ZEYD BIN HARISE
There is a very handsome young man called Zeyd.
He has average height and has black eyes, black as
a pair of olives. He is always happy and is known as
a very helpful young man in his home town.
Zeyd’s parents decide to visit their relatives who
live in another city. Zeyd is thrilled because he enjoyes
visiting his relatives. Because he is very excited, he
starts preparations for the journey immediately.

As they set for their journey, Zeyd chooses to ride
his camel ahead of everyone else. Zeyd admires his
surroundings and the beauty of nature.
Zeyd sees people from different villages, he sees
flowing rivers, shepherds, birds, trees and camels. He
has fun while travelling and is continuously singing
songs on his camelback.
Then this pleasurable and joyful journey takes a
turn for the worst. Their camels attract the attention of
thieves in the desert.

The thieves take all their camels, valuables and
kidnappes Zeyd. Zeyd’s mother and father are shocked
and devastates.
Where will they find Zeyd now? They look for Zeyd
everywhere but nobody can find him. After searching,
Zeyd’s mother and father have no choice but to return
back to their home and wait. There is absolutely
nothing they can do.

The next day, the thieves take Zeyd to the “slave
bazaar”. It is far away from Zeyd’s home town, a slave
bazaar called Ukaz. It is a very popular slave bazaar in
Arabia. There are children and young men and women
there forcefully being sold as slaves.
The owners of slaves are shouting, “Come over
here, I have strong slaves”. There are big platforms
and the slaves are standing on them ready for show.
The owners stand behind the platforms and yelling,
“My slave is the best one”. The slaves do not have any
rights and only do what owner wants them to do.

Hatice is from a very wealthy family. She is a widow
but also the richest women in Mecca. Hatice goes to
the bazaar to buy a slave that day. As she is walking
around the bazaar, she sees a young boy standing,
on one the platform. He seems very sad and shy. She
goes near to him and askes;

“What is your name?”
“My name is Zeyd.” He said.
“What is your father’s name?” asked Hatice.
“His name is Harise” replied Zeyd.
“Where are you from?” asked Hatice.
“I am from Yemen.” Said Zeyd.
“Which tribe are you from?” she asked.
“I am from the Kudaa tribe.” answered Zeyd.
“Are you hungry?” asked Hatice.
Zeyd says “Yes, but I do not want to be a slave. I
miss my mummy and daddy.”

Hatice buys Zeyd from his owner in the slave
bazaar. She orders him food and buys him nice
clothes. Zeyd starts a new life with his owner Hatice
now. Hatice treats him very well, respects him and
never upsets him.
As a result Zeyd does what she needs and helps
her with household chores.
After Hatice gets married with our prophet
(P.B.U.H) she hands Zeyd over to our prophet
(P.B.U.H) as a present. Even though, Zeyd is very
happy with Hatice, as soon as he sees our prophet
(P.B.U.H), he admires him.
Prophet Muhammed (P.B.U.H) grants Zeyd with
freedom. He does not want him to be a slave anymore
but a young friend along with him. Muhammed
(P.B.U.H) takes Zeyd under his protection.

Although Zeyd is kidnapped and sold as a slave,
he ended up blessed to have become Muhammed’s
(P.B.U.H) helper. But on the other hand, Zeyd’s parents
are still looking for Zeyd everywhere in Yemen.
At that time, it is declared that, Muhammed (P.B.U.H)
is the last prophet to save humanity.

A few people around Muhammed (P.B.U.H) accept
this new faith without hesitation, as they always
know Muhammed (P.B.U.H) to never lie and is the most
reliable person in Mecca.
The first Muslim to dedicate to Islam is Hatice.
Then, the first child is Ali, who accepts Muhammed’s
(P.B.U.H) new faith. Zeyd is the first slave, who believes
in Muhammed (P.B.U.H) and also becomes a Muslim.
After such a long time, Zeyd’s parents and relatives
hear that he is living a safe and wonderful life in Mecca
and so they go to Mecca to find him.

On a glorious morning while Zeyd is gardening, he
hears someone calls for him. Zeyd is surprised to see
that, they are his relatives.
“Oh my son! I cannot believe my eyes, come back
home. I will pay to your owner whatever he asks for
you” says his dad.
Zeyd begins to cry and he can not say anything. Just
then, Muhammed (P.B.U.H) approaches Zeyd relatives
and welcomes them. He lookes at Zeyd and says;
“You can go with them if you want. You are free now;
I do not want any money for you”.
Zeyd says to his parents;

“I swear to Allah that I admire my prophet Muhammed
(P.B.U.H). I believe his faith. I do not want to leave him.
Please do not insist, I want to stay with him”.
His parents are shocked but also delighted for Zeyd,
they accept his answer and go back to Yemen, leaving
him with the last prophet Muhammed (P.B.U.H).
