How does contemporary art work? What works? What kind of a “job”
is art? Can we consider the new worker as an artist and the artist as
a worker? Has the incitement to creativity become an instrument
of exploitation in the contemporary organization of production in
general? What are the potential roles that remain for creativity for
the development of human agency and emancipation?
iDANS 05 brings together once more in Istanbul some of the
most challenging artists from all over the world to address these
questions.
EĞİTİM VE KAPASİTE GELİŞTİRME PROGRAMLARI
TRAINING AND CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS:
Europe In Motion
iDANS, 30 Eylül – 10 Ekim tarihleri arasında, yetişmekte olan
koreograflar için düzenlenen ve Avrupa Birliği Kültür Programı
tarafından desteklenen gezici gelişim programı “Europe In Motion”a
ev sahipliği yapıyor. Danışmanlarla gerçekleşecek yoğun diyalog ve
tartışma oturumlarının yanı sıra, uluslararası katılımcılar iDANS 05’in
kaygıları ve sorularıyla ilgili “ilk önerme”lerini ve yapım aşamasındaki
işlerini geliştirme şansına sahip olacaklar. Bunları 9 Ekim Pazar günü

iDANS hosts “Europe in Motion”, the travelling development program
supported by the Culture Program of the European Commission. Next
to intensive dialogue and discussion sessions between mentors and
peers, upcoming choreographers will have the chance to develop “first
propositions” and work-in-progresses relevant to the questions and
concerns iDANS 05 raises, to be presented on October 9th in a marathon
program between 14:30-19:30.

Kritik Çaba
Çağdaş dans ve performans sanatları yazarlığında uzmanlaşmakta
olanlara yönelik Kritik Çaba programı, dans alanındaki eleştirel
pratiklerin sorun, sorumluluk ve sorgularıyla yüzleşerek nitelikli olduğu
kadar erişilebilir eleştirel bir yazın kültürünün gelişimine katkıda
bulunmayı hedefliyor.
23 Eylül – 23 Ekim arasında yapılacak bir dizi oturum, seminer ve
tartışmadan oluşan Kritik Çaba aynı zamanda iDANS’ın misafir
yazarlık programıdır. Katılımcılar festival boyunca tüm etkinlik ve
performansları takip edecek ve bunlarla ilgili değerlendirmelerini,
eleştirilerini, söyleşi, makale ve denemelerini festival blogu
idansblog.org üzerinden yayımlayacaklardır.
As an education and development program for those specializing in
contemporary dance and performing arts journalism, Critical Endeavor
aims to contribute to the development of a literary culture which
confronts the challenges, responsibilities and inquiries of critical
practices in the dance field.
Critical Endeavor will consist of a series of seminars, panels and
discussions and will take place between September 23rd – October
23rd. It is at the same time the resident writer program of iDANS. The
participants will follow all events and performances throughout the
festival and publish their reviews, critiques, interviews, articles and
essays to the festival blog idansblog.org

Two excellent dancers prove that
they are also meticulous workers
as choreographers. The duo has
developed a specific movement
language which enables bodies
to communicate without the use
of symbolism, and yet generates
theatricality. During these two

Öncü koreograf Anna Teresa De
Keersmaeker'in dünya dans sahnesine
ilk çıkış yaptığı 1982 tarihli eser
Fase, Amerikalı minimalist besteci
Steve Reich'ın dört bölümden oluşan
kompozisyonu üzerine temelleniyor. Dans
tarihinin yapı taşlarından biri olarak kabul
edilen bu eseri, De Keersmaeker’in şahsen
icra edecek olması ayrıca heyecan verici!
The pioneer choreographer Anna Teresa
De Keersmaeker had her unique stance on
the world dance scene with her 1982 piece
Fase. This work is set on the American
minimalist composer Steve Reich’s
composition consisting of four phases.
Considered as one of the most significant
works of dance history to date, Fase had
heralded De Keersmaeker’s particular
mathematical, precise and hypnotic
style. It will be a particularly fascinating
experience to see De Keersmaeker dancing
on stage!

Inhabitant was the last work where
South African choreographer and
dancer Sello Pesa and conceptual
artist and light designer Vaughn Sadie
have been exploring how space is
occupied and contested in the inner
city space in the city of Johannesburg;
the performative nature of light in the
formation of space has always been
one major focus of interest in these
works. iDANS commissioned them
to develop an Istanbul version of this
highly interesting work. German artist
Mirko Winkel will accompany them in
the research phase in Istanbul.
1997 yılından bu yana birlikte çalışan
ve Türkiye çağdaş dansını bütün
dünyada temsil eden Mustafa Kaplan
ve Filiz Sızanlı, Eskiyeni’de kendi
tarihçelerini yorumluyor ve mevcut
repertuarlarından yeni bir eser
yaratıyorlar.
Mustafa Kaplan and Filiz Sızanlı,
close collaborators since 1997, revisit,
re-enact and re-interpret the history
of their work. Their repertory and
accumulated experiences of working
together provide the reference point of
this new work.

teatral bir belgesel sahnelemek ister:
Véronique Doisneau. Emeklilik yaşına
yaklaşan dansçı, sahnede tek başına,
anılarla ve öznel bir yaklaşımla,
kurumun içerisinde balerin olarak
geçirdiği kariyerini ele alır. Bu film,
gösterinin Palais Garnier sahnesinde
gerçekleşen son performansında
çekilmiştir.
Invited to make a piece for the ballet of
the Paris Opera by its director Brigitte
Lefèvre, Jérôme Bel wanted to stage
a kind of theatrical documentary on
the work of one of the dancers of the
ballet: Véronique Doisneau. The dancer,
closed to the retirement age, alone on
stage, retrospectively and subjectively
considers her own career as ballerina
inside this institution. This film was
shot during the last performance of the
piece on the stage of the Palais Garnier.

With his book Spangberianism,
Mårten Spångberg, a Swedish
curator, critic, and educator, poses
strong questions about the current
stale situation of dance criticism
in Europe and beyond and exposes
what we take for granted and what
assumptions we hide behind in the
artistic field. He also challenges
the mechanisms of producing
and distributing, monopolizing
and commercializing information
concerning art in general and
contemporary dance in particular.

choreography, Jérôme Bel’s The
Show Must Go On, premiered in
2001, will be re-interpreted by alllocal stage crew as the closing act
of 5th iDANS Festival. The work
is among the most unmissable
performances in iDANS Festival
with its dances and dancers as
well as its conceptual proposals.
