FOR 6th GRADERS
Dear parents,
We started this term very enthusiastically! So far in our English lessons, we are in the 7th unit of our
book. One of our previous units was about the environment. The students discussed the issues of
pollution and global warming and made suggestions on how we can help. The Trash Festival
coincided with this unit and the students made awareness posters about environmental problems.
For the Trash Festival the students volunteered to clean up the park near our school.
Other topics we have covered are traveling, different places, making comparisons, describing
buildings, landmarks, etc. We created our own countries and presented them in this light. These
projects were also enjoyable for the students.
Our topic now is Sports and Illnesses.

ACTIVITIES
“Ghost Stories” project:
Students wrote their own ghost stories and read them to their friends. Later, the students exchanged
these stories to draw a picture of the events.
Memories Festival:
This was one of the festivals created by the students at the beginning of the year when we were working on
the festivals unit. The students brought objects/pictures particular to their childhoods and talked about
them with their friends.
Puzzle Projects:
Students worked in pairs and made crossword puzzles about emotions, for their friends to solve.
“Environment” Project:
Students made posters to draw attention to environmental problems. They wrote about what is
causing them and what we can do to help.
Trash Festival – Park Clean-up:
This was another one of the festivals created by the students. Since the Trash Festival was at the
same time as our environment unit, the students volunteered to clean up the park!
“A New Country” Project:
Students worked in groups and created new countries. They wrote about the country’s landmarks,
physical characteristics, holiday destinations etc.
SKILLS:
The 6th graders finished reading Sherlock Holmes Stories. They loved guessing who did it and how.
We watched a very old black and white version of The Speckled Band. We did a fingerprinting
activity. The students learned the different types of fingerprints, fingerprinted themselves and
identified each of their prints.
The students are reading a book about the planet now, Caring for the Planet. This book connects to a
unit the students covered in their main English course. The students are now creating a trash mural.
They are cutting out pictures of the things we throw away from magazines in order to create the
mural.

İkinci döneme çok heyecanlı bir şekilde başladık! Son bültenimizden bu yana 5. ve 6. üniteleri bitirdik.
Şu an 7. üniteyi işliyoruz. Beşinci ünitemiz doğa ve çevreyi korumak ile ilgiliydi ve bitiminde öğrenciler
çevre kirliliğine dikkat çeken ve bunu önlememiz için fikirler sunan poster hazırladılar. Yine bu üniteye
denk gelen Çöp Festivalimiz vardı. Hatırlarsanız öğrencilerimiz senenin başında kendi festivallerini
yaratmışlardı; bu da onlardan bir tanesiydi. Bu festival için öğrencilerimiz okulumuzun yanındaki parkı
temizlemeye gönüllü oldular. Beşinci ünitemizin konusu seyahat etmek ve farklı yerleri tanıyıp
kıyaslamaktı. Bununla ilgili kitabımızdan bağımsız olarak öğrenciler kendi ülkelerini yarattılar ve
onlarla ilgili sunum yaptılar.

“Ghost Stories” projesi: Öğrenciler kendi korku hikayelerini yazdılar.
Hatıralar Festivali: Bu festivali öğrenciler kendileri buldular. Çocukluklarına ait eşyaları okula
getirip arkadaşlarına anlattılar.
Puzzle Projesi: Öğrenciler arkadaşlarının çözmesi için duygular ile ilgili yapboz geliştirdiler.
“Environment” Projesi: Öğrenciler doğayı korumak için posterler hazırladılar.
Çöp Festivali – Park Temizliği: Öğrenciler Çöp Festivalini kutlamak için parkı temizlediler.
“A New Country” Projesi: Öğrenciler yeni bir ülke yarattılar ve bunu arkadaşlarına sundular.
Beceri Dersi
Sherlock Holmes Stories isimli kitabımızı bitirdik. Öğrenciler suçları kimin nasıl işlediğini bulurken çok
eğlendiler. The Speckled Band hikâyesinin eski bir siyah –beyaz filmini seyrettik ve bununla ilgili
parmak izi etkinliği yaptık. Şu an Caring For The Planet isimli kitabımızı okuyoruz. Öğrencilerimiz
çöplerle ilgili bir kolaj çalışması yapıyorlar.
