Auburn is 13-19 all-time on CBS.
ALL AUBURN, ALL ORANGE
In August, Auburn University announced
the introduction of "All Auburn, All Orange", a
program established to create unity and spirit
among the Auburn student body, alumni, fans
and student-athletes at sporting events
throughout the school year.
One home game during each sport season will be designated as the "All Auburn, All
Orange" event. At each designated event, fans
will be encouraged to wear orange.
The program will begin this weekend with
the Auburn-LSU football game and continue
through the spring sports season.
A specially designed "All Auburn, All
Orange" t-shirt is now available at Auburn
area retail outlets, as well as on-line at
http://www.auburnonlinemall.com. Shirts will
also be available outside Jordan-Hare
Stadium prior to the LSU games.
www.auburntigers.com
Five percent of the revenue from each
shirt sold will benefit Tiger Habitat, the Habitat
for Humanity program at Auburn University.
The Tiger Habitat program challenges Auburn
University students to complete a Habitat for
Humanity home every other year.
HAPPY 50TH, TOMMY
Head coach Tommy Tuberville will celebrate his 50th birthday Saturday. Born on
September 18, 1954, Tuberville has enjoyed
success on his birthday while at Auburn. The
Tigers are 2-0 on September 18, under
Tuberville, winning at Mississippi State in
2002, 42-14, and at LSU in 1999, 41-7.
AUBURN-LSU SERIES NOTES
A combined 48 points or more have been
scored between the two teams in seven of the
last 12 meetings ... The visiting team won four
consecutive games from 1996-99 ... The winning team posted shutouts in nine of the first
11 meetings in the series ... Dating back to
1973, only five of the 17 meetings have been
decided by 14 points or more ... Four of the
last 10 games have been decided by a touchdown or less ... This is the longest sustained
meeting between the two schools, 13 consecutive years, eclipsing nine straight years from
1934-42 ... In six of the last seven games, the
winning team has scored at least 31 points ...
Auburn’s secondary has picked off 17 passes
in the Tigers’ last five wins over LSU, including
six in 1994.
LOUISIANA TIGERS
The 2004 Auburn roster contains four
players who call Louisiana home. That list
includes: So. TE Kyle Derozan (Morganza), Fr.
TE Ernest Norman (New Orleans), Fr. RB
Jerald Watson (Morgan City, LA), and So. WR
Craig Williams (New Orleans).
THREE LOUISIANA FOES
Auburn plays three of its 11 games this
season against schools from the state of
Louisiana.
In fact, the Tigers will play all
three, Louisiana-Monroe (Sept. 4), LSU (Sept.
18) and Louisiana Tech (Oct. 9) in their first six
contests. The Tigers defeated ULM, 31-0, two
weeks ago.
The last time Auburn played three schools
from one state was in 1992 when it played
Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Southern Miss.
AUBURN-LSU CONNECTIONS
` Auburn
quarterbacks coach Steve
Ensminger was a quarterback at LSU from
1976-79 and graduated from LSU in
1982. Ensminger was born in Baton
Rouge.
` Former Auburn quarterback Dameyune
Craig (1994-97) is in his first year as a
2004 AUBURN FOOTBALL
graduate assistant at LSU. Craig is third
all-time at Auburn in passing yardage
(6,026), pass attempts (782), pass completions (427), and touchdown passes
(39).
` LSU offensive line coach Stacey Searels
was an All-America offensive lineman at
Auburn in 1987. Searels played at Auburn
from 1984-87 and was a graduate assistant on the Plains from 1992-93.
` Two former Auburn assistant coaches are
currently a part of head coach Nick
Saban’s staff at LSU. They include offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach
Jimbo Fisher (AU quarterbacks coach,
1993-98) and defensive coordinator Will
Muschamp (AU graduate assistant, 199597).
` LSU Assistant AD/Football Operations Dr.
Sam Nadar was a quarterback at Auburn
from 1963-67. Nadar received his undergraduate degree from Auburn in 1967
and his master’s from AU in 1969.
RANKINGS IN THE SERIES
The game between Auburn and LSU will
mark the 16th time in the series that one or
both of the schools has been ranked in the
Associated Press poll. It will also be the 10
time in the last 11 meetings (since 1994) that
one or both have been ranked entering the
game. Since 1994, Auburn has been ranked
in nine of the games (except 1999 and 2002),
while LSU has been ranked seven times
(1996-98, 2001-04).
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS
Five of the 10 meetings in the AuburnLSU series from 1988-1997 were decided by
less than a touchdown. And, like all good
Southern football series, those games have
earned memorable titles. Examples:
1988: LSU scored with 1:41 remaining to
down fourth-ranked Auburn, 7-6. The noise
from the Tiger Stadium crowd registered on a
campus seismograph, thus earning the contest
the title of “Earthquake Game.”
1994: Auburn returned three of its five
fourth-quarter interceptions for touchdowns to
rally from a two-touchdown deficit and win
30-26. Auburn and LSU fans alike still recall
the “Interception Game.”
1995: Wearing the traditional white jerseys at home for the first time in 13 years, LSU
stunned fifth-ranked Auburn, 12-6, when Troy
Twillie intercepted Patrick Nix’s 11-yard pass
into the end zone with no time remaining. The
1997 LSU media guide referred to this game
under the heading “Bring Back The Magic.”
1996: “The Night The Barn Burned” will
long be remembered on the Plains. As the old
Auburn Sports Arena burned just outside
Jordan-Hare Stadium, LSU defeated Auburn
19-15. After missing three field goals and an
extra point, Auburn cut LSU’s lead to 17-15
with :38 remaining, but Jon Cooley’s twopoint pass attempt was picked off by Raion
Hill, who returned it the other way for two
points.
1997: Dameyune Craig led Auburn on
an 80-yard, 10-play drive in the game’s final
three minutes to deliver a 31-28 upset of
10th-ranked LSU in “The Comeback.” Rusty
Williams capped the drive on a one-yard
touchdown plunge with :30 remaining. LSU
attempted a 65-yard FG on the game’s final
play, but Quinton Reese blocked it to seal the
Auburn win.
In all, 16 of the 36 games played
between the two schools since 1901 have
been decided by a touchdown or less, with
LSU holding an 8-7-1 advantage in those
games.
NOT-SO CLOSE ENCOUNTERS
While Auburn and LSU played four consecutive games from 1994-97 that were all
decided by six points or less (4.3 ppg), the last
six meetings between the two have been anything but close. Since 1998, the closest margin of victory has been 12 points (LSU wins in
1998, 2001, 2003), while the average margin of victory during that time has been 20.5
points. Auburn beat LSU by 34 points in 1999,
17 points in 2000, and 24 points in 2002.
TUB VS. THE FIGHTING TIGERS
Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville is
5-4 against LSU as his squads have scored at
least 30 or more points in each of those wins.
Tuberville guided Ole Miss to victories over
LSU in 1997 at Baton Rouge (36-21) and
1998 in Oxford (37-31). In 1999, Tuberville’s
Auburn squad won at LSU, 41-7, and claimed
victories in Auburn in 2000 (34-17) and 2002
(31-7).
Tuberville coached teams have averaged
28.7 points (201 total) in the last seven games
against LSU, scoring at least 34 points in four
of those contests.
ON THIS DATE
Auburn is 6-2 all-time on September 18,
having last played on this date in 2002 when
the Tigers defeated Mississippi State, 42-14,
in Starkville.
The Tigers have won four consecutive
games on September 18, including wins over
LSU in Baton Rouge in 1999 (41-7) and 1993
(34-10). The last time Auburn has played a
home game on Sept. 18 was a 21-19 win
over Southern Miss in 1982.

IN SEPTEMBER
Auburn is 128-43-5 (.742) all-time in the
month of September, including a 18-4 mark
under Tommy Tuberville.
OVER THE CENTURY MARK
Carnell Williams has rushed for 100+
yards in each of the first two games of the season. Williams ran for 103 yards in the Tigers’
season-opening win over Louisiana-Monroe
and posted a 144-yard effort at Mississippi
State.
Williams now has 13 100-yard games in
his Auburn career, tying him with Joe Cribbs
(1976-79) for third all-time at Auburn. Bo
Jackson (1982-85) is the Auburn record holder with 21, followed by James Brooks (197780) with 15.
Williams has rushed for 100+ yards in
eight of his last 11 games (1,340).
YAC FOR THE CADILLIAC
Auburn’s leading rusher with 225 yards,
Tigers’ RB Carnell Williams has provided
plenty of second effort this season. A total of
185 of Williams’ 225 yards (82 percent) have
come after contact, including 96 of 103
against ULM and 100 of 122 against
Mississippi State.
PAIR IN TOP FOUR OF SEC STATS
Auburn’s running back combo of Carnell
Williams and Ronnie Brown are second and
fourth, respectively in the SEC in rushing.
Williams is second averaging 112.5 ypg,
while Brown is fourth with a 101.0 average.
QUICK STRIKES
Offensively, Auburn has found the end
zone in quick fashion, as nine of its 10 touchdown drives have come in under four minutes,
including three TD strikes of two minutes or
less.
O-LINE PAVES THE WAY
Auburn’s offensive line has paved the
way for the Tigers’ offense which is currently
second in the SEC and 19th nationally in
rushing yardage at 238.5 ypg.
The line has also provided outstanding
pass protection for quarterback Jason
Campbell, who has tossed five TDs and been
sacked only once.
DEFENSIVE LOCKDOWN
Auburn’s defense pitched a shutout the
first 118:37 of the season before allowing a
TD to Mississippi State with 1:23 remaining in
the game.
www.auburntigers.com
BRANDON’S BEGINNING
Redshirt freshman quarterback Brandon
Cox made his Auburn debut against
Louisiana-Monroe, completing 3-of-6 passes
for 76 yards. Cox also rushed for a 14-yard
touchdown in his first series and completed
his first career pass attempt, a 39-yard completion to Courtney Taylor.
Cox played in two fourth-quarter series
against Mississippi State, connecting on 5-of5 passing for 43 yards including a 7-yard TD
pass to Ben Obomanu.
As a sophomore in high school, Cox was
diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, a muscular
disorder in which nerves and muscles react
against each other.
The 2001 Alabama Mr. Football left the
Auburn program shortly after his arrival and
returned to the team in December 2002. Cox
was redshirted for the 2003 season and overcame a bout of double-vision caused by the
disease.
His climb to the No. 2 quarterback position emerged during the 2004 spring drills.
Former back-up Josh Sullivan left the team
prior to the first day of Spring Practice for the
AU baseball team, and Cox passed former
Tiger Kelcy Luke during the spring workouts,
securing the back-up slot.
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION
A total of 73 players received playing
time in the 31-0 win over Louisiana-Monroe
last weekend. Of the 73, 23 saw their first
action in an Auburn uniform.
Against Mississippi State, 66 of the 70
players on the travel roster received playing
time.
FIRST-TIME STARTS
Five players made their first career start in
the season opener. The five included: soph.
OG Ben Grubbs, senior C Jeremy Ingle,
frosh. DE Stanley McGlover, soph. LB Kevin
Sears, and senior LB Antarrious Williams.
In the 43-14 win at Mississippi State, DE
Marquies Gunn received his first career nod.
TUBERVILLE IN SIXTH SEASON
Tommy Tuberville is in his sixth season at
Auburn and his 10th as a head coach in the
Southeastern Conference. Tuberville has the
second-longest tenure in the SEC behind
Phillip Fulmer of Tennessee, who will coach
his 12th season.
Tuberville has amassed a record of 4024 in five-plus seasons at Auburn and an
overall mark of 65-44. He has led the Tigers
to four straight bowl appearances including
two wins in the last two seasons over
Wisconsin in the Gaylord Hotels Music City
Bowl presented by Bridgestone and Penn State
in the Capital One Bowl.
2004 AUBURN FOOTBALL
THE DECADE CLUB
In his 10th year as a head coach, Tommy
Tuberville has five assistant coaches who have
been with him all 10 years. That group
includes: defensive tackles/noseguard coach
Don Dunn, running backs/special teams
coach Eddie Gran, wide receivers coach
Greg Knox, offensive line coach Hugh Nall
and defensive ends coach Terry Price.
IRON MEN
Of Auburn’s 18 seniors, 10 have seen
time in 30 or more games in their careers.
Junior Rosegreen and Donnay Young lead the
list, playing in all 40 of the Tigers’ games during the last three-plus seasons. They are followed by Ronnie Brown (39), Carlos Rogers
(39), Jason Campbell (38), Derrick Graves
(37), Mayo Sowell (36), Silas Daniels (35), Jay
Ratliff (35), and Danny Lindsey (34).
Campbell, Lindsey and Rosegreen are

eclipses Tuberville’s other senior classes: 13 in
2003, 15 in 2002, 10 in 2001, 14 in 2000
and 14 in 1999.
The 2004 seniors include: RB Ronnie

Tiger Stadium (92,085) • Baton Rouge, La.
Matt Mauck threw two of his three touchdown passes in the first quarter as
ninth-ranked LSU jumped on No. 17 Auburn early and never looked back en route
to a 31-7 victory in front of 92,085 fans in Tiger Stadium.
Only 1:59 ticked off the clock before Mauck found Devery Henderson for a
64-yard touchdown pass to put the Bayou Bengals up seven. The play was LSU’s
sixth of the game.
Minutes later, receiver Michael Clayton took a screen pass and weaved
through Auburn defense for an 18-yard score and a 14-0 LSU lead. The play
capped a 52-yard drive that began after LSU’s Chad Lavalais stuffed Auburn’s
Carnell Williams on fourth-and-one.
Following another LSU stop, Skyler Green returned a Kody Bliss punt 44
yards to set up yet another short field for the home-standing Tigers. Alley Broussard
would punch it in from five yards outone play after running for 14 yards on a
fourth-and-one.
The defense kept Auburn in the game in the second quarter, allowing just 25
total yards, the fewest by an SEC opponent since Georgia had 25 in 2002. With
a little over a minute to go in the half as LSU tried to tack on another score, nose
guard DeMarco McNeil intercepted a Mauck pass at the Auburn 14. It was the
third interception of his career and marked the seventh-straight game Auburn has
forced a turnover.
Auburn’s best scoring opportunity of the first half came on the opening drive
of the second quarter.
Carnell Williams ran for 34

Jordan-Hare Stadium (80, 663) • Auburn, Ala.
Davis Wade Stadium (51,021) • Starkville, Miss.
Jason Campbell passed for two touchdowns and Carnell Williams
ran for 103 yards as Auburn shut out Louisiana-Monroe, 31-0, at
Jordan-Hare Stadium for both teams’ season opener.
Campbell, who passed for 110 yards on the strength of 11-of-18
passing, found Williams for a 9-yard score in the first, then connected
with Devin Aromashodu for a 32-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Williams ran 23 times, earning his 12th career 100-yard rushing
effort. Ronnie Brown ran seven times for 55 yards and one touchdown,
a 30-yard blast in the final moments of the third quarter to end Auburn’s
scoring day. The Tigers averaged 4.7 yards per rush en route to 194
yards overall on the day.
The Auburn defense held Louisiana-Monroe to just 99 yards passing
and 239 overall. Will Herring intercepted a pass for the fourth straight
game and Travis Williams forced his third career fumble. Pat Sims, playing in his first career game, forced his first fumble, recovered by another freshman, Tony Bell.
Auburn took a quick 17-0 lead, scoring on its first three possessions
of the game. Campbell took the Tigers on a seven-play drive, ending
with Williams’ first career passing touchdown.
John Vaughn, named the starter by head coach Tommy Tuberville
earlier in the week, connected on a 43-yard field goal with 3:54 remaining in the first quarter to put the Tigers up by 10.
On his sixth career play, Brandon Cox put Auburn up, 17-0, with a
14-yard touchdown run. The redshirt freshman led the Tigers on a 6-play
drive for the score, marching the team 71 yards. He found Courtney
Taylor for a 39-yard completion on the third play of the drive, the first of
Cox’s career.
