Adını bir devre vermiş, doğu kültüründe ve mitolojilerinde özgün bir yere sahip özel bir çiçektir, lale…
Bir yaprağın üzerindeki çiğ tanesine düşen yıldırımın izi olduğu rivayet edilir. Anadolu topraklarında
yeniden doğan, Selçuklu ve Osmanlı’nın elinde ebru olan, saraylarda ve camilerde çini olan lale,
zengin kültürümüzün nadide bir parçasıdır. Fetih’le birlikte İstanbul’a gelen lale, en güzel İstanbul
topraklarında büyüdü, İstanbul’un çiçeği oldu. Fetih’ten sonra Avrupalı oldu, dünyalı oldu.
2006 yılında “İstanbul lalesiyle yeniden buluşuyor” sloganıyla
düzenlediğimiz İstanbul Lale Festivali ile laleyi, ait olduğu, çok sevdiği
topraklarla yeniden buluşturduk. Aradan geçen sekiz yılda lale, daha
önceleri olduğu gibi, İstanbul’da yine baharın habercisi oldu. Her bahar
İstanbul’un sokaklarını, caddelerini, meydanlarını süsledi. Her bahar
dört bir köşesinde milyonlarca lalenin açtığı İstanbul’da, şimdi 5. Dünya
Lale Zirvesi’ne ev sahipliği yapacak olmanın heyecanı ve gururunu
yaşıyoruz.
Bu vesileyle Asya ve Avrupa kıtalarını birleştiren ve aynı zamanda gerçek
bir barış kenti olan İstanbul’da, doğal ve tarihi güzelliklerinin keyfini
çıkarmanızı ve güzel zamanlar geçirmenizi diliyorum.
The Tulip is a special flower that has a unique place in Eastern cultures and mythologies; it is a flower
that has given its name to an entire era…It is said that the flower is the mark of a lightning that struck
a drop of dew on a leaf… The flower that was born in Anatolia, that became a marble pattern in the
hands of Seljukids and Ottomans and that became a tile in the mosques is a precious part of our rich
culture. The tulip came to Istanbul with the city’s conquest; it found its finest home in Istanbul and
became the flower that symbolizes Istanbul. After the conquest, it spread to Europe and to the
world.
During the Istanbul Tulip Festival in 2006, we reintroduced the tulip to its favorite land, the land
where it belongs, with the slogan “Istanbul meets its tulip once again.” Over the past eight years, the
tulip once again became the messenger of spring as it once was. The flower decorated Istanbul’s
alleys, streets and squares each spring. We are excited and proud to host the 5th World Tulip Summit
in İstanbul, where millions of tulips blossom in all corners of the city each spring.
I hope you use this opportunity to enjoy the historical and natural heritage of the city and to enjoy
yourself in Istanbul, a true city of peace that unites the continents of Asia and Europe.
LÂLEYE DAİR
Lâle, Türklerin yeryüzünde izledikleri yolda onlara yoldaşlık eden, Orta Asya’dan çıkarak Anadolu
topraklarına yerleşen ve buradan da 16. yüzyılda Avrupa’ya yayılmış pek özel bir çiçektir. Anadolu’da
ve ardından İstanbul’da kimliğini bulmuştur lâle.
Osmanlıca yazıldığında Allah ve lâle ile hilâl sözcükleri ebced hesabıyla aynı değeri, 66’yı verir; bu
durum lâleyi özel bir yere taşır. Çiçek sevgisinin bir uygarlık göstergesi olarak görüldüğü Osmanlı
kültüründe lâle 16. yüzyıldan itibaren gülün yanı sıra nadide bir güzellik ve aşk simgesine dönüşmüş,
ıslah edilip türleri seçilmiş, yeni yeni lâleler yetiştirilmiş ve isimlendirilmiştir. Lâle-i Rûmî (Osmanlı
lâlesi / İstanbul lâlesi) diye isimlendirilen lâle de bu zamanda ortaya çıkar. Anlamlarının yanı sıra
tasarıma yakışan biçimiyle duruşu, lâlenin gerek görsel sanatlarda, el sanatlarında, gerekse edebiyatta
pek zengin bir esin kaynağı olmasına yol açmıştır.
Osmanlı’da 18. yüzyılın başlarında, yaklaşık olarak 1718-1730 yılları arasında yaşanan yenilikçi
dönem, en somut yansımasını çok değer verilen lâlede bulduğundandır ki, sonradan “Lâle Devri”
tanımı uygun düşer bu döneme. 19. yüzyılda İstanbul bahçelerinin giderek gelenekselden Avrupa
modellerine doğru değişime uğramasıyla lâle tarhları yerini farklı yaklaşımlara bırakmışsa da, bu çiçek
yeni anlayıştaki bezemelerden eksik olmaz.
Bugün lâle ülkemizin tanıtımı için seçilen simgedir. Ödüllerde ve logolarda da lâle ilk akla gelen
motiftir. Ve İstanbul artık baharda rengârenk bir Lâle Festivali yaşamakta, “yeniden açmaktadır” lâle.

About Tulip
The tulip is a very special flower that accompanied Turks on their route across the world, a flower
that originated in Central Asia and settled in Anatolian lands before spreading into Europe; it is the
flower of these lands. The tulip found its identity in Anatolia and later, in Istanbul.
In Ottoman, the words Allah, lâle (tulip) and hilâl (crescent moon) equate to the same numerical
value of 66 when calculated with the abjad system which is a decimal numeral system. In Ottoman
culture, where the appreciation of flowers was seen as an indicator of civilization, the tulip, alongside
the rose, transformed into symbols of precious beauty and love.
The tulip was improved and certain varieties were selected, many hitherto non-existent varieties of
tulips were cultivated and each new cultivar was named. The tulip named Lâle-i Rûmî (also known as
the ‘Ottoman Tulip/Istanbul Tulip’) emerged during this period, too. Alongside its many meanings, its
design-friendly appearance has transformed the tulip into a rather rich source of inspiration in visual
arts and crafts and also in literature.
It is because the early 18th century Ottoman Empire, the innovative period experienced around
1718-1730, found its most tangible reflection in the prized tulip that this period was later suitably
identified as the Tulip Era. Despite the change from the traditional to the European model in the
gardens of Istanbul in the 19th century and the transformation of those precious tulip beds with new
approaches to gardening, the tulip is ever evident in the decorations of this era’s new understanding
of aesthetics.
Today, the tulip is the promotional symbol of our country. The tulip is also the first motif that comes
to mind in award ceremonies and logos. Istanbul now enjoys a colourful Tulip Festival every spring,
and the tulip “blossoms ever again”.

Lale bahçeleri, köşkleri ve eşsiz Boğaz manzarası ile İstanbul'un en güzel korularından biridir Emirgan. Her

baharın müjdesidir. Bülbülleri, bin bir çeşit çiçekleri ve 120'den fazla ağaç türü ile Emirgan Korusu, her yıl Nisan
ayında gerçekleştirilen İstanbul Lale Festivali'ne de ev sahipliği yapmaktadır.
Emirgan Woods is one of the most beautiful locations in Istanbul with its tulip gardens, pavilions and its
unsurpassed view of the Bosphorus. The Woods take on different shades of beauty as season change. The
festival of colors that one sees in the thousands of tulips in the Woods tells Istanbul that spring has come.
With its nightingales, thousands of flowers and over 120 different species of trees, the Emirgan is also home
to the annual İstanbul Tulip Festival that takes place in April.
