We have some news of live performances coming up over the coming days in Kalkan, Kaş and
Yeşilköy.
Sugar Babes is the name of a play being put on by a Dutch theatre group in conjunction with
local residents.
It is a comedy set in a boarding house for retired opera singers. The men and women of the
house get on well, but when the manager in charge gets a letter from the government saying
that men are no longer allowed to live in the home, the residents have to come up with a plan to
thwart the new rules. That's when the fun begins.
Performances are free to watch and last about 40 minutes. Everyone is welcome so why not go
along.
The director is Bob van der Lugt, from Rotterdam. Bob runs the Hayal Creative Workshops,
where individuals can sign up to develop their performance skills. The group visiting Kalkan this
week, signed up for such a course, which included this special overseas trip.
Kalkan regulars will know that this Dutch group have performed here many times. Their first
performance was in 2006 at the Mediteran Hotel.
Bob told Kalkan Turkish Local News, "This is 'community art'. It is important because it brings
people together, working creatively for a common goal". He added, "It is all about getting the
best out of individuals, enabling them to achieve great things".
The play uses both English and Turkish languages plus there is lots of music and movement,
so people of all nationalities can easily follow the plot.

- Saturday 9th May: in Kalkan: Performance #1: 20.30 at Fener Cafe. Performance #2:
23.00 at Botanik Garden Bar.
- Sunday 10th May: in Kaş: 20.30 Çay Bahçesi
