Değerli Dedeman Okurları,
Yepyeni bir sezonu karşıladığımız şu günlerde sonbaharın ılık ve kızıl manzarasında sokaklar
yeniden canlanmaya başladı. Sıcak bir yazı geride bırakarak nefes aldıran bu güzel mevsimde
bizler de sizlere birbirinden ilgi çekici konu başlıkları ile dinamik bir sayı hazırladık.
Yoğun bir tempoya merhaba dediğimiz sonbahar sayımız için değişime ve yenilenmeye layık
konular seçmeye çalıştık. Bu doğrultuda, Dedeman Oteller zincirimize bir yenisini daha eklemenin
heyecanını sizlerle paylaşmak isterim. Kasım ayında açılacak olan Dedeman Zonguldak ile
geleneksel Dedeman misafirperverliğimizi otelin avantajlı konumu ile misafirlerimize sunuyor
olacağız.
Bunun yanı sıra; Dedeman Konya Hotel & Convention Center Genel Müdürü Recep Altınok

Dear friends of Dedeman,
These days, as we’re greeting a brand new season, the streets are growing lively once again with
the warm and crimson view of fall. Leaving behind the heat of summer, we’ve prepared a dynamic
issue for you in this beautiful season with topics that are each more exciting than the next.
For our fall issue, in which we say ‘hello’ to an intense schedule, we tried to select topics that are
worthy of change and innovation. Accordingly, I would like to share with you the excitement of
adding a new hotel to our Dedeman Hotels chain. With Dedeman Zonguldak, which will open its
doors in November, we will offer our guests the traditional Dedeman hospitality with our hotel’s
advantageous location.
Additionally, I hope that you will enjoy reading the discussions we held with Dedeman Konya Hotel
& Convention Center General Manager Recep Altınok and experienced rally driver Volkan Işık. We
didn’t forget vacation-goers for the Feast of the Sacrifice that’s awaiting us in November, either.
Our feature includes various alternatives and many travel recommendations from Şanlıurfa to

ZAMAN KAPSÜLÜ’NDE KISA BİR YOLCULUK
Bruno Serralongue’un “Zaman Kapsülü” adlı sergisi, Ali Akay’ın küratörlüğünde 15 Eylül - 28 Ekim 2011 tarihleri
arasında Akbank Sanat’ta sanatseverlerle buluşuyor. Ülke ülke dolaşarak insanların hallerini, siyasal tartışmaları
ve küreselleşen dünyadaki tezatlıkları objektifinden bizlere ulaştıran Serralongue, fotoğraflarında bilgi vermekten
çok izleyicilerine anı yaşatma amacı taşıyor. Genelde ülkelerdeki ayaklanmalar, festivaller gibi önemli olayları
objektifine aktarmayı tercih ettiği için sanatçının fotoğraflarının belge niteliği taşıdığı söyleniyor. Ancak Serralongue
bunun doğru olmadığını, fotoğraflarını kendi bakış açısıyla çektiği için tarafsız bir nitelik taşımadıklarını söylüyor.
Ücretsiz olan bu bol “olayları anlatan” sergi, ülkemizde de oldukça konuşulacağa benziyor.

40 yılı aşan müzik kariyerinde 50 albümde imzası bulunan
Amerikalı caz gitaristi ve besteci John Abercrombie İstanbul’da!
Müzik hayatı boyunca Jack DeJohnette, Billie Cobham, Dave
Holland, Ralph Towner, Michael ve Randy Brecker ve daha birçok
sanatçıyla çalışan Abercrombie’nin son albümü “Wait Till You
See Her” 2009’da yayımlandı. Füzyon caz ve post-bop türlerinin
sınırlarını zorlayan Abercrombie 26 – 27 Ekim tarihlerinde
İksv’de, cazseverlerle buluşuyor.
ENJOYING JAZZ AT İKSV
John Abercrombie, the American Jazz guitarist and composer
whose musical career spans over 40 years and whose name
graces the covers of over 50 albums, is in Istanbul. The artist
has worked with the likes of Jack DeJohnette, Billie Cobham,
Dave Holland, Ralph Towner, Michael and Randy Brecker
throughout his life. Abercrombie released his last album, “Wait
Till You See Her,” in 2009. Abercrombie experiments with the
limits of fusion jazz and post-bop and will be at IKSV between
October 26 and 27 to meet with jazz enthusiasts.
A SHORT JOURNEY IN THE TIME CAPSULE
Bruno Serralongue’s exhibition, titled “Time Capsule”
and curated by Ali Akay, meet with art enthusiasts at
Akbank Sanat between September 15 and October
28, 2011. Serralongue travels from country to country
to share people’s dreams, political debates and
contradictions in the globalizing world via his lens. He
aims to have the audiences experience the moment
instead of transferring information via his photographs.
The artist’s photographs are said to resemble
documents because he generally prefers to capture
important events such as national uprisings and festivals
through his lens. Yet Serralongue says this isn’t true
and, because he takes these photographs through his
own perspective, they aren’t objective in the least. This
free exhibition that depicts “happenings” looks like it will
make a big splash in our country, as well.

Richard III, directed by Sam Mendes and
starring world-renowned actor Kevin Spacey in
the lead role, comes to Istanbul for five special
shows.
Richard III is the third leg of The Bridge
Project, carried out with the cooperation of Old
Vic, Brooklyn Music Academy and Neal Street.
The performance brings together famous British
and American artists under the directorship of
Sam Mendes and is awaited expectantly in all the
cities around the world where it is shown as part
of the tour. Kevin Spacey portrays Richard III in
the play; joining him are other strong actors such
as Maureen Anderman, Haydn Gwynne, Chuk

the Istanbul International
1001 Documentary Film
Festival has been home to
hundreds of Turkish and foreign
documentaries. This year,
the Festival will be held for
the fourteenth time between
September 29 and October 3.
The main festival program that
is once again separated into
sections according to color and
will display films that compose
the seven colors of truth.
This year, the festival takes
on the theme of “Dar alanlarDaralanlar” (“Limited spaces
– those who are limited”). It
will showcase the spaces that
grow more limited and the true
stories of those who are limited
in relationships such as those
of directors-those who are
directed, majorities-minorities,
men-women, adults-children,
believers-nonbelievers, those
who remain-those who flee and
financers-retired people.
SHALL WE DANCE?
The world’s most famous dancers meet
in Istanbul. The Istanbul International
Dance Festival, which takes place
between October 10 and 16, 2011,
in Istanbul Congress Center, is
collaboratively coordinated by JCI
(Junior Camber International Kadıköy),
IMU Dance Company, Ay’dan Mice,
Social Cookies and Aforizma. The
Festival will house 50 special and
unbelievable performances. During the
festival, 76 workshops will be held for
seven days for “beginners” in salsa,
Bachata, Reggaeton, Tango, Waltz, Hiphop, Jazz Dance, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Belly
Dancing. In addition, before the main
festival program begins, Monday-Friday
will host a Salsa party with live Latin
music, an 80s party, a Bosphorus Cruise
party and an opening party. One of the
performances in Istanbul International
Dance Festival that is sure to be
unforgettable is the one-hour show of
Frankie Martinez, who is regarded as the
best Salsa dancer in the world. The event
that will be held in Istanbul Congress
Center invites all dance enthusiasts.

Dağ bisikleti yarışları için belki Güney Yarımküreye dek uzanmak
istemeyebilirsiniz ancak yolunuz o sıralarda Şili’ye düşerse kesinlikle
kaçırmamanız gereken bir etkinlik. Burada dağ bisikletinin çılgın ve
öldürücü derecede korkunç hareketlerinin el kitabı yeniden daha da
ürkütücü şekilde yazılıyor. Şili’nin başkenti Santiago’nun yaklaşık
120 kilometre kuzeybatısında bir kıyı kenti olan Valparaiso’da
düzenlenen yarışlar ilk olarak 2002 yılında gerçekleştirildi. Şehir
içinde yapılan yarışlar, kentin labirenti andıran daracık sokaklarında
yapılıyor. En cesur yarışçıların katılmaya cesaret edebildiği yarış,
90 derecelik keskin dönüşler, derin çukurlar üzerinden sıçrayışlar
ve neredeyse kemikleri takırdatacak hızda aşılan merdivenler
içeriyor. Toprak yoldan sallanan tahta rampalara, kaygan çakıl taşlı
yollardan çukurlara birçok zorlu yüzeyin bulunduğu yarış alanında
heyecan bunlarla sınırlı değil. Sokak lambalarıyla, arabalarla, bir
anda karşınıza çıkabilecek köpeklerle ve yarış alanının son derece
yakınında yarışı seyreden izleyicilerle her an çarpışma riski,
adrenalini artırıyor. İşte tüm bu heyecan verici detaylar yüzünden
bu yarış çok tutuluyor. Burada bir seyirci olarak bile yerinizi iyi
seçmeye ve güvende olmaya bakın. Kafanıza her an bir yarışçı
düşebilir. Bu yarışta yarışçı olmak kadar seyirci olmak da riskli,
tehlikeli ama bir o kadar da zevkli.

What? Mountain Bike Race
Where? Chile When? February 2012
You may not wish to travel all the way to
the Southern Hemisphere for the Mountain
Bike Races, however if you find yourselves
on the way to Chile then this is an event
not to be missed. The manual of the crazy
and terrifying actions of mountain biking
are rewritten here even more intensely. The
races began in 2002 approximately 120 km
North West of Chile’s capital Santiago in the
coastal town Valparaiso. The races take place
in the town’s labyrinth like narrow streets.
The race that only the bravest of participants
dare to join, feature 90 degree sharp turns,
leaps over deep holes, bone breaking speeds
over steps, rickety platforms and roads with
slippery pebble stones and ditches that are
only a portion of the excitement involved in
this race. The danger of the racers possible
collision with street lamps, cars, street dogs
and even the audience standing near the
finish line all add to the adrenalin rush.
It’s because of these exact details this race
is so popular. As part of the audience make
sure you select your place carefully insuring
it’s safe, because a participant could fall on
you at any moment. During this race being
an audience member is as high risk and
dangerous but just as fun as taking part.

ekstrem sporlar serisi... Her sene Los Angeles’ta gerçekleştirilen
oyunlar son derece ticarî ve devasa boyutlarda ancak yine de
kaçırılmayacak kadar heyecan verici ve seyretmeye çok müsait.
Kaykay, BMX, moto-cross ve rallinin en önemli isimleri şovlarını
yapmak ve marifetlerini sergilemek için bu oyunlara mutlaka
katılıyor. Oyunların kış versiyonu ise Amerika’nın Alpler’i
Aspen’de, Buttermilk Mountain’da gerçekleştiriliyor. Burada seyirci
istatistikleri de en az yarışçılarınki kadar etkileyici. 2010 oyunlarına
138 binden fazla seyirci katıldı ve sadece Amerika Birleşik
Devletleri’nde 40 milyondan fazla kişi de oyunları televizyondan
izledi. Etkinlik 176 ülkede yayımlandı. Ancak bu heyecanı ve
adrenalini hissetmek için gidip yerinde izlemeniz gerekli.

A series of extreme sports brought together for the young generation…
The games that take place every year at Los Angeles are hugely
commercial and of gigantic proportions, however they are still very
exciting and not to be missed, as well as being open to audiences. The
top names names of skateboard, BMX, Motor-Cross and Rally always
take part to perform and show-off their skills. The winter version of
the games takes place on Buttermilk Mountain, Aspen in the American
Alps. Here the statistics of the audience are as impressive as the
participants. During the 2010 games there were over 138 thousand
audience members and in America alone 40 million people watched
from home. The event was broadcast to 176 countries, but to truly
feel this excitement and adrenalin you have to actually be there.

Son derece başarılı atletlerin dikey düzlemde yaptığı tırmanma yarışı gerçekten nefes
kesici. Cesur yarışçıların bir tırmanma duvarında örümcek gibi tırmandıkları yarış,
birçoğuna buzul tırmanışı kadar çekici ve heyecan verici gelmeyebilir ama vücudu sadece
birkaç parmak gücüyle destekleyip dikey bir düzlemde bir de hızlı davranmak zorunda
kalmak hiç de çocuk oyuncağı değil. Hızın, gücün ve vücudun aldığı çeşitli pozisyonların
bir bileşimi olan yarışta, rekabet edenler, böyle bir performansı ancak bir jimnastikçiden
bekleyebileceğiniz başarıyla yarışıyor. Tüm bu özelliklerin bir arada oluşu izlemesi,
estetik açıdan son derece eğlenceli bir aktivite meydana getiriyor. Bunu izlemek ve yarış
süresince ne olup bittiğini anlamak için tırmanmaya dair en ufak bir bilginiz dahi olmasına
gerek yok. Her şey açık ve net. Kuzey italya’daki Arco, tırmanış sporunun en iyilerini
yaz aylarında bu yarış sebebiyle kendisine çekiyor. Etkinlikte hem hız yarışları, hem
takım yarışmaları hem de bireysel yarışlar yer alıyor. Üstelik bu sene ilk kez engellilerin
de katıldığı bir tırmanma yarışı yapıldı. Paraclimbing World Championship (Engelliler

This race in which exceptional athletes climb vertical surfaces is really breathtaking.
Although these races take place on a climbing wall they may not sound as exciting and
alluring as glacier climbing but the technique of carrying ones weight with a couple
of fingers alone and having to react quickly is not child’s play. Only gymnasts can
successfully perform in the race which demands speed, strength, body and different
positions. With the combination of each the activity becomes an aesthetically fun display.
In order to watch or know what’s going on you don’t need to be a climber or know
anything about it. Everything is clear and straightforward. Arco in North Italy attracts
the best of the climbers during the summer months. There are speed races, team races as
well as solo races. This year there were also races for the physically challenged. The Para
Climbing World Championship’s that took place in July happened at the same time as
the main races.

Uzun zamandır yapıla gelen, 13 senedir Olimpiyat oyunlarına dahil olan ve artık
ortalama bir spor aktivitesi halini alan snowboard’u eski, asi köklerine döndüren
şampiyona Dünya Snowboard Federasyonu tarafından düzenleniyor. Bu şampiyona
hem snowboard’a taze ve genç bir soluk katıyor hem de snowboard’u büyük, şaşaalı
etkinlikler mertebesinden daha samimi, daha hakiki bir aktivite olarak yeniden
yaratıyor. Oslo Vinterpark, yani Norveç başkentinin kış parkında düzenlenen
etkinlikte kadınlar ve erkekler kategorilerinde slope stili ve halp-pipe yarışmaları
gerçekleştiriliyor. Yarışlara hem profesyoneller hem de içleri kazanma hırsıyla dolu
“çaylaklar” katılıyor. Bu da aktiviteyi, eşitlikçi bir alana taşıyor. Şubat ortasında
Norveç ve civarında olanların kesinlikle kaçırmaması gereken bir etkinlik…

BASE, “Building” (Bina), “Antenna”, “Span” ve “Earth” kelimelerinin baş harflerinden
oluşturulmuş bir sözcük. Heyecan arayan atlayıcıların son gözdelerinden olan BASE
jumping, özetle, çok yüksek yerlerden paraşüt kullanarak atlamaktan ibaret. Bu
yüksek yerler kırsal alanlarda olabileceği gibi şehir içerisinde de olabiliyor. Yüksek
binalar, gökdelenler, kuleler ve köprüler gibi… Bu yüksek yerlerden atlanıyor ve
birkaç saniye sinirlerin gerilmesi ve heyecanın tavan yapması bekleniyor ardından
paraşüt açılıyor. BASE yapılan alanlar genellikle illegal oluyor ve gizli tutuluyor.
Özellikle de bina, gökdelen ve köprü gibi insan elinden çıkmış yapılar söz konusu
olduğunda... Ancak 267 metre yüksekliğindeki New River Gorge Bridge’te
düzenlenen BASE jumping yarışı Bridge Day, buna bir istisna. Dünyanın dört bir
yanından gelen yüzlerce BASE atlayıcısı şafak sökerken bir gökdelenin camından
içeri girip ardından bir araçla hemen oradan uzaklaşmak zorunda kalmadan gönğül
rahatlığıyla sporlarını yapıyor. Bu etkinlik aynı zamanda biz seyircilere de böyle
muhteşem bir deneyimi izleme olanağı veriyor.

BASE is a word made up of the first letters of the words “Building”, “Antenna”, “Span” and “Earth”. BASE jumping
which is the latest favourite of the adrenalin junkies is quite literally jumping of a very high point with only a
parachute. These high points can both be in the country as well as in the city. Like high buildings, towers and
bridges...You jump off and then wait for nerves and excitement to hit the roof and then open the parachute. Areas
which BASE is performed are usually a secret and are illegal. Especially when manmade structures such as buildings
and skyscrapers are the issue... However, the BASE jumping race Bridge Day that takes place on the 267 metre high
New River Gorge Bridge is exempt from this. Thousands of BASE jumpers from all around the world enjoy the freedom
of practicing their sport freely rather than jumping off a sky scraper at dawn, exiting through a window and escaping
with a car as to not get caught. This event also allows us to witness this amazing experience for ourselves.

Championships however it goes back to its
rebellious roots. This championship adds a
young and fresh breath to the sport as well
as bringing it back to being a more sincere
and real activity compared to some of the
other more commercial events. Taking place
in Oslo Vinterpark, the winter park in
Norway’s capital the event sees men and
women compete on the slope as well as the
half-pipe. Both professionals and amateurs
hoping to win over the crowd take part in
the competition. This carries the activity

suya dalmadan önce, havadayken hareketlerini koordine etmek için yaklaşık 3 saniyelik bir
süreleri var. Olimpiyatlardaki tramplen atlamayı andırsa da kesinlikle çok daha heyecan verici zira
Olimpiyatlar’da atlayışlar havuzdan 9 metre yükseklikten yapılırken bu etkinlikte yükseklik 28
metreye dek çıkabiliyor. Üstelik bu etkinlikte, dalışçılar Olimpiyatlar’daki benzerlerinin 9 katı hızla,
saatte yaklaşık 100 kilometre hızla suya dalıyor. 2011 yılında yarışlar mart ayında, Şili’nin Pasifik
kıyılarındaki Rapa Nui’de başladı. Ardından Meksika, Yunanistan, Fransa ve İtalya’da devam etti.
Ağustos ayında Boston’da süren müsabakaların final serisi eylül ayı içerisinde Ukrayna’da, Yalta
kentinde.

What? Cliff Diving Where? Different cities around the world When? Between March and September
The Cliff Diving World Series sponsored by Red Bull can be summed up as acrobatic dives in to
water from up to 28 meters. The divers have approximately 3 seconds in the air to coordinate their
movements before the dive. Compared to the diving board jumps in the Olympics it’s a lot more
exciting since the pool jumps are from 9 meters high while these jumps can go up to 28 meters. Plus
compared to the Olympic divers, these dives are 9 times as fast and are approximately 100 km per
hour. The competition in 2011 took place in March in Rapa Nui, the South Coast of Chile. It then
continued in Mexico, Greece, France and Italy. Following the August competition in Boston, the
final will take place in Ukraine in September.

most famous restaurant of Eastern Anatolia where kebap
and baklava are at the pinnacle of flavor and good service.
Antep cuisine is based on regional foods, or juicy dishes
stewed in pots, but the city is known for kebap and
baklava. This is because the pistachios and butter,
which make baklava what it is, as well as the meat, are
manufactured here under conditions that aren’t available
in other regions. Caves are a big part of Antep geography;
in a sense, they’re sheep hotels where sheep are bred and
raised. Here, the sheep don’t move around; they grow fat
with their food and drink right in front of them. Since
they have limited mobility, their muscles don’t develop and
fat gets disbursed around their bodies evenly. Additionally,
the meat from male sheep is always used here. While the
female sheep has meat that’s watery and doesn’t cook or
stiffen easily, the male meat is perfect for cutting up and
cooking in small chunks. Another secret is that these meats
are minced not by machine but by hand... The secret to
baklava’s flavor lies in the ingredients. The plain butter
(which resembles melted butter) is made from the milk of
sheep that have just given birth in spring.
Antep’s pot-stewed dishes are just as popular as baklava
and kebap. The Antep traveler is recommended to make his
way to Antep Sofrası, which offers this authentic and rich
cuisine. Dishes like dövmeli alaca soup, dry dolma, içli
köfte, analı kızlı and yuvarlama are brought in a giant
plated copper tray with fine engraving done on the sides.
The menengiç coffee is the perfect treat to top off this
flavor feast.

Çavuşin Köyü, (Göreme’ye 3-4 km mesafede) eski

and last 1 hour and 15 minutes. They offer
unique views of the region’s deep canyons and
fertile valleys; the gentle breeze carries the Cappadocia
traveler above places where he or she cannot reach
without a balloon. The touchdown celebration with

and pleasure of flying. Çavuşin Village (located 3-4
km away from Göreme) looks like the typical Anatolian

Urfa evleri
“Odalı–haremli” denilen avlulu, büyük konak tipi
Urfa evlerinin çoğu, şehir merkezindeki daracık
sokaklarda, yüksek duvarlarla çevrili oldukları
için dışarıdan gözükmeyen konaklar. Bölgede ağaç
bulunmadığı için, evler “hevara taşı” denilen sarımsı
bir kalkerden inşa edilmiş. Bu taşlar, özellikle evlerin
avluya bakan cephelerinde geometrik ve bitkisel
motiflerle dantel gibi işlenmiş. Kent dokusu genelde
bozulmuş olsa da, ara sokaklarda dolaşmak egzotik bir
Doğu şehrinde kaybolma duygusu verebilir. Evlerin
altından geçen tüneller ve çıkmaz sokaklar, labirent
duygusunu güçlendiriyor. Restore edilip geziye
açılan evler arasında, Harran Üniversitesi Kültür
Evi (Akçarlar Evi), Mahmud Nedim Konağı, Şurkav
Kültür Merkezi, Devlet Güzel Sanatlar Müzesi’ne
dönüştürülen Hacı Hafızlar Evi, restoran olarak
hizmet veren Pınarbaşı Konağı sayılabilir. Kentin en
tipik ve bozulmamış sokakları olan Zincirli Sokak ile
Yorgancı Sokak görülmeye değer.

Urfa for mystical travelers
O
ne of the oldest settlement areas of Mesopotamia,
Şanlıurfa is the place to go for a unique vacation
in time and place. The eleven thousand year-old
city is known as a “Museum City” thanks to its historic homes
that are as beautiful as palaces, its streets, inns, hamams,
mosques, covered bazaars and traditional handicrafts. It offers
a journey in history, in a sense, with its historic bazaars,
delicious food, music and sıra geceleri (evenings where men
gather together to drink and sing)...
Balıklı Lake, Ulu Mosque and other historic spots... To tell
you the truth, each one has the ambiance of a ritual and
a mystical invitation. The most mesmerizing place is the
historic Urfa Bazaar. It’s like an oasis full of color, breeze
and joy in the middle of Urfa, which is carved out of yellow
stone.
As soon as you step into the Historic Urfa Bazaar from
Haşimiye Square, it’s as if you pass through time’s invisible
door and enter into a different dimension. This 500-year-old
bazaar consists of eight inns and was constructed in 1562,
during the time of Kanuni. Tailors work continuously on the
second floor of the inn in order to meet orders. The kaftan,
mintan, aba, şalvar and wide-pocketed vests in the tailors’
tiny stores carry past eras into the present.
Urfa homes
Most of the Urfa homes, called “odalı-avlulu,” resemble
large mansions with courtyards and are invisible from
the outside as they are located in narrow streets in
the city center and surrounded by tall walls. Since
there are no trees in the area, the homes were built
out of yellowish limestone called “hevara taşı.” These
stones were engraved like embroidery with geometric
and floral motifs, particularly in the sides facing
the courtyard. Even if the town’s texture is generally
disrupted, touring the backstreets can make one feel
as if he or she is lost in an exotic Eastern city. The
tunnels that pass under the homes and the one-way
streets enhance this labyrinth-like feel. The most
interesting restored homes that have been opened up
for viewing include Harran University’s House of
Culture (Akçarlar House), Mahmud Nedim Mansion,
Şurkav Culture Center, Hacı Hafızlar House that’s
been converted into the State Fine Arts Museum and
Pınarbaşı Mansion, which operates as a restaurant.
The most characteristic and untainted streets of the
town are Zincirli Sokak and Yorgancı Sokak.

onca tahribatın Osmanlı izlerini hâlâ silemediği
Plovdiv sokaklarını gezerken bir an nerede olduğunuzu
unutup Anadolu’nun tarih kokan sokaklarından birinde
gezdiğinizi düşünebilirsiniz. Zaten Plovdiv de bu
benzerliği çoktan keşfedip kardeş olmuş İstanbul ve
Bursa ile.
Plovdiv, Bulgaristan’ın güney kesiminde, yukarı Trakya
Ovası’nda ve Meriç Nehri’nin iki tarafında yer almakta.
Burası aslında altı tepe üzerine kurulmuş bir şehir.
Meriç Nehri ile merkezdeki Cuma Camii arasında kalan
kısımda şehrin ticari bölümü bulunuyor. 1999 yılında
Avrupa Kültür Başkenti ilan edilen bu şehrin geçmişi
oldukça eskilere dayanıyor. Şehir, 1361 yılında Rumeli
Beylerbeyi Lala Şahin Paşa tarafından fethedilince, adı
“Filibe” olarak anılır olmuş. 1878’deki Osmanlı-Rus
savaşından ve Bulgaristan’ın bağımsızlığından sonra da
“Plovdiv” olarak değiştirilmiş adı.
A museum-city in

T
he Rumelian city of Plovdiv recalls old Anatolian
cities with its longstanding traces of history. In the
city where neither time nor destructive forces could
erase the Ottoman influence, you may momentarily forget
where you are and think you’re visiting a street in Anatolia
with its history so palpable you can smell it. Plovdiv has also
perceived this similarity long ago and consequently become a
“sister” city to Istanbul and Bursa.
Plovdiv is located in the south of Bulgaria, on both sides of
the Evros River and in the upper Thracian Valley. This is
actually a city built on six hills. The city’s commercial section
is situated between the Evros River and the Cuma Mosque in
the city center. The city was chosen as the European Capital of
Culture in 1999, though its history extends much further back
in time. After the city was conquered Rumeli Beylerbeyi Lala
Şahin Paşa in 1361, it began to be called “Filibe.” Its name
was then changed to “Plovdiv” after the Ottoman-Russian war
of 1878 and the independence of Bulgaria.
Today, Plovdiv is located on the road that extends from
Bugün Anadolu’dan Avrupa’ya giden yol üzerinde bulunan
Filibe’nin, ya da bugünkü adıyla Plovdiv’in bizim için
tarihi bir önemi var. Osmanlılar döneminde Filibe tam
bir Türk şehri karakterinde gelişme göstermiş. Burayı
fetheden Rumeli Beylerbeyi Lala Şahin Paşa, ilk olarak
Meriç üzerinde bir köprü yaptırmış ve çeltik yetiştirmeye
oldukça elverişli olan şehrin hemen kuzeyindeki araziye
pirinç ektirerek bölgeye bu ziraatı tanıtmış. Zamanla
şehir, devlet sınırlarının iç kısmında kalarak önemli ticari
ve ekonomik merkezlerden biri haline gelmiş. 15. yüzyılın
ilk yarısında, Anadolu’dan getirilen Türk aileleri buraya
yerleştirilmiş ve Filibe, Rumeli Beylerbeyinin merkezi
olmuş. Şehri birkaç kez ziyaret etmiş olan ünlü seyyah
Evliya Çelebi, buranın Osmanlı Devleti’nin Avrupa’daki
en büyük on şehrinden biri olduğunu ve her gün daha da
zenginleştiğini kaydetmiş.
Ne var ki, Osmanlı’dan ayrılmasından sonra hızlı bir
şekilde hem Müslüman nüfus azalmış, hem de onlara ait
binaların sayısı. Osmanlı döneminde inşa ettirilen çok
sayıda cami, medrese, han, hamam ve kervansaray gibi
yapılardan sadece birkaçı gelebilmiş günümüze. Bunlardan
birisi halkın “Ulu Cami” veya “Cumaa Camii” olarak andığı
Hüdavendigâr Camii.
Günümüzde, üç tepe üzerinde oldukça güzel bir mimari
yapılar grubu halinde ayakta duran bu müze kent,
geleneksel evleri ile Türk ve Bulgar yapı işçiliğinin uyumlu
bir örneği olarak görülüyor. Osmanlı’nın kurduğu bir
mahalle aslında burası. Bunu evlerin tarihlerine bakarak
da anlamak mümkün. Görkemini sade stilinde bulan
bu mimari biçim, bugün ‘”Plovdiv Barok tarzı” olarak
isimlendiriliyor. İşte bu tarihi dokuyu gelecek nesillere
bırakmak amacıyla evler restore edilmiş. 150’den fazla
kültür-evinden oluşan bu yapılar topluluğu, tam bir
müze görünümünde. Bugün evlerin her biri müze, galeri,
atölye, lokanta gibi işlevler görüyor. Her odaya güneşin
girebileceği şekilde konumlandırılmış pencereleri ile ahşap
tavanlı bu yapılar, oymacılık sanatının en güzel örneklerini
de barındırıyorlar.
Anatolia to Europe and bears historic importance for
us. During the Ottoman era, Plovdiv developed as a
quintessential Turkish city. Rumeli Beylerbeyi Lala Şahin
Paşa, who conquered the area, first set up a bridge over
Evros River and then introduced agriculture to the area
by having rice planted right north of the city, which is an
area that’s suitable for growing the crop. In time, the city
grew to be an important center of commerce and economy
within the country’s borders. During the first half of the
15th century, Turkish families brought from Anatolia
were settled here and Plovdiv, in turn, became the center
of Rumeli Beylerbeyi. Famous traveler Evliya Çelebi, who
visited the city several times, recorded that this was one of
the ten biggest cities of the Ottoman Empire in Europe and
that it grew richer by the day.
Yet after the Ottomans left the area, the Muslim population
declined steadily, as did the number of buildings that
belonged to them. Only several of the many mosques,
medrese, inns, hammam and caravansarai built during
the Ottoman era made it to our day. One of these is
Hüdavendigâr Mosque, which the people call “Ulu Mosque”
or “Cumaa Mosque.”
Today, this museum-city stands as a collection of buildings
situated on three hills that are architecturally beautiful.
The city is considered to be a harmonious example of
Turkish and Bulgarian structuring thanks to its traditional
houses. This is actually a neighborhood set up by the
Ottomans, as is evident when the construction dates of
the houses are observed. This architectural style, called
“Plovdiv Baroque style” today, finds elegance in its simple
style. Houses have been restored in order to pass this
historic texture on to future generations. This collection
of structures consists of over 150 culture houses and has
the appearance of a proper museum. Today, each of these
houses serves as a museum, gallery, atelier or restaurant.
These buildings with wooden ceilings are situated in a way
that lets sunlight into each room through the windows.
They are also the finest examples of the art of woodcarving.

Magnificent Aspendos
Another one of Antalya’s ancient cities, Aspendos dates
back to 5th century B.C. What gave Aspendos its true
fame is the glorious ancient theater, built by Aspendos’
own architect Xenon in 2nd century A.D., during the
reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. This ancient theater is
still used today for concerts and shows; it is an incredible
structure that can host up to 30,000 people. The entrance
areas on both sides of the stage building bear Hellenic and
Latin scriptures, which reveal that the theater is presented
to the country’s gods and the house of the empire.

1989’da Ali Sipahi Rallisi ile başladı her şey. Bu yarışa yalnızca deneme amaçlı
katılmıştım. Ancak o günden sonra dünya şampiyonasına katılmak gibi çıtayı çok daha
yükseltme kararı aldım. Türkiye için hayal olabilecek durumları hedefledim. Bu yarışta
aldığım derece de tanınmamı ve bu işte ilerlemem gerektiğini bana sağladı. Bu yüzden de
hayatımda bu yarışın ayrı bir önemi var diyebilirim.
Sadece yarışçı değil aynı zamanda da motor sporlarını yaygınlaştırmayı ilke
edinmişsiniz. Neden?
Aslında spor hayatımı ikiye ayırabilirim: Birincisini, tamamen sportif başarıyı kovaladığım
dönem diye tanımlayabilirim. İkincisi ise hem sportif başarıyı hedeflediğim hem de
onun yanında eğitim vermek, otomotiv sanayisiyle ilgilenmek gibi birçok yan projelerle
uğraştığım dönem. Bir şeyler yaparken onu başka insanlara da tanıtmayı, daha doğrusu
bu alanda onları bilinçlendirmeyi istedim. Çünkü maalesef Türkiye bu konuda eksik.
Bu yüzden de ülkemizin dikkatini çekebileceğine inandığım bu sporu bilinçli olarak
yaygınlaştırma kararı aldım. Tabi bu da uzun bir süreç oldu. Örneğin geçtiğimiz yıllarda,
Metin Şentürk ile birlikte dünya görme engelliler yarış rekorunu kırdık. Bu yarışa ilk
başladığımda çevremde hayretli bakışlar vardı. Ama yarış sonrası bu tarz bir projenin ne
denli anlamlı olduğunu herkes görmüş oldu.
Yani ilk başlarda insanlara bu fikir yabancı mı geliyordu?
Toplum olarak çok alışık olmadığımız bir şey. Önce projeyle ilgili, “nasıl olacak ki
bu?” sorusuyla karşılaşıyorum. Ancak sonrasında - ne mutlu bana ki - bu kararın doğru
olduğuna çevremi inandırabiliyorum.

Volkan Işık is our country’s most successful race pilot thanks to his Turkey
championships, innumerable first place awards in different categories and his
diligent efforts to advance motor sports. We’ve made a pleasant
conversation with Işık at Dedeman Roof Bar.
Firstly, how did you embark on this adventure?
Everything began in 1989 with the Ali Sipahi Rally. I only participated in this race as sport,
yet after that day, I decided to raise the bar much higher for myself and participate in the
world championship. I aimed for situations that would be a dream for Turkey. The title I won
in this race allowed me to become well known and grow in this business. That’s why I could say
that this race is particularly important in my life.
You made it your principle to advance not only yourself as a racer but also motor
sports in general. Why?
I could actually divide my athletic life into two halves: The first is the period where I am
entirely chasing after athletic accomplishment. The second is the period when I aim both for
athletic success and for side projects such as educating others and getting involved with the
automotive industry. When I’m doing something, I wanted to introduce it to other people, too,
or actually to raise their awareness of this field. Because unfortunately Turkey is lacking in
this subject... That’s why I decided to consciously advance a sport that I believe could get our
nation’s attention. Of course, this was a long process, too. For instance, in the past, Metin
Şentürk and I broke the world visually impaired race record together. When I first started this

→ race, I received surprised glares from people around me. But after the race, everyone had seen
how meaningful a project like this was.
So in the beginning, people saw this as an unfamiliar idea?
It’s not something we’re very used to as a society. First, I’m met with the question “how will
this happen?” about the project. But afterwards, happily for me, I can convince those around me
that this decision is the right one.
How old do you have to start to be a professional racer? Are there rules to this sport?
Profesyonel bir yarışçı olmak için kaç yaşından başlamak gerekiyor? Bu işin kuralları
var mı?
Eğer kişinin şampiyon olmak gibi bir hedefi varsa, kurallar mevcut. Ancak kişi, yalnızca
eğlenmek amaçlı yarışmak istiyorsa kendisini çok fazla sıkmadan, fazla kural koymadan
yarışmalarını sağlıyoruz.
Hedefi olan kişilerin de yalnızca yarış kurallarını iyi bilip uygulamaları yetmiyor tabii.
Özveri, disiplin ve sabır da bir otomobil sporcusunda olması gereken özellikler.
Yaş konusunda ise; tecrübeli olmak başarının asıl anahtarı. Her yarış size ayrı bir tecrübe
kazandırıyor. Bu yüzden ne kadar erken yaşta başlanırsa o kadar tecrübe ve artıyı da
beraberinde getiriyor.
Peki sizin tecrübe ettiğiniz en önemli şey ne oldu?
“Coşku” bu tarz sporlarda yaşadığınız en belirgin his. Ama fazla coşkulu bir insan olmak her
ne kadar başarıyı tetiklese de fazla dozu zarar getirebiliyor. Bu yüzden bu süre zarfında ben,
o fazla coşkuyu nasıl kontrol altına alabileceğimi öğrendim.
Türkiye ve Avrupa’daki sistemi karşılaştırırsanız benzer ve farklı yanlar neler olur?
Otomobil sporundan ziyade genel olarak ülkemizde sporcu insanların yaşadığı pek
söylenemez. Düzenli olarak spor yapan ve bunu hayat tarzı olarak benimseyen insanlar yok
denecek kadar az. Bu iş tamamen bir kültür meselesi. Spordan ve spor yapmaktan biraz
korkan bir yapımız var. Avrupa’da ise durum çok daha farklı. 60 - 70 yaşında insanların
bisiklet sürdüklerini, koşu yaptıklarını görebiliyoruz. Ülkemizde böyle olaylar yaşanamadığı
için maalesef insanlar çocuklarını “Aman oğlum düşersin bir yerini kırarsın.” mantığı
nedeniyle spora yönlendirmiyorlar.
Futbol, basketbol, otomobil sporları, bisiklet ve diğer tüm sporlar insanlara aynı zamanda
yenilgilerin de zaferin bir parçası olduğunu, azimle çalışmanın sonucunda alınan verimi,
takım çalışmasını öğretiyorlar. Bu nedenle olaya yalnızca para kazanmak veya herhangi bir
yerini incitmek felsefesinden değil, bambaşka hayat tecrübelerinin kazanıldığı bir durum
olarak bakılması gerektiğini düşünüyorum.
Yarış sırasında hissettiğiniz duygular nasıldı? Korku olmuyor mu?
Bir yarışa asla “Ben kesinlikle korkmuyorum.” diye başlamamak gerekiyor. Her an her
şeyin olabileceğinin bilincine sahip insanlar korkuyu hissederler ve buna hazırlıklı olurlar.
Konsantrasyonumu arttıran şey korkusuzluk değil, motivasyon ve yaşadığım stres.
Peki unutamadığınız bir kaza anınız var mı?
Elbette. Yarışırken çok fazla eğlendiğimiz düşünülmesin. Kaza anında ilk aklıma gelen şey
“Bundan sonra ne olacak?” değil de “Sponsorunuza duyduğunuz sorumluluk… Bu hatayı
nasıl yapabildim diye de kendinize kızmanız.
Yalnız bir tanesi çok farklı bir kazaydı. İzmir’deki bir yarışta kaza yaptım ve kendimi
gökdelenden uçuyormuş gibi hissettim. Her şey ağır çekim ilerliyordu. Tepeden 180
If a person has set a goal like becoming champion, there are rules. Yet if the person’s doing it
just to have fun, then we let him race without stressing himself too much and without too many
rules.
For those who have goals, it isn’t enough to just know the rules of the game well and implement
them, of course. Hard work, discipline and patience are also traits that an automobile racer
must have.
When it comes to age, being experienced is the true key to success. Every race brings you a
different experience. That’s why however old you are when starting, you’ll have that much
experience and pluses.
So what’s the most important thing you experienced?
The clearest feeling you have in sports like these is “joy”. Being an overjoyed person can be a
trigger to success, but it can also cause lots of damage. That’s why, during this time, I learned
how to control that joy.
If you were to compare the systems in Turkey and Europe, what are some similarities
and differences?
Leaving automobile sports to one side, we can’t really say that our country’s generally full of
athletic people. The number of people who exercise regularly and accept this as a way of life
is slim to none. This is entirely about culture. We have a structure that’s somewhat afraid of
sports and exercising. Yet the situation’s much more different in Europe. We can see that people
in their 60s and 70s ride bicycles and run. Since things like this don’t happen in our country,
unfortunately, people don’t direct their children towards sports with the attitude of “Oh my son
you’ll fall down and break something.”
Soccer, basketball, automobile sports, bicycling and all other sports also teach people that
failure is a part of victory and about the product of diligent work as well as team work. This
is why I think that we should approach the subject not only in terms of earning money or the
philosophy of hurting some part of your body but as a situation in which people gain completely
different life experiences.
What were the feelings you had during the race? Is fear one of them?
You should never start a race thinking, “I’m not afraid at all”. People who are aware that
anything could happen at any minute feel fear and are prepared for it. What increases my
concentration isn’t fearlessness but motivation and the stress I experience.
So is there an accident moment that you can’t forget?
Of course. People shouldn’t think that we have too much fun when we’re racing. What first
comes to my mind during the moment of the accident isn’t “What’s going to happen now?” but
the responsibility you feel towards your sponsor and getting mad at yourself thinking, “How
could I make this mistake?”
But one of them was a very unique accident. I had an accident in a race in Izmir and I felt as if
I was flying from a skyscraper. Everything was moving in slow motion. I flew off a cliff at 180

difficulties when putting this project to life?

What are your goals in terms of the V1 races?
Öncelikli olarak Türk halkına, sonra dünyaya sporu daha çok sevdirecek bir araç yapmaya
karar verdim. Yıllarca bunun hayalini kurdum ve kafamda planladım. 2002 krizi sırasında
da hayata geçirmeye karar verdim. Büyük bir zorlukla karşılaşmadım çünkü yıllardan
beri her türlü engeli kafamda aştığım, kendi kendime tasarladığım bir projeydi. Her şeye
hazırlıklıydım.
Genelde insanlar otomobil yapma fikrimi şaşkınlıkla karşıladılar. “Ne yapacaksın ki bunu?”
diye tepkiler aldım. Şu anda bile şaşkın olanlar var. Bugüne kadar kırk tane otomobil yaptık
ve halen “ Nasıl olabildi böyle bir şey?” şeklinde tepkiler alıyorum. Şu anda projem yalnızca
yarış otomobili ancak ileride cadde otomobili üretmek de istiyorum.
V1 bizim kendi oluşturduğumuz bir yarış. Dünyada eşi benzeri yok ve bunu pazarlamak
istiyoruz. Açıkçası otomobil yarışlarının Türkiye’den çok yurt dışında şans bulacağını
düşünüyoruz. Elbette bu otomobilin ve yarışların Türkiye’de de yaygınlaşmasını istiyoruz.
I decided to make a vehicle that would make first the Turkish people and then the world
love this sport more. I dreamt about this for years and planned it in my head. During
the 2002 crisis, I decided to put it to life. I didn’t encounter great difficulty because this
was a project that I had dealt with every obstacle in my own head and that I designed by
myself. I was prepared for everything.
People were generally surprised at my idea to manufacture an automobile. I got responses
like “Why would you do this anyway?” We’ve made forty automobiles to date and I still
get reactions like “How could something like this happen?” My project is solely focused on
race cars at the moment, but I want to create street cars in the future, too.
V1 is a race we created ourselves. There’s nothing in the world like it, and we want to
market this. Truthfully, we believe that automobile races will have a greater chance
abroad than in Turkey. Of course, we want this automobile and these races to become
more advanced in Turkey, too.

We’re together with Dedeman due to V1 Challenge, and it’s a great source of pride for
us for a large group like Dedeman to exist in our championship. It’s very important
for us that a big group like this supports races like these, and we want to continue this

Malzemeler 250 gr haşlanmış karides, 4 havuç, 2 enginar,
50 gr bakla, 100 gr kuşkonmaz, Birkaç marul yaprağı
Ingredients 250 gr. Boiled prawns, 4 Carrots, 2 Artichokes,
50 gr. Broad Bean, 100 gr. Asparagus, A couple of lettuce
leaves
Sos için 100 gr haşlanmış nohut, 1 çorba kaşığı limon suyu, 2 diş
sarımsak, 3 dal maydanoz, 1 çorba kaşığı zeytinyağı, 2 çay kaşığı
tatlı pul biber, 1 çay kaşığı hardal, Tuz
Yapılışı Havuçları temizleyip eşit büyüklükte baston şeklinde kesin.
Enginarları temizleyip doğrayın. Bakla ve kuşkonmazları ayıklayıp
doğrayın. Havuç, karnabahar, enginar, bakla ve kuşkonmazları
tuzlu suda yumuşayana kadar haşlayıp süzün. Maydanozu
temizleyip kıyın.
Sarımsakları soyup ezin. Nohut, sarımsak, limon suyu, hardal,
tuz ve zeytinyağını robotta krema kıvamında ezin. Salata kâsesini
marul yapraklarıyla kaplayın. Sosu döküp sebzeleri şık bir görünüm
elde etmek için, renk değişimlerine göre yerleştirin. Üzerine
karidesleri ekleyin. Maydanozu serpiştirin. Pul biberi ilave edin.
Yemeğiniz servise hazır.
Sauce
100 gr. Boiled chickpeas, 1 Table spoon of lemon juice, 2 Garlic
cloves, 1 Table spoon of olive oil, 2 tea spoons of sweet red
pepper flakes, 1 tea spoon of mustard, Salt
Preparation Clean the carrots and then cut them evenly into
sticks. Clean and chop up the artichokes. Sort and shell the
broad beans and asparagus and chop. Place the carrots,
cauliflower, artichokes, broad beans and asparagus in salty
water and boil till they soften then drain.
Peel and crush the garlic. Place the chickpeas, garlic, lemon
juice, mustard, salt and olive oil in a blender and blend till
creamy. Cover the salad bowl with the lettuce leaves. In order to
get a slick presentation place the vegetables according to their
colour change, then pour the sauce. Then place the prawns
and sprinkle the parsley. Once you add a little red pepper flakes
you’re ready to serve.

Malzemeler 200 gr karışık mevsim yeşillikler, 3 armut, 100 gr

Ingredients 200 gr. mixed greens, 3 pears, 100 gr. blue
cheese, 24 walnuts
Yapılışı Yıkanmış ve suyu süzülmüş yeşillikleri iri doğrayıp tabağa
alın. Servis tabağının kenarına kabukları soyulup dilimlenmiş
armutları ve ceviz içlerini yerleştirin.
Sos için zeytinyağı, nar ekşisi, tuz ve karabiberi karıştırın.
Salatanın üzerine gezdirerek dökün. Ufalanmış rokfor peynirini
sosu döktükten sonra salatanız servise hazır.
Kâğıtta Midyeli Spagetti
Malzemeler Yarım paket spagetti, 300 gr ayıklanmış midye,
200 gr dondurulmuş karides, 4 domates, 1 soğan, 2 diş sarımsak,
7 siyah zeytin, 3–4 dal maydanoz, 2 çorba kaşığı ayçiçeği yağı,
yarım su bardağı beyaz şarap, yarım su bardağı su, tuz
Yapılışı Midyeyi yarım bardak şarap ve yarım bardak suda
15 dakika haşlayıp süzün. Domatesleri soyup küp küp doğrayın.
Sarımsakları soyup ezin. Soğanı soyup kıyın. Maydanozu
temizleyip kıyın. Zeytinlerin çekirdeklerini çıkarın. Ayçiçek yağını
tavada kızdırın. Soğan ve sarımsağı ekleyip pembeleştirin.
Domates ve karidesleri ilave edin. Tuz serpip 10 dakika üzeri
kapalı olarak pişirin. Makarnayı tuzlu kaynar suda haşlayıp süzün.
Midye, karidesli sos ve zeytini makarnaya ilave edip bir kapta
harmanlayın. Karışımı dört yağlı kâğıda paylaştırıp paket şeklinde
sarın ve önceden ısıtılmış 200 dereceye ayarlı fırında 10 dakika
pişirin. Sıcak olarak servis yapın.
Spaghetti with Mussels
in Paper
Ingredients Half a packet of spaghetti, 300 gr. shelled mussels,
200 gr. frozen prawns, 4 tomatoes, 1 Onion, 2 garlic cloves
7 black olives, 3–4 branches of parsley, 2 table spoons of sun
flower oil, half a water glass of white wine, half a water glass of
water, salt
Preparation Boil the mussels in the half glass of wine and water
for 15 minutes and then drain. Peel the tomatoes and dice. Peel
the garlic and crush. Peel the onion and slice. Wash and chop
the parsley. Remove the olive pips.
Heat the Sunflower oil. Add the onion and garlic till pink. Then
add the tomato and prawns. Sprinkle a bit of salt, cover and
cook for 10 minutes.
Boil and drain the pasta. Blend the mussels, prawn sauce, olives
and pasta in a bowl. Then evenly distribute it into 4 non-stick
paper packets. Wrap them up and place in the oven preheated
to 200 degrees for 10 minutes. Serve hot.
Dressing Half a tea glass of olive oil, 4 table spoons of
pomegranate molasses, salt, black pepper
Preparation After you wash and drain your mixed greens,
thickly cut them up and put on the plate. Then on along the
side of the service plate place the peeled and sliced pears and
walnuts.
Dressing For the dressing, mix the olive oil, pomegranate
molasses, salt and black pepper. Drizzle it over the salad.
Sprinkle the crumbled blue cheese over the salad once you’ve
poured the dressing.

Sos için

of yogurt, half a table spoon of lemon juice, 4 table spoons of
olive oil, 1 dessert spoon of pink pepper kernels, salt
Yapılışı Brokoliyi temizleyip, ayırın. Havucu temizleyip elma gibi
dilimleyin. Kırmızı lâhana yapraklarını iri şeritlere kesin. Brokoli ve
havuçları hafif haşlayın. Yumurta, hardal, yoğurt, limon suyu, tuz
ve zeytinyağını bir kapta mikserle çırparak sosu hazırlayın. Brokoli,
havuç ve lahana yapraklarını salata kâsesine alıp üzerine sosu
gezdirin. Pembe biber taneleriyle süsleyip servis yapın. Brokolili
karışık salatanız artık servise hazır.
Preparation Clean the broccoli and separate. Wash the
carrots and slice up like an apple. Slice the red cabbage
leaves into thick rows. Slightly boil the broccoli and carrots.
Prepare the sauce by whisking the egg, mustard, yogurt,
lemon juice, salt and olive oil in a mixer. Place the broccoli,
carrots and cabbage leaves in a salad bowl and drizzle the
dressing over it. Garnish with the pink pepper kernels and
your mixed broccoli salad is ready to serve.

Blue Berry Muffin
Malzemeler 125 gr margarin, 2 yumurta, 140 ml süt,
175 gr toz tatlandırıcı, 200 gr tam buğday unu,
1 paket kabartma tozu, yarım çay kaşığı vanilya aroması,
3/4 su bardağı dondurulmuş yaban mersini
Ingredients
125 gr. margarine, 2 eggs, 140 ml milk, 175 gr. powdered
sweetener, 200 gr. wheat flour, 1 packet of baking powder,
half a tea spoon of vanilla flavour, 3/4 cup of frozen blue
berries
Yapılışı Oda ısısında yumuşatılmış margarin ve toz
tatlandırıcıyı mikserle iyice çırpın. Yumurtaları teker teker
ekleyip karıştırın. Süt, vanilya aroması, un ve kabartma tozunu
ekleyip 2 dakika daha çırpın. Dondurulmuş yaban mersinlerini
ekleyip tahta bir kaşıkla karıştırın. Kalıplara kâğıt yerleştirin ve
hamuru içlerine paylaştırın. 180 dereceye ayarlı fırında hafif
kızarıncaya kadar pişirin. Yaban mersinli muffin artık hazır,
afiyet olsun.
Preparation Whisk the softened margarine and powdered
sweetener in a blender. Mix the eggs in one by one. Then
add the milk, vanilla, flour and baking powder and whisk
another 2 minutes. Mix in the frozen blue berries with a
wooden spoon. Place paper muffin cups in the muffin tray.
Place in the over preheated to 180 degrees. Once they’re
golden, you can take them out, cool and serve. Enjoy.

ile süsleyin ve dilimleyerek servis yapın.
Preparation Clean the zucchini and slice into rings. Finely chop
up the dill. Heat the oil, then add the onion and cook till pink.
Add the zucchini and sauté briefly. Add one small cup of water
and cover till the zucchini softens. Sprinkle the dill, salt and
black pepper.
Whisk the yogurt, egg and grated lemon peel in a bowl; add to
the zucchini and mix. Cover the round oven tin with non- stick
paper. Pour the mixture into the tin. Cook in the oven preheated
to 180 degrees for 20 minutes. Once cool, garnish with mint,
slice and serve.

100 yıl kadar önce yaşayan Fransızlar tarafından inşa edilmiş. Aynı zamanda
da sit alanı. Tarihi esintisi, çoğu zaman asi dalgalarıyla bir bütün haline
gelen denizi, boydan boya uzanan falezleri ve falezler üzerinde balık tutan
balıkçıları ile Zonguldak’ın vazgeçilmezleri arasında.

Harmankaya Waterfalls
Harmankaya waterfalls located 15 minutes away from
Zonguldak center in the Kokaksu region is admirable
with its natural beauty. The nature trips taken in areas
parallel to where the waterfalls break are a spectacular
exploration full of surprises. If you do not count the
smaller waterfalls along your way, you will see three
large waterfalls during your trek. The narrow and steep
pathway is used to pass the waterfalls that vary around
10-15m in height. The area which attracts attention as
a result of its breath-taking forest views has a different
beauty throughout all seasons.
Sultans Dance with Colorful Lights: Gökgöl Cave
A captivating route for those who wish to explore the
different parts of nature. Gökgöl Cave, located at the
entrance of Zonguldak, 5 km from the city center, is a
spectacular natural beauty with its running stream, lake,
pendent rocks, stalagmites, travertines and million year
old corals. It is truly a magical atmosphere with the
colorful lighting that has been installed in the caves and
its active water stream. The fifth longest cave in Turkey,
Gökgöl Cave has been open to visitors since 2001. The
cave that is separated into three sections: fossilized area,
the active cave and its half active side wings, also is a
haven for those who love to walk in nature with its 875m
long walking course.

bu taze ve eşsiz lezzeti haziran ayının ilk yarısından
sonra keşfedebilirsiniz. Hassas bir yapıya sahip
olduğundan çok büyük ilgi isteyen Osmanlı çileği
üreticileri tarafından sabahın erken saatlerinde
zedelenmeden toplanıyor ve 1 - 2 saat içerisinde
hemen satışa çıkarılıyor. Toplanan çileğin açık
havadaki ömrü sadece 15 - 20 saat olduğundan
hemen tüketilmesi gerekiyor.

from Karadeniz Ereğli and are cloths showing the

for decoration purposes, as tablecloths, table mats,
scarves and shawls. The cloths that are colored with
natural, paint-free dyes are woven from cotton, linen

Çaycuma Yoghurt: The words Çaycuma and
yoghurt can almost be identified with one another,
up to the point where the entrance of the city has a
statue of a water buffalo. Produced from a mixture
of the buffalo and cow milk, the Çaycuma yoghurt is
known for being an antioxidant. The yoghurt which is
filled with beneficial bacteria helps our bodies to get
rid of poisonous residue and regenerates cells.
Devrek Simit (bagel): Devrek Simit baked in
ancient ovens are not only sought after by the regions
locals, but also by visitors in the area. Devrek Simit
that is thicker and a lighter color than normal
traditional simit is always served warm and fresh.
Ereğli Osmanlı Strawberry: Its pink color,
average sized oval appearance, rich aroma and
mouth-watering smell, this fresh and delicious
strawberry is one of a kind in the world. The delicate
strawberry, best after the month of June, needs plenty
of special care by its producers, and is picked specially
at very early hours of the morning and sold in 1-2
hours after that. The life span of the strawberry
in open air is 15-20 hours, therefore it must be
consumed rapidly.

Konya büyük bir hazine. İmparatorluğa başkent olmuş
bir şehir. Kentin ticaret ve turizmdeki zenginliği
kendini, her dönem, ayrı ayrı hissettiriyor. Yazın
etkisi yavaş yavaş azalırken, sonbahar fırsatını en
iyi şekilde değerlendirip, yemyeşil bahçemizde
birbirinden keyifli düğün organizasyonları yapmaya
devam ediyoruz. Eylül ayında gerçekleştirilen
ve şehrin atmosferi ile bütünlük sağlayan Mistik
Müzik Festivali her geçen yıl daha popüler hale
gelirken, bu festival için gelen misafirlere Dedeman
Konya olarak ev sahipliği yapacak olmanın
mutluluğunu yaşıyoruz. Ekim ayı ise bizim için
kongre dönemi. Cumhurbaşkanlığı himayesinde
gerçekleştirilen “Uluslararası Selçuklu Kültür ve
Medeniyeti Bilim ve Düşünce Sempozyumu” bu
yıl yapacağımız en kapsamlı toplantı organizasyonu
olacak. Yoğun bir döneme girerken tüm Dedeman

What kinds of things await your guests in
this new season at Dedeman Konya Hotel &
Convention Center? Could you give us some
information as to how your hotel has prepared
for the new season?
Konya is a treasure. It is a city that was once
the capital of an empire. The town’s richness,
both commercially and touristically, makes itself
obvious each season. As summer slowly leaves
itself to fall, we continue to take advantage
of this season and organize enjoyable wedding
organizations in our luscious green garden. We
are happy to accommodate guests who visit Konya
to attend the Mystic Music Festival in September,
which grows more popular by the year. For us,
the month of October is the season of congresses.
Our most extensive conference this year will be the
“International Seljukid Culture and Civilization
Symposium-Science and Thought,” which will
be attended by the President. As we begin a busy
season, we carry out our services and works with
the understanding that representing our brand and
our city in the best way possible is not only of utter
importance but also our responsibility.

important to the couples as well as to their families and
close ones. We pay extremely close attention to every
detail so that these events can be special and our guests
that have specifically chosen us can bring their dreams
to reality. The appetizers, decoration, photography
shoots, accommodation for guests and all other services
and needs are met on time so that our guests can be
happy and comfortable. Their happiness also becomes
our happiness. The attention we receive from Japanese
tourist groups who take many photos and watch
weddings attentively makes us very happy.
Is there a special must-eat dish served in Dedeman
Konya that you recommend?
I would highly recommend the Dedeman Konya
rendition of Konya’s famous okra soup and Tirit Kebab.
Looking at your guest profile, who prefers
Dedeman Konya Hotel & Convention Center?
Those who come there on business or foreign/local
guests?
Our hotel mostly hosts those who visit Konya on
business. However, big tour groups that are in Konya
as part of an Anatolian tour, as well as those who are
visiting for the Mevlana Week, also prefer our hotel.
In addition to being a city with an exceptional
cultural legacy, Konya can also be regarded as the
center of tolerance. What would you specifically
recommend to our readers?
Konya is a very calm and peaceful city. The tolerant
nature of Hz. Mevlana as well as the positive outlook
of Nasrettin Hoca have almost leaked in to the genetics
of this city. Hz. Mevlana’s tomb, the ancient Roman
town of Sille, and Çatalhöyük, the city of the first
settlement in the world, are among the places you
should not miss. Visit Cemo or Havzan to get a taste
of Konya’s renowned meat bread, and head to one of
the nicest alternatives in town, Dedeman Konya – Roof
Restaurant to taste all of the other traditional flavors
of the region.

late to try. The Istanbul Public Theater, established in 2006
by Bahtiyar Engin, Yıldıray Şahinler, Kemal Kocatürk and
Levent Üzümcü, all of whom are actors with the Istanbul
City Theater, lets you delve into theater with the assistance of
experienced educators and guides you on the path to becoming
an actor or actress. We had a delightful chat with Bahtiyar
Engin, one of the founders of Istanbul Public Theater who
won the Afife Jale Best Supporting Male Actor award for the
play “Alevli Günler,” about acting and actors’ education.
Kendi tiyatronuzu kurma sürecinizden biraz
bahseder misiniz?
Could you tell us about the process of establishing your
own theater?
Tiyatromuzu kurmaya 2006 yılında yaşadığımız bir olayla
karar verdik. Devlet sanat ilişkisi, kurum tiyatrolarının siyasi
erk tarafından yönlendiriliyor olması sebebi ile istediğiniz
işleri her zaman yapamayabiliyorsunuz. Biz de kendimize
sözümüzü yasalar çerçevesinde daha rahat söyleyebileceğimiz
bir alan oluşturalım istedik. Asıl inandığımız, idealisti
olduğumuz, uğruna çok şey feda ettiğimiz işimizi yapalım
düşüncesi ile Yıldıray Şahinler ile birlikte 2006 yılında
İstanbul Halk Tiyatrosu’nu kurmaya karar verdik. Kadromuz
deneyimli oyunculardan oluşuyor, çünkü biz zaten şehir
tiyatrolarında uzun yıllardır tiyatro yapan oyuncularız.
Dışarıda tiyatro yapmaya karar verdiysek, yapacağımız işler
biraz daha anlamlı ve kaliteli olmalıydı. Butik bir iş olması
gerekiyordu. Bu anlayışla, İstanbul Halk tiyatrosuna dahil
olan tüm arkadaşlarımız mesleğinde iyi olmak zorunda.
Tiyatromuz o rol için en doğru oyuncu kimse ona ulaşmaya
çalışır. Tiyatroyu biz kurduk sadece biz oynarız
anlayışında değiliz.
We decided to establish our theater due to an experience we
had in 2006. The relationship of the government and art is
such that the government directs institutional theaters and
you can’t always do what you want to do. We wanted to
create a platform where we could express ourselves more freely
within the law. With the idea to do the job we’re idealistic
about and for which we sacrificed many things, we decided to
establish the Istanbul Public Theater together with Yıldıray
Şahinler in 2006. Our team consists of experienced actors
because we’re performers who’ve worked in city theaters for
long years. If we decided to do theater outside of those venues,
the works we perform would have to be more meaningful and
higher in quality. They would have to be boutique projects.
This is why all of our friends who are a part of the Istanbul
Public Theater have to be good at their jobs. Our theater tries
to contact the best performer for each role. We don’t have the
sense that, because we founded the theater, we should be the
only ones performing in it.
Your plays also feature performers we know from the television
screen such as Cem Davran, Erkan Can, Levent Üzümcü and
Dolunay Soysert.
We get some criticism because some of our actors are famous
on television. These actors are television stars because they’re
already really good. Yet their past involves a serious focus on
theater. For instance, Cem Davran has a theater past of 35
years. No one can dispute the theatric past of Erkan Can.
Levent Üzümcü, on the other hand, has been performing
heavily in city theaters for the past 15 years, taking on at
least two leading parts each year. The same goes for Dolunay
Soysert. Of course, television stars also contribute to the
theater stage. If our performers who are famous on television
get more of the public interested in theater, that means we
communicate our message to more people.

Sizce oyunculuk sonradan eğitimle öğrenebilen bir şey

Oyunlarınızda ekranlardan tanıdığımız Cem Davran,
Erkan Can, Levent Üzümcü, Dolunay Soysert gibi isimler
de yer alıyor.
Bazı oyuncularımıza televizyon ünlüsü olduğu için eleştiriler
geliyor. Bu isimler zaten çok iyi oldukları için televizyonda
da ünlü olmuş oyuncular. Ancak geçmişlerinde çok ciddi
bir tiyatro yatıyor. Örneğin, Cem Davran’ın 35 yıllık
tiyatro geçmişi var, Erkan Can’ın tiyatro geçmişini kimse
tartışamaz. Levent Üzümcü ise senede en az iki başrol olmak
üzere 15 yıldır şehir tiyatrolarında çok ciddi yük taşıyan bir
oyuncu. Dolunay Soysert de aynı şekilde. Tabiî ki televizyon
ünlülerinin tiyatroya katkısı da yok değil. Televizyon ünlüsü
oyuncularımız, halkın tiyatroya daha çok ilgi göstermesini
sağlıyorsa, sözümüzü daha çok insana iletiyoruz demektir.
Kendi tiyatronuzdan sonra kendi oyunculuk okulunuzu
da kurdunuz. Bu hep aklınızda olan bir şey miydi?
Oyunculuk okulu biraz ihtiyaçtan doğdu diyebiliriz.
Konservatuardan mezun olduktan sonra Müjdat Gezen Sanat
Merkezi’nde Savaş Dinçel’in yanında asistanlığa başladım.
Yıldıray Şahinler’le birlikte biz 20 yıldır eğitmenlik
yapıyorduk zaten. Akademi Kenterler’de eğitmenlik
yaptığımız sırada Akademi Kenterler kapandı. Eğitmenliğe
devam etmek için ya var olan kurumları seçecektik ya da
kendi okulumuzu kuracaktık. Uzun zamandır eğitmenlik
yaptığımız için öğrencilerimiz, onların yakınları ve henüz
bizden ders almamış insanların bizden talepleri vardı. Başka
bir tiyatroda eğitmenlik yapmaktansa kendi tiyatromuzun
alt yapısını da oluşturabilmek maksadı ile çıktık yola.
Bu okul olması gerektiği için, ihtiyaçtan doğdu. İlk sene
beklediğimizin üstünde bir sonuç aldık ve öğrencilerimizin
ilgileri bizi cesaretlendirdi, devam etmeye karar verdik.
Eğitimin içinde olduğumuzda biz kendimizi yeniliyoruz ve
bundan para kazanmanın ötesinde büyük bir zevk alıyoruz.
Ki çoğu zaman da yaptığımız eğitmenlik işinden para
kazanmadık. Halen de para için yapmıyoruz bu işi.
After your own theater, you also founded your own
acting school. Was this something that was always on
your mind?
We could say that the acting school was born out of necessity.
After graduating from the conservatory, I started as Savaş
Dinçel’s assistant in Müjdat Gezen art center. Yıldıray
Şahinler and I had already been teaching for 20 years.
Akademi Kenterler closed while we were teaching these, so
to continue teaching, we either had to pick from one of the
existing institutions or establish our own. Since we had been
teaching for a long time, our students, their relatives and
people who hadn’t yet taken lessons from us had requests.
So we embarked on the journey to establish a foundation for
our own theater instead of teaching in another theater. This
school was born out of need because it had to exist. The first
year, we received results that were above our expectations,
and our students’ interest encouraged us, so we decided
to continue. When we’re involved in teaching, we renew
ourselves and, beyond earning money for it, we enjoy it
immensely. Besides, most of the time, we didn’t earn money
from teaching. We still don’t do this job for money.
Do you think acting is something you can learn later
with education or does it absolutely require talent?
Acting is a profession that requires love and passion. It
requires high intelligence, the talent to observe and the
intelligence to blend observations and memories to create
art. If there is no talent, nothing can be done; however, if
there’s talent, however small, that can be developed. But if
there isn’t love or intelligence, talent won’t matter, either.
Another essential thing is self-discipline. Sometimes you see
that kids with great talent have weak self-discipline. This
brings setbacks with it. Not everyone has to be a theater
performer or an actor. Art requires the utmost discipline. If
you don’t have self-discipline, it’s impossible to be successful
in art.

gerektirir. Yetenek hiç yok ise yapacak bir şey yok ancak
küçük de olsa bir yetenek varsa o geliştirilebilir. Ama aşk
ve zekâ yoksa yetenek de bir işe yaramaz. Bir diğer olmazsa
olmaz ise öz disiplin. Bazen çok yetenekli çocukların
öz disiplinlerinin zayıf olduğunu görüyorsunuz. Bu da
başarısızlık getiriyor. Herkes tiyatrocu, oyuncu olmak
zorunda değil. Sanat fazlası ile disiplin ister. Öz disiplin yok
ise sanatta başarılı olmak imkânsız.
Oyunculuk eğitimi almak isteyenler nasıl seçim yapmalı?
Oyunculuk herkesin çok kolay hevesleneceği, çok cazip,
çekici ve insanı şımartan bir meslek. Oyunculuk eğitimi
almaya karar veren oyuncu adayları, öncelikle o kurumun
eğitmenlerini araştırmalı. Kriterleri öğrenci adayı kendi
belirlemeli, ne istediğini kendi iyi analiz etmeli ve o
isteklerine uygun ders veren insanlara yönelmeli. Ancak
ölçü eğitmenin televizyonda ünlü olması olmamalı. Çünkü
eğitmenlik ayrı bir donanım gerektirir. Öğrenci her şeyden
önce eğitmenine inanmalı. Diziler çok popüler oldu, ben de
oyuncu olayım derseniz, şansınız da varsa belki televizyonda
değerlendirilebilirsiniz. Yönetmenin ve ekibin başarısı
ile bir dönem için başarılı işler de çıkarabilirsiniz. Ama
kalıcı olabilmek için oyunculuğu gerçekten derinlemesine
araştırmak, öğrenmek gerekir.
Öğrencilerinizde aradığınız belirli kriterler var mı?
Biz sınav yapmıyoruz sadece mülakat yapıyoruz. Yaş sınırımız
yok, 7’den 77’ye herkes okulumuzun kapısını çalabilir.
Geçmişte içinde ukde kalmış, ben oyuncu olacaktım ama
olamadım, denemek istiyorum diyen herkesi kabul eden bir
okuluz. Tek bir sınıf ve 20 kişilik bir sınıfla eğitim veriyoruz.
Ancak benim ilk aradığım kriter öz disiplin. Gereken ilgiyi,
alakayı, çalışkanlığı gösterebilecek mi buna bakarım. Oyuncu
olarak kişi kendini mi çok sevecek, kendine mi hayran
olacak yoksa gerçekten sanatçı, yaratıcı mı olmak istiyor?
Kendine mi âşık yoksa sanata mı âşık? Bunları önemserim.
Okuldaki diğer öğrencilerimle karakter yapısının uyumu bile
kararımızda etkili olabilir.
How should those who want to receive acting training
make their selections?
Acting is something that everyone can easily aspire to; it’s
an enticing, attractive profession that spoils people. Acting
candidates who decide to receive acting training must first
research an institution’s educators. The student candidate should
determine the criteria himself; he should analyze well what he
wants and direct himself to people who teach according to those
desires. Yet the criterion shouldn’t be whether that educator is
famous on television. Because being an educator requires entirely
different equipment. Above all, the student should believe in his
educator. If you say to yourself, “television series have become
very popular, so I should be an actor, too,” and if you also
have luck, you might be put on television. You could also take
on successful jobs for a while thanks to the accomplishments of
the director and the team. But to be long lasting, you should
research and learn acting in depth.
Are there specific criteria you look for in your students?
We don’t hold exams, only interviews. We don’t have an age
limit. People of all ages, from 7 to 77, can knock on our
school’s door. We’re a school that accepts everyone who has a
yearning from the past and says, “I was going to be an actor and
couldn’t; I want to try it.” We teach in one classroom with 20
students. Yet the first criterion I search for is self-discipline. I
look at whether this person can show me the attention, care and
hard work that’s necessary. Will this person love himself a lot
and admire himself as an actor, or does he truly want to be an
artist, a creative person? Is he in love with himself or the art? I
care about these. Even this person’s harmony with other students
in my school could be a decisive factor in our decision.
What kind of education awaits your students? Who are
your educators?
We offer 6-month training with practical lessons geared directly
towards acting. For 6 months, we have a program on Saturdays
and Sundays that lasts 8 hours a week. When we do theater,
we relate art to real life. We believe that theater, as well as
all branches of art, should be related to real life and serve a
function in it. The art we do must benefit people who freeze to
death on the streets. Or it should add something beautiful to
people’s real lives. That’s why the education we offer in school
fits in this framework. The education we give should add serious

Doğrudan oyunculuğa yönelik pratik derslerle 6 aylık bir
eğitim veriyoruz. 6 ay boyunca cumartesi ve pazar günleri
olmak üzere haftada 8 saatlik programımız var. Biz tiyatro
yaparken sanatı gerçek hayatla ilişkilendiriyoruz. Tiyatronun
da, sanatın her dalının da gerçek yaşamla ilişkilenmesini ve
orda bir işe yaraması gerektiğini düşünüyoruz. Yaptığımız
sanatın sokakta donarak ölen insanlara bir faydası olması
lazım. Ya da insanların gerçek yaşamına bir güzellik katması.
Dolayısı ile okulda verdiğimiz eğitim de bu çerçevede
bir eğitim. Verdiğimiz eğitimin, öğrencilerimizin gerçek
yaşamlarına, aile, toplum ve sanatla ilişkilerine ciddi
erdemler katması gerekir. Okulumuzun eğitmenleri de
bu kriterle seçiliyor. Bugüne kadar okulumuzda Levent
Üzümcü, Yıldıray Şahinler, Murat Karasu ve ben eğitmenlik
yaptık. Gelecek sene Şebnem Sönmez de kadromuzda olacak.
Eğitmenlerimiz önce bizim saygı duyduğumuz insanlar olmalı
ki öğrencilerimiz de onlara saygı duysunlar.
Öğrencileriniz arasında hayatında radikal karar verip size
gelenler mutlaka olmuştur. Çok farklı kulvarlarda çalışıp
tamamen kendini sahneye adayan öğrencileriniz oldu mu?
Oldu tabii ki. 47 yaşında bir ressam öğrencimiz oldu. Hep
istemiş ama hayat başka taraflara sürüklemiş onu. Denemek
istedi. Biz onu da kabul ettik. 30’lu yaşlarında olup, başka
meslekleri icra edip, kendini daha iyi ifade etmek, daha
iyi konuşabilmek, beden dilini iyi kullanmak için gelenler
var. Bu sene iki avukat öğrencimiz vardı. Bunun dışında
konservatuara hazırlanan genç öğrencilerimiz var. Ancak
biz size ders veririz, bir sene sonra “star” olursunuz ya da
bir tiyatroda başrol oynarsınız diye bir garanti vermiyoruz.
Eğer öğrencinin öz disiplini sağlamsa, aradığımız kriterler
de varsa sene sonunda zaten o öğrenci benim tiyatromun
bir çalışanına dönüşecektir. Kaldı ki o öğrenciyi kimsenin
tutması mümkün değildir. Mutlaka fark edilecektir.
Son olarak, oyunculuk serüvenine yeni başlayacaklara
önerileriniz ne olur?
Hayatla ilgili olmayanlar bu meslekten uzak durmalı.
Oyuncu, Bulgaristan’ın para birimini ya da ekmeğin kaç
kuruş olduğunu bilmek zorunda. Şırnak’ta şehit olan 13
şehidin ailesinin ne hissettiğini duyumsayabilecek kadar
topluma yakın olmalı. Aksi halde yapacağı sanat sadece
süsleme olur. Ben dünyayı görüyorum, algıyorum ve
değişmesi gereken çok şey olduğunu düşünüyorum buna dair
de karnımda bir çift çözüm var diyorsa ve bundan gerçekten
eminse bu işe başlasınlar derim.

family, society and art. Our school’s educators are also chosen
based on the same criteria. Until today, people who’ve been
educators in our school include Levent Üzümcü, Yıldıray Şahinler,
Murat Karasu and myself. Next year, Şebnem Sönmez will be a
part of our team, as well. Our educators must first be people whom
we respect so that our students can respect them, too.
You must certainly have students who have made radical
decisions in their lives and come to you. Have you had
students who’ve worked in completely different fields and
then devoted themselves entirely to the stage?
Of course I’ve had students like that. We had a painter student
who was 47 years old. He always wanted to be an actor, but life
took him in a different direction, yet he still wanted to try it. We
accepted him. There are also students in their 30s who work in
different fields and come to express themselves better, speak better
or use their body language well. This year, we had two lawyer
students. Additionally, we have young students who are preparing
themselves for conservatory. Yet we don’t make the guarantee that
we’ll teach someone and a year later this person will become a
“star” or perform the lead role in a play. If the student has strong
self-discipline as well as the other criteria we’re looking for, at
the end of the year, that student will already become a member
of my theater. Plus, no one can hold back that student; he’ll
certainly be recognized.
Lastly, what would you recommend to people who are just
beginning their acting adventure?
People who aren’t involved in life should stay away from this
profession. An actor must know the currency used in Bulgaria
or how much bread costs. He must be close enough to society to
sense how the families of 13 veterans who died in Şırnak feel.
Otherwise, the art that he does will only be decoration. If he says,
“I see and perceive the world and think there are many things that
should change, and I have a knot in my stomach about this,” and
if he is truly sure about this, I would say that he should embark
on this profession.

A CULTURAL CENTER IN CHINA FROM
ZAHA HADID
Zaha Hadid’s first project in China, the 70,000 square-meter Guangzhou
Opera House, met with curious crowds this year. This cultural center
resembles two intertwined giant rocks from the outside, and it is located
on the shore of Pearl River. The center’s opening was held in the
1,800-person Grand Theatre with British choreographer Akram Khan’s
work, Vertical Road. The center’s ghost-like horizontal architecture
provides a contrast to the city’s architecture of skyscrapers. Guangzhou
Opera House is the largest performance center in South China and
the third largest in the country, after Beijing’s National Theatre and
Shanghai’s Grand Theatre; it undoubtedly gets quite a bit of attention
from visitors to the city...

NEW YORK BY GEHRY
HANOI MÜZESİ
Vietnam’ın başkenti Hanoi’deki 30.000 metrekarelik yeni
kültür merkezi, 2005 yılındaki uluslararası bir yarışma
sonucunda projeyi kazanan Alman GMP Architekten
mimarlık firmasının imzasını taşıyor. Inros Lockner
mühendislik şirketiyle ortak çalışma sonucu iki yılda
tamamlanan Hanoi Museum, geçtiğimiz yıl açıldı. Dört
katlı ters bir piramit şekline sahip olduğu için en üstten alta
doğru katların yüzölçümü küçülüyor. Bu özellik, gölgede
kalan alt katlarda, sanat eserlerinin güneş ışınlarına maruz
kalmasını da engelliyor. Yapay su göletleri, açık hava
sergileri için düzenlenmiş geniş alanlar ve geleneksel Hanoi
köy evleriyle oluşturulmuş bir park alanının tam ortasında

HANOI MUSEUM
The new 30,000 square-meter cultural center in Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital,
bears the signature of German GMP Architekten architecture firm, which
won the project as a result of an international competition in 2005.
Hanoi Museum, which opened last year, was completed in two years as
a collaborative effort with Inros Lockner engineering firm. Since it has
the form of a four-story upside-down pyramid, the floors get smaller
in surface area as you move down. This characteristic also prevents art
works on the lower floors from being subjected to sun rays. The museum
rises high right in the middle of a park area that also features artificial
ponds, spacious areas for open-air exhibitions and traditional Hanoi
village homes. There are four entrances to the museum from the park.
The first three levels host large exhibitions, while the fourth floor is home
to a conference hall, bureau, research rooms and a library.

gökdeleni Frank Gehry’in eseri. Yüzey formu, dalgalanan
bir kumaşı andıran paslanmaz çelikten yapı, bu kıvrımlı

ve birbirinden farklı planlara sahip 903 daireyi bünyesinde
barındırıyor. New York’a bir övgü niteliğindeki eseri
için Gehry şöyle diyor: “Bana göre tasarım, her zaman
binada yaşayacak kişilerin yaşam kalitesini yükseltmeye
odaklanmalı. Duvardan duvara pencereler sayesinde bu
binadaki tüm birimler de harika ışık alıyor ve insana,
New York’un enerjisi ve canlılığıyla sarılıp sarmalandığı
hissini veriyor.” Bu “dikey şehir”de yaşayanlar, sadece otel
servisi almakla kalmayacak, Gehry imzalı iç dekorasyon
unsurlarına da sahip olacak.
LA GAITE LYRIQUE
La Gaîté Lyrique, “lirik sevinç” anlamına gelen ismini, 18.
yüzyılda şu anki binanın yerinde kurulmuş bir tiyatrodan
alıyor. O zamandan beri birçok kez terk edilmiş ve
yorgun düşmüş yapı, mimar Manuelle Gaudrant’ın sekiz
senelik çalışmasıyla yeniden canlandı. Teknoloji ve sanatı
buluşturma misyonuna sahip olan mekan 1 Mart tarihinde
açıldı. Ulusal ve uluslararası arenada dijital kültürün bütün
formlarını araştıran merkezde; müzik, sinema, animasyon,
tiyatro, mimari, bilgisayar programcılığı, kodlama sanatı,
web, oyun ve moda alanları arasında yeni ilişkiler kuruluyor
ve sergi, konser, multimedya performansları, kısa ve uzun
metrajlı filmler ile izleyiciye sunuluyor. Çeşitli tasarım
ürünleri satan bir butiği bulunan mekânın bir vejeteryan
kafesi ve barı da bulunuyor.
LA GAITE LYRIQUE
La Gaîté Lyrique derives its name, which means “lyrical joy,” from a theater
constructed in the 18th century where the building now stands. This
exhausted structure was abandoned many times since then, yet it finds
new life following an eight-year effort by architect Manuelle Gaudrant.
The venue has a mission to bring together technology and art, and it was
opened on March 1. The center researches all forms of digital culture on a
national and international scale; here, new relationships are formed among
the fields of music, cinema, animation, theater, architecture, computer
programming, the art of coding, web, game and fashion. Audiences will
also find exhibitions, concerts, multimedia performances, short and long
films here. The venue features a boutique where various design objects are
sold in addition to a vegetarian cafe and bar.
NEW YORK BY GEHRY
The New York by Gehry skyscraper, which was chosen as the Western
Hemisphere’s tallest building with its 265-meter body in the past several
months, is Frank Gehry’s masterpiece. This structure’s surface form is
made out of stainless steel and resembles cloth waving in the wind;
thanks to this curvaceous surface, the building incorporates 903 rooms,
each of which offers spectacular city views and has a different floor plan.
Of his work that’s like a compliment to New York, Gehry says: “To me,
design must always focus on increasing the quality of life for people

ev sahipliğini yaptıkları geceye Ankara Valisi Alaaddin Yüksel’in

isimleri katıldı.
Sunuculuğunu TRT’nin ünlü spikeri Rahmi Aygün’ün yaptığı 45.
Yıl Daveti’nde “45’lik” teması misafirleri karşıladı. Dedeman
Otelleri’nin bulunduğu ülke ve yörelere özel lezzetler sunan
zengin menünün yanı sıra, görkemli 45. yıl pastası da kesildi.
60’lı ve 70’li yılların 45’liklerinde yer alan en bilinen şarkılarıyla
45’lik temasının vurgulandığı bu özel gecede, davetliler keyifli
saatler yaşadılar.
Dedeman Hotels and Resorts is Turkey’s first international hotels
chain that hasn’t compromised on its “traditional Dedeman
Hospitality” one bit since its establishment in 1966. The hotels
chain celebrated its 45th year on June 6, 2011 in Ankara, where
the first branch is located.
The hosts of the evening were Dedeman Holding Board of
Directors President Murat Dedeman, Dedeman Hotels & Resorts
International CEO Tamer Yürükoğlu and Dedeman Ankara General
Manager Nadir Kadakal. Also in attendance were Ankara Governor
Alaaddin Yüksel and various well known members of business and
society life from Ankara and Istanbul.
Famous TRT announcer Rahmi Aygün was the announcer for the
45th Year Invite, where guests were greeted with a “45rpm” theme.
The menu featured special flavors from countries and areas where
Dedeman Hotels are located, and a spectacular 45th year cake was
also cut. This evening emphasized the 45rpm theme by playing
well known songs from 45 rpm records of the ‘60s and ‘70s to let
guests experience enjoyable hours.

Dedeman Ankara greeted guests with its renewed facade, with the
evening held in the Garden area. In the speech he gave on the 45th
year celebration, Dedeman Hotels & Resorts International CEO Tamer
Yürükoğlu said, “Today, we’re rightfully proud to be one of the well-rooted
brands in Turkey in the tourism industry, as well as the most prevalent
hotels chain. Our journey began exactly 45 years ago, on June 6, 1966,
with the opening of Dedeman Ankara. We continued on our way by
opening hotels in Istanbul, Antalya, Cappadocia and other areas where no
investors went in those days, such as Palandöken, Rize and Diyarbakır,
and by taking on an entrepreneurial and pioneering role. Today, we serve
our guests with ‘the traditional Dedeman hospitality’ at 18 hotels in
4 countries and 16 cities in Turkey and abroad. In the second half of this
year, we’re adding two new five-star hotels to our chain. Dedeman Edirne
and Dedeman Zonguldak. In 2012, we’re planning to open Dedeman
Bostancı.
Tamer Yürükoğlu’ndan sonra konuşma yapan Dedeman Holding

edip onu mutlu etmeye uğraşıyorsak otele gelenlere de aynı şekilde
davranılması gerektiğini tüm çalışanlara daima telkin etmiştir. İşte o
günden bugüne, kurucumuz Mehmet Kemal Dedeman’ın sağlam bir
vizyonla açtığı yolda azimle ve inançla yürüdük; yakınmadık yekinmeye

Speaking after Tamer Yürükoğlu, Dedeman Holding Board of Directors
President Murat Dedeman expressed his excitement in these words:
“The foundation for Dedeman Group were laid in 1918 by my late father
Mehmet Kemal Dedeman, and Dedeman’s first entry to the field of tourism
happened in June 6, 1966 with Dedeman Ankara, which opened its doors
exactly 45 years ago today. Mehmet Kemal Dedeman considered one
man serving another to be a form of prayer, and he always warned all of
our employees that people staying in the hotels weren’t customers but
guests, and we should treat them the way we would want to treat guests
who come to our house. Since those days, we walked with diligence and
faith on the road that our founder Mehmet Kemal Dedeman opened with a
strong vision; we didn’t complain but made do and, starting with Dedeman
Ankara’s success, established the most prominent hotels chain in Turkey.

Turkish economy and Turkish tourism.”

Ankara’daki 16 okulun alan çalışmaları Dedeman Madencilik’
in katkılarıyla gerçekleşti.
Okullarda Orman Programı’nın en önemli kriterlerinden
biri olan alan çalışmaları Dedeman Madencilik’ in desteğiyle
Ankara’daki 16 okulda farklı tarih ve yerlerde gerçekleştirildi.
Orman Bölge ve İl Çevre ve Orman Müdürlükleri ile ortak
yürütülen çalışmalarda orman timleri kuruldu. Bu timler
biyolojik açıdan hassas bölgelerde öğrencilerle birlikte çeşitli
çalışmalar yapmalarının yanı sıra bölge haklarını da orman
eko-sistemi hakkında bilinçlendirdiler.
Önümüzdeki yıl da devam edecek olan bu programda
Okullarda Orman Programı koordinatör öğretmenleri
görevlendirilerek öğrencilerin bilinçlendirilmesi ve ekosistem çalışmalarının bir parçası olmalarının sağlanması
amaçlanıyor. Program kapsamında çalışmalarını sona erdiren
okullar ise Dedeman Madencilik’ e teşekkürlerini iletirken,
görevli öğretmenler de bu sene görev alan öğrencilerin sene
ye bu çalışmaya katılmak istediklerini belirtti.
The Dedeman Mining Group that has been working for the
past 64 years in order to bring Turkey’s riches from the
mines up to the bright of day is also the 2011 TÜRÇEV’s
“Forest Program For Schools’ national sponsor. The project
fieldwork of 16 schools around Ankara took place with the
help of Dedeman Mining.
One of the most important criterion of the ‘Forest Program
For Schools’ is the fieldwork section that with the support
of Dedeman Mining took place in 16 schools in different
areas and on different dates around Ankara. Teams were
formed during the operation that was a joint effort with the
Forest Area, Province and Forest Directorship. These teams
educated the children about certain biologically sensitive
areas as well learning the area laws and forest eco-systems.
The ‘Forest Program For Schools’ project that will also take
place next year is hoping that the teachers coordinating
the project will soon have the kids actually running the
program with them. As the project this year came to an end
the schools that took place thanked Dedeman Mining and
said that their students and teachers would be back next
year for more.

Food Weeks are starting at Dedeman Istanbul. Every week
starting from October 17th to December 12th, Dedeman will be
serving their guests the most delicious delicacies from various

unique dishes for each week. The chefs at Dedeman Diyarbakir
proudly host the Diyarbakir Food Week between October 17 and
23. This event kicks off Dedeman Istanbul Food Weeks, which

at Çeşme. The winner of the Çeşme race is
Kadir Akça. Can Tolon took the second place
and Ünal Şenbahar took the third. Kenan
Sofuoğlu, as being the winner of İstanbul race,
Melissa Tahincioğlu is the second and Dağhan
Ünlüdoğan took the third place at this race.
VI Challenge will continue on September 18th

Şehrin bütün parkları aynı anda üstlerine ince bir örtü
çekiverdiler. Komutanın emrine uyan erler gibi. Sıcak, hissini
sadece dökülen yaprakların renginde bırakarak, bir başucu
mektubuyla sessizce gitti. “10 ay sonra görüşürüz” …
Devrim, eskiz defterini, zincirlerini yağlamayı her seferinde
ertelediği bisikletinin arkasındaki telin üzerine lastikle bağladı.
Apartmanın ön merdivenlerinden elinde zıplatarak indirdi.
Kırmızı ışıktan faydalanarak caddeye hızlı bir giriş yaptı. Park
evine 3 km kadar bir uzaklıktaydı. Küçük bir çocukken de
bisikletle aynı parka giderdi. Tabii o zaman aynı mahallede
yaşayan kuzeni ve 2 arkadaşı daha eşlik ederdi ona. Kuzeni
büyük bir ilaç firmasında çalışıyordu şimdi. Bisikletini de satalı
çok olmuştu. Diğer ikisi de aynı şekilde büyük firmaların
florasan ışıkları altında hayatlarını kazanmaya çalışırken
kaçırıyorlardı sonbaharın gelişini. Kendisini şanslı hissederek
bir sırıtma salladı havaya.
Parkın içinde küçük bir alan mesire yeri gibi düzenlenmişti.
İğne yapraklıların kış aylarına direnci düşünülerek tahta
piknik masaları onların koruması altına verilmişti. Sabahın
ilk saatlerinde genelde pek konuk ağırlamazdı burası.
Birkaç temizlik görevlisi yerleri süpürür, tombul mahalle
kadınlarından oluşan bir grup; çene yapar, bütün etlerini

abandoned its feeling only in the color of falling leaves and left quietly
with a bedside letter that read “See you in 10 months...”
Devrim tied his sketchbooks with a piece of elastic to the wire on the
back of his bike whose chains he postponed oiling each time. He lowered
his bike to the street, bouncing it on the front stairs of the apartment
building. He took advantage of the red light to quickly enter the
avenue. The park was about three kilometers from his house. He used
to visit this same park with his bike as a young child, too. Of course,
two of his friends and his cousin who lived in the same neighborhood
would accompany him back then. Now his cousin worked in a large
pharmaceutical company, and he had long sold his bike. The other
two were likewise missing the arrival of autumn as they were trying to
make a living under the fluorescent lights of large companies. Devrim
considered himself lucky and grinned to the air.
A small section of the park was designed as a promenade. The resilience
of coniferous plants to winter months was taken into account while
situating the wooden picnic tables under the trees’ protection. This area
didn’t usually have many visitors in the early hours of the morning.
Several cleaning staff would sweep the ground, while a group of chubby
neighborhood women would gossip and walk fast, their flesh jiggling,

kadınlardan hoşlandığını anladığımız çaycıya bakmadan “Kadın
çizmiyorum, onların giydikleri kıyafetleri çiziyorum” dedi

kazanmıştı. Okula sadece bir sene devam etti. Tek ilgisini
çeken kampüsteki insanların nasıl giyindiği olunca ailesine
açılma kararı verdi. Tasarımcı olmak istiyordu: Kumaşların,
renklerin, dokuların, iplerin, püsküllerin, filelerin, payetlerin,
keçelerin, satenlerin içinde bir hayat kurmak istiyordu
kendisine. Ailesi önce dirense de annesinin yufka yüreği,
babasının memur kafasını biraz olsun yumuşatmayı başarmıştı.
O da bu sonuçtan bol sıfırlı bir mutluluk yakalayarak, şu an
dördüncü sınıfında olduğu özel moda okulunun koridorlarına
atmıştı kendini. İlk sınavda yaptığı çizimlerle burslu okuma
hakkı kazanmıştı. Babası anlamıyordu, ona göre bir erkeğin
dikiş dikmesi; kadıncaydı, tövbe tövbeydi, mert değildi,
bir garipti… Ama bu saçmalığın üzerine en azından para
vermemesi gerektiği için “Neyse” demişti.
Yetenekliydi belki de ama adına yakışır bir başarının
peşindeydi o. Tıpkı Armani, Chanel ya da Pucci gibi. Giorgio
Armani erkekleri vatkadan kurtarmıştı bir fırlatışta. Omuzları,
beyaz güvercin yapıvermişti avuçlarının içinde. Coco Chanel,
korselerin iplerini zarif bir el hareketiyle çözmüştü. Dişi
olmanın bir etekten geçmediğinin altını çiziyordu, yüksek belli
pantolonuyla demeçler verirken. Emilio Pucci siyah beyaz bir
dünyayı baskılar ve renklerle boyamış, Marilyn Monroe bile
son yolculuğuna çıkarken onun hayatını renklendirmesini ümit
ederek bir Pucci elbiseyle gömülmüştü.
İrice bir yaprak düşüncelerin arasında kayarak masanın üzerine
sırt üstü yayılıverdi. Bütün yeşilliğini kaybetmişti ama bitişin
verdiği huzur yüzüne al bastırmıştı sanki. Devrim’in gözü
önünde can verdi yaprak, huzurla ve saygıyla… Devrim
bu koca yaprağa öylece baktı. Parmak uçlarıyla okşadı sarı
damarları. Açık yeşil başlamıştı her şey bu yaprak için, koyu
yeşillerde olgunluğun hazzını yaşamıştı, sarılar gelmişti ve
hayatının sonbaharında kırmızı bir leke bırakmıştı dünyaya.
Devrim kırmızı bir leke bırakmak istedi. Şu anda açık yeşil
olmanın tadını çıkartarak…
and a few couples from school would perch on the benches to get lost
in each other’s warmth. Devrim removed his sketchbook from the back
of the bike and placed it in the middle of the table. He removed the
protective cover. He then took out his pencils and color pencils from
his backpack and lined them up next to the notebook with the air of
a painter. Frequenters to the park were accustomed to seeing him like
this. The kid working in the shop brought a tea without asking and left
it on the table, and Devrim reciprocated by giving him a lira. The kid
who brought the tea looked over Devrim’s notebook and giggled, “Bro,
do you draw these women all day? They’re so frail.” Devrim didn’t even
look at the tea kid, whom we understood likes plump women, when he
said, “I don’t draw women; I draw the clothes they wear.”
“Ooh, so you’re like that fashion designer with the weird mustache, is
that it bro?”
“You know, he’s on the TV a lot; he’s got a bunch of rings...”
“Dude, why don’t you just bring me another tea and mind your own
business?”
After getting distracted by the meaningless chatter of the tea boy,
Devrim reburied his head in the notebook. During his university
entrance exams, Devrim had succumbed to his family’s request and
received enough points to study Business, something he didn’t want
at all. He went to school for only one year. When the only thing
that interested him was how people in the campus dressed, he decided
to open up to his family. He wanted to be a designer: he wanted to
build himself a life among fabrics, colors, textures, strings, tassels,
mesh, sequins, felt and satin. Even though his family was resistant at
first, his mother’s soft heart managed to somewhat soothe his father’s
government clerk mentality. He withdrew a happiness from this result
with lots of zeros attached to it and found himself in the corridors
of the private fashion school, where he was currently a fourth year
student. He was able to receive scholarship thanks to his drawings in
the first exam. His father didn’t understand; he thought a man sewing
was womanly, a sin, something for sissies and just plain weird... But
he said “whatever,” relieved that he at least didn’t have to pay for this
nonsense.
He was perhaps talented, but he was after a kind of success that would
suit his name. Like Armani, Chanel or Pucci. Giorgio Armani had
relieved men of shoulder pads with one fell swoop. He had transformed
shoulders into white doves within the palm of his hand. Coco Chanel
had undone corsets’ strings with an elegant hand gesture. She gave
speeches, clad in high-waisted pants, in which she underscored that
femininity wasn’t about just a skirt. Emilio Pucci colored a black-andwhite world with prints and colors; even Marilyn Monroe was buried in
a Pucci dress with the hope that it would lend color to her life on her
last journey.
A large leaf slid between his thoughts and spread out, face up, on the
table. It had lost all of its green, but the peace of the finish had given
it a red tint of sorts. The leaf gave its life right before Devrim’s eyes
with peace and respect... Devrim sat looking at this large leaf. He
caressed the yellow veins with his fingertips. Everything had started out
pale green for this leaf; it had experienced the pleasure of maturity in
dark greens, with the yellows following and then, in the autumn of its
life, it left a red stain on the world.
Devrim wanted to leave a red stain by enjoying being pale green now...
