Ders çakışmalarını en çok hangi öğrenciler yaşıyor?
Stüdyo dersi alan öğrenciler çakışma
sorunuyla daha sık karşılaşıyor. Alternatif
ders seçim imkanlarının çok olmasına
rağmen, ders saatleri uzun olan stüdyo öğrencileri ders seçmekte zorlandı.
Bölümlerle daha yakın çalışarak bunları
gidereceğiz.
Bu çakışmaları gidermek için neler
yapılacak?
İkinci yabancı dil dersleri sabit kalacak ve
diğer bölüm dersleri bu saatlere uyacak. Bundan böyle ikinci yabancı dil dersleri hep aynı
saatlerde yapılacak, böylece ÇAP öğrencileri ile
sınıf tekrarı yapan bütün öğrenciler ders saatlerini önceden öğrenebilecek. Bu düzenlemeler
daha yeni başladı yani öğrenme ve optimizasyon süreçleri henüz tamamlanmadı. Her
dönem daha iyiye gidecek bir sistem kurmaya
çalışıyoruz.
Artık hiçbir öğrencinin ders çakışması yaşamayacağı kesin mi?
Sistem ne kadar iyi kurulursa kurulsun ÇAP
derslerinin çakışmaması çok zor. Alttan
veya üsten ders alan öğrencilerin derslerinin
çakışmayacağını garanti edebiliriz fakat ÇAP
öğrencileri için bunu garanti edemiyoruz.
Okulumuzun ÇAP öğrencilerinden Hasan
Deniz Çizmeci, derslerinin çakışmasından
dolayı şikayetçi olduğunu belirterek; "ÇAP
yaptığımdan beri derslerimin çakışmasından
dolayı derslerimi yaz okulunda tamamlamak
zorunda kalıyorum. Bu durum bir belirsizlik
yaratıyor,belki son senemde okulum uzayacak ,
bu duruma bir çözüm bulunacağına inanıyorum." Yeni öğretim döneminde İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi Öğrenci İşleri Müdürlüğü
kaldırıldı ve yerine Kayıt Kabul Müdürlüğü ve
Öğretim Planlama ve Koordinasyon Müdürlüğü olarak iki ayrı bölüm oluşturuldu. Yeni
sistemde, öğrenci sekreterliklerine ait iş yükü
arttı. Fakülte sekreterlikleri ileride yoğunluğun oluşabileceğini aktarırken, genel sekreter
Levent Gökçeer, uygulamanın daha kaliteli ve
hızlı hizmet verilmesi için değiştirildiğini söyledi. Oasis'in denetimi ise artık öğrenci işlerine
değil fakültelere ait .
Bu durum oasis'i nasıl etkiledi?
Önceki sistemde dersler öğrenci işleri tarafından planlanıyordu, fakülteler bu durumdan
rahatsızdı şimdi fakülteler kendi programlarını
yapıyorlar. Bizim için daha kolay oluyor. Mesela japonca dersi yüzünden çok sıkıntı yaşamıştık. Çünkü japonca dersinin hocası dışardan
geliyor ve dersin saati sabit. Biz bölümlere
japonca dersi gören öğrencileriniz varsa o saate
ders koymayın diye mesaj attık fakat bize geri
dönüş yapılmadı. Bu problemin sorumlusu
tabii ki bizleriz. Belki de her öğrencinin ders
programına tek tek bakmalıydık. Ama
artık öğrencilerimizin mağdur olmaması için elimizden geleni yapacağız.

The students who can’t graduate on time due to the courses they couldn’t select want
Oasis and course selection system to be fixed. We interviewed the Vice Rector Ayla Oğuş
Binatlı about the Oasis system and its problems.
Double Major Courses to Overlap
Again
Binatlı stated that the students taking studio courses are the ones who face with this
problem the most. “In spite of lots of alternatives, studio students taking courses for
long hours had difficulty while selecting
their courses. We will work closer with the
departments and sort out the problem.” Noting that the foreign language courses will
be steady and the other department courses
will comply with them, Binatlı remarked
that the foreign language courses will be
on the same hours from now on; therefore
the double major students and the ones
repeating their grades will find out what
the course hours are in advance. Stating
that these regulations have just started, Vice
Rector said “We haven’t completed the learning and optimization process yet. We are
trying to set up a system that will get better
and better in each term”. Noting that no
matter how well the system is set up, there
is a very slight possibility that the double
major courses don’t overlap; Binatlı said
“We may guarantee that the students who
retake a course or take a course beforehand
won’t face with the problem of overlapping
courses but we can’t guarantee this for the
double major students”. One of the double
major students Hasan Deniz Çizmeci
emphasized that he complains about the
overlapping courses and said “I have to take
my courses at summer school because of the
overlapping courses. This situation creates
ambiguity. Maybe in the last semester, the
school will prolong for one more year. And
I believe they will figure it out somehow”.
We're Working For a Better System
Noting that the problem about the Japanese
courses results from the part time lecturers,
Vice Rector pointed out that this is the
reason why the hours of the course will be
steady and said that they sent the departments a message that if any of their students
take Japanese course, do not schedule a course at the steady hours but the departments
ignored the message. Saying that this is also
their mistake, Binatlı noted “Maybe we
should have checked each of their programs”.
Assuring that these problems will be sorted
out, Vice Rektor remarked that they will do
their best to fix the system. “Then, Student
Affairs planned all the courses, this disturbed the faculties and now they are planning
their own program” she said. In this term,
Izmir University of Economics Directorate
of Student Affairs was closed and instead
two departments as Registrar’s Office and
Education Planning and Coordination
Directorate were established. With the
new system, student secretaries’ workload
increased by 12 items. As the faculty secretaries state that there may be density in the
future, General Secretary Levent Gökçeer
remarked that it changed in order to serve
with more quality and more rapidly. There
will be less problems about the schedule
from now on because now Oasis belongs
to the faculties, not to the Directorate of
Student Affairs.

Pozitif Düşünme Yöntemleri
Ekonomi Üniversitesi Öğretim Görevlisi
Berrin Yangınözü derslerdeki ilk eğitimlerinin duyguları tanımak olduğunu söyledi.Eğitim süreci boyunca iletişim, empati
ve stres yönetimi konularında eğitim verileceğini belirten Berrin Yangınözü ’’Toplumun her kesiminde öfke patlamaları
yaşanmakta,öfke aniden gerçekleşen bir
duygu değil öfkeyi oluşturan belirli sebepler var.Bu süreçte bireyler duygularını
tanıyarak olaylara daha farklı bakabilme
yeteneği kazanıyor.Kursiyerlerin kendilerini başkalarının yerine koyarak ben değil
biz duygusunu kazanmalarını amaçlıyoruz. Böylece hem kursiyerlerin hayatları
kolaylaşıyor hem de kurumun verimliliği
artıyor. Bu eğitimlerde vermeye çalıştıklarımızı sadece iş hayatlarında değil günlük yaşantımızada yansıtırsak stressiz ve
öfkesini kontrol edebilen bireyler olarak

Demirtaş, stres ve öfke kontrolünü içeren
ve daha çok psikolojik yönü ağır basan
3 yıllık bir eğitim çalışması yapacaklarını belirterek şunları kaydetti: “Bizim
üniversite olarak en büyük amacımız,
yaşam boyu öğrenme noktasında içinde
bulunduğumuz topluma katkı sağlamak.
Bu eğitimin günlük hayatta geri dönüşü olacağına inanıyoruz. Bu eğitimle
ESHOT’ta çalışan idari personel ve
şoförlerimiz, günlük hayatta karşılaştıkları zorlukları daha rahat aşacaklar. Çünkü
gerçekten çok stresli bir iş yapıyorlar.
Birçok kesimden insanla bir araya geliyorlar. Bu eğitimde en önemli amacımız hem
onların hayatını kolaylaştırmak, hem de
kurumun işini rahatlatmak.”
It's aimed for the project which is
conducted by the partnership of İzmir
University of Economics Continuous
Education Center (EKOSEM) and
ESHOT to be carried out for a 3-year
period. The trainees state that taking
classes in university rooms is a very
different experience. The trainees
buy the books their lecturer Berrin
Yangınözü suggests them and practice
every advice Yangınözü gives. The only
woman participant, Gülten Tavşancı,
states that she tells people what she
learns in classes and tries to convince
others to also live a peaceful life. We
interviewed some of the trainees and
the course lecturer Berrin Yangınöz.
Methods of Positive Thinking
Izmir University of Economics lecturer Berrin Yangınöz says that the first
training in the course is to recognize
emotions. Yangınözü says that empathy,

will be discussed during
the training process.
"In all parts of society,
outbursts are experienced
and these do not occur
out of nowhere but have
some specific reasons.
In this process, individuals recognize their
emotions and gain the
ability to observe events
differently. We aim for
the trainees to learn
how to put themselves
in other people's shoes
and acquire the sense of
'us'. This way, while the
trainees' lives become
easier the efficiency of
companies also increase.
If we practice the things
we learn in classes not
only at work but also
in our lives we will be
individuals who has no
stress and can control
their anger."Another trainee, Aytekin Çilli, stated
that the classes are very
beneficial for work. "Because of our job, we're
constantly in contact with many people.
We have a very busy and stressful work
schedule. During these classes we learn
the methods of positive thinking while
communicating with people and acquire
the ability to solve problems we may
face without giving in to our anger and
using empathy." The Principal of Izmir

Demirtaş pointed out that the 3 year
long project will mostly be psychological
and will focus on stress and anger management. "Our main goal as a University
is to contribute to our society in the
scope of continuous education. We believe that this course will reflect to daily
life. Thanks to the lessons, the drivers
and administrators in ESHOT will find
it easier to cope with everyday problems.
They indeed have a very stressful job.
They communicate with people from
many different parts of society. Our main
goal in this project is to make their lives
easier and also help their company."
İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi'nin ABD'de yer alan Boston Üniversitesiyle imzaladığı anlaşma sayesinde okulumuz öğrencileri yaz döneminde
Boston Üniversitesinde eğitim görme hakkına sahip olacak. Öğrenciler, 29 Haziran-7 Ağustos 2015 tarihleri boyunca sürecek programda çeşitli
derslere kayıtlanabilecek ve bu derslerden başarılı olmaları durumunda İEÜ'deki eşdeğer derslerden muaf olabilecekler. Boston Üniversitesi,
öğrencilerimiz için öğrenim ücretinde %15 indirim yapacak. Katılmak isteyen öğrenciler başvurularını 30 Nisan 2015 tarihine kadar İEÜ
Uluslararası İlişkiler Ofisi’ne yapabilirler.
IUE students will have the right to study at Boston University in US during the summer term due to the agreement signed between
Izmir University of Economics and Boston University. IUE students will be able to enroll various courses and they will be exempted
from these courses provided that they are successful. The program will last between June 29, 2015 and August 7, 2015. There will be
15% discount in tuition fees for our students. Students who want to participate this program can apply to IUE Office at International
Affairs until April 30,2015.

tarafından oluşturulan ‘Mutlu Cezaevleri’ projesi
devam ediyor. Cezaevlerinde bulunan mahkumların
hayatlarına kitap toplayarak katkıda bulunmak
isteyen Hukuk Kulübü üyeleri, 10 Şubat’tan beri bu
projeyi sürdürüyor

contribute to the lives of convicts in prisons with
books have been maintaining the project since
February 10th

In the scope of the project launched by
Izmir University of Economics Law Club
in the framework of social responsibility,
students aims to collect books for convicts
in prisons so that they can still connect to
the outside world. Project called “Happy
Prisons” draws attention by the oppositeness of concepts of punishment and
happiness, the club aims to raise awareness
to this project by using this oppositeness.

osyal sorumluluk çerçevesinde İzmir
Ekonomi Üniversitesi Hukuk Kulübü
tarafından başlatılan projede öğrenciler, cezaevlerinde bulunan mahkumlar
için kitap toplayıp, mahkumların dışarıdaki
hayatla bağlarının devamını sağlayabilmeyi
amaçlıyor. ‘Mutlu Cezaevleri’ adıyla devam
eden proje, ceza-mutluluk kavramlarındaki
tezatlığıyla dikkat çekerken kulüp, bu tezatlığı
kullanarak projenin farkındalığını arttırmayı
hedefliyor.

Kampanyayı her sene farklı bir cezaevi
için kitap toplayarak devam ettireceklerini
söyleyen Hukuk Kulübü başkanı Salih Baz,
cezaevlerindeki mahkumların sosyal açıdan
kendilerini geliştirmeleri gerektiğini söylerken,
projenin çıkış aşamasını şu şekilde anlatıyor:
“Hukuk Fakültesi kulübü olduğumuz için
sosyal sorumluluk projeleri geliştirmeliydik

olan Umut Emre Çınar, 7 Mart'ta Çınar Haber Ajansı'nın
(ÇIHA) açılışını yaptı. Üniversitede başladığı bitirme
projesini geliştirerek kurduğu ajans hakkında konuştuk

on March 7th.We interviewed Çınar about his agency
which he established by developing his senior project

Çınar answered our questions about his
agency. Çınar stated that the social network UniqueKampus.com.tr which was
established by university students was
the project which led the way to the
establishment of the agency. Currently,
there are four full time employees as
well as many part time reporters. Çınar
stated that everything is going really
well and said "Everyone is doing their
part and I think we are a very strong
team. For us, news are above anything
and everything." ÇIHA states that they
approach every subject realistically
and their aim is to build themselves
a place in Izmir media without being
biased and considering ethics. They
also mentioned that they will work on

Not wanting to consider being convicted as being detached from life, students
have been conducting the “Happy
Prisons” Project for 2 months to make

for people in prisons with the books
they collect. Stating that they are only
in touch with Buca Prison for now as
the project has just launched, Baz says
that the warden is also positive about
this project. Noting that the donations
from school library a nd students were
being received, they will pay a visit as a
whole club and deliver the books. The
chairman of the club remarks that they
want to improve the project which is
now only around the Aegean Region
and they will continue to carry out this
project in the future.

a level where I can give advice or make
suggestions to students, however I
want to tell them to do everything they
can just to prove discouraging people

not succeed. Setting goals is very easy,
what's important to achieve those goals. Considering all the difficulties we
may encounter in the future, I'm now
experiencing the joy of establishing
ÇIHA. I hope that all of my friends
stand on their ground and keep going
until they achieve their goals."

‘Dünya Barışına Akademik Destek
Sağlıyoruz’
İEÜ Rektörü Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen de,
üniversitenin Fen ve Edebiyat Fakültesi
Dekanlığı tarafından Bartholomeos’un
barış ve kardeşliğin tesisi yönünde
yaptığı hizmetler ve dinler arasındaki
diyaloğun geliştirilmesi konularındaki
katkılarından dolayı onursal doktor
unvanı verilmesini teklif edildiğini,
kararın Üniversite Senatosu tarafından
kabul edildiğini belirtti. Dünya genelinde dini ve etnik çatışmaların hızla
arttığını vurgulayan Prof. Dr. Esen,
“Türkiye, dünyadaki farklı toplumlar
gibi, dinler ve etnik kimlikler arası tahammülsüzlük ile diyalog eksikliğinden
zarar görmektedir. Üniversite olarak,
bu tehlikeli eğilime karşı durmak için
elimizden geleni yapmaktayız. İzmir’in
kozmopolit, çok kültürlü mirası üzerine
inşa edilen İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi,
kuruluşundan bu yana demokratik ve
çok kültürlü toplum ilkelerini desteklemiştir” dedi.
Patrik'ten barış ve birlik mesajı: Patrik
doktora törende diploması aldığı törende; Patrikhanemizin girşindeki mozaikte ilk Patrik elini uzatmış,Fatih Sultan
Mehmet'ten Ortodoks Kilise'ni koruma
altına alan fermanı alıyor. Dinler arası
bağlığın sembolüdür bu imge.
Barış İmkânsız Değil’
İçinde bulunulan yüzyılın kardeşlik ve
dayanışma çağı olması gerektiğini anlatan Bartholomeos, bunun din katkısı
olmadan başarılamayacağını vurguladı.
Diyaloğun radikalizmin panzehri olduğunu aktaran Bartholomeos, barışın
imkânsız olmadığını ifade etti.
Sözlerini kutsayarak bitirdi
Salondaki öğrenci ve akademisyenlere de seslenen Bartholomeos, şunları
söyledi:“İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi’nin
sevgili öğrencileri: Birbirinizin gözlerinin içine bakmak, aydınlık bir gelecek
için cesaret ve ilham almak, umutlanmak demektir. Seçkin profesörler; kutsal
göreviniz, öğrencilerinize açıklık ruhunu
aktarmaktır. Bu buluşma için teşekkürlerimizi ve onursal doktora unvanına layık
görmeniz dolayısıyla sizlere minnettarız.
Tanrı hepinizi kutsasın” dedi. Tören
sonunda Bartholomeos'a onursal doktora
ünvanı verildi ve doktora atkısı takıldı.
Atkıyı İEÜ Moda Tasarım ve Tekstil Tasarımı Bölümü öğretim üyeleri ve öğrencileri, tasarladı.

of Izmir Regional Courts of Justice, Serpil
Alpman, Izmir Representative of Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, Işınsu Kestelli, Chairperson of Izmir Commodity Exchange,
Theodoros Tsakiris, Consul General of
Greece in Izmir, Geza Dologh, President
of the Assembly of Chamber of Marine
Commerce, IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz
Esen, San Synod Representatives, members of clergy, guests, academicians, and
students attended.
Ekrem Demirtaş said in the ceremony,
“His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I who accepted our
Honorary Doctorate degree is a highly
important person. He is not only a
spiritual leader of 300 million Orthodox Christians. He is also a world
leader who works hard for to establish
interfaith dialogues, human rights,
and world peace.
‘Academic Support to the World
Peace’
IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Oğuz Esen pointed out that the honorary doctorate
degree was proposed by the Faculty of
Arts and Sciences for Bartholomew’s
contributions and services to peace and
society, and for improving interfaith
dialogue, and that the proposal was accepted by the University Senate. Prof.
Dr. Esen emphasized that religious and
ethnic conf licts worldwide increased
rapidly and said, “Turkey, like different societies in the world, suffers from
interreligious and interethnic intolerance and the lack of dialogue. As a
University, we are doing our best for to
stand against this dangerous tendency.
Izmir University of Economics was
built on the cosmopolitan and multi-cultural heritage of Izmir and has
been supporting democratic and multicultural society principles since its
foundation.
Peace and unity message from Patriarch Bartholomew: Patriarch who was
awarded with honorary degree in the
ceremony said, “In the mosaic placed
in our Patriarchate, the first Patriarch
takes the edict which takes Orthodox
Church under preservation from Fatih
the Conqueror. This image is the
symbol of interfaith loyalty.
‘Peace is not impossible’
Bartholomew stated that the century
we live in should be a century of fraternity and solidarity and this would
not be achieved without the contribution of religion. He pointed out that
dialogue is the antidote of radicalism
and that peace is not impossible.
‘He Ended His Speech by His Blessings’
Bartholomew who also addressed the
students and academicians in the
hall said: “Dear students of the Izmir
University of Economics: Looking into
each other’s eyes means taking courage and inspiration for a bright future.
Distinguished Professors; your sacred
task is to transmit the spirit of openness to your students. We are thankful
for this meeting and grateful for your
deeming honorary doctorate degree.
God bless you all.”
At the end of the ceremony, Bartholomew was awarded with the honorary
degree and shawled doctorate scarf.
The scarf was designed and created by
IUE Department of Fashion and Textile Design lecturers and students.
The second Hak ve Emek (The Right and Labour)
Themed Cinema Days were held between 9-15 March
at French Cultural Centre with the motto “You know
exactly what kind of spirit this is.”
