Mekanik Salmastra;
Duramech Mekanik Salmastralar, döner ve sabit kısımdan oluşup, dinamik ekipmanlarda
akışkan sızdırmazlığının giderilmesi ve istenmeyen akışkan ve partiküllerin ortama girmesini
engelleyen parçalardır. Mekanik salmastralarda sabit eleman pompanın gövdesine
sabitlenmiştir. Döner eleman ise pompa miline sabitlenmiş olup pompa çalışınca dönmektedir.
Mekanik Salmastranın bileşenlerini şöyle sıralayabiliriz;

Döner ve sabit elemanların çalışma yüzeyleri,yay ve pompanın basıncı aracılığıyla birbirlerine
kuvvet uygularlar. Döner eleman o-ringleri,döner eleman ile mil arasındaki sızdırmazlığı,sabit eleman
o-ringi ise, sürtünme yüzeylerinde, sıvının atmosfer tarafı sızdırmazlığını sağlarlar.Pompalanan sıvı
çalışma sırasında, iki yüzey arasında (sabit ve döner yüzeyler) yağlama filmi oluşturur.Yağlama
filminin buharlaşmasıyla, buharlaşma bölgesinde mikroskobik tortular oluşmaya başlar ve bu tortular
salmastra boşluğunda kalarak aşınmaya sebep olurlar. Bu tip tortulaşma bir çok sıvı tipinde
görülmektedir. Pompalanacak sıvının kristalleşme durumu varsa , o zaman aşınmaya karşı daha
dirençli tungsten ve silisyum karbür yüzeyler tercih edilmelidir.Bu yüzeylerin salmastra boşlukları daha
düşük olacağından katı partiküllerin girme riski ve tortu oluşma riski daha düşük olacaktır.

MONTAJ VE ÇALIŞMA İLE İLGİLİ HUSUSLAR
1-Mekanik salmastralar üzerinde çalışma yapılacak ise, çalışma duruş anında,
basınçsız ve soğutulmuş durumda olmalıdır.
2-Yüzeyin pürüzlü olması, sürtünme yüzeylerinin işletme şartlarına göre olmaması,
elastomerlerin çalışma ortamına uygun olmaması, pompa ekipmanlarının
(rulman,mil'in vb.) standart çalışmaması ve mil salgısı gibi etkenler mekanik
salmastraların verimini düşürür.
3-Mekanik salmastralarda montaj öncesindeki hassasiyet, çalışma ve uzun ömür ile
doğru orantılıdır.Bu nedenle çalışma yüzeylerine ve elastomerlere zarar verilmemeli
ve temizliğe dikkat edilmelidir.
4-Mekanik salmastra tercih edilirken, işletmedeki çalışma ortamı göz önünde
bulundurularak en uygun salmastra seçilmelidir.
5-Montaj öncesi sabit eleman yatağının, mil yüzeylerinin temiz ve pürüzsüz olmasına
dikkat edilmelidir. Sabit yüzey o-ringleri dönmeyi önlemek için kuru olarak monte
edilmelidir. Sadece döner eleman montajında sürtünme kuvvetini azaltmak için,
sızdırmazlık ringlerinin yerleştiği bölgedeki mil üzerine, hafif ince yağ veya silikonlu
gres yada su ile nemlendirilme yapılmalıdır.
6-Kayan yüzeyler hiçbir zaman ıslatılmamalı her zaman kuru monte edilmelidir.
Üzerine ve içine mekanik salmastra yerleştirilecek tüm kenarlara 30*2 mm fatura
verilmeli ve çapakları alınmalıdır.
7-Kayan yüzeylerin düzgünlüğü, bunların sıcaklık ve basınç altındaki deformasyonu,
fabrikanın işletilme tarzı, sızdırmazlığı sağlanacak akışkanların özellikleri,mekanik
salmastranın takılmasındaki dikkat ve doğruluk,o-ringlerin ortama uyumu ve sızıntıyı
etkileyen en önemli faktörlerdir.
8-Tork iletimini helisel yayla sağlamak, mekanik salmastrayı dönme yönüne bağımlı
kılar. Dönen sızdırmazlık yüzeyine karşıdan bakıldığında, saat yönünde dönen
şaftlarda, sağa sarımlı yay, saat yönünü n tersine dönen şaftlarda ise sola sarımlı yay
kullanılır. Montajı kolaylaştırmak için konik helisel yay mile doğru sarım yönünün
tersine burularak itilir.
9-Körüklü salmastraların montajı yapılırken vida sıkar gibi burularak yerleştirilmeli ve
yüzey paralelliğine dikkat edilmelidir. Vidalı kilitlemelerde ise özel bir kilitleme tertibatı
yoksa pimler montaj ölçüsünde dikkatlice sıkılmalıdır.

1-Balanssız Salmastralar
Mekanik salmastra yüzeyleri üzerinde eksenel olarak pek çok kuvvet oluşmaktadır. Yay baskısı
ve sıvı basıncının uyguladığı hidrolik kuvvet , mekanik salmastrayı bütün halde tutarken,
yağlama filminin uyguladığı kuvvet buna karşı koyar. Fakat yüksek basınç ve yük altında karşı
koyamadığında ise, yağlama filmi oluşmayacağından, yüzeyler kuru çalışmaya maruz kalacak ve
kopmalar meydana gelecektir. Bu nedenle balanssız (dengelenmemiş) salmastralar düşük
basınçlar için idealdir.
2-Balanslı Salmastralar
Balanslı mekanik salmastralar, eksenel dönüşlerde , balanssız salmastraların iki yüzü arasında
görülen kuvveti azaltmak için tasarlanmıştırlardır . Böylece çalışma yüzeylerinde bulunan sıvı ,
hidrolik kuvvetin etkisinden kurtulur ve kuru çalışması önlenmiş olur . Kısaca, döner ve sabit
elemanların çalışma yüzeylerinin , bu kuvvetten en az etkilenmeleri için yapılmış teknik
tasarımdır.
3-Dönme yönüne bağımlı salmastralar
Dönme yönü, konik yaylı diye tabir edilen mekanik salmastralar için geçerlidir. Yayın dar konik
tarafı, mile geçirildiğinde , hareketi milden alır ve döner elemana aktarır. Bu hareket yayın
şekline bağlı olarak, yaydaki tutucu çıkıntının, döner elemandaki kanala girmesi ile sağlanır.
Bu da salmastrayı dönme yönüne bağımlı kılar.
4-Dönme yönünden bağımsız salmastralar
Tork iletimi pim ve setuskur ile yapılacak şekilde dizayn edilen mekanik salmastralarda, yaprak
yay , çok yaylı yay kullanılacağından , mekanik salmastra dönme yönünden bağımsız olacaktır.

Mechanical Seals ;
Mechanical Seals consist of rotary and stationary parts that are used in dynamical
equipments to prevent leakage and exclude the undesirable liquid and particles that are
available in the medium . In mechanical seals , the stationary element is fixed to the body
of pump and the rotary element is fixed to the shalf and rotates together with the shaft
when the pump operates . The Components of Mechanical Seals are below ;
1 – Rotary element .
2 – Stationary element .
3 - O-ring, bellows, cap .
4 - Spring
The operating faces of both rotary element and stationary element push each other through
the pressure of spring and pump . The o-rings of rotary element provide sealing between
rotary element and the shaft . The o-ring of stationary element provides the sealing of
liquid in atmospheric side and on the lapping faces . The liquid being pumped forms an
oiling film between two faces ( stationary and rotary ) during operation . With the vaporation
of oiling film , some microscopic residue begins to accumulate in the vaporation area and
causes wear by remaining in the area of seal. This kind of residue is seen in lots of liquid
types . If there is a risk of getting crystalized for the liquid that is pumped , then tc and
sic carbide faces that are more abrasion resistant should be preferred. Then , as there will be
less space between faces ,there will be low risk for the entrance of solid particles and
residue accumulation.
FACE COMBINATIONS OF MECHANICAL SEAL
Face combinations can be classified as below in general applications ;
a – Tungsten carbide
b – Silisium carbide
c - Antimony carbon
d – Resin- impregnated carbon .
e - Mainly , face combinations of mechanical seal are metal oxides ( ceramics ) , PTFE
reinforced with fibre glass , PTFE reinforced with carbon and CrNi - steel coated operating
faces .

ROTARY DIRECTION AND BALANCE OF MECHANICAL SEALS
1 - Unbalanced Mechanical Seals
2 - Balanced Mechanical Seals
3 - Seals that are dependent on the direction of rotation
4 - Seals that are independent on the direction of rotation
1 –Unbalanced Mechanical Seals : Lots of push occur axially on the faces of mechanical
seals .While hydraulic strength that is made by spring press and liquid pressure keeps
mechanical seal as whole , the strenght that oiling film applies , resists that strenght .
But , in the cases such as being under high pressure and having over work load when it
can’t resist that strenght then ,thus there will be no oiling film formation and faces will
be doomed to work dry and eventually some break-off will take place . Therefore
unbalanced mechanical seals are ideal for low pressure .
2 –Balanced Mechanical Seals : Balanced mechanical seals have been designed just in order
to decrease the push( seen in unbalanced seals ) between two faces in axial rotaries .
Thus, the liquid on operating faces gets rid of the effect of hydraulic strenght and
prevent dry-operating. Briefly , the faces of both stationary and rotary elements are
designed technically to get less affected from hydraulic push .
3 - Seals that are dependent on the direction of rotation : The direction of rotation
is valid for the mechanical seals that are called “ ones with conic spring”. When
the narrow conic part of the spring is penetrated into the stem , it takes the
movement from the stem and transfers it to the rotary element . This movement
that depends on the shape of spring is done by the insertion of the holding end
of the spring into the canal of rotary element ,which makes the seal dependent
on the direction of rotation .
4 - Seals that are independent on the direction of rotation : as wave spring and
multi-spring will be used in the mechanical seals that are designed to conduct
the torque transition with pin or headless set screw , mechanical seals will be
independent on the direction of rotation.
DETAILS OF INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
1 – Mechanical seals must be without pressure , cold and not operating while they are
being checked .
2 – The following factors cause decrease in the performance of mechanical seal ; not smooth
faces , friction faces that aren’t according to the conditions of operation , elastomers aren’t
suitable as per the operating media , no standard operation of pump equipments such
as ball-bearing , stem etc and leakage from stem .
3 – There is a direct relationship between the precision ahead of installation and good
performance , long life cycle of mechanical seal . So it should be paid high attention to
not to give any harm on the operating faces , elastomers and to cleaning .

4 – While choosing a mechanical seal , in order to choose the best one , operating medium
should be taken into consideration .
5 - Before starting installation , there is need to be carreful about that the bedding of the
stationary element and the surface of the stem are clean and smooth. O-rings of
stationary surface should be dry to prevent rotating while installing . Only in the
installation of rotary element , put some slightly thin oil or silicone grease or moisten
over the stem in the location where sealing rings are placed in order to decrease the
friction strenght .
6 – Slipping faces must never be wet , they must always be installed dry . The housing edges
where mechanical seal is going to be placed onto and into , should be proper for
30*2 mm and all burrs must be removed completely .
7 - Smoothness of slipping surfaces and their deformation under pressure and temperature ,
the running style of factory , the properties of fluid that is kept sealed , with how much
attention how well mechanical seal are being installed and lastly , the suitability of
o-rings into medium are the most important factors that affect leakage .
8 - It makes mechanical seal dependent on the direction of rotation to transfer torque
through helical spring , If the rotary sealing surface is looked on the front, in the shaft that
is rotating in the direction of o’clock wise, the spring wound right is used , but in the
shaft that is rotating in the direction of o’anti -clock wise, the spring wound left are used .
Push the conic helical spring towards the stem by bending it in the reverse direction of
winding for easy installation .
9 – Bellows seals should be placed tightening as if screwing and attention should be paid for
surface parallelism while installing the bellows seals . In screwing lockings , if there is no
special locking instalation on , pins should be tightened very carefully according to
installation measure .

The likely usage areas of P-XLCB Steam joints are super heated water , steam , super heated
oil , etc. They are used to transfer liquid into stationary axis through rotary companion flange.
DURAMECH buhar başlıkları kağıt , kauçuk , tekstil , kimyasal , plastik ve gıda işleme sanayilerinin
gereksinimlerini karşılar , aşırı zor şartlarda ve yüksek hızda çalışan silindirlerde bile güvenilir
hizmet sunarlar . ½” den 4” kadar olan ebatlarda mevcut olup , 150 psi ye kadar olan çalışma

DURAMECH rotary joints satisfy the demand of paper,rubber , textile,chemical,plastic and food
processing industries, provide dependable servise under harsh conditions and even on high speed
cylinders.They are available in different sizes between ½” to 4” and are suitable to work under
pressure upto 150 psi. Series for harsh conditions are also available.
