Final Saturday, April 23, 2011 - 20:45 Olympique de Marseille - Montpellier Hérault SC Stade De France France 2 04/22/2011 - Ligue de Football Professionnel - 2010/2011 - ligue1.com PREVIEW : OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE - MONTPELLIER HÉRAULT SC Olympique de Marseille - Montpellier Hérault SC Feature Preview Just a week after they locked horns in Ligue 1, defending champions Marseille and Montpellier will fight it out for the first trophy of 2011 in the Coupe de la Ligue final at the Stade de France... Last season Marseille won the Ligue 1/Coupe de la Ligue double and Didier Deschamps' side remain very much in the hunt for a repeat performance this season, providing they make it two wins in six days over Montpellier. Taye Taiwo's 82nd-minute penalty secured a come-from-behind 2-1 win for OM at the Stade de la Mosson after Olivier Giroud's 64th-minute opener had been cancelled out by André-Pierre Gignac. However, the dress rehearsal turned sour ten minutes from time when OM and France international forward Loic Rémy and Montpellier's Morocco international defender Abdelhamid El Kaoutari were sent from the field meaning both will miss Saturday's showcase at the Stade de France. Scorer Giroud, who took his Ligue 1 tally to ten for the season against OM, believes last weekend's loss will only spur Montpellier on to bigger and better things. "I think we played well, even better than well against Marseille," said last season's Ligue 2 player of the year. "In my opinion, there are plenty of positives to take from the game. Everyone's put the loss behind us now and we're all determined to learn from it and be even stronger this Saturday at the Stade de France. "The key to the match will be our unity and team spirit," continued the former Tours front man. "We have everything to gain and they have everything to lose: the pressure is on their shoulders! Everyone expects Marseille to win and retain their trophy. On the other, it would be something incredible for us and the club. We're going to do everything we possibly can to take this Cup back to Montpellier." Currently second in the league and the form side in Ligue 1 since the turn of the year, Marseille are favourites and midfielder Benoît Cheyrou, who set up Gignac's equaliser last Sunday with a visionary through-ball, is more than happy to bear the weight of expectation. "We not going to shirk our responsibilities or the favourites tag," said the former Lille and Auxerre midfielder. "When you play for OM you have to cope with this type of pressure week-in, week-out. If you can handle living up to the favourites tag, you shouldn't sign for Marseille." Marseille whose 3-1 victory in last season's final over Bordeaux set them on their way to the domestic double, have been eking out victories in recent weeks, but Cheyrou doesn't expect that to change this Saturday: "I think we were probably playing better football two years ago, but at the end of the day, we finished the season second and without a Cup. I'd love to play good football, but at the moment, we're winning and that's the most important thing. A final isn't about playing football, it's all about winning." Montpellier are making their first ever trip to the Stade de France. They have won two French Cups - in 1929 and 1990 and finished losing finalist in 1931 and 1994. Their opponents Marseille are France's most successful club boasting nine Ligue 1 titles, ten French Cups and last season's first ever Coupe de la Ligue trophy. 04/22/2011 Ligue de Football Professionnel - 2010/2011 - Ligue1.com 2 Olympique de Marseille - Montpellier Hérault SC -HISTORY: As fate would have it, these two sides met just last weekend in Week 31 of Ligue 1, with Marseille coming from behind to register a 2-1 victory at the Stade de la Mosson. -MHSC target man Olivier Giroud fired the home side in front (64') only for André-Pierre Gignac to equalise (69') and Taye Taiwo to give OM all three points from the penalty spot (82').
