Fiat Avio and Spina 3
Strategic Recommendations (urban regeneration)
Most of the strategic recommendations are about involving citizens and residents in the
brownfields requalification.
The B-Team partners underline the need to have good instruments in communicating
the transformation and a transparent way in publishing data and decisions.
They suggest to strengthen the link between cultural event and local identity to increase
the sense of belonging and the participation.
Furthermore, it is recommended to increase the research and testing on new
reclamation methods, and to improve- during the planning process- the relationship
between the level of contamination and the new land use, in order to contain costs.

Site Specific Recommendations (urban regeneration)
The specific recommendations that can be considered more helpful concern:
• Public transport access to Lingotto (island situation)
• Well functioning and safe pedestrian and bicycle routes on the Fiat Avio area, connecting to
the surrounding areas and the river
• Versatile functions on the new Lingotto railway station, including for example exhibition /
performance areas, rental space, bicycle parking - establish Lingotto station as a local
centre, beyond providing access to regional trains.
• Better connection to the Olympic Village - new (cultural or public) use of derelict structures
• More links between decontamination process and educational initiatives, also using existing
structure as “Museo A come Ambiente”
• Develop specific branding for the sites such as “Living on the Backbone” to highlight the
attractiveness to live there

Comments on Recommendations (urban regeneration)
Most of the recommendations are pertinent and correct, some of them are already considered
in the projects and some are difficult to receive but some others will be considered in the
course of the development.
The main elements incorporated by the city government in a formal document are:
• The improvement of the accessibility of the Lingotto railway station
• More attention in designing the new urban spaces (greenfield, public urban space…) and
urban connections (pathways, bikeways, public transport solutions,…)
• Temporary use of derelict architectures and spaces in brownfields (with some safety
problems)
• Marketing, communication and participation actions (branding…).

• The workshop leader should give a 5 min introduction of
