MATCH PRESS KIT
Match background
Trabzonspor AŞ began their first UEFA Champions League campaign in fine style with four points from their first two
games but lost at PFC CSKA Moskva on matchday three and must regroup swiftly for the reverse fixture.
• The Turkish team lost 3-0 in Moscow in the teams' first meeting, Seydou Doumbia scoring either side of a goal from
Aleksandrs Cauņa in a game that took CSKA level with their opponents on four points but above them into second
place in Group B.
• That was a first setback for Trabzonspor, whose first ever group stage game in the competition produced a dream
outcome as Ondřej Čelůstka's late goal secured a famous 1-0 win at 2010 European champions FC Internazionale
Milano in San Siro. They followed up with a 1-1 draw at LOSC Lille Métropole secured by Gustavo Colman's second-half
penalty.
• CSKA had to recover from a two-goal deficit in both their opening games, drawing 2-2 at Lille on 14 September –
Doumbia scoring twice in the final 18 minutes – and rallying from 2-0 down at home to Inter on matchday two. However,
the visitors had the last word through substitute Mauro Zárate.
Match background
• While Trabzonspor had not faced a Russian team before matchday three, CSKA only have to go back two seasons
for their last fixture against Turkish opponents, beating Beşiktaş JK 2-1 home and away in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions
League group stage.
• Evgeni Aldonin scored for CSKA in stoppage time in Istanbul on 8 December 2009 while Alan Dzagoev notched the
opening goal in the matching victory on 30 September.
• The Moscow side's only other UEFA Champions League away game in Turkey ended in a 3-1 defeat at Fenerbahçe
SK in the 2007/08 group stage in which Igor Akinfeev played in goal.
• In the 1971/72 European Champion Clubs' Cup first round CSKA drew 1-1 away to Galatasaray AŞ and went through
4-1 on aggregate.
• CSKA, the 2004/05 UEFA Cup winners, reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League on their last
participation in 2009/10, their best achievement in the competition. There they faced FC Internazionale Milano, the
eventual winners, losing both legs 1-0. In the round of 16 they saw off the challenge of Sevilla FC thanks to a 2-1 win
in Spain after the home leg ended 1-1.
• In that season's group stage the Russian club lost 3-1 at VfL Wolfsburg and drew 3-3 at Manchester United FC
before winning at Beşiktaş.
• In 12 European Cup home games Trabzonspor have won seven and lost two, scoring 15 goals and conceding nine.
In a total of five home games in the UEFA Champions League since 2004/05, including this season's third qualifying
round, last season's Turkish Super League runners-up won two games, lost one and drew two.
Team ties
• Róbert Vittek scored Slovakia's equaliser in Moscow against Russia in a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier. The game,
which ended 1-1, was played at the Dynamo Stadium on 4 September 2004.
• Tomáš Necid and Čelůstka played together at SK Slavia Praha.
• Didier Zokora and Doumbia both play for the Ivory Coast.
• Zokora faced CSKA in the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League round of 16 while at Sevilla. His team earned a 1-1
draw in Moscow, CSKA winning the second leg 2-1.
• Both Vágner Love and Paulo Henrique spent part of 2010 in Brazil. Love played for CR Flamengo and scored the
only goal against Paulo Henrique's SE Palmeiras on 2 June 2010, although Henrique did not feature.
• Marek Sapara faced CSKA in a 2006/07 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round encounter while with MFK
Ružomberok. CSKA won 5-0 on aggregate, Love scoring in both games.
• Necid scored both Czech Republic goals in a 2-0 victory against Turkey in a UEFA European Under-19 Championship
qualifying encounter on 5 November 2006. Onur Kıvrak was an unused substitute for Turkey.
• Necid was in the senior Czech team beaten 2-1 by Turkey in a friendly international on 22 May 2010.

• Didier Zokora has committed 14 fouls, the joint highest total in the competition along with Stefan Kiessling.
• Burak Yılmaz is available after completing a three-game ban on matchday three. Alanzinho will incur a suspension
with his next booking.
Latest domestic information
• Saturday 29 October: Gaziantepspor 0–1 Trabzonspor AŞ (Halil Altıntop 90)
Tolga; Čelůstka, Głowacki, Kaçar, Čech; Serkan, Colman, Aykut Akgün; Mierzejewski (Paulo Henrique 78); Halil
Altıntop, Brożek (Alanzinho 64)
• Halil Altıntop's first goal for the club ended a run of three games without a win.
• Burak, Trabzonspor's 19-goal top scorer last season, has contributed 11 of their 14 league goals this term. Out
through illness on Saturday, he has registered in each of his last seven appearances for the club.
• Şenol Güneş's side twice came from behind to earn back-to-back league draws after matchday three. Burak's penalty
earned a share of the spoils at Bursaspor on 22 October and he converted from the spot again four days later – having
already reduced the arrears from open play – as Trabzonspor drew 2-2 with Antalyaspor.
• Ever-present Tolga Zengin has kept two clean sheets in his last ten games – Saturday and the 2-0 win at Eskişehirspor
on 2 October.
• The Black Sea outfit have conceded a goal from the 85th minute onwards in three of their nine top-flight encounters
this term, costing them five points.
Injury news
• Burak did not feature against Gaziantepspor because of a cold; Paulo Henrique returned as a substitute for the first
time since undergoing knee surgery on 3 October.
• Ondřej Čelůstka was rested against Antalyaspor after picking up a minor knock at Bursaspor but started on Saturday.
• Tayfun Cora and Onur Kıvrak have not featured this season because of cruciate ligament problems though both
were on the bench against Gaziantepspor.
• Róbert Vittek (torn knee ligaments, out since 17 September) and Barış Ataş (torn hamstring, 2 September) are out
of action.
Miscellaneous
• Burak is likely to be on duty on 11 and 15 November when Turkey face Croatia in the UEFA EURO 2012 play-offs.
The uncapped Čelůstka has been called up for Czech Republic's tie against Montenegro.

MATCH PRESS KIT
• Doumbia struck an 11-minute hat-trick – his second successive three-goal haul – as CSKA remained two points
behind Premier-Liga leaders FC Zenit St Petersburg. CSKA were seven points clear at the summit on 25 July.
• It did not go all the home side's way: Sergei Ignashevich missed a penalty on ten minutes and Vágner Love was
sent off (74).
• It was only CSKA's fourth win in 12 league fixtures; they have been held six times during that run.
• Doumbia, who has scored 16 goals in his last 12 club appearances, struck his first hat-trick for CSKA on 23 October
as Leonid Slutski's side – shorn of the suspended Deividas Šemberas and Vladimir Gabulov, ineligible against his
parent club – won 5-3 at FC Anzhi Makhachkala.
• Gabulov, who played for CSKA between 2004 and 2006, returned on loan from Anzhi over the summer to provide
backup for the injured Igor Akinfeev.
Injury news
• Georgi Schennikov came on as a substitute at Anzhi, his first appearance since suffering an ankle injury on 6 June.
He started on Friday.
• Kirill Nababkin was a late replacement at Spartak Nalchik on his return from a three-game lay-off with a shoulder
injury.
• Sekou Oliseh has missed CSKA's last four games with a hamstring problem.
• Akinfeev is unlikely to play again this year after damaging cruciate ligaments in his left knee during CSKA's 2-2 draw
at FC Spartak Moskva on 28 August.
• Keisuke Honda was ruled out for three months after injuring his right knee in the same game. Tomáš Necid (knee,
10 June) and Mark González (hip, 30 April) are long-term absentees.
• Viktor Vasin, yet to make his competitive debut for CSKA after suffering a cruciate ligament injury shortly following
his arrival at the club at the start of 2011, has been an unused substitute for the past two games.
International duty
• Elvir Rahimić is likely to be on duty on 11 and 15 November when Bosnia and Herzegovina face Portugal in the
UEFA EURO 2012 play-offs.

MATCH PRESS KIT
Head coach
Trabzonspor AŞ: Şenol Güneş
Date of birth: 1 June 1952
Nationality: Turkish
Playing career: Sebat Gençlik, Trabzonspor AŞ
Coaching career: Trabzonspor AŞ (four times), Boluspor, İstanbulspor, Antalyaspor, Sakaryaspor, Turkey, FC Seoul
• Born in the Black Sea port of Trabzon, Günes became a legendary figure at his local club, keeping goal in the
Trabzonspor side that won the Turkish league title six times – and the Turkish Cup three times – during his 15-year
spell from 1972-87; also won 31 caps for Turkey, captaining the team on five occasions.
• Made the natural transition from player to coach at Trabzonspor after hanging up his gloves, moving up swiftly from
assistant to head coach; rejoined the club after spells with Boluspor and İstanbulspor, leading the team from 1993 to
1997, claiming the Turkish Cup in 1995 and a league runners-up spot in 1996.
• After brief spells with Antalyaspor and Sakaryaspor he was appointed Turkish national team coach in 2000 and
proved an immediate hit, leading the country not only to their first FIFA World Cup finals in 48 years but all the way
to the semi-finals, and third place, of the 2002 tournament in Korea/Japan.
• Left Turkey job after failure to qualify for UEFA EURO 2004 and returned to Trabzonspor but reign was brief and he
later resurfaced in Korea Republic – the scene of his greatest triumph – with FC Seoul.
• Returned to Trabzonspor for the fourth time in December 2009 and led club to Turkish Cup and Super Cup triumph
the following year, Trabzonspor then finishing second in the 2010/11 Süper Lig.
PFC CSKA Moskva: Leonid Slutski
Date of birth: 4 May 1971
Nationality: Russian
Playing career: FC Zvezda Gorodische
Coaching career: FC Olimpia Volgograd, FC Uralan Elista, FC Moskva, PFC Krylya Sovetov Samara, PFC CSKA
Moskva
• Started playing career as a goalkeeper with Volgograd regional team Zvezda Gorodishche, but suffered a severe
injury after falling from a tree and was forced to hang up his gloves after just 13 matches.
• Began coaching career in youth football at Olimpia Volgograd. From 2002 to 2004 he worked at Uralan Elista where
he was promoted to head coach following the club's top-flight relegation.
• Took the reins at Moskva reserves in 2004 and replaced Valeri Petrakov as the club's head coach the following
summer. Under Slutski, Moskva finished fifth in 2005 and sixth in 2006 before attaining a record-high fourth position
in 2007.
• After a spell at Krylya, guiding them into Europe, he signed a three-year contract with CSKA Moskva in October
2009, replacing Juande Ramos. That December he led CSKA to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages for
the first time before quarter-final elimination by FC Internazionale Milano.
• Twelve months later CSKA's UEFA Europa League campaign was similarly ended by the eventual winners, FC
Porto, but May brought consolation in the form of the Russian Cup – Slutski's first major trophy.

• Born in Pamplona, Undiano Mallenco stepped up to the Spanish top flight in September 2000 and had already

between Athletic Club and Real Sociedad de Fútbol.
• He was awarded his FIFA badge in 2004 and made his UEFA bow the same year. Undiano Mallenco experienced
his first finals at the 2005 UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Northern Ireland, by which time he was already

finals and Real Madrid's extra-time defeat of FC Barcelona in the 2010/11 Copa del Rey final.

UEFA Champions League: Group stage milestones
• Holders FC Barcelona are bidding to avoid becoming the first defending champions to fail to get through a group
stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000
and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage).
• In 1992/93, Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and were beaten 4-3 on aggregate
in the second round by PFC CSKA Moskva.
• No team has successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy with AC Milan (1989, 1990) the last club
to win consecutive European Cups. Milan (1994, 1995), AFC Ajax (1995, 1996), Juventus (1996, 1997) and Manchester
United (2008, 2009) have all returned to the UEFA Champions League final as holders only to lose.
• S.S. Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta became the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League in
2007/08 when he featured against Olympiacos FC on matchday one at the age of 43 years and 168 days. The record
was previously held by Alessandro Costacurta, the AC Milan defender who played against AEK Athens FC in 2006/07
at the age of 40 years and 211 days. Ballotta was aged 43 years 252 days when he featured against Real Madrid CF
on matchday six.
• Ryan Giggs is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 37 years and 289 days, in Manchester United's
1-1 draw at SL Benfica on 14 September 2011.
• Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared in the UEFA Champions League. He was 16 years
and 87 days when he started for RSC Anderlecht against FC Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was then
sent off in the 37th minute.
• Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 195
days. He found the net in Olympiacos's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg BK on 1 October 1997.
• Barcelona and Manchester United FC have both finished as group winners on 12 occasions, one more than Real
Madrid.
• Four teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93),
Paris Saint-Germain FC (1994/95), FC Spartak Moskva (1995/96) and Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage).
• Twelve teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point, including
MŠK Žilina and FK Partizan in 2010/11. The other ten are: Maccabi Haifa FC and Debreceni VSC (2009/10), FC
Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08), PFC Levski Sofia (2006/07), SK Rapid Wien (2005/06), Anderlecht (2004/05), Spartak Moskva
and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2002/03, first and second group stage respectively), Fenerbahçe SK (2001/02, first group
stage) and 1. FC Košice (1997/98).
• Manchester United scored 20 goals in the 1998/99 group stage, more than any other side has managed. Barcelona
scored 19 times in the 1999/2000 first group stage.
• MŠK Žilina conceded 19 goals in their six outings in 2010/11, equalling the record let in during a group stage set by
Debrecen (2009/10), Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08) and Ferencvárosi TC in 1995/96.
• No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93),
AFC Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea FC (2005/06), Liverpool FC (2005/06), Villarreal CF
(2005/06) and Manchester United (2010/11) all let in just one.
• Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six of the 2006/07 campaign, Spartak Moskva
went 22 games without a victory in the competition, surpassing the unwanted record set by AEK Athens FC on
matchday three of the same campaign.
• The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is seven points. The first to do it, since three points for
a win was introduced in 1995/96, were Legia Warszawa that same season before FC Dynamo Kyiv and Bayer 04
Leverkusen managed it in 1999/2000 and Liverpool in 2001/02. FC Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus
both progressed with seven points in 2002/03, a feat achieved by Rangers FC and SV Werder Bremen in 2005/06.
