EDITORIAL
Welcome to the second newsletter of BSBEEP
You’ll see it’s quite different from the previous publication we’ve
produced.
In this second issue we’ve focused on energy efficiency education.
We saw for ourselves the enthusiasm youngsters can bring to energy
efficiency.
You will read in our Efficient Energy Use with Uncle Engineer booklet
that together with our project partners we have already had a big
impact in the way children approach energy and appreciate its true
value.
Energy efficiency education is one of the best investments of BSBEEP
Project. Not only for children but also for those of you who work in
industry there is a feature on energy efficiency in buildings.
Our projects are helping to map a path towards a real change in
this sector, but we need the support of governments at all levels:
national, regional and local.
Elsewhere in the newsletter you’ll see the first in a series of articles
on our activities within the framework of the BSBEEP Project in different Black Sea Basin countries.

BSBEEP selected as European
Territorial Cooperation Best
Practice Project
The Greek Managing Authority of European Territorial Cooperation Programs have announced the
selection of a group of projects as “ETC Best Practices Projects”, to be presented during the “1st
European Territorial Cooperation Conference: Promoting Best Practices-Sharing Experiences” which will
be held under the Greek Presidency of the Council of Europe and in the framework of the celebrations
for the Europe Day. It is worth mentioning that BSBEEP is one out of four Black Sea Program’s selected
projects amongst a total of 23 projects selected as best practices representing several Transnational and
Interregional programs. The conference will take place on 8th & 9th May 2014 in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The goal of the Conference is to capitalize existing experiences and lessons learnt and to focus efforts,
in order to transform individual and institutional experience and knowledge into capital that can be
used in the future.
“2nd Steering
Committee Meeting
of BSBEEP Project in
Yerevan, Armenia’’
In early December the capital
of Armenia, Yerevan welcomed
BSBEEP delegates of the ‘’2nd
Steering Committee Meeting’’.
Extensive discussions during
two days included the status
and process of the project
activities, expected results and
responsibilities of the project
partners, work plan and timeplanning, communication and
visibility rules, as well as financial
and administrative issues. Each
activity envisaged under the
project has been thoroughly
reviewed and discussed.

Changing children’s behaviour
through fun and games: Efficient
Energy Use with Uncle Engineer
Schools are in the front line of
the fight against unnecessary
energy consumption in buildings.
“Efficient Energy Use with
Uncle
Engineer”
booklet,
which has prepared by Samsun
Metropolitan Municipality within
the framework of the BSBEEP
Project for primary school
students,has helped teachers
pass on key messages using a
language specifically tailored to
both children and teenagers.
“If we want responsible
citizens we have to teach
them from the beginning.
It’s easier if we catch
them earlier, then
they will internalize
the message.”
The
overall
objective
of
“Efficient Energy Use with Uncle
Engineer” booklet is simple: if
you convince children today, you
won’t need to reeducate adults
tomorrow. Tomorrow’s adults
won’t need telling that energy is
a scarce resource.
4
The number of electronic
gadgets in children’s rooms
is increasing. They have real
purchasing power. If they leave
their gadgets on standby, that’s
a waste of energy. These are the
consumers of tomorrow. They
will be buying homes and cars.
If you make them aware early
then by the age of 16 or 17 they
will try to apply what they have
learned.
Scientists,
teachers,
public
relations
professionals
and
information technology experts
have had to tread a fine line
between fun and education. The
teachers were our starting point;
they helped to keep us on track,
if we had gone too much to the
fun side the project would have
failed.We found we needed to
move into the fun after getting
the content right”.
The Booklet is appreciated by all
other BSBEEP project partners as
an innovative and useful study
with regards to promoting of
the BSBEEP Project reaching
to different target groups and
providing sustainability of project
by increasing effectiveness of
the communication plan.
