Kant’s Antinomies: A Logical Point of View

In the Critique of Pure Reason (1781/1787), Immanuel Kant attempted to
answer some fundamental cosmological questions about the universe by
means of reason alone. Nowadays, Kant’s attitude is no longer embraced
by
cosmologists.
Current
cosmological
wisdom
dictates
that
questions
regarding the size of the universe, for example, can only be settled
by means of empirical
research. In my talk, following Kant, I will
first
question
the
legitimacy
of
the
concept
‘universe’,
and
then
I
will
attempt
to
enlighten
Kant’s
position
with
the
help
of
formal
logic.
