Abstract
ThisstudyfocusesontherelationshipwiththeDemokratParti(DemocraticParty)andKadın
Gazetesi,ajournalpublishedfrom1947to1979.Fromthepointofthefeministstrugglein
Turkey, periodicals had a significant place in women’s communication and publishing. By
means of these periodicals women were able to share their ideas about family, individual
demands,domesticlife,andengageinpoliticaldebates.Thisstudytreatstheseperiodicals
andmagazinesasintellectualresourcesonthehistoryofwomanorganizations.
AfterwomenweregrantedpoliticalrightsinTurkey,women’sorganizationsandassociations
were regarded as unnecessary, because the state declared that “gender equality was
achieved”.SocialchangesduringthegovernmentofDemocraticPartyalsoposedthreatto
feministmovement,alienatingwomenfrompoliticaldemandsforwomenmovementsand
womenwereforcedtomoveinspheredeterminedby‘statefeminism’.
