Soner Çağaptay Washington Yakın Doğu Araştırmaları Enstitüsü’nde (Washington Enstitüsü) kıdemli uzman ve Türkiye Araştırmaları Programı’nın direktörü
olarak görev almaktadır.
Özellikle Türkiye-A.B.D. ilişkileri, Türkiye siyaseti, ve Türk milliyetçiliği hakkında birçok akademik dergi ve Financial Times Deutschland, Foreign Policy,
International Herald Tribune, Jane’s Defense Weekly, Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Today’s Zaman, HaberTürk,
Radikal, Referans, Newsweek Türkiye, Yeni Şafak, ve Zaman gibi yayınlarda makale yazmaktadır. Bunun yanısıra Hürriyet Daily News gazetesinde köşe
yazarlığı yapmakta. Ayrıca BBC, CNN, El Cezire, El-Hurra, Fox News, NPR, Voice of America, CNN Türk, CNBC-e ve NTV’de düzenli olarak analist
olarak programlara katılmakta.
Tarih eğitimi gören Dr. Çağaptay, Türk milliyetçiliği üzerine yaptığı doktorasını Yale Üniversitesi’nde 2003 yılında tamamladı. Dr. Çağaptay Yale ve
Princeton’da Ortadoğu, Akdeniz, ve Doğu Avrupa hakkında dersler verdi. Yale’de 2003’ün ilkbaharında verdiği Türk tarihi dersi üniversite tarafından bu konu
üzerinde son 30 yılda verilen ilk ders olma özelliği taşıyor. 2006’dan 2007’ye kadar Princeton Üniversitesi’nin Ortadoğu Çalışmaları bölümünde Ertegün
Kürsüsü Profesör’ü olarak görev aldı. Şu anda Dr. Çağaptay Georgetown Üniversitesi’nin Dış Politika Okulunda (School of Foreign Service) misafir profesör
olarak ders vermektedir.
Dr. Çağaptay birçok ünvan, burs, ve kürsü başkanlığına layık görülmüştür. Bunlar arasında Smith-Richardson, Mellon, Rice, ve Leylan bursları, ve
Princeton’da Ahmet Ertegün kürsüsü var. Ayrıca A.B.D. Dışişleri Bakanlığının Diplomasi Enstitüsü’nde (Foreign Service Institute) Türkiye Çalışmaları
Programı’nın kürsü başkanıdır.
