Paris
The romantic city
Best buys: Explore the Champs Elysées and rue du Faubourg
St-Honoré for haute couture. Department stores such as Galeries
Lafayette and Printemps offer a wide range of shopping.
Of all Europe’s capitals, Paris is
undoubtedly the most glamorous.
Haute cuisine and haute couture mix
comfortably with the avant-garde. Whilst
modern Paris may give the illusion of
being a cosmopolitan city, its French
culture is evident right from its berets
to its baguettes, its boules to its
brioche.
Eiffel Tower
Out and about: Savour typical meals and fine wines in the city’s many
brasseries and Parisian cafés such as Fouquet’s; sightsee whilst you dine
aboard a Bateau Mouche cruising on the Seine; famed Parisian cabarets
such as Moulin Rouge, Lido and Crazy Horse, modern discothèques
and live music venues.
Paris continues to live up to its
reputation for excellent nightlife. The
famous nightspots like the Moulin
Rouge, Lido and Crazy Horse still exist,
whilst modern live music venues
abound. Of course, you shouldn’t miss
the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe,
Versailles and the Louvre.
Average climate in Paris
Places of interest: The chic boulevard of Champs Elysées; Arc de
Triomphe; the Eiffel Tower, the city’s iconic landmark; the cathedral of
Notre Dame; and The Louvre museum, housing the famous Mona Lisa.

Paris and Versailles
Full-day coach excursion
This excursion is the ideal
introduction to this enthralling city.
We start where Paris itself started,
on the Ile de la Cité, where Notre
Dame stands, one of the most
magnificent examples of Gothic
ecclesiastical architecture in all
of France, before heading into
the trendy Marais district, which
still retains its pre-revolutionary
architecture.
We then visit the Latin Quarter,
home to a lively mix of shops
and restaurants. See the Basilica de Sacré Coeur, with its white
Byzantine cupolas. Discover picturesque Montmartre, the city’s
traditional entertainment quarter, symbolised by the windmill sails of the
Moulin Rouge. We then move on to visit the Louvre, the largest museum
in the world. The museum’s vast collection contains treasures such as the
Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.
From there we go to the Palace of Versailles, the most beautiful of all
France’s chateaux. Although no longer used as a royal residence it still
retains its glory. Accompanied by your driver-guide, you will see the
magnificent park and the Grand Trianon. Inside, with the aid of an audio
guide, you will see the State Apartments, including the glorious Hall
of Mirrors and the King and Queen’s Apartments.
This excursion operates daily except for Mondays and includes pick-up
and drop-off at your hotel, entrance fees and English-speaking guide.

Côte d’Azur
Côte d’Azur
The elegance of the French Riviera
The sun-drenched Riviera, with the 3,000-metre Alpes-Maritimes as
a spectacular backdrop, meanders along France’s rocky Mediterranean
coast, past the palisades of old Monaco or the elegant Promenade
des Anglais at Nice. For more than 200 years this has been the holiday
playground of Europe, the mild climate, lovely inland scenery, sophisticated
entertainment, fine food and sheer style attracting visitors from around
the world.
Casino Square, Monte Carlo
In Nice, the old town’s winding streets, heady with the aromas of
traditional Provençal cooking, complement the smart hotels, trendy
cafés and formal gardens that line the sea front and eight-kilometre
beach. After Paris, the city has the largest number of museums and
galleries in France. Shopping ranges from major European department
stores to exclusive designer boutiques. Clubs, discothèques and
restaurants ensure plentiful evening entertainment.
The Principality of Monaco, perched on a rocky promontory near the
Italian border, may be best-known for its Belle Epoque casino and the
annual Formula 1 Grand Prix, but it has much more to offer – from
appealing bistros, elegant restaurants and stylish boutiques to
immaculate gardens, attractive harbours and spectacular views.
Places of interest: Nice – the Old Quarter; Marc Chagall Message
National Museum and Saint Nicholas’ Russian Orthodox Cathedral;
Monte Carlo – the Palace of the Prince, Musée Océanographique and
St Martin’s Gardens.
Beachfront, Nice
Best buys: Department stores and exclusive designer boutiques.
Out and about: Discothèques, restaurants, bars and cafés, especially
in Nice’s Old Quarter and Monte Carlo’s casino.
Sporting attractions: Sailing, diving, windsurfing, water sports and golf.
Of the region’s 21 golf courses, 19 are open all year-round. There are four
more golf courses in the mountains.
