HOW TO ACCESS AND USE THE VOCABULARY FLASHCARDS AND THE AUDIOBOOKS
The links called “Vocabulary cards” and “Audiobooks” can be found both on METU DBE Student’s page
and DBE SAC website. Please read the guide to learn how to make use of them while studying at DBE.
Vocabulary flashcards:
Online vocabulary cards have been prepared for DBE students to study the active vocabulary in their
coursebooks. In order to access and use them, please follow the steps below:
1- Go to SAC online (http://144.122.235.233/new/saceas/)
or METU student’s page “group pages” link (http://www.dbe.metu.edu.tr/student/groups/group.htm)
and click on the link of the coursebook that you want to study.
2- Click on “alphabetical order” to see all the units of the book in alphabetical order. Click on the unit
that you want to study. You will see the active vocabulary items of that unit and 6 types of activities
to study those vocabulary items.
3- The first activity is the basic activity that presents vocabulary:

Click on “flashcards” to see the term; click the card to flip and see the picture, definition,
collocations, example sentence and the part of speech.

If you want to see both the definition and the term, click on the “both” option on the right. If
you want to see the definition first, click on the “definition first” option.

Click on the “play audio” option if you want to hear the American pronunciation of the word.

If you want the cards to move automatically, click on the “play” icon and the cards will move
automatically.

If you want to study only some of the words in a set, you can click on the “star” icons on the cards
to choose the words that you want to go on studying.
The other activities (“learn”, “speller” and “quiz”) are designed to revise the definition, pronunciation and
the spelling of the words. The last 2 activities (“scatter” and “space race”) are actually vocabulary games
that you can play to revise vocabulary.
You can use the cards on your PC, tablet or your smart phone. (You can find the cards on the websites
mentioned above , or you can download the Quizlet application. Click on the “search” icon and type in
“sacdbe”, then tap “classes”. You will see the cards of METU DBE.)
If you want to study in a traditional way, you can print out the cards. Click on the “print” option on the
right and you will see various printing options. You may print small or larger cards (one sided or double
sided) or “vocabulary tables”. Enjoy your vocabulary learning adventure, and good luck!
Audiobooks:
The audiobooks have been prepared based on the vocabulary and the language expressions in the dialogues
of the three coursebooks that we use in DBE: Top Notch Fund, LL PIN and OLR 0.5.
Simply download the mp3 files of the audiobooks and listen to the vocabulary and the conversation models
while commuting, doing sports etc, and follow the instructions in the audio files. Good luck and have fun!

DBE’de okurken bu linklerdeki materyalleri nasıl
kullanacağınızı öğrenmek için lütfen bu rehberi okuyun.
Kelime kartları:
Online kelime kartları, DBE öğrencilerinin çalışacağı ders kitaplarındaki öğrenmekten sorumlu oldukları
kelimeleri çalışmaları için hazırlandı. Kelime kartlarına ulaşmak ve kullanmak için aşağıdaki adımları takip
edin:
1- METU DBE SAC websitesine (http://144.122.235.233/new/saceas/ veya METU DBE öğrenci
sayfasındaki
Grup Sayfaları’na girin (http://www.dbe.metu.edu.tr/student/groups/group.htm), ve
istediğiniz ders kitabının linkine tıklayın.
2- Kitabın ünitelerini alfabetik olarak görebilmek için ekranın Sağ üst köşesindeki “alphabetical” tuşuna
basın. Sonra çalışmak istediğiniz üniteye tıklayın. Karşınıza o ünitenin kelimeleri ve o kelimeleri
çalışmanızı sağlayacak 6 tür aktivite çıkacaktır.
3- İlk aktivite (“flashcards”), kelimeyi tanıtan temel aktivitedir:

“Flashcards” yazısına tıklarsanız, çalışacağınız terimi /kelimeyi görürsünüz. Kartın üzerindeki
“click to flip” yazısına tıklarsanız, kartın diğer yüzünü görürsünüz: varsa resmi, kelimenin türü,
tanımı, eşdizimlileri ve bir örnek cümle.

Önce tanımı, resmi vs. görmek ve sonra terimi görmek istiyorsanız, sağdaki “definition first”
opsiyonuna tıklayın.

Kelimenin okunuşunu (Amerikan aksanı) öğrenmek için, sağdaki “play audio” opsiyonuna tıklayın.

Kartların otomatik olarak ilerlemesini istiyorsanız, sağdaki üçgen play ikonuna basın.

Bir setteki kelimelerden sadece bazılarını çalışmak istiyorsanız, kartların üzerindeki yıldız
ikonuna basarak, çalışmaya sadece o kartlarla devam edebilirsiniz.
Diğer aktiviteler de (“learn”, “speller”, “test”) kelimenin yazılışını, okunuşunu, tanımını vs. öğrenmeniz için
tasarlanmıştır; son 2 aktivite (“scatter” ve “space race”) oyun formatında size egzersiz yaptırmak üzere
tasarlanmış durumdadır.
Kartlarınızı bilgisayarda, tabletinizde veya akıllı telefonunuzda çalışabilirsiniz. (Kartları belirtilen
websitelerinde bulabilirsiniz, veya Quizlet uygulamasını indirebilirsiniz. Arama amaçlı büyüteç ikonuna
basın, “sacdbe” yazın ve “classes”’a tıklayın: METU DBE’nin kartlarını görebilirsiniz. )
Geleneksel olarak elinizde bulunan kart veya kelime tablolarıyla çalışmak istiyorsanız kartları
yazdırabilirsiniz. Bunun için sağ üst köşedeki “print” opsiyonuna basın ve bir mod seçin. Kelime tabloları
elde etmek için “tables” modunu seçin. Kart yazdırmak için “cards” modunu seçin. Küçük (“small”) veya büyük
(“large”) kart boyutu seçebilir, çift taraflı (“double-sided) yazdırabilirsiniz. Kelime öğrenme serüveninizde
iyi eğlenceler, ve bol şans!
