ff Eureka™ Sans was developed over a period of several years.
Completed after the Serif version was finished, the Sans was continually
re-examined and updated as it was used for books, magazines, brochures,
posters, T.V. and even postage stamps. The proportions of Eureka are
economic with letterforms ten percent narrower than comparable text
faces. This economy frees the user to space the letters more generously,
an important advantage for, as Bilak says, “looser spacing helps to avoid
the typographic noise inside a text, and retains the individuality of
letters.” The Eureka™ Sans family includes true italics for all weights. The
angle of slope has been minimized to only five degrees and, to
differentiate them more from the Roman versions, the letterforms are
somewhat condensed.
The typeface has a relatively small x-height with long ascenders and
descenders. This extra room is used to better accommodate accents and
punctuation, making Eureka an excellent choice for languages with many
accented characters such as French and Spanish and the languages of
Central and Eastern Europe.
In 1997, Eureka won a prize at the National Design Award competition
organised by the Slovak Design Centre.

peter bil'ak
Peter Bilak was born in Czechoslovakia and now works in The
Netherlands, in the field of graphic and type design. In 1999 he started
his type foundry Typotheque. In 2000, he co-founded DOT DOT DOT
magazine. He teaches typography part-time at the postgraduate course
Type & Media at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. In 2004,
together with a dancer Lukas Timulak, he directed a modern dance piece
inspired by typography.
