Industrial gas springs are important for
emergency stops and putting cranes in the
parking position
Great care is taken in production due to the
shear extent of the individual crane assignments and because there are always high
demands on the statics and safety. However
well a mobile folding crane is constructed,
two GS-19-50-AA-350n type industrial gas springs provide counterpressure in the construction
there is always a residual risk involved with
operation of moving crane parts. A particularly focus is put on the cables that serve
as tools. After all, there is the risk of cables
breaking in time due to the heavy loads applied. An associated loss of power would
lead to the trolley running uncontrollably
if inclined. the heavy masses would in turn
lead to immense damages once they start
moving. Preventing this was, and still is, the
job of industrial gas springs.
Pre-loaded with guide pulleys, these extend
in an emergency pushing out a locking pin,
which then clicks into the crane boom strut
construction and therefore stops the trolley
with its full weight after a short distance.
Alongside this emergency stop function,
gas springs also play an important role in
keeping the crane in the parking position:
they ensure a secure hold for parts locked in
place thanks to the gas springs.

the maintenance-free and ready-to-install industrial gas springs are
available for immediate delivery in body diameters of 8 to 70 mm and
forces of 10 to 13,000 n
Due to the fact that the Spierings Kranen research and development
team under the management of Leo Spierings is orientated towards
the future and is always improving the current concepts, the gas
springs that were previously installed were put through their paces
a short time ago. Doedijns, as a consulting company, drew Spierings’
attention to the new industrial gas spring models from Ace, which
display much faster extension speeds than those from another provider used before.
Industrial gas springs not only slow down quicker
conversion of the gas springs in the mobile folding cranes and the
change of provider were agreed to after several tests, as the new machine elements were not only able to convince with their extension
forces and speeds. Another advantage was displayed by the fact that
they can be mounted in a variety of positions. A compelling argument;
especially when they are being attached subsequently on several mobile folding cranes, like in this case. thanks to the advice given to
Doedijns, the best gas springs including the assembly points could
be quickly established. this is something that also facilitates integration. the model called GS-28-500-ee-1300 was therefore identified
from the large product range offered by Ace, the damping specialist,
located in rhineland. With a stroke of 500 mm, this gas spring with a
body diameter of 28 mm displays an extension force of 1,300 n. this
is enough to press the locking pin out quickly and safely. two smaller
gas springs from Ace were also attached. the two GS-19-50-AA-350n
type models achieve an extension force of 350 n, each with a 50 mm
stroke length. they do not serve as an emergency stopper or parking
device, but provide the counterpressure in the construction. Although
you can’t always be guaranteed to choose the trolley without a wobbly wheel at the supermarket, you can be sure that the trolley on a
mobile folding crane from Spierings Kranen always locks into place
when necessary.

X-COM S for Ex applications will be available in 1- to 15-pole
configurations in gray, blue and green-yellow. Each Ex module is
subjected to a high voltage test during the manufacturing process.
The modular design provides many possibilities to create custom
female plug assemblies. Connectors can be prepared regardless of
the final installation requirements and pre-assembled groups can
be tested prior to installation. Groups having the same number of
poles can be mechanically coded, preventing any mismating.

harmonics, phase shift and

They dynamically adapt to changing
grid and load situations, providing
an optimum compensation
performance at all times. The new
active filters for three phase networks on the level of 690 V/50 Hz
or 600 V/60 Hz are often used in heavy industry, chemical industry,
mining or oil exploration. The new active filters with the
designation FN 3420-200-690-3 can be programmed to the specific
needs of the application and provide up to 200 A of corrective
current. If more is needed, up to 10 units can be paralleled at the
same set of current transformers. State-of-the-art power electronics
with 3-level technology are at the core of the new filters, helping
to significantly reduce power loss. The 690 V active harmonic filters
come in sturdy IP54 rated cabinets. A UL-approved version (FN
3420-200-690-3-UL) is currently in preparation.

Düsseldorf Subway Line
Eight low-voltage power distribution systems will be supplied
The city of Düsseldorf will use eaton technology
to implement the low-voltage main power distribution systems including intelligent energy
monitoring required for the expansion of its city
rail network. Over the next two years, five new
stations will gradually be completed in the inner
city and a new subway line added to the existing
network. In all, eaton will supply eight low-voltage power distribution systems for the stations
of the so-called Wehrhahn line, and these will
primarily be designed for underground but also
partly for above ground installation.
“For the city of Düsseldorf, energy efficiency
and sustainability were decisive factors in the
development of the project,” explained Christoph Schink, the eaton power distribution sales
engineer who is handling the project. “The town
planners were therefore not only looking for a
solution that has been tried and tested in underground rail applications over many years, but
also for an intelligent system that allowed the
effective monitoring and evaluation of energy
consumption and the switching of all loads. We
are delighted that we were able to offer a suitable concept using our technologies.”

The brains of the system are implemented in the
XV200 HMI/PLC which serves as the PLC, visualization device and operator unit. It evaluates
the information and can monitor the operating
states of escalators, ticket machines and station
lighting systems. Functions can be activated or
shut down selectively in the event of an emergency or in order to optimize consumption.
The building shells of the tunnel section and
the stations are currently under construction.
However, the installation of the first low-voltage
power distribution system at the Graf-AdolfPlatz station is already planned for the middle
of the year. The gradual expansion and integration of the stations with eaton technology shall
be completed by the scheduled commissioning
of the Wehrhahn line in 2015.

una rubrica incentrata su cinque monografie relative ai
settori della distribuzione industriale (cuscinetti, utensili,

e pubblicate sottoforma di interviste a top manager di aziende
attive nel mercato specifico. La pagina di intervista include
una foto a figura intera e un box col profilo dell’intervistato, un
“company box” con i riferimenti aziendali, e un altro con il logo
dell’azienda. Il layout completo prevede inoltre una pagina intera
di pubblicità accanto alla pagina di intervista.
A section focused on five monographs concerning the areas
of industrial distribution (bearings, tools, equipment, power
transmissions, hydraulics & pneumatics) and published as
interviews with top managers of companies operating in the
specific industry. The interview page includes a full-page
photo and a small box with the profile of the interviewee, a

Verzolla, presente sul mercato dal 1958, offre prodotti che si articolano nelle
linee, cuscinetti, movimentazione lineare, trasmissioni di potenza, impiantistica
oleodinamica e pneumatica, utensileria e materiale di consumo per l’officina e per
gli impianti a servizio continuo. Il nuovo centro logistico di Monza (10mila mq)
coordina le unità distributive locali dislocate sul territorio. Il Gruppo Verzolla
comprende aziende quali Orla, Amati, Ricambi Cremona. www.verzolla.com
1. Il mercato dei cuscinetti è caratterizzato dalla forte competizione tra produttori europei e giapponesi. La produzione giapponese è oggi fortemente competitiva, specialmente per quanto riguarda il settore dei cuscinetti di piccole dimensioni. In generale tuttavia, la competizione è
oggi distorta dalle importazioni di prodotti di marchi primari contraffatti, non solo nel segmento dei cuscinetti a sfere, ma anche dei cuscinetti a rulli a botte, di precisione e di impiego
automobilistico. A questi si sono aggiunti negli ultimi anni sul mercato italiano i prodotti
cinesi a marca privata, con un livello qualitativo non omogeneo anche fra gli item di una
stessa famiglia, perché spesso costruiti da
fabbriche diverse con impianti produttivi
e standard qualitativi non assimilabili.
2. Durata, prestazioni e affidabilità del
prodotto, nonché la veridicità delle caratteristiche tecniche riportate a catalogo
sono gli aspetti che continuano a guidare
la scelta del prodotto. Oggi tuttavia le tendenze del mercato fanno sì che a incidere
in maniera crescente nella richiesta del
cliente sia il prezzo finale.
3. A parte la manutenzione che è trasversale a tutta l’attività manifatturiera, il
settore più significativo per noi è rappresentato dai costruttori di macchine, con
particolare riferimento al metal working,
machine tools, packaging, food, oil & gas,
wood, plastica e gomma, paper, gearbox.
4. Tra le variabili che hanno condizionato la distribuzione c’è stata senza dubbio
un’affermazione considerevole dei distributori, ed è cresciuta la concorrenza tra
loro sul territorio. Si sono affacciati sul
mercato italiano alcuni grandi gruppi
europei anche se, va segnalato, ancora
esclusivamente nel settore MRO.
5. Per quanto ci riguarda, il fatturato del comparto cuscinetti rappresenta una parte molto importante
del totale. Attualmente la tendenza
è in leggera crescita, andando a
incidere per circa il 50% sul totale.
6. Quella del ricondizionamento
oggi è una pratica proponibile solo
se effettuata su alcuni cuscinetti di
costo/misura tale da giustificarne
la revisione. Si parla quindi esclusivamente di cuscinetti di grande dimensione. In tutti gli altri casi è antieconomico.
7. Per l’anno in corso, e con buona probabilità anche per il prossimo, stante la situazione
di stallo con la quale dobbiamo confrontarci,
non si intravede una ripresa del mercato. In
una congiuntura economica così debole non
potrà che crescere il livello della competizione
sui servizi offerti alla clientela, che oggi non si
può più ridurre alla semplice consegna, ma si
configura in un insieme di componenti: dalla
gamma di prodotto alla disponibilità di magazzino, all’assistenza tecnica e ai servizi pre
