MAP - Nar Yayınları
Nar Publications was established in 2007. NAR, which is an answer
to a very widespread puzzle in Turkish, was chosen as the name of the
publishing company. As the pomegranate fruit yields hundreds of grains
when its crust is opened and as it is pleasing for its color and flavor, the
books published by Nar Child were aimed at giving such abundance, color
and pleasure.
It publishes books under the topic titles of fairy tale, story, novel,
theater, poetry, travel etc…
Nar Child employs renowned authors of the children’s literature,
many of whom received awards in Turkey, and the company was elected
as the “CHILDREN’S PUBLISHER IN 2008” by ESKADER. Until today, it
published more than 450 both domestic and foreign books.
We believe that Nar Child will exist as long as children exist.

SMILING AT THE
WORLD
(Tales from
Hodja Nasreddin)
SUMMARY ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
The World neither laughs nor makes laugh today. We lack Nasreddin Hodja
riding a donkey with a big quilted turban on his head correcting people’s
mistakes and the strangeness of the world through his cleverly created jokes
almost eight hundred years ago. However, his jokes, acute mind and sharp
tongue still make us smile and change our perception of events. Ahmet Efe
makes Nasreddin Hodja jokes and miniature one of our classical arts come
together. As Hodja’s voice and face are brought together Laughing at the
World, his jokes become more vivid in our minds.

Who am I in this endless world? Where did I come from and where am I going? I had no doubts about being
a wise man just like Nasreddin Hodja when I found the right answers to my questions. I need to draw some
miniature to a couple jokes of this great man’s whose voice can be heard with all its beauty now even though he
calls out from eight hundred years ago. It is going to be a challenging but cheery task. The miniatures that I will
draw should be different than the previous ones. One should take advantage of works of old masters but they
need to add new comments and points of views.

SUMMARY ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
We will learn how to share by observing nature and have fun with Nasreddin
Hodja who goes to space in this fairytale book. We will discover patience through
a drop of water and helping each other through a fly. If you are curious about how
a cat helps a lion or success of little ants, you may find the answers in this book.
Not only the subjects but also the narrations of the fairytales are good. The words
and sentences falling from our lips like the harmony of a fountain. The fact that
the author is also a poet contributes to the narration. A book with original images
that would attract children’s attention.

SUMMARY ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Dr. Hüseyin Emin Öztürk, one of the award-wining authors of children’s literature
channels his young audiences to a stirring adventure through his conversations
that are almost like fairytales and his narration derived from folk culture.
The villagers going highlands as usual when summer comes pitch their tents and
keep their life in a spectacular nature. However, a surprise waits for highland
folk that summer.
Derviş Dede fertilizing the highlands he visits, sharing his wisdom with adults and having a chat with youngsters
is a guest in Yeşilyurt highlands that summer.
This propitious guest means something else for children. He tells fairytales and stories to them every night. Little
ones of the tent gather around Derviş Dede. Scout children coming from the city for camping bring a different joy
and join Derviş Dede’s chain.
The first story is Red-legged Lamb and Deviş Dede tells it. Then, it is children’s turn. He will present a gift that he
has been keeping for years to the one who tells an experience better than the others.
I wonder who is going to tell the best story? Well, what might the gift be?

Veysel comes to grief his sister Hicran’s death on top of his longing to his father
working in Germany. He holds on to life again thanks to the efforts of his grandfather Sergeant Hamza and Yusuf, the country imam. The two partridge’s eggs
that Veysel and his friend Ahmet find during mountain trekking drag them to a pleasant adventure.
The two buds chasing after the partridge stolen from the Sergeant Hamza’s room go to town. Good news from

SUMMARY ABOUT THE PRODUCTION/INTRODUCTION OF THE
PRODUCTION
Have you met Garip, the hardworking boy? Although his name is Hami, people
keep calling him as Garip (Needy) as he has no friends or relatives, eats the food
and wears the old clothes the residents send to him…
Well, do you know which day “when the cows come home” is? Garip always
hears “You get your money when the cows come home or when it snows red or on the greek calends.” When he
carries the flour of the baker, organizes the boxes of the grocer or fixes the tap of the neighbor. Garip writes down
the date like that with hope and innocence on his notebook that he squeezes in his belt.
Zehra realizing the residents of town do not give Garip what he deserves consults to the mayor and they solve the
problem. They prepare a calendar and “when the cows come home” is set as a specific day. When that day comes,
Garip, Zehra and the police chief visit the names written on the notebook and ask for the money in return for the
work. They also look forward to seeing what is going to happen to them.
“When It Snows Red” is the story of innocence, honesty, diligence and poverty.

SUMMARY ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Hasan getting fed up with city life tells his father that he wants to spend the summer in the village as a report card gift. His grandfather has already missed him
much. He got bored of playing only with toys and not being able to go out whenever he wishes.
The bus arrives in the village after a short trip. Hasan’s uncle meets him. Even though he is flattered by curious
glances of relative kids, there are lots of things that he will learn from them.
Life here is different than the one in the city. Trees, birds, road and even the sky are different. He becomes friends
with animals he has never seen or come closer to before. Everything is miraculous in the village. But it is not over.
Hasan immediately gets used to village life. He attends the rain prayer, witnesses cross people make it up, listens
to the heroic story of his grandfather as a kid from the village teacher, has fun with other kids in the mosque while
learning new stuff.
The gift that his grandfather gave to him while bidding farewell is very meaningful.
“The Hill of Martyrs compares city culture and village life from a kid’s point of view with stirring and sincere
narration.

SUMMARY ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
The book is about impressions of 5 foreign students about Turkish people and
Istanbul, who came to Turkey by winning a contest. Each of these students
represents a different culture around the world. They go sightseeing in Istanbul
in company with special guides during one week of visit and are welcomed in
a Turkish family’s house. The work which talks about not only historical sites
and touristic places but also values such as charity stones, birdhouses, local
food, customs and traditions and cults has been garnished with adventures and
cryptic riddles that would attract children’s attention. The work has also been
enriched through a grand size map of the places where the incidents especially
take place. Copyright owner of the work is NAR PUBLISHING HOUSE.

SUMMARY ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
The Crazy School starts with fuss due to enrollment, excitement of first day
and the end of longing between teachers and students coming together again.
Little kids starting first grade, their mothers and toys waiting for them at
home. Curiosity, surprise and love…
Deputy Manager Mister Ahmet accepting students with their mischievousness
and larky behaviors and encouraging them to the true path with his smiling face…
Duran Çetin who is both a teacher and an author describes the adventures, fun, mischievousness, successes and
joy of students from the very first day to the last day of an academic year while he paints a realist picture in The
Crazy School. He also opens the doorway to an ideal by highlighting examples that are possible to happen. He
provides the novel with a stronger narration through sections of golden age, exemplary stories and apothegm
while he presents the school life and student behaviors in a very plain language.
Students reading The Crazy School will find a lot of common features between it and their own schools. Also,
they will have lots of new ideas to make their schools better.

The class was like in a journey in time tunnel. Nobody knew where it was. Maybe they were in a
school in a place out of nowhere years ago. Craziness was knee-deep. The class was no more like a
class anymore.
When students learned the teacher was off, they immediately built planes out of papers and flew
them. Papers were everywhere. Then, everything became crazy.
The rest is more eccentric: they built a hut by piling tables. They made places to sit on from desks in this hut.
They wrote “This is the Crazy School” on it with board marker. They were going to do all crazy things that day.

SUMMARY ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
The Brand is Me consisting ten stories is a reflection of society on children’s
mirror. This reflection has undoubtedly two faces. One is lives tumbled by
television culture, corruption due to the desire to be liked and wannabe,
the warmth of neighborhood culture which is lost, the wall of insecurity
increasing every day. The other is love despite everything, reliance on people
and learning from experiences.
İmran Aksoy is an author focusing on children. So, The Brand is Me consists
of stories whose protagonists are mostly children. Stories full of adventures
were analyzed under the light of versicles and Prophet Muhammad’s deeds. They touch everybody’s life and
make us think and laugh…
You will be familiar with little kids stealing fruits from neighbor’s garden, little monsters of a class, a family
whose television got stolen, a mother who doesn’t want to die before seeing her son living in the city.

phone they use or the place they hang out. You know brand is actually the person himself/herself; their successes,
character, the fact that they are liked by others and they do good stuff to deserve the heaven, so it is important to
be “brand character.”

“This is Tabduk Emre’s dervish lodge, isn’t it mommy? I am coming from far far away. My wish is
to revere at the gate. I am called Yunus…”
Ana Bacı suddenly looked behind as if an arrow was stuck in her chest as soon as she heard the
name of Yunus. Cavaliers were about to disappear like a five small dots inside a thin cloud of dust
at the end of the road. The sun rose half a spear’s length.
Yunus saw a girl going out, staring at him for a second, freezing there like a lifeless and rigid
statue nailed on the ground while walking towards the guest house following Ana Bacı. He felt the girl was still
standing frozen like a statue while he was getting in the guest house. He felt weird. He recited bismillah and
entered the room.
