Executive summary:
MODAP (Mobility, Data Mining and Privacy) expolitation activities include interaction
withHighTech companies and especially with SMEs for exhange of ideas and technology
transfer. During the course of the MODAP project, we have organized various events targeting
companies. These events attracted a lot of audience from companies including high rank
employees. In this deliverable we report a summary of our activities regarding companies
together with a list of companies we have interacted.

1. Overview
MODAP community interacted with various companies in the past few years. The aim of
the interaction was to disseminate, exchange ideas, and look for opportunities for
technology transfer. Various MODAP events in the form of application workshops, and
conferences that we have organized facilitated this interaction. The MODAP events that
targeted companies are as follows:

The list of SMEs and the other companies whom we interacted throughout the course of
the project are listed in this report together with brief information on the events which
were organized in order to attract those companies.

2. List of MODAP Events Targeting Companies
MODAP Workshop on Privacy-Aware Analysis of GSM Data, November 26th,
2010, Schloss Birlingoven, Sankt Augustin, Germany
In the second year of MODAP Fraunhofer IAIS organized a workshop on “Privacy-aware
Analysis of GSM Data”. The workshop took place on November 26th, 2010 in Sankt
Augustin, Germany. The aim of the workshop was to bring together practitioners and
researchers on a European level to present and discuss the chances, challenges, state-ofthe-art research and applications of GSM data with respect to privacy-aware data
analysis.
About 30 participants from five nations (France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey)
attended the workshop, representing seven business companies and four research
institutions. Among the attending companies were five European mobile network
operators: Deutsche Telekom AG Laboratories (Germany), Orange Labs (France), Swiss
Poster Research Plus AG (Switzerland), Vodafone D2 GmbH (Germany) and Wind
Telecomunicazioni S.p.A. (Italy).
The workshop program included invited talks as well as a poster and demonstration
session. The invited talks covered a wide range of topics, including the available data
sources at network operators, positioning challenges, privacy-preserving data mining as
well as applications of GSM data. A detailed list of the invited talks is given below. The
poster and demonstration session allowed all participants to present own work on the
analysis of GSM and mobility data. MODAP project partners were thus able to present
effectively state-of-the-art research and to discuss the application of research results with
experts of mobile network operators.

Fraunhofer IAIS organized a workshop on “Mobile Analytics Meets Social Media”.
About 30 participants from five nations (Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Turkey)
attended the workshop, representing three major corporations (WALL AG, HRS Hotel
Reservation Service and Deutsche Post AG), five middle-class business companies
dealing with Mobility Data and Social Media (see below), three major Network
Operators (Swisscom AG, Nokia Siemens Networks and Vodafone D2 GmbH) and four
research institutions (Fraunhofer IAIS, ISTI-CNR, University of Constance and TU
Dortmund University).
Alongside inviting network operators and research institutions, the focus of this second

MODAP workshop was directed to small and medium enterprises (SME) focusing on the
usage of mobility data (e.g. for LBS or mobile gaming) as well as enterprises that provide
and analyze mobility data.
