To Have
There is no verb to have in Turkish. In order to say what you have and what you don’t
have, the possessive is used in conjunction with var and yok.
If you want to say I have a car, you need to say arabam var, which literally means “there
is my car” or “my car exists”.
Örnekler:
çocuğum yok
__I don’t have any children
_
otelin plaji var
__
_
sigaranız var mı?
__
_
bugün çok işim var
__
_
param yok

Possessive of a possessive
Posessives can be used in a chain to indicate the ownership of several degrees.
Remember to put the possessor endings as well as the possessed endings.
In order to say my father’s car:
Start with my father:
Babam
And then add third person possessor ending to the above and the possessed ending to car
to get my father’s car:
Babamın arabası
Örnekler:
öğretmenimizin
__
_
öğretmenimizin evi
__
_
babamın evinin kapısının rengi

Possessive with the location –de ending
–de can be added to a possessive noun to indicate the location of an object where the
location belongs to someone or something.
If you want to say “in my car” work out the Turkish for “my car” and then add the locative
suffix:
arabam
my car
arabamda
in my car
çantam arabamda
my bag is in my car
evimde üç oda var
__
_
Third person ending –(s)i needs a buffer when adding –de to the end of the word and the
buffer letter used is “n”
