Area Sports Shorts
Big success for corrections officers
PLATTSBURGH — The four area correction officers
who made the trip to Ohio State University recently for the
National Police Olympics returned home a day ago with
some impressive results.
Rusty Bigelow, a counselor at Clinton Correctional Facility, competed in golf and won a gold medal in the partners
and a silver in the singles event.
In the Master's Division, Ron Coleman took a silver in
the 4x400 relay and a bronze in the decathlon.
Butch Proctor, who nearly won the gold, ended up taking
the silver medal in the 225-pound arm wrestling competition while Mike Lavigne barely missed out on a medal,
finishing fourth in the 10K run.
A total of 38 states and six foreign countries competed in
the event,
Slo-pitch tourney scheduled for Aug. 24
SCIOTA — The Altona Bombers of the Champlain Valley
Baseball League will sponsor a slo-pitch softball tournament Aug. 24 at the Sciota softball fields. There will be
both men's and women's divisions. Entry fee is $50. Prize
money will depend on the number of teams entered.

Medium-pitch tourney to be held
KEESEVILLE — The Keeseville VFW will sponsor a
double-elimination medium-pitch tournament Aug. 23-24.
Based on 10 teams, first place will be worth $400. Entry fee

Bowling league to meet Aug. 20
PLATTSBURGH - The Genesee $1,000 North Bowl
Classic will hold a meeting Aug. 20 at North Bowl Lanes,

Soronac soccer team to practice
SARANAC — Air candidates for the Saranac girls soccer
teams will begin practice for the upcoming season Aug. 20
