LITTLE MUHAMMED (P.B.U.H)
IS WITH HIS WET NURSE
Living conditions in Mecca are very hard because,
there is not enough rain, and also droughts are very
common in the city.
Trying to bring babies up in such weather conditions
is very difficult. Babies can easily become ill, because
of heavy disease.
Traditionally, wet nurses come from high plateaus
outside Mecca to nurse babies for about three years.
They take care of them for about 3 years. Sometimes
more than three years.
The year Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is born, some wet
nurses decide to set off on the two day journey to
Mecca together.

Amina hears that, the wet nurses are in Mecca
and wants to choose one of them for little Muhammad
(P.B.U.H), but how?
Lack of money and not being able to trust somebody
else with the last prophet for all humanity, make the
decision even more difficult.
By the way, The wet nurses find out that Muhammed
(P.B.U.H) is an orphan and so none of them wants to take
him (P.B.U.H).
Soon, all the newborns from the rich families set on
their way back out of Mecca with their new wet nurses.
Just as the groups are leaving Mecca, Halimah and
her husband Harith arrive.
Halimah is a poor wet nurse who arrives late. Her
frail donkey and her husband’s weak camel cannot
walk fast enough to catch up with the group.
They are not very happy to see the other group returning
home and think that there are no babies left.
While roaming the streets of Mecca, husband Harith
and Halimah realise an old man acting strange walking
up and down the street.
They then, realise it is Abdul-Muttalib, the leader
of the Quraysh tribe. Abdul-Muttalib approaches
Halimah;
“Who are you?” he asks.
“I am a woman from the Bakr tribe” answers
Halimah.
“What is your name?” asks Abdul-Muttalib.

“My name is Halimah” she says.
“Your villagers are good people. Can you be my
grandson’s wet nurse? Look after him and teach
him morals for he will be the last prophet for all of
humanity.” says Abdul-Muttalib.
“All right, but first I need to ask my husband,” replies
Halimah in suspicion.
Halimah figures out that, Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is
an orphan boy.
However, her husband Harith already accepts to
take lovely Muhammad (P.B.U.H) under his wing.

When Halimah goes to see little Muhammad
(P.B.U.H), she sees that, he is the most adorable and
cutest baby she has ever seen.
Lovely Muhammad’s (P.B.U.H) presence is amazing
and Halimah is fascinated with him. She feels a
different kind of aura in his presence.
Due to the feeling Muhammad (P.B.U.H) gives her,
Halimah feels happy all the time.
Muhammad (P.B.U.H) has a beautiful face and is
always smiling; when he smiles, it is like the sun,
comes up. His skin is softer than velvet and he smells
like roses.
Halimah and Harith leaves in a hurry, as it takes
them at least three days to get back to their home town,
because of their weak donkey and frail camel.
Then a miracle happens. Her own breasts has over
flown with milk, the donkey and camel are nothing like
before.

They both are walking very fast, to Halimah’s and
Harith’s amazement.
They can’t understand what has happened to the
animals all of a sudden. Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is on the
back of the donkey and the donkey is extra fast. Can
it have be that it is carrying little Muhammad (P.B.U.H)
and that’s why it is walking so fast.
Furthermore, they catch up with the group that have
left before them and even past the group and get home
to their town Hudaybiyah before anyone else.

Almost immediately Halimah’s houses have an
abundance of food and water, and is filled with
happiness and blessings.
All the animals in their farm become healthy and
strong and their udders are over flown with milk too.
All this happens shortly after little Muhammad
(P.B.U.H) arrives. The whole town are generally
thriving; it has plenty of rain and animals reproduced
in high numbers.
Another thing that puzzles Halimah is the cloud. This
cloud follows lovely Muhammad (P.B.U.H) everywhere
and protects him with its shade. Thanks to little
Muhammad’s (P.B.U.H) arrival, all of the family are
happier than before.
At the age of two, lovely Muhammad (P.B.U.H) stops
breastfeeding and so Halimah decides reluctantly that,
it is time for him to return to his mother Amina. Even
though, she doesn’t want to give him back, she knows
that she does not have a choice.

While handing Muhammad (P.B.U.H) over to Amina,
Halimah pleads Amina for her to let Muhammad
(P.B.U.H) stay with her a little longer because there is
still high risk of disease in Mecca for children.
Only for this reason, Amina lets Halimah take lovely
Muhammad (P.B.U.H) back for two more years. Amina
doesn’t want him to go but has to make sure that the
last prophet of all humanity is in his best health.

The days pass quickly until Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is
four years old.
By the way, other brothers sometimes go to shepherd
the animals and lovely Muhammad (P.B.U.H) always
wants to go with them.
Halimah never gives him permission because she
has to protect him and is scared to let him go.
However on this occasions lovely Muhammad
(P.B.U.H) really insisted, and so Halimah lets him go.
Only on the grounds that, the other brothers have
to take special care of him and not let go of him. The
others are all become excited and give their promise.
The next day arrives, all the brothers including
Muhammad (P.B.U.H) set off to shepherd the sheep.
While the brothers are watching the sheep, they are
also talking and having fun together.
All of a sudden, two strangers come and take
Muhammad (P.B.U.H) up a nearby hill.

The brothers are shocked and can’t help him even if
they try. They look everywhere but can’t find him.
Eventually they go back and explain the situation
to Halimah and Harith. Halimah and Harith also
anxiously look for him but can’t find him anywhere.
All they can do now is to wait and see what will
happen. The whole family is upset and worried for
Muhammad (P.B.U.H).
After about an hour Muhammad (P.B.U.H) gets back
home by himself and explains what happens to him.

“Some angels came and split open my chest. They
removed a black clot from my heart and threw it away.
Then they washed my heart with water that had
heavenly light and placed it back into my body again.”
The family is all shocked at what they are hearing.
Halimah is scared that something will happen to
Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and the family make the decision
to take Muhammad (P.B.U.H) back to his mother and
grandfather.
Halimah understands that looking after Muhammad
(P.B.U.H) is a huge responsibility.
Amina is very excited about getting her little
Muhammad (P.B.U.H) back with her. She misses him
so much and can’t wait to have her lovely Muhammad
(P.B.U.H) in her arms.

Given that Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is protected by
Allah (God), he has grown up to be strong and healthy,
although he faces with very difficult circumstances
throughout his life.
Our prophet (P.B.U.H) never forgets his nursing
mother and always prays for her and for the rest of
her family.
Halimah says that in his childhood, “he (P.B.U.H)
walked when he was five months, ran at eight months
and could talk and be understood at 9 months old.’’
It is hoped that, she will be in the paradise with him
(P.B.U.H)
