3 – Talking about existence. There is - There are “VAR” and There is not - There are not “YOK”
When we need to say that something exists, we will start the sentece with the name of the thing
(using an indefinite article “bir” for singulars) and use the word “var” at the end of the sentence. The
word “var” is used for both singular and plural. The word “yok” has the same usage rules and it
creates a negative meaning that states something does not exist.

below.
Güzel bir kedi var – There is a nice cat
Küçük kediler var – There are little cats
İki küçük kedi var – There are two little cats *
Bir kedi yok – There is not a cat
İki kedi yok – There are not two cats
Kediler yok – There are not cats
Güzel bir kedi yok – There is not a nice cat
Küçük kediler yok – There are not little cats

*Since we say two cats adjective comes just before the noun. However when we say “bir” (indefinite
article) it has to be used before the noun.
