• Turkey, with a population of more than 76 million as of end-2013, is the third most populated country in
Europe after Russia and Germany.
• 33% of Turkey’s population is aged below 20 and the median age is 30.
• IMF estimates that Turkey’s population will increase to approximately 79 million by 2016, approaching
Germany while Russia will experience population declines.
• Recent PWC report projects Turkey’s population to reach 90 million in 2041 and more than half of the
population to be under age 40.

• Istanbul (253 sq m) and Ankara (272 sq m) are the most dense markets.
• There are still some provinces in Turkey without any shopping centres.

Major Infrastructure Projects in Istanbul
The Third Bridge, located towards the north of
the FSM Bridge, will be connected to the
Northern Marmara Motorway project
connecting Adapazarı to Tekirdağ. The
motorway project is utmost importance for

Marmaray project is the most crucial infrastructure project in Istanbul, which was completed in Q4
2013. The project connects the European side to the Asian side via a railway tunnel under the
Bosphorus.

This will be complemented by Avrasya project, which is expected to be completed in 2014,
connecting the two sides of the city with a motorway tunnel under the Bosphorus
