Prof. Hasan Arslan – IASSR President
Prof. Fred Dervin – University of Helsinki, Finland
Presentation Title: The ‘intercultural’ in the media and art
Fred Dervin is Professor of Multicultural Education at the University of Helsinki
(Finland). Dervin also holds several professorships in Canada, Luxembourg and
Malaysia. In May 2014 he was appointed Distinguished Professor at Baoji University of
Arts and Sciences (China). Prof. Dervin specializes in intercultural education, the
sociology of multiculturalism and student and academic mobility. Dervin has widely
published in international journals on identity, the ‘intercultural’ and
mobility/migration. He has published over 20 books: Politics of Interculturality (coedited with Anne Lavanchy and Anahy Gajardo, Newcastle: CSP, 2011), Impostures
Interculturelles (Paris: L’Harmattan, 2012) and Linguistics for Intercultural Education
(co-edited with Tony Liddicoat, New York: Benjamins). He is the series editor of
Education beyond borders (Peter Lang), Nordic Studies on Diversity in Education (with
Kulbrandstad and Ragnarsdóttir; CSP) and Post-intercultural communication and
education (CSP).
Prof. Georgeta Rata – USAMVBT, Romania
Presentation Title: Civilizations and Languages in Contact: Turkish and Romanian
Georgeta RATA currently works as a Professor at the BUASVM of Timisoara (Romania).
She has a BA and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Bucharest (Romania). She
participates in the project Languages and Cultures in Time and Space carried out in
Serbia. She published textbooks and dictionaries in Croatia, Romania, Serbia, and
United Kingdom. She authored Contributions to the Theory of Communication (Mirton,
2001), edited Language Education Today: Between Theory and Practice (CSP, 2009),
Teaching Foreign Languages: Languages for Special Purposes (CSP, 2010), and Academic
Days of Timisoara: Language Education Today (CSP, 2011), and co-edited Social Sciences
Today: Between Theory and Practice (CSP, 2010), Academic Days of Timisoara: Social
Sciences Today (CSP, 2011), Compendium of Forage Technical Terms in English, French
and Romanian (CSP, 2012), Agricultural English (CSP, 2012), and The English of
