„Yollarda - European Literature Goes to
Turkey/ Turkish Literature Goes to Europe“
Das Goethe-Institut Istanbul organisiert von Mai 2009
bis Juni 2010 in 24 türkischen Städten und acht Städten
Europas eines der weltweit größten Literaturprojekte
des Goethe-Instituts der letzten Jahre.
„Yollarda - European Literature Goes to Turkey/ Turkish
Literature Goes to Europe“ wird im Rahmen des „Cultural
Bridges”-Programms der EU gefördert und führte bislang
48 namhafte Schriftsteller sowie zahlreiche Musiker,
Fotografen, Filmemacher und Künstler aus acht Ländern
Europas (Belgien, Deutschland, Schweiz, Italien,
Österreich, Ungarn, Rumänien und Bulgarien) in die
Türkei. In jeder türkischen Stadt fanden eine Woche
lang Lesungen, Diskussionen, Konzerte und
Ausstellungen statt, die dem Publikum Einblicke in die
zeitgenössische europäische Kultur vermittelt haben.
Die Türkei-Tournee endete im April 2010 mit einer Gala
in Istanbul im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zur
Kulturhauptstadt Europas 2010.
Der zweite Teil der Reise führt nun 16 Autoren und
verschiedene Musiker aus der Türkei nach Sofia,
Bukarest, Wien, Venedig, Zürich und in die beiden
anderen europäischen Kulturhauptstädte 2010, Pécs
und Essen. Den abschließenden Höhepunkt von
„Yollarda” bildet eine Galaveranstaltung mit allen
teilnehmenden Autoren in Brüssel.
Begleitet wird die Tournee von einem Bücherbus, der
neben den Werken der Autoren auch Internetstationen
und Informationen über die teilnehmenden Länder
bereitstellt. Videocamps, Universitäts- und
Schullesungen und ein interaktiver Web-Blog richten
sich insbesondere an Jugendliche.
Partner des Projektes sind die Auslandsvertretungen
und Kulturinstitute Belgiens, Deutschlands, der Schweiz,
Italiens, Österreichs, Ungarns, Rumäniens und Bulgariens
in der Türkei. Die türkischen Partner sind Anadolu Kültür,
Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), Istanbul
2010 - European Capital of Culture Agency, die Bilgi
Universität Istanbul und die Absolventenstiftung des
Österreichischen St. Georgs-Kollegs (ALV).
Das Projekt wird darüber hinaus von der S. Fischer
Stiftung, der Kulturstiftung der deutsch-türkischen
Wirtschaft sowie von Contretype - Zentrum für
Zeitgenössische Fotografie Brüssel und dem Ungarischen
Haus der Fotografie Budapest unterstützt. Ermöglicht
wurde das Projekt außerdem durch die großzügige
Unterstützung von Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş.

In one of the largest literature projects ever developed
by the German cultural institute, the Goethe-Institut
Istanbul is very proud to be organizing a high-profile arts
tour throughout Turkey and Europe from May 2009
through June 2010.
İstanbul Goethe Enstitüsü Avrupa Birliği “Cultural Bridges”
programının finansal desteği ile, Mayıs 2009 -Haziran
2010 tarihleri arasında, geniş kapsamlı bir kültür projesi
gerçekleştiriyor. Goethe Enstitüsü'nün son yıllarda organize
ettiği en büyük uluslararası edebiyat projelerinden biri
olan “Yollarda”, Türkiye'den başlayarak Brüksel'de son
bulacak.
Funded by the European Union's “Cultural Bridges”
program, the tour has so far brought 48 noted authors
and countless musicians, photographers, filmmakers and
artists from eight European countries (Belgium, Germany,
Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria)
to 24 cities throughout Turkey. Each Turkish city hosted
a week-long “EU Festival”, with numerous readings,
discussions, concerts and exhibitions giving local audiences
the chance to engage first-hand with contemporary
European art forms and ideas. The Turkish leg of the tour
culminated in a special gala in Istanbul in April 2010, to
mark the city's celebrations as European Capital of Culture
2010.
Continuing in the EU, the tour will now showcase readings
by 16 Turkish authors and concerts by various Turkish
musicians in Sofia, Bucharest, Vienna, Venice, Zurich, and
the two other Capitals of Culture 2010, Pécs and Essen.
The crowning event will unite all participating European
and Turkish authors at a festive gala in Brussels.
The project aims to appeal especially to young people by
setting the readings at universities and schools, organizing
video workshops and offering an interactive blog.
Accompanying the tour is a bookmobile containing the
showcased literature, internet terminals and information
about the participating countries.
Activity partners include the consulates, embassies and
cultural institutes of Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy,
Austria, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria in Turkey, as well
as the Anadolu Kültür Foundation, Istanbul Foundation
for Culture and Arts (IKSV), Istanbul 2010 - European
Capital of Culture Agency, Istanbul Bilgi University, and
the Austrian High School Alumni Foundation (ALV).
Additional partners include the S. Fischer Foundation,
the Cultural Foundation of German and Turkish
Businesspeople, Contretype - Contemporary Photographic
Art Center in Brussels, and the Hungarian House of
Photography in Budapest. This project has been made
possible with the generous support of Mercedes-Benz
Türk A.Ş.
Projenin Türkiye bölümünde, 8 Avrupa ülkesinden (Belçika,
Almanya, İsviçre, İtalya, Avusturya, Macaristan, Romanya
ve Bulgaristan) 48 tanınmış yazarı ve birçok müzik,
fotoğraf ve film sanatçısını 24 kente taşıyan bir turne yer
aldı. Proje kapsamında yer alan kentlerde, okuma ve
söyleşilerin, konserlerin ve sergilerin yer aldığı Avrupa'da
güncel sanat alanındaki gelişmeler ile doğrudan tanışma
olanağı sunan “Avrupa Kültür Haftaları” düzenlendi.
Türkiye turu, İstanbul'da 2010 Avrupa Kültür Başkenti
etkinlikleri kapsamında Nisan 2010'da düzenlenen özel
bir gala ile son buldu.
Projenin ikinci bölümü 8 Avrupa ülkesinde devam ediyor.
Bu kez Türkiye'den 16 yazar ve birçok müzisyen Sofya,
Bükreş, Viyana, Venedik, Zürih ve diğer iki 2010 Avrupa
Kültür Başkenti olan Pécs ve Essen'e gidiyor. Brüksel'de
gerçekleştirilecek ve projede yer alan tüm yazarların
katılacağı gala ise, etkinliklerin doruk noktasını
oluşturacak.
Sanatçılara, projeye katılan yazarların kitaplarının incelenip
okunabileceği, internet bağlantılı bilgisayarlar ve katılan
ülkeler hakkında bilgilerle donatılmış bir 'gezici kütüphane'
eşlik ediyor. Üniversite ve liselerde gerçekleştirilen okuma
toplantıları, video atölyeleri ve internet blogları ile proje
öncelikle gençlere ulaşmayı hedefliyor.
Proje ortakları arasında Belçika, Almanya, İsviçre, İtalya,
Avusturya, Macaristan, Romanya ve Bulgaristan'nın
Türkiye'deki dış temsilciliklerinin ve kültür merkezlerinin
yanı sıra, Anadolu Kültür, İstanbul Kültür ve Sanat Vakfı
(İKSV), İstanbul 2010 Avrupa Kültür Başkenti Ajansı, Bilgi
Üniversitesi ve Avusturya Liseliler Vakfı (ALV) yer alıyor.
Projeye katkıda bulunan diğer ortak kuruluşlar ise S.
Fischer Vakfı, Türk-Alman İşadamları Kültür Vakfı, Brüksel
Contretype Çağdaş Fotoğraf Merkezi ve Budapeşte'deki
Macaristan Fotoğrafevi. Bu proje ayrıca Mercedes Türk
A.Ş.'nin önemli katkılarıyla hayata geçirilmektedir.

Biografie
Die Schriftstellerin Ayfer Tunc wurde 1964 in der
nordwesttürkischen Stadt Adapazari geboren.
Bereits während ihres Studiums der
Politikwissenschaften an der Universität Istanbul
verfasste sie Artikel für verschiedene Literaturund Kulturzeitschriften. Unter dem Titel „Sakli“
erschien 1989 ihr erster Sammelband mit
Kurzgeschichten, gefolgt von ihrem Romandebüt
„Kapak Kizi“ im Jahre 1992. Die Autorin schreibt
neben Romanen und Kurzgeschichten auch
Reportagen, Radiohörspiele und Drehbücher für
Fernsehserien. Ihre Werke wurden bereits in
mehrere Sprachen übersetzt und mit dem Yunus
Nadi Preis für Kurzgeschichten (1989) sowie dem
Balkanika Preis für Literatur (2003)
ausgezeichnet. Ayfer Tunc, die 2008 am türkischdeutschen Stadtschreiberprojekt „Yakin Bakis“
in Salzburg teilnahm, lebt heute in Istanbul.
Biography
The writer Ayfer Tunc was born in the city of
Adapazari in northwest Turkey in 1964. While still
a student of political science at Istanbul University,
she wrote articles for various literary and cultural
magazines. Her first collection of short stories,
titled “Sakli”, was published in 1989. It was
followed by her debut novel, “Kapak Kizi”, in
1992. In addition to novels and short stories, Tunc

also writes reports, radio plays and scripts for TV
series. Her works have been translated into several
languages and honored with the Yunus Nadi Short
Story Prize (1989) and the Balkanika Award for
Literature (2003). Ayfer Tunc, who participated in
the Turkish-German literary exchange project
“Yakin Bakis” in Salzburg in 2008, lives today in
Istanbul.

Ayfer Tunç 1964 yılında Adapazarı'nda doğdu.
İstanbul Üniversitesi'nde Siyasal Bilgiler eğitimi aldı.
Üniversite yıllarında çeşitli edebiyat ve kültür
dergilerinde yazılar yazmaya başladı. 1989 yılında
“Saklı” isimli ilk öykü kitabını yayımladı, bunu 1992
yılında ilk romanı “Kapak Kızı” takip etti. Roman ve
öykü yazarlığının yanı sıra editörlük ve dizi senaristliği
de yapıyor. Bugüne kadar çeşitli dillere çevrilen
eserleri Yunus Nadi Öykü Ödülü (1989) ve Balkanika
Edebiyat Ödülü'ne (2003) layık görüldü. 2008 yılında
“Yakın Bakış” başlıklı Türk-Alman kent yazarları
projesine katılarak Salzburg'a giden Ayfer Tunç, halen
İstanbul'da yaşıyor.

Der Schriftsteller, Journalist und Übersetzer
Murat Uyurkulak wurde 1972 in der westtürkischen Stadt Aydin geboren. Zunächst
studierte er in Izmir Jura und später Kunstgeschichte, brach sein Studium jedoch ab und
zog nach Istanbul. Dort war er unter anderem
als Kellner, Übersetzer sowie Verleger tätig und
schrieb für Tageszeitungen wie „Bir Gün“ und
„Radikal“. 2002 veröffentlichte er sein
Romandebüt „Tol“ (Deutsch: „Zorn“, 2008), das
bereits in mehrere Sprachen übersetzt und als
Theaterstück adaptiert wurde. Vier Jahre später
folgte sein zweiter Roman mit dem Titel „Har“.
Murat Uyurkulak lebt und arbeitet heute in
Istanbul.
Biography
The writer, journalist and translator Murat
Uyurkulak was born in the city of Aydin in western
Turkey in 1972. He initially studied law and then
art history in Izmir, but eventually broke off his
studies and moved to Istanbul. There he worked
as a waiter, translator, and publisher, among other
jobs, and wrote articles for daily newspapers such
as “Bir Gün” and “Radikal”. In 2002 he published
his debut novel, “Tol”, which has since then been
translated into several languages and adapted as
a stage play. Four years later he published his
second novel, “Har”. Today Murat Uyurkulak lives
and works in Istanbul.

Kulturhauptstädte Europas 2010, Essen/Ruhr
und Istanbul, präsentiert das Goethe-Institut
das Gala-Konzert „Sounds of Love“, aufgeführt
vom Mercan Dede Ensemble mit Gastauftritten
dreier außergewöhnlicher Künstler. Für „Sounds
of Love“ treffen Vertreter aus Musik, Literatur
und Tanz mit Mercan Dedes Ensemble zusammen
- dabei entsteht eine einzigartige Mischung
verschiedener Ansätze, Traditionen und
Stilrichtungen. So liest die erfolgreiche
Schriftstellerin Elif Shafak aus ihrem Roman
„Love“, während die junge Musikerin Karsu
Dönmez und der Tänzer Kadir „Amigo“ Memis
diesem magischen Abend ihre eigene Handschrift

To celebrate two of the European Capitals of
Culture 2010, Essen/Ruhr and Istanbul, the
Goethe-Institut is pleased to present a unique gala
concert, performed by the Mercan Dede Ensemble
and featuring three very special guests. For
“Sounds of Love”, Mercan Dede brings his eclectic
ensemble together with three artists from the
fields of literature, music and dance, creating a
blend of different disciplines, traditions and artistic
styles. The best-selling author Elif Shafak will read
excerpts from her recent novel, “Love”, while the
young musician Karsu Dönmez and the dancer
Kadir “Amigo” Memis will add their unique touches
to this magical event.
Essen/Ruhr ve İstanbul'un 2010 Avrupa Kültür
Başkenti kutlamaları çerçevesinde Goethe-Enstitüsü,
“Sounds of Love” başlığı altında Mercan Dede
Topluluğu tarafından verilecek sıradışı bir gala konseri
düzenliyor. Konsere üç çok özel misafir sanatçı da
katılıyor ve müzik, edebiyat ve dans alanlarından
gelen bu sanatçıların katılımıyla “Sounds of Love”
çeşitli gelenek ve tarzlardan oluşan eşsiz bir karışıma
dönüşecek. Başarılı yazar Elif Şafak “Aşk” adlı
romanından okurken, genç müzisyen Karsu Dönmez

Der in Montreal lebende türkische Musiker,
Produzent und DJ Mercan Dede vereint wie kein
anderer die spirituelle Tradition der Sufi-Musik mit
zeitgenössischem elektronischem Sound.
Seine DJ-Karriere begann 1988 in Kanada, wo er
1996 sein Debütalbum „Sufi Dreams“
veröffentlichte. Mit seinem Ensemble trat er
weltweit auf über 200 Festivals, u.a. dem Montreal
Jazz Festival, dem Montreux Jazz Festival und auf
der WOMEX in Deutschland auf. Er arbeitete mit
verschiedenen Musikern wie Transglobal
Underground, Trilok Gurtu, Dhafer Youssef, Azam
Ali und Coldcut zusammen und komponierte Musik
für Pina Bauschs Stück „Nefes“. Als Anhänger der
Sufi-Spiritualität veröffentlichte er zum 800.
Geburtstag des Mystikers Rumi im Jahr 2007 das
Album „800“, welches im darauf folgenden Jahr von
WOMEX zum besten World Music Album gewählt
wurde. Mercan Dede ist außerdem als Maler und
Multimedia-Künstler tätig.
Biography
Mercan Dede is a Turkish-born, Montreal-based
musician, producer and DJ who fuses the Eastern
spiritual tradition of Sufi music with contemporary
electronic sounds. After moving to Canada in 1988, he
began to work as a DJ and released his debut album
“Sufi Dreams” in 1996. Together with his ensemble, he
has performed at over 200 festivals, including the
Montreal Jazz Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival,
and WOMEX in Germany. He has collaborated with
musicians such as Transglobal Underground, Trilok
Gurtu, Dhafer Youssef, Azam Ali and Coldcut, and
composed music for Pina Bausch's piece “Nefes”. As
an adherent of Sufi spirituality, he released the album
“800” to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the mystic
Rumi's birth in 2007. A year later, the album was named
Best World Music Album by WOMEX. Mercan Dede
also works as a painter and multi-media artist.

Biografie
Die Schriftstellerin Elif Shafak wurde 1971 in
Straßburg geboren und hat in Spanien, Jordanien,
Deutschland, der Türkei und den USA gelebt.
Nach ihrem Studium der Politikwissenschaften
an der Middle East Technical University in Ankara
unterrichtete sie an verschiedenen türkischen
und amerikanischen Hochschulen. Ihr erster
Erzählband mit dem Titel „Kem Gözlere Anadolu”
erschien 1994; ihr Romandebüt „Pinhan”, für den
sie den Mevlana Preis erhielt, folgte 1997. Shafak,
die mit „The Saint of Incipient Insanities“ 2004
(Deutsch: „Die Heilige des nahenden Irrsinns”,
2005) ihren ersten englischsprachigen Roman

Biography
The writer Elif Shafak was born in Strasbourg in
1971 and has lived in Spain, Jordan, Germany,
Turkey and the USA. After studying political science
at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, she
taught at a number of universities in Turkey and
the USA. Her first book of short stories, titled “Kem
Gözlere Anadolu”, was published in 1994. Her debut
novel, “Pinhan”, for which she received the Mevlana
Award, followed in 1997. Shafak published her first
novel in English, “The Saint of Incipient Insanities”,
in 2004. She is regarded as one of the most
successful Turkish authors, both in her own country
and at the international level. Elif Shafak lives
alternately in Istanbul and the USA, and currently
writes for diverse Turkish and foreign newspapers
and magazines.
Özgeçmiş
1971 yılında Strasbourg'da doğan Elif Şafak, hayatının
çeşitli dönemlerinde İspanya, Ürdün, Almanya, Türkiye
ve ABD'de yaşadı. ODTÜ Uluslararası İlişkiler
Bölümü'nü bitirdikten sonra Amerika ve Türkiye'de
farklı üniversitelerde ders verdi. İlk öykü kitabı “Kem
Gözlere Anadolu” 1994 yılında yayımlandı. Bunu
1997'de Mevlana Büyük Ödülü'ne (1998) layık görülen

arasında yer alıyor. Çeşitli Türk ve yabancı yayın
organları için yazılar yazmaya devam eden Elif Şafak,
halen İstanbul ile ABD arasında gidip geliyor.

Karsu Dönmez ist eine 19-jährige niederländische
Pianistin, Komponistin und Sängerin mit
türkischen Wurzeln. Unter ihren weltweiten
Auftritten zählen die Konzerte im
Concertgebouw Amsterdam sowie in der Carnegie
Hall in New York zu den wichtigsten. Derzeit
arbeitet sie an ihrem Debütalbum, das Elemente
des Jazz, Blues, Funk und folkloristische Klänge
miteinander vereint.
Der Berliner Tänzer Kadir „Amigo“ Memis ist
Gründungsmitglied der B-Boy Crew Flying Steps,
welche zweimal die Weltmeisterschaft des
Breakdance, den „Battle of the Year“, gewonnen
hat sowie bei dem „Red Bull Beat Battle“ in
London in den Jahren 2005 und 2007 den ersten
Platz belegte. Außerdem trat er in der Semper
Oper, der Deutschen Oper, im HAU Berlin und
im Tanzhaus NRW als Tänzer auf.
Karsu Dönmez is a nineteen-year-old Dutch

her debut album, a mixture of jazz, blues, funk
and ethnic influences.
