GREEN FOSSIL LIMESTONE

marble market, but these may also
be interpreted as wave marks of the
sea environment.

GREEN FOSSIL limestone, having
been formed millions of years ago at
the lively reef and sea environment
are decorating the buildings of today;
contributing to the lives and values of
the residences with its unmatched
physical characteristics, style,
aesthetics, and living stories.
Piatra Design has two main groups
of color selection of this limestone,
which are called “Rustic Green”
and “Turquoise”. Based on this
selection, the surface finishing
applications are utilized as below:

(Rustic Green)
Trapped in the limestone that is
extracted by PIATRA DESIGN are
the fossils of primitive living creatures
named as “Nummulites”, “Alveolina”
and “Coral”. These fossils have
various dimensions ranging from as
small as a water droplet to the size of
a palm of the hand. The fossils can
be distinguished in detail especially
when the stone is polished after
being cut. Some other surface
finishing processes like flaming or
acid washing, causes some of the
fossils to protrude, as if they have
come out through a time machine.
The rich fossil content and the
formation geometry suggests that
the limestone precipitated at sea
and reef environment,

not at lake environment like most of
the other limestone samples. The
high pressures of the sea
environment are the reason why
this limestone has a relatively
higher strength and durability
compared to the other limestone.
Another characteristic of Green
Fossil that is acquired from the same
sea environment is the common
uniformity of the stone. Due to this
uniformity, the stone can be
processed in relatively larger
dimensions. The line up of the
texture and the structural orientation
presents some precipitation marks

In addition to the above applications,
there is a different product where the
cutting direction of the slabs is
perpendicular to the “veins”. When
cut like this (vein–cut), The veins are
visible, and the fossils are oriented in
a different way.

BRUSHING (ANTIQUATED)
* Three dimensional surface texture,
hence aesthetic and interesting
* As any possible weak spots are
removed, the surface hardness and
durability is homogenized.
* Can be used both indoors and outdoors.
Especially recommended for outdoor
cladding when a longer lasting polished
look is required.
BUSH HAMMERING
* Unslippery surface, even when wet and
under frost
* Color variations are invisible,
especially when dry.
* Does not change with time, thus
especially suitable for outdoor cladding.
* When used as pavers, susceptible to dirt
accumulation
SAND BLASTING
* Unslippery surface, even when wet
* Color variations are invisible,
especially when dry.
* Does not change with time, thus
especially suitable for outdoor cladding.
* Compared to bush hammering, less
susceptible to dirt accumulation
* Unlike bush hammering, the fossils are
more evident, thus providing a unique
and aesthetic look.
* Used also indoors for decorative
purposes.

* Slip resistant surface combined with
unmatched aesthetics.
* Specificly recommended for outdoors,
pool areas, pavers
* Withstands the affects of aging
* Due to the rustic appearance, there are
unlimited number of decorative
applications.
FLAMING + BRUSHING
* Has most of the advantages of the
flamed surface, plus the natural color
of the stone is visible.
* The surface is smooth, thus the slip
resistance is slightly reduced.
