WELCOME
The Turkish Orienteering Federation welcomes you
to the magical terrains of “fairy chimneys” unique
to this region in central Anatolia. Cappadocia is
easily reached by direct flights from Istanbul and
there are plenty of coach services as well.
Apart from 4 days of fulfilling orienteering in this “Stone
forest”, a balon tour of this mystical region is a must.
Don’t miss a tour of the unique Göreme open air
museum with its churches from the first days of
Christianity.
And perhaps a night in one of the many “cave hotels”
unique to this region…
In brief, take this opportunity to combine orienteering,
your favorite sport, with seeing this unique place of
cultural heritage and natural beauty.

classes according to IOF rules if there are fewer
participants than 5 in a class.

GETTING THERE
By plane
The fastest and most comfortable way of reaching Cappadocia is by plane. There are two main airports that you
can use to reach Cappadocia. One of them is Kayseri Erkilet Airport (ASR) located in Kayseri with nearly one hour
drive to the center of Cappadocia region. The second one is to Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV).
Turkish Airlines (THY or Anadolujet) and Pegasus Airlines operate frequent direct flights from Istanbul Atatürk
Airport (IST) and İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) to Kayseri and to Nevşehir. It is easy to arrange transfer
from these airports to any region in Cappadocia, or to rent a car.
On local flights run by Turkish Airlines transportation of bikes up to 22 kilos is free of charge.
By bus
Most of the bus companies have coach services to Nevşehir and Göreme. By bus it takes you 12 hours from
İstanbul and 5 hours from Ankara.
TERRAIN & MAPS
The terrain is mostly open land with intricate details amongst the fairy chimneys. Samples of foot-o maps by
Milan BILY, Zdenek SOKOLAR, Jan DERBAL (CZE), Mehmet KÜÇÜKÇOLAK (TUR) are given below. The maps and will
be revised and converted into ISMTBOM 2010 by Osman Filiz (TUR).

Day 3 – Middle Distance (WRE), Göreme
Day 4 – Sprint (WRE), Göreme Town Center
ENTRIES AND PAYMENT
On-line entries for the two WRE events are now open at eventor.orienteering.org . Please notice that entries for
the WRE events MUST be made via IOF Eventor.
For other days and classes other than the Elite, registrations may be made via www.orienteering.org.tr. The
competition the entry fee is 15 € per day, 50 € for all 4 days. The last day for on-line entries is 20 March, 2016

Shuttle buses will be available to competition areas from various accommodation centers at a charge. Further
details will be available in further Bulletins. Some of the accommodation sites are within biking distance to
competition areas with a scenic route on the way.
