STUDENTS IN THE PRESS
 Ceymi Doenyas, PSYC PhD 1
The media coverage of Ceymi’s published book was released on the Autism Awareness Month of April this
year. This book is the first and only book in the world that explains to caregivers how to create activity
schedules on iPads for children with autism and teach their independent use. Activity schedules are one of the
most commonly used techniques in autism education. They help individuals with autism spectrum disorders
(ASD) organize and lead their lives independently. Until very recently, these activity schedules were being
prepared in multiple, bulky folders, which was time-consuming to create and inconvenient to carry around.
These handicaps are resolved with the use of iPads as the medium for activity schedules, and Ceymi’s book
explains to caregivers how to prepare these schedules on iPads and teach children with ASD how to use these
schedules independently. The book is being sold on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The media coverage for Pınar Yelmi's research on "The Soundscape of Istanbul" and Soundwalk Workshops
was released on several newspapers and magazines such as Habertürk, Yeni Şafak, İleri Haber, Sabah, Timeout,
Trendsetter and Artful Living.
The Soundscape of Istanbul Project aims to capture the important values of sonic culture and preserve them in
the context of intangible cultural heritage. The Soundscape of Istanbul Collection includes both audio files and
visual material related to that intangible cultural heritage of the city which is primarily of a sonic character.
This collection, which will continue to expand over the coming years, is the outcome of a research project and
fieldwork sponsored by a Seed Research Grant from Koç University. The field recordings (and related visual
materials) provide a representative sample of neighborhoods, from residential over historical to commercial,
captured at various times of day/year in order to present temporal and seasonal changes as well. The project can
be reached at https://soundscapeofistanbul.ku.edu.tr/.
Pınar Yelmi organized Soundwalk Workshops on every Saturday in April 2015 to help people realize urban
sonic environment and be aware of the importance of the cultural sounds. Soundwalk Workshops was organised
in four different routes which are historically important: Galata, Karaköy, Beyoğlu and Eminönü. In the
workshops, the concept of Soundscape was introduced and the relationship between city and sound was
discussed. It was hoped that the participants perceived the city from a sonic perspective and interpret the urban
fabric with an unconventional manner.
