Advance Against Daesh in Sinjar
Thursday November 12, 2015
OFFICIALS SAY AROUND 7,500 PESHMERGA FORCES ARE PARTICIPATING
IN OPERATION LED BY KURDISH PRESIDENT MASOUD BARZANI
MOSUL, Iraq
Peshmerga forces from Iraq’s Kurdish
region seized control of the governor’s office of Sinjar district Thursday
in an extensive military operation
against Daesh, according to the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
Hemin Hawrami, head of foreign
relations at the party, said on Twitter that the Peshmerga forces clashed
with Daesh in central Sinjar and are
advancing rapidly, taking control of
many villages east of the district in an
extensive operation led by President
Masoud Barzani, who was in the frontlines.
Hawrami added that the forces managed to seize control of a strategic
road that connects Sinjar with Raqqa,
Daesh’s stronghold in Syria.
Officials said around 7,500 Peshmerga
forces are participating in the operation, with air support provided by the
U.S.-led international coalition.
“Peshmerga forces totally purged
Tal al-Shor and Hajji Fadel villages
[25 kilometers in eastern Sinjar] and
found the bodies of seven Daesh militants,” Sherzad Zakholi, a peshmerga
captain, said.
Meanwhile, the official military media wing said that the Peshmerga
forces wrestled control of five villages
from Daesh in Sinjar.
Jamal Eminki, the Iraqi Kurdish region’s chief of staff, told Anadolu
Agency that the Peshmerga forces advanced approximately 10 kilometers
into the area and are gaining ground
in the eastern part of Sinjar.

EXTENSIVE BOMBING CAMPAIGN ON
ACCEPTING THE VISITS OF EGYPTIAN
PRESIDENT ABDEL FATTAH EL-SISI AND
CHINESE PREMIER XI JINPING DOES
NOT JIBE WITH BRITISH DEMOCRATIC
VALUES
By Ahmet Gurhan Kartal
LONDON (AA) - ANALYSIS - Six
months after the U.K.’s foreign secretary, Philip Hammond, led a British
delegation of investors to Sharm elSheikh to strengthen relations with
Egypt, the country’s onetime junta
leader and current President Abdel
Fattah el-Sisi -- who is yet to hold a
democratic election -- received the
red-carpet treatment in London last week.
The British business mission in March
succeeded as U.K. oil giant BP was
quick to secure a £7.8 billion ($11.8
billion) investment deal in the Nile delta.
Thousands of people in London protested against Sisi’s visit to the U.K,
as he is known as the architect of one
of the bloodiest coups in this decade.
The country’s first democratically
elected president, Mohamed Morsi,
and hundreds of members of Muslim Brotherhood -- the ruling party
before the military took over -- have
been sentenced to capital punishment
and await their fates in Egypt’s prisons.
Human rights organizations and
NGOs, on the other hand, have been
vocal in criticizing Prime Minister
David Cameron’s Tory government
for receiving a visit from a coup leader
who many see as guilty of gross human rights violations.
Similar protest scenes also took place
on London streets when Chinese
President Xi Jinping visited the British capital in October. Hundreds of
policemen patrolled the highly valued
guest’s route to state banquet held in his honor.
Individuals who reportedly dared to
wave the Tibetan flag as Xi’s convoy
went past were detained by the police.
Security forces also arrested a Tiananmen Square massacre survivor who
tried to protest against the Chinese leader.
During Xi’s visit, Britain managed to
secure business and energy deals with China.
Now some experts are claiming that
the protesters who were trying to be
heard and to make a statement against
human rights violations in China
were not allowed free expression in
a country that describes itself as the
world’s most advanced democracy.
