O
nce upon a time, a merchant lived with his three daughters in a
quiet little town. The merchant was a jolly old man and loved
his daughters very much.
One day, he needed to travel far away to buy some goods. Before he
left, he asked his daughters what kind of gifts he should bring back for
them.
“A pearl necklace”, said the eldest daughter.
“A golden chain”, said the second daughter.
The youngest daughter, Bella, said, “You are my gift, Daddy. I just
hope you come back soon”.
“Really, Sweetie... let me bring you back a gift”, said the father, very
pleased. “Well, then...”, thought Bella, “please bring me a rose”.
The merchant went on his trip. After he bought the things he needed,
he got the pearl necklace and golden chain that his eldest and second
daughter had asked for.
He was just about to buy a rose for Bella, but he hesitated. “Hmmm...
”, he thought, “roses die easily, so I’d better get one when I am closer to
home”. On his way home, the jolly old merchant saw a beautiful rose
garden. “Wow! I’ve never seen roses like these in any flower shop, or in
any other garden before”, he exclaimed. He got off his horse, walked into
the garden, and picked a rose.
