VIC $20,000 August State Champs!
On the 17th of August at Dingley International the 888Poker League, Australian Poker League and
Pub Poker held the monthly $20,000 Minimum State Champs with $10,000 GUARANTEED to the
winner! At 9am we opened the doors and the first of our 404 players was registered.
Once registration was over and the keen participants were all seated Ernie ran over all of the
tournament rules, information about all our upcoming events and told players that the Bad Beat Box
had jackpotted and that there was $2000 inside! Once the nitty gritty was all over Ernie said the
words the room had been eagerly awaiting to hear and the tournament was on the way.
At first break we had roughly 300 players left which we figured was due to everyone wanting to play
in the rebuy tournament in which we were guaranteeing a $2000 trip to Sydney with flights,
accommodation a ticket into The Star Showdown and spending money all included. The eventual
winner of this was Michael Geremia. It was also about this time that we had the elimination of Paul
Ridsdale who casually strolled over to the bad beat box put in what he thought the code was and
CHA CHING the safe opened and he walked away with the $2000 that was locked inside.
Once the players had grabbed something to eat and came back after lunch things started heating up
once the prize pool was announced at $21,350 with top 32 getting paid out. Everyone in the room
was licking their lips imagining what they would do when they won ten grand but for many it was
merely a dream as we lost roughly 220 players by the time it was dinner.
After dinner the 70 or so remaining players came back looking more focused than ever. It was after
an hour of intense play that we were down to 33 players. Once the bubble had been burst the next
16 eliminations came quick and fast. It was almost as if they were holding on to their short stack
waiting for someone to go out. Once the next 5 went out it was a player from the Wonthaggi Golf
Club who would bubble the final table by the name of Glen Swettenham. With Glenn’s eliminations
we were down to our final table of 10 which consisted of the following playersMick Morton 3.2mill From Golden Square Bendigo
Wiyada 2.4Mill From Dingley International
Roy Browne 1.8mill From Sale Greyhounds

Jason (Newbie) Giuliano 860K From Doyles Bridge Hotel
Than Huynh 695K From Dingley International
Nick Ragkeb 635K From Dingley international

After the realisation that one of these players was going to win $10,000 it was down to the serious
business as the 1st hand of final table was dealt also claiming our first victim in Jason Giuliano who
went home $500 richer and with a Mini Main Event seat for being the longest lasting new player!
After that over the next 2 hours the remaining 9 players battled it out with our eventual winner and
runner up choosing not to make a deal meaning the winner Nick Ragkeb from Dingley walked away
$10K richer!
