I. Traditional International Food Festival
33 different dishes from both national and international
cuisines participated in the food competition within the
scope of I. Traditional International Food Festival, which
was organized by the Gastronomy and Culinary Arts
Department, Izmir Katip Celebi University on 07th May
2014.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Zehra Nuray Nişancı was rewarded with
the first prize for the dish named “Perde Pilavı” (Rice).

İsmet Ayvalık was rewarded with the second prize for the
dish named “Maklube”.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Dilek Ongan was rewarded with the third
prize for the dish named “Körili Tavuk” (Curried
Chicken).
New Approaches in Advertisement
In the panel entitled “New Approaches in Turkey’s
Torusim Promation”, organized by Faculty of
Tourism, Izmir Katip Celebi University and Izmir
Culture and Tourism Directorate on 07th May 2014
within the scope of the activities of 38th National
Tourism Week, the promotional strategies of
Turkish tourism and tourism in Izmir were discussed
in detail.

Waiting for new students!
The Faculty of Tourism which accepted the students with the
highest mark “351.403” to Tourism Management Department in
the year of 2013 is waiting for new students! Prof. Dr. Cengiz
Demir, Dean of Tourism Faculty, Izmir Katip Celebi University
made clear that Faculty of Tourism, Izmir Katip Celebi
University became the first and only tourism faculty in the field
of Tourism Management in Turkey which offers undergraduate
(bachelor’s degree), graduate (master) and doctorate (Pd.D.)
programs (100 % English) with the approval of Tourism
Management Doctorate program in English by the Higher
Education council of Turkey.
First students graduated from Tourism Management
Program with thesis and non-thesis of Graduate
School of Social Sciences, Izmir Katip Celebi
University.

Workshop on Izmir Hoteliers’
Problems and Expectations
from Faculty of Tourism
The workshop on Izmir Hoteliers’
Problems and Expectations from Faculty
of Tourism, Izmir Katip Celebi University
were attended by the representatives of
some of the hotel brands located in Izmir
and academic staff of the faculty. In the
first session of the workshop that was
held in two sessions, problems of Izmir
Hoteliers and expectations from Faculty
of Tourism were discussed in detail. In
the second session (afternoon); solutions
for the identified problems were discussed
be determined. Moreover, the academic
staff and representatives of hospitality
industry in Izmir had the chance to meet
one another and hoteliers were informed
about the infrastructure facilities of the
faculty and possibilities of further
collaborations.
“Izmir Tourism Awards Ceremony”
held this year for the 6th time has been
organized by Izmir Culture and
Tourism Directorate since 2009 with
an aim to support, encourage and
dignify the distinguished employees
and volunteers of the tourism industry,
who are making contribution to Izmir’s
tourism and working for its
improvement.
In the “6th Izmir Tourism Awards and
Tourism Season Opening Ceremony”
held on 22th April Tuesday, a total of
18 tourism awards in different 15
categories were given.
In the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Cengiz
Demir, Dean of Tourism Faculty and
Head of Tourism Management
Department, Izmir Katip Celebi
University was rewarded with the
“Tourism Educator of the Year
Award”
“Climb Your Own Everest”
“The Magic of Smile”
Kutay Ürkmen, psychologist and educator, made
many important reminding in the conference entitled
as “The Magic of Smile”, which was organized on
21th April 2014 by the Recreation Management
Department, Faculty of Tourism, Izmir Katip Celebi
University.
Nasuh Mahruki, founding member and
president of Search and Rescue
Association (AKUT) and worldwide
known sportsman, attended the event
co-organized
by
Recreation
Management Department, Faculty of
Tourism and Nursing Department,
Faculty of Health Sciences on 22thApril
2014 with his presentation entitled as
“Climb Your Own Everest”
2014 Tourism Slogan
Contest
Second Prize Goes
Faculty of Tourism
The slogan contest about Izmir was
organized on 22th April 2014 aiming
to contribute to Izmir’s tourism and
increase tourism awareness. The
competition emphasizes historical,
touristic and cultural assets of Izmir,
aims to increase the number of
tourism activities in Izmir and create
new slogan proposals for tourism
promotion during “Tourism Week”
