Sinematek - Alanya
Sinematek derneði olarak 1994 yýlýndan beri Alanyada çeþitli etkinlikler düzenlemekteyiz. Yola
çýkýþ hedefimiz Alanyada sinema salonu olmamasýndan dolayý oluþan açýðý kapatmaktý. 2001
yýlý da dahil olmak üzere 7 sene açýk hava film gösterimleri ve tiyatro etkinlikleri, sergiler
düzenledikten sonra Alanyada sinema salonlarýnýn açýlmasý ile bu konudaki misyonumuzu
tamamladýðýmýzý görüp baþka bir dala, belgesel film gösterimlerine yöneldik. Böylece dünya
kültürel tarihini ve yaþanmakta olan toplumsal gerçekleri yansýtan birbirinden güzel ulusal ve
uluslararasý belgesellerle ilk yolculuðumuz 2002 yýlýnda baþladý. Alanya Ticaret ve Sanayi Odasý,
Belgesel Sinemacýlar Birliði, çok deðerli film yönetmenlerimiz, Alanya Belediyesi, sponsorlarýmýz
ve siz izleyicilerimizin desteði ile bu yýl Belgesel Film Festivalimizin 8.sini düzenliyoruz. Geçen
sene ilkini düzenlediðimiz eðitim amaçlý belgesel atölye çalýþmamýzý bu sene de tekrar ederek,
kamera önü ve kamera arkasý ile ilgilenen izleyicilerimizi eðitim veren yönetmenlerimizle
buluþturmaya devam edeceðiz.
Gelecek günlerde tarih ve denizin bir arada yaþadýðý Alanyamýzýn yurt dýþýndaki tanýtýmýný belgesel
filmler ve kültür alýþveriþinin yapýlabileceði farklý bir platforma, Uluslararasý Belgesel Film Festivalini
taþýmak hedefindeyiz. Bu hedefimizi gerçekleþtirmemizde yardýmlarýný eksik etmeyen kurumlarýmýza,
sponsorlarýmýza ve siz deðerli izleyicilerimize yeniden teþekkür eder, keyifli seyirler dileriz.

As the Association of Sinematek we have been organizing various activities in Alanya since
1994.The reason to have these organizations was that there werent any theaters in Alanya and
we wanted to compensate it. We organized outdoor (open air) movie and theatre shows for
seven years, including 2001. After having organized various activities and having been opened
some theaters, we decided that we had completed our mission. And then we headed for another
branch, The Documentary Film Show . So our first journey with different beautiful national and
international documentaries started in 2002 to show the worlds cultural history and to reflect
the social realities that are being lived.
Last year we have organized the first training, this year by repeating our documentary work
shop, camera and camera back with interested in front of the monitor, the director of education
meeting we continue to provide.
This year we are organizing the 8th of Documentary Film Festival with the support of Alanya
Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Association of Documentary Filmmakers, precious
documentary film directors, the Municipality of Alanya, our sponsors and with you, our viewers.
In the following days our aim is to advertise Alanya, in which you can live both history and sea,
in foreign countries by carrying it to a different platform, to the International Documentary Film
Festival, where you can deal with documentary film and cultural activities. Wed like to thank to
the associations that help us, to our sponsors and you, to our precious viewers again for letting
us achieve our aims. Enjoy yourselves

Güzel bir yaz günü Vakfýkebir Kasabasýnýn
Dutluk Plajýnda, neþeyle baðrýþan çocuklar,
top oynayan, horon tepen gençler,
güneþlenenler, yüzenler Bir kaç yüz metre
uzakta, onlarca kamyonun sahile boca ettiði
kayalarý denize dolduran iþ makineleri.Koyun
diðer ucunda ise otoyolu yine ayný
dalgalardan korumak için yapýlan dalgakýran
inþaatlarý. Doðal limanlarýn ve balýkçý
barýnaklarýnýn otoyol yapýmý yüzünden yok
olmasýyla kendilerine yeni yerler arayan
balýkçýlarýn, takalarýný karayoluyla taþýmalarý
ve trajikomik öyküleri... Karadeniz halkýnýn,
yol yapma bahanesiyle denizinden
koparýlmasýnýn hikâyesi.

Subject of the film
On the black sands of Dutluk beach local
residents enjoy the final days of summer, as
they have for generations. Fisherman near
Trabzon are counting their last catch and
wondering how they will survive. All try to ignore
the reality that these treasured shores are
doomed as trucks have begun pouring tons of
rock into the sea along the five-mile-long coast
of Vakfikebir, irreversibly destroying the shoreline
to create a new highway. A culture shaped by
the sea is on the brink of extinction. The new
highway will stand like a wall between a seafaring
people and the wild waves of the Black Sea
they have sailed for centuries.

The importance of nature in human life is proved
once again when a hydro electrical central is
wanted to be built at Fýrtýna Vadisi, one of the
most beautiful parts of Black Sea. People living
here for hundred-years were witnessing the
murder of this great natural wonder which was
a natural park, at the same time they were forced
to leave this land where they live. Details of 6
year enduring juridical struggle and law cases,
feelings and opinions of the community, our
natural beauties that has been looted for
economic rants in these days of global
warming Citizen Mustapha is a film made with
the voice of the public and the environmentalist
who oppose what was happening.

Yýldýz, 1965 yýlýnda Erzurumun bir köyünde
doðar. Yýldýz 16 yaþýna geldiðinde
kendisinden oldukça büyük yaþtaki dayýsýnýn
oðlu ile evlendirilir. Ýstanbulda bir
gecekonduda iki çocukla birlikte oldukça
güç koþullarda yaþamlarýný sürdürmeye
çalýþýrlar. Kocasýnýn eve karþý sorumsuzluðu
ve doðru dürüst çalýþmamasý, Yýldýzý iþ
arayýþýna yöneltir. Bu süreç içerisinde dört
duvarýn dýþýnda da bir hayat olduðunu görür.
Bastýrýlan öðrenme ve merak duygusu yavaþ
yavaþ açýða çýkar. Hayata ve kendisine
karþý bir sorgulama sürecine girer. Bu
süreçte Yýldýz, baþta kocasý ve ailesinden,
yoðun bir baský ve þiddet görür. Fakat hayat
ile kurduðu yeni bað geliþtikçe, bu þiddete
karþý koymaya baþlar ve hayatý tamamen
deðiþir.

Subject of the film
Yýldýz is born in 1965, in a village of Erzurum.
When Yýldýz is sixteen, she is forced to
marry her uncle's son who is very older than
her. They try to sustain their lives in a shanty
house in Ýstanbul with two children under
very difficult conditions. Because of her
husband's irresponsibility and laziness,
Yýldýz has to look for a job. Meanwhile, she
discovers the existence of a very different
life than her own life which is surrounded
by four walls. Her repressed curiosity for
learning begins to appear slowly. And she
enters into a period of questioning her life
and herself. During this period, she is
exposed to her husband's and her family's
pressure mad violence. However, with her
developing connection with life, she resists
to this violence and her life changes
thoroughly.

Subject of the film
The film depicts the lifelong struggles of Ankine,
an Armenian canto artist, through her family life
and the environment she lives in. Ankines
struggle began with her growing interest in
canto. Her family did not approve of her interest
in music and dancing, and when she got married
to a Muslim man, she faced additional religious
and cultural conflicts.

O sýrada Dünya Barýþ Konseyi yöneticisi de
olan Nâzým Hikmet, 1959 yýlýnda
gerçekleþen Küba Devriminin seyrini ve
kazanýmlarýný yerinde görmek üzere, 1961
yýlýnýn Mayýs ayýnda Kübaya gider.
Kübadaki gözlemleri, onun en önemli þiirleri
arasýnda yer alan Havana Röportajý ve
Saman Sarýsý þiirlerine ilham verir.
Nâzýmýn Küba Seyahati filmi, bugüne
kadarki biyografi çalýþmalarýnda çok fazla
üzerinde durulmayan bu yolculuðu gün

Subject of the film
Nazým Hikmet, the great poet of equity,
freedom and the Turkish language receives
an invitation from Nicolas Guillen, his Cuban
poet friend. Being one of the directors of
the World Peace Council back then, Hikmet
goes to Cuba to observe the progress and
achievements of the Cuban Revolution of
1959. His observations in Cuba inspire
Havana Röportajý and Saman Sarýsý, two
most important poems of him.
The Voyage of Nazým to Cuba illuminates
this journey of which Nazým Hikmets
biographies hardly ever featured to date.

In this documentary, you will travel through the
memory of Mustafa Kemal ATATURK, the
founder of Turkish Republic and one of the
towering figure of twentieth century. Unlike similar
documentaries, this is an objective visual
expression in a poetic approach of Ataturks life
and lifelong experiences based on his letters,
memories of himself and his companions,
testimonies of close friends and relatives
including Ülkü who has been one of Atatürks
very few happiness during his painful dying
days at the palace of Dolmabahçe. From his
childhood days of Mustafa through the epic
Ataturk days of independence war,
subsequent establishment of the modern Turkish
Republic and country-wide reformist
modernization campaign, this documentary
observes life of a worldwide leader, not only
being twentieth centurys greatest military
tactician and also a genius leaders perspective,
but in his very humanist side.

Tuzla Cemetery overlooks the Dockyard
Region. Walk down the hill where the
cemetery is located. Here is the vast army
territory on the left. Full of green and free
from human. Then the ferroconcrete
apartments begin. From seven in the morning
onwards, the ones who are working outside,
in the dockyards, in the leather and supplier
industry, empty the houses of the laborers
working in Tuzla Basin. Longings for families
and the bachelor rooms filled with beds
mingle with the family houses. Keep walking
down through the hill: workshops
manufacturing the little parts of a ship, never
ending noise of E-5 Ýçmeler Bridge, never
empty laborer market at the cross roads, the
sound of the commuter train Pass the
Ýçmeler Station and here is Aydýnlý Bay, full
of almost every dockyard of Turkey. Workers
passing through forty-eight different doors
ever day, hundred men cranes, steel sheets,
and the speed and sweat merging them into
one. The cigarette butt falling on the floor is
the time unit of the dockyards, their worry
are death and living, their hope and pain are
the hope and pain of ours. Tuzla Cemetery
overlooks the Dockyard Region.

Beden kavramýný insan saplantýlarý çerçevesinde
ele alan bu belgesel film, aslýnda hepimizin farklý
nedenlerle er geç yaþadýðý; ne kadar sakýnsak
da peþimizi býrakmayan takýntýlarý, korkularý,
kuþkularý, endiþeleri, kararsýzlýklarý ve bunlarýn
ardýndan içine düþülen çýkmazlarý þiþmanlýk
üzerinden anlatmaya çalýþýyor.
Sonucunu bildiðimiz, nedenini bulamadýðýmýz
sorunlarla karþý karþýyayken yaþanan duygusal

Subject of the film
Hunger and humiliation, marginalisation and
mutilation, robbery and rape. Every year
thousands of migrants leave their families and
homes in Central America to try and make a life
for themselves in 'the North'. Staking their all on
a one-way trip to the Promised Land, they
encounter abuse, extortion and despair on their
way through Mexico. Authorities and gangs who
take advantage of their insecure situation, thirst
and starvation in jail cells, and desolation as
they travel further away from what they know.
But their hope for a better, worthier existence
carries them forward. This film captures the
destinies of a few of many thousands of people
who put their lives on the line for a dream they
can never be sure to reach.

Subject of the film
Water nymph Sinope comes away from the sea.
She finds water, which flows in to the sea. She
follows the riverbed and she reaches the main
waterfall. Then, Nymph turns into water. Sky
washes the nature. So the life stays on the water.
Documentary film, modelling the Sinope symbol,
explains the relation of water with nature, power
of water, variety of water and Sinop (ErfelekTatlýca waterfalls) -which presents the most
suitable show about water.

This is a sincere student film reflecting the
difficulties and prejudices that physically
disabled young people go through as well as
their relationship with their families by picturing
their different lives
The 53 minute film consists of 6 episodes: "Living
within colors; purple for instance", "What matters
is not being disabled but to overcome it", "Wish
the world were flat", "To know how important it
is to be healthy", "Just two seconds" and "Every
person that walks have the chance to become
handicapped".
The film draws attention to the fact that will power
is much more powerful than all the disabilities
by telling the stories of the ones that overcome
all obstacles, their desire and perseverance to
pursue the life that goes on out there and more
importantly how courageous they are in every
aspect of life

Every week, TranAsia train, carries wagons of
stories between two neighbouring countries
Turkey and Iran...
TranAsia is different than all the other trains.
Because it travels between two neighbouring
Eastern countries whose relationship revolve
around the border line between alliance and
enmity. The people of these two countries
alienate each other despite their mutual values,
mutual past and being the oldest neighbours.
The film intends to tell the minimal but original
stories of TransAsia passengers along with these
political sayings and atmosphere they are in. It
tends to indicate the reflection of the way of the
world on the TransAsia passengers and on their
stories. The film tells the story of the TransAsia
train, its passengers and the three-day journey.

This documentary depicts the story of
acceptance and glorification of insanity that is
not even seen in the most civilized societies. It
observes point of view of the Tunceli community
on insanity, depicting the interesting story of
Hüseyin Tatar, nicknamed Seyit Hüseyin, who
became a schizophrenia patient after returning
from military service. After his death, songs are
written for him, his statue is arisen, his grave
became a mausoleum where candles are lit
every friday. Gods Fool searches the answer
of a question: What makes a fool so precious?

Three women living in nature, yielding to nothing,
living at peace with the nature by the strength
they derive from their own labour: A shepherdess
living next to her animals in wild and remote
mountain, a fishmonger woman who sails and
casts her net everyday even though she does
not know how to swim and a cultivator who looks
after the household, buying and selling fields
when necessary. They represent a form of
productive life that is not yet detached from
nature, in a period when consumerism based
patriarchic system pushed natural resources to
extinction. Through stories of three characters,
a folk lyric essay on womens strong and
productive identity.

Volga Volga: Living with Schizophrenia portrays
the daily life of Volga, a schizophrenic patient
who lives in the capital of Turkey. Director
Aysegul Taskent turns the camera to her own
family and to the life of her brother, Volga.
Volga, 35, is a talented young man whose life
has been heavily affected by schizophrenia.
Film documents the daily struggles and shows
the impact that Volgas illness has on the whole
family.
By documenting the struggle for a normal life
and by giving voice also to several members of
the Ankara Solidarity Center for Schizophrenic
Patients, the film is a reflection on what it means
to be touched, directly or indirectly, by an
invisible illness, which cannot be healed by time
and for this reason leaves deep, visible scars.

One of the favourite children songs begins with
the words Old man Ali has a farm, on that farm
he has some cows Nedim Buðral, who is
well known by the children of Bursa, has a farm
as well but this one is nothing like the one in
that song. In Drama Farm, which was
transformed from an old barn into an environment
where village children could listen to kinds of
music, watch movies, take lessons on different
subjects, works those who want to produce
pieces of art without being held back by
limitations of money and time. Buðral and friends,
who believe they dont need a large theatre and
a well-designed set to stage a play, have been
performing their play in many different villages
for four years with the support of
Mustafakemalpaþa people and on their own
efforts. Their backstage is the café in the village,
their stage is the trailer of a tractor, their spotlights
are the streetlights; they are actors who support
children with leukemia, earthquake victims and
homeless children with the help of theatre and
plays which they truly love.
This is the film that tells the stories of Mevlü,
who started a local radio station in his village
after crossing paths with Drama Farm, and of
Mustafa the carpenter, who discovered the actor
in him while designing the sets of the play, and
of the village people, who shared the duties and
helped the party with the set, and of children
who carried the costumes. This is a film that
aims to show how people from different
economical and social backgrounds act
collectively through theatre.

mültecilerin yaþantýlarýndan kesitlerin yer
aldýðý projeyi gerçekleþtirmek için, Suat
Þenocak, 10 ay mültecilerle birlikte yaþadý.
Þenocak bu nedenle Ýsveçe iltica etmek
zorunda kaldý. Þenocakin da ailesi yýllar
önce eski Yugoslavyadan Türkiyeye göç
etmiþti. Hem bu psikolojiyi yaþamak, hem
de mülteci sorununu gündeme getirmek için
böyle bir çalýþma yapan yönetmen, Gölge
Adamlar filminde, "insanlar neden mülteci
oluyorlar?" sorusuna yanýt arýyor.

Shadow Men; is a documentary investigating
one of the very important problems in the world:
Refugees. Suat Oktay Senocak has lived with
refugees in Sweden for 10 months to produce
Golge Adamlar. He even had to take refuge in
Sweden for making this documentary. As
Senocak is a member of a family migrated from
Yugoslavia to Turkey several years ago, has
himself experienced the conditions of a refugee
and with that he tried to put the refugee problem
on the agenda. Golge Adamlar is seeking an
answer to the question "Why do people become
refugees?" but getting more questions in the
end.

The director takes an honest, humorous and
searching look at how Thalidomide** has affected
the way he's perceived by the public and by
himself. He asks a range of thalidomine victims
to join him in posing naked for an exhibition of
giant photos. Will he find enough willing models?
Will he find the confidence to expose himself?
And will he, or anyone else, find any aesthetic
beauty in the finished pictures?
* ç.n. - Thalidomid, 1957-1961 yýllarý arasýnda satýlmýþ olan,

Sütlü Çikolata, 1905 yýlýnda Mýsýr Hýdivi
Abbas Hilmi Paþa'nýn, Dalaman'daki
arazisinde çalýþtýrmak üzere beraberinde
getirdiði Mýsýr ve Sudanlýlarýn Türkiye
maceralarýný konu alýyor. Paþa, borçlarýný
ödeyemeyip arazisini kaybedince çoðu siyah
veya esmer olan bu insanlarýn bir bölümü
anayurtlarýna geri dönüyor. Geri kalanlar
Dalaman'ý kendilerine yurt ediniyorlar. Çoðu
Türkçe bilmeyen birinci neslin çocuklarý,
yöre halkýyla kaynaþýyor. Zamanla
"Türkleþiyorlar"; öyle ki, torunlar artýk hiç
Arapça bilmiyor. Ancak derilerinin rengi,
onlarýn Afrikalý köklerinin fark edilmesine
neden oluyor.

Subject of the film
Milk Chocolate is a documentary about the
Egyptians and Sudanians, who came to
Dalaman, Turkey, to work on the land of Hýdiv
Abbas Hilmi Pasha (Governor of Egypt) in 1905.
When Pahsa is unable pay his debts, he loses
his land, hence leaving many of his workers
jobless. While some of these people return back
to their homeland, others stay and make
Dalaman their new home. The first generation
Africans does not speak Turkish, but their
children integrate fast within the Turkish society.
The grandchildren do not speak Arabic at all.
Still, they are clearly spotted in a predominantly
white country.

daðcýlýðý adýna ilkleri gerçekleþtirdi. Ülke adý
taþýyan ilk týrmanýþýmýz, 10 daðcýnýn 10'unun da
zirveye ulaþmasýyla tamamlandý; Everest'e ilk
Türkiye takým týrmanýþý ve ilk kadýn týrmanýþý
olarak da kayýtlara geçti. Bu, sadece bir baþarý
öyküsü deðil, ayný zamanda takýmca, arkadaþça
ve insanca bir ortaklýðýn öyküsü. Film, daðda
geçen iki ay boyunca yaþananlarý aktarýrken, bu
baþarýyý mümkün kýlan daðcýlýk anlayýþýný
anlamaya çalýþýyor. Takýmýn üyeleri sadece filmin
kahramanlarý olarak kamera önünde yer almýyor;
her birinin farklý kamera arkasý görevleriyle de

The Everest Turkey Expedition which took place
between 27 Mars - 9 June 2006 was a milestone
for Turkish Mountaineering. This first team
expedition named after Turkey is accomplished
after all of the 10 climbers make the summit; it
is also registered as the first Turkish team ascent
to Everest and also the first Turkish women's
ascent to Everest. This is not just a story of
success but also a story of friendly, humanly
partnership as a team. This film, depicting what
has happened during the two months passed
at the mountain, tries to understand the mentality
of climbing that enables this success. The
members of the team are not just the vedettes
in front of the camera; all of them have a lot of
contribution and different parts behind the
camera in the process of filmmaking. This film
is a product of the same partnership as the
climbing.

Süryanice'nin tarihsel geçmiþinin, Süryanice
el yazmacýlýðý geleneðinin bölgedeki son
temsilcisi olan Papaz Gabriel Aktaþ'ýn
dünyasý üzerinden ele alýndýðý belgeselde,
doðum ile ölüm arasýnda, yaþamýn ve
kültürün temel dinamikleri ile Süryanice'nin

Subject of the film
Today about 6,700 languages are spoken in the
world. If the predictions of the specialists become
true; approximately 5000 languages will be
wiped out in the next century from their historical
place. This danger is also valid for "Syriac" one
of the three oldest languages spoken in the
world. It is rooted from North of Mesopotamia
and South Eastern Anatolia. A Letter For
Tomorrow, emphasizing the historical
background of the "Syriac" language and the
calligraphy tradition of this culture by introducing
a priest, Gabriel Aktas, one of the calligraphers
in the South Eastern of Turkey.

yönetmenliðinin yaný sýra eðitimci kimliðine de

1973'te Ankara Üniversitesi Basýn Yayýn Yüksek
Okulu'nda baþlayýp, Ankara ve Ýstanbul'daki
çeþitli üniversitelerde sürdürdüðü öðretim
görevinde, aralarýnda günümüzün ünlü
yönetmenleri, gazetecileri ve akademisyenlerinin
de bulunduðu çok sayýda öðrencinin yetiþmesine
katkýda bulundu. Suha Arýn, bugün gerek eserleri,
gerekse belgesel sinema eðitimine getirdiði

Mexican paramilitary forces shot Brad Will, killing
him, his camera fell from his hands. But it didn't

Turkey, summer 2007. The general elections are
in two months time. Six different women are
working hard to reach the same goal: to be a
member of the parliament. One business woman
runs from house visits packed with women to
mass-circumcision ceremonies. Her rival warns
women that there would be Islamic law if they
don't vote for her opposition party. Meanwhile,
the Kurdish candidate tries to console mourning
mothers but faces strong criticism because she
can't speak Kurdish. And two former sex-workers
claim the street even though there is hardly any
penny in their pockets and the police are hard
on them.Istanbul based film colective Filmist's
"What A Beautiful Democracy!" is an observational
feature documentary reflecting both women's
struggle for power and also the social face of
today's polarized Turkey.

Subject of the film
The film is a journey on the wings of La Paloma,
the most frequently played song in the world
(La Paloma is Spanish for dove). 2000 versions
are known. In Zanzibar it is played at the end
of a wedding, in Romania it is performed at the
end of a funeral. In Mexico it was the favourite
song of the tragic Emperor Maximilian. Legend
has it that as a last wish he requested La Paloma
to be played, before he was executed. In
Auschwitz, Coco Schumann, the German master
of swing, was forced to perform the song at the
ramp to the gas chambers. All these and many
more moving stories are told in the film, which
was shot on three continents. What is the secret
of La Paloma? Why has it become a symbol for
longing - worldwide?

Subject of the film
"Welcome in Greece Mr. Marshall" chronicles
the dramatic economic and cultural changes
that came about in Greece through the Marshall
Plan in the 1950s. In Greece, first country to
benefit from American grants, the operating
principles were spelled out more clearly than
elsewhere and were probably applied more
intensively as a civil war between Communists
and Nationalists was raging in the country from
1947 to 1949.
Through film archives, radio programs and
various testimonies, the film recalls the inflow
of American values in the Greek culture by
pointing out the historical and political importance
of the Marshall Plan's vision of the world.

Subject of the film
In a remote region of Guinea, West Africa,
a desperately poor place with a long
connection to gold, a large industrial gold
mine has arrived. End of the Rainbow is an
elegiac portrait of the changes brought by
the mine, and of the universal human desire
for a better life. How do local people respond
to the opportunities and economic divisions
the mine creates? How do the local
jobseekers and expatriate staff, attracted
by gold and the possibilities it offers,
understand one another? Conflict over the
mine's presence is escalating. In case of
difficulties, the mine calls in the military. The
gold will be dug from the ground, but at
what cost? End of the Rainbow reveals a
world that is changing forever, and portrays
intimately the people who are grappling to
respond to those changes.

In FLYING: CONFESSIONS OF A FREE WOMAN,
master storyteller Jennifer Fox lays bare her own
turbulent life to penetrate what it means to be
a free woman today. As her drama of work and

protagonist travels to over seventeen countries
to understand how diverse women define their

Worldwide more than two million women suffer
from this childbirth injury caused by lack of
nutrition and early marriage.
In Ethiopia some 100,000 girls and women suffer
from obstetric fistula and there are 9,000 new
cases each year. An obstetric fistula is an
opening between the bladder and/or rectum
and the vagina, which can occur during
childbirth. Age-old traditions force girls to marry
at a very young age. They become pregnant so
young that they cannot properly bear their baby
because their pelvis isn't yet fully grown. The
baby dies and the young mother is left with a
fistula. These girls and women are often banished
from their families and communities.
This documentary tells the story of a young
Ethiopian woman, Yezina, victim of having a
fistula. Her husband does not abandon her but
he sells his ox to cure her.

The temple called church St. Nicolas/ turbe
H'idir Baba is located at the west part of
Macedonia. Today in this temple prayed several
ethnic and religious communities, Orthodox
Christians, Muslims ( Bektashi orders, Khalweti
orders and Sunni) and they all acknowledge the
fact that it belongs to all of them and they can
use it equally.

Three and a half years in the life of the Ouda
family in Beit Hanoun in North Gaza. Every year
the family was locked inside their home for more
than a month with tanks and bulldozers right
outside the windows. The father, Mahmoud, an
actor in one of Gaza;s few professional theater
companies, had to sneak out to his rehearsals
and performances. Inside the house Mahmoud
and his wife tried to absorb the fear and comfort
their children who saw buildings being
demolished in front of their eyes.
One October day they were told to lock the
doors of their house and say goodbye.

Sonuç olarak beklenmeyen, sýradýþý, kimi
zaman da trajik yaþam öykülerini ortaya
çýkararak, sýradan insanlarýn güçlü, gerçek
karakterler olduklarý kanýtlanýyor ve gündüz
barýna mütevazý bir giriþ, insan doðasý ve

Subject of the film
A film of intertwined stories, this documentary
discreetly discovers the intimate histories of the
simple customers of a "bar de zi" (day bar) in
the city of Sibiu, the last State-owned bar that
survived the communist regime. People, the
ones who casually pass by everyday, are
followed from the bar into their private space;
and life. As a result, by revealing unexpected,
strange, sometimes tragic life stories, ordinary
people prove to be strong, true characters and
the modest entrance in a day bar becomes in
fact a doorway to a deep reflection on human
nature and personal destiny.

Subject of the film
Mohamed, a Pakistani tailor, and Singh, his
Indian employee, work together in an 8m2 store
in the heart of Barcelona's Raval district, one of
the city's poorest neighborhoods. Mohamed is
very ill-tempered and the only thing he cares
for is his business and his religious belief. Singh
is a 50 years old Indian immigrant recently
arrived in Barcelona, who works illegally for a
miserable amount of money.
The everyday work is tough and long and the
relation between Mohamed and Sing deteriorates
till unbearable limits. Ironically, in such a reduced
space, loneliness and isolation seem to be their
only destiny, in a strange country.

What happens when a person can't feel pain?
A LIFE WITHOUT PAIN is an exploration into
the day-to-day lives of three children who literally
feel no pain. Three-year-old Gabby from
Minnesota, 7-year-old Miriam from Norway and
10-year-old Jamilah from Germany have a
genetic defect so rare that it is shared by just
one hundred people in the world. Their parents
must watch their every move, but even their
vigilance hasn't shielded the girls from many
serious, life-altering injuries. As we follow these
families coping with this enormous challenge,
we learn that pain is really a gift that no one
wants, but none of us can do without.

MEETING RESISTANCE raises the veil of
anonymity surrounding the Iraqi insurgency by
meeting face to face with individuals who are
passionately engaged in the struggle, and
documenting for the very first time, the
sentiments experienced and actions taken by
a nation's citizens when their homeland is
occupied. Voices that have previously not been
heard, male and female, speak candidly about
their motivations, hopes and goals, revealing a
kaleidoscope of human perspectives. Featuring
reflective, yet fervent conversations with active
insurgents, MEETING RESISTANCE is the
missing puzzle piece in understanding the Iraq
war. Through its unprecedented access to these
clandestine groups, film focuses the spotlight

Six Israeli women give a personal account about
their life in the Israeli Army, in the Occupied
Terrorities. A female point of view on the drama
of an unending war, on the moral challanges
the soldiers faced at the encounter with the
Palestinian population. The women look back
critically at the way they handled the power that
was placed in their hands at the young age of
eighteen. Questions that were not dealt with
during the service are raised today with great

Subject of the film
This is a story about love and separation. It
happened in Albania, a small poor country in
the Balkans in the sixties of the past century.
Our film tells the story of the families that were
forcefully separated by the Communist regime
of Enver Hodja - the longest lasting European
dictator of the 20th century. When in 1961
Albania broke off relations with Soviet Union,
Albanian men married to non-Albanian women
were forced to split up with their wives and drive
them from their houses. The official reason: fear
of espionage. Those who did not obey spent
years in prisons. Our film tells the stories of three
couples - only three of the many couples of
Albanian men married to foreign women.

Subject of the film
The unusual symbiosis of two old brothers in a
world where time has stood still.
Since childhood Fritz and Heiner Zuber live
together in their farming house in the North of
Bavaria. Neither one of them ever had a family
or went away for leading an individual life. They
are as different as day and night.
Fritz, a retired police officer, lovingly takes care
of the household. Heiner, farmer and heir to the
farm, prefers to be passive and reflect on the
past. In spite of their oppositional view of life,
they strongly depend on each other. Ever since
they live in constant silence.
But it used to be different once...

It seems impossible - but after losing a leg to
cancer, accomplished dancer Homer Avila
returns to the stage without crutches, performing
with Andrea Flores a duet choreographed by
Alonzo King. We witness determination, skill
and courage as Homer collaborates in his no
w "imperfect" body - and his "one-leggedness"
turns into transcendent beauty.

Ceza, 1960 sonlarýndaki Finlandiya'da
toplumsal ahlaki normlarý zorlamýþ olan bir
adamýn hikayesini anlatmaktadýr.
Mattijuhani Koponen, büyük bir piyanonun
üzerinde cinsel birleþmede bulunarak, tutucu
Finlandiya'yý rayýndan çýkartmýþ, Fin yeraltý
ve gösteri sanatý öncülerinden biriydi. Sanat
ve pornografi arasýndaki ince çizgi bir kaç
adalet sarayýnda tartýþýldý. Sanatçý bir senelik
hapis cezasýna çarptýrýldý. Gençliðinde yaptýðý
"kamu düzenini bozan bir hareket" onu ve
tüm hayatýný lekeledi. Arkadaþlarý ortadan
kayboldu ve Koponen neredeyse tamamen
unutuldu.
Film, yakýn tarihimizde, bir bireyin idealizminin
yetkili kiþileri kýzdýrdýðý andaki karmaþýk deðer
yargýlarýna bir adamýn romantik yolculuðu.
Ayný zamanda, bize günümüzde
karþýlaþtýðýmýz benzer problemleri hatýrlatýyor.

Subject of the film
Punishment tells a story about a man who
pushed the norms of chastity in the Finland of
the late 1960's.
Mattijuhani Koponen is a pioneer of Finnish
underground and performance art, who had
sexual intercourse on a top of a grand piano
and threw the conservative Finland off its rails.
The fine line between art and pornography was
discussed in several courts of justice. The artist
was sentenced to one year in prison. One "public
act" in his youth has stigmatised the man and
his whole life. His friends disappeared, and
Koponen was almost completely forgotten.
The film is one man's romantic journey amidst
the complex set of values of our recent history,
when the idealism of an individual made the
powers-that-be nervous. At the same time, it
reminds us of similar problems we face today.
