perceptions through the activist subjects within her work.
Her gothic and erotic approach mixes photography, poetry, painting, performance–video art
and installation, boldly and unapologetic. Often using herself as the subject Kohen has a very
specific way in which she wants her audience to view and perceive her art; still coming to
terms with sharing such intimate pieces she committedly forges forward.
Having studied fashion design at Maragoni Institute of Milan and Contemporary Art at The
Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, she is now living back in Ġstanbul.

Mina FEINGOLD
Mina Feingold, changed her life for becoming a sculptor the night after she had seen a
movie about Camille Claudel. After her first work, “Coiffeur”, which she made in 1990,
she continued making female figures. She didn‟t work on abstract themes and she prefered
making figurative sculptures. But, with her latest work, her norms changed. Her work,
titled “Derwish”, is her first male figure in her entire career. In Derwish, a seven meter tall
sculpture weighing five tons, of which she made two smaller versions In 2010, Feingold
wanted to reflect the state of being in a trance. Through “Derwish”, she would pass this
passion on the world and materialise this sentiment strong and difficult to express.

Oral ÜNLÜ
The Artist was graduated from Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University, Faculty of Fine Arts in
2005. Bolu is a city which has had a great impact in his adventure of creation. His areas of
interest are literature of natural philosophy, human psychology and sociology. He merges
his works with other disciplines such as installation and photography. He has a questioning
approach towards the chaos in nature and he questions the vital connection of trees –with
which he highly internalizes himself– to the existence. He has been inspired by their „deep–
rooted‟ life, monumental forms and „objective‟ link to each other.

Taylan AKDAĞ
Taylan Akdag was born in Sivas, in 1980. After completing his primary and secondary
education in Sivas, he graduated from Faculty of Fine Arts at University of Mersin. After
that, he took his Masters degree, as private student, from Department of Drawing, Sculpture
at University of Mersin. Since the beginning of his education life at Fine Arts, Akdag‟s interest
in and love of Sociology has urged him to harmonize his expressions in his works with
sociological subjects. Particularly, he pays special attention on city culture which shapes the
lives of urban people. In this respect, he worked on the „Night Club Culture‟ which was born
in urban space and which is a praxis affecting the lives of „contemporary urban man and
urban underclass woman‟. Hence, the NIGHT CLUB, his latest personal exhibition, evolved
out of his perception of gender and sexuality in the Night Club culture. He has also concerned
himself on illustrations in plastic arts about the story of people who migrated from rural to
urban spaces after mechanization in Turkish agriculture. Accordingly, he has expressed how
those migrated people have kept their rural values, traditions and culture alive, and how they
live together with them in urban spaces. Akdag belives that art is a way of life that encourages the artist to be productive in all
spheres of life. He is also a professional mountaineer who brings the art and the sport (the high altitude) together under the
same roof. In this sense, he performed the Ġrtifai Eserler Projesi (Project of High Altitude Arts) at the top of Nigde Aladaglar
Mountains in 2010. As being an artist in plastic arts, he does not limit himself to any field or realm. He uses any method,
style or material which the subject wants him to make use of. Akdag believes that art is a journey through which the artist is
growing mature and in which there are periods/ phases that the artist passes through and that reveals the inner world and
the evolutionary steps of the artist to infinity.
