Turkey Summons Russian Envoy
Over Bombing of Turkmen
Saturday November 21, 2015
TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTRY HAS OBJECTED TO A GROUND
OFFENSIVE LAUNCHED BY SYRIAN AND RUSSIAN AIR FORCES ON
TURKMEN VILLAGES IN SYRIA
ANKARA (AA) - Turkey has summoned Russia’s ambassador to Ankara
over the recent bombing of Turkmen
villages in Syria, the Turkish Foreign
Ministry said Friday.
Syrian regime forces backed by Russian air forces launched a ground offensive on the predominantly Turkmen villages in Bayir Bucak area in
northwestern
Latakia
province
Thursday, according to local sources.
“Within this framework, Russia’s ambassador to Ankara, Andrey Karlov,
has been summoned to our ministry
upon the instruction of our Minister [Feridun Sinirlioglu], where he
was told that the Russian acts are not
geared towards fighting terror, but
bombing civilian Turkmen villages,
which could lead to serious consequences,” Turkish Foreign Ministry
spokesman Tanju Bilgic said in a
statement Friday.
Turkey has requested Russia to
promptly end this operation, Bilgic
said, adding that “our warnings and
request have also been communicated
to Russian deputy foreign minister,
and special presidential representative
for the Middle East, Mihail Bogdanov.”
The clashes between regime forces
and opposition lasted until late hours
of Thursday and left a number of
people dead from both sides, the local
sources said, adding that early Friday,
regime forces began sporadic shelling
that targeted the opposition and several villages.
Aburrahman Mostafa, Syrian Turkmen Council’s chief, said: “Russia
stands behind the attacks and its main
goal is seizing as much territory as
possible to strengthen Assad’s position during the political transitional
period.”
The Turkmen-majority area is about
to fall to regime forces which may
cause 15,000 Turkmen to flee to Turkey, Mokhtar Fatih Mohamed, head
of Turkmen doctors group in Bayir
Bucak region, told Anadolu Agency
Friday.
Turkmen are a Turkic ethnic group
based largely in Syria and Iraq, where
they live alongside large Arab and
Kurdish populations. The Turkmen
community, which includes both
Sunni and Shia Muslims, shares close
cultural ties with the Turkish people.
Syria’s devastating civil war, now in
its fifth year, has left some 250,000
people dead, according to the UN,
and the country remains divided
between various heavily-armed factions.

ISTANBUL (AA) – Islamic
finance is based on growth of
assets, not financial engineering, and this organic growth
makes it different from Western debt constructs, Justice and Development (AK)
Party parliamentarian and
economist has said. Ibrahim
Turhan, member of Turkish
parliament for AK Party from
Izmir, made the remarks in
an interview with Anadolu
Agency on the sidelines of the
Second International Islamic
Finance and Economics conference in Istanbul on Thursday.
Turhan, who is also an economist and former chief executive officer of Borsa Istanbul,
said: “One of the principal
causes of financial crisis of
2008-2009 was the vast market that had grown up for securitized instruments.

APPEARS TO SHOW GREEK

DINGHY BOAT PACKED WITH
SYRIAN NATIONALS
ANKARA (AA) - A video released Friday appears
to show Greek coast guards
puncturing a dinghy boat
with a sharp object earlier in
November in the Aegean Sea.
Video footage released by
Turkey’s Office of Public Diplomacy on Friday shows a
sea vessel numbered LS-060,
belonging to the Greek coast
guard, approach the dinghy
carrying refugees, reportedly on Nov. 12.
An officer then seems to
puncture the boat with a
lance. The Greek forces then
appear to rush away from the
scene immediately.
The Turkish Coast Guard
then rescued the 58 Syrian
nationals to take them to
the port of Didim in Western Turkey, according to the
Turkish Office of Public Diplomacy. At least 3,138 refugees have died crossing the
Mediterranean Sea so far this
year, according to the International Organization for Migration.

in Europe via the Mediterranean is now over 640,000

“These involve debt which is
made to seem less risky using
insurance or derivatives, so
that the relationship between
the debtor and the debt is
no longer direct. Because it
broke down that relationship,
the quality of securitized instruments deteriorated.”
Islamic finance, on the other
hand, used instruments based
on actual assets, so the quality of the instrument cannot
be changed, Turhan said. In
his speech to the conference,
Turhan said that preserving
the direct relationship between debtor and creditor is
part of the moral approach of
Islamic finance.
“Profit sharing and risk sharing in Islamic finance provides a much more secure....
