BIOSTOP® EZ-Block™

1. Product Description
BIOSTOP® EZ-Block™ is a
flexible, highly intumescent
firestop material specifically
designed for use in the
telecommunication industry. It
forms a high insulating char under
fire conditions to prevent the
passage of flame, smoke, and
hot gases through concrete floors
and walls. BIOSTOP® EZBlock™ is ideal for a 12 inch by
24 inch openings in both concrete
floors and walls with a kick box
installed on the top of the floor
and metal plates on both sides of
a wall. BIOSTOP® EZ-Block™
functions as an effective
intermediate fire-break within
vertical and horizontal cable tray
runs and is excellent for both new
and retrofit construction. When
exposed to a fire, the material
forms a refractory char that
retards heat transmission and
tightly seals penetrations against
flame spread, smoke and toxic
fumes. Patent Pending.

Classified to UL 1479. Reference
UL System Number WL4055,
WJ4052. For specific test criteria,
refer to the UL's Fire Resistance
Directory, or call RectorSeal.
4. Application and
Installation
Install BIOSTOP® EZ-Block™
along with BIOSTOP® Putty in
the telecommunication openings
in concrete floors, walls and
gypsum walls. Two 8 inch and
two 10 inch strips of the product

will meet the firestop requirement
of a 12" by 24" opening. No longer
do you need to cut a composite
sheet to fit the contour of the cable
bundle. No longer do you need to
stuff pillows in the cavity.
Instructions for Floor systems:
1. Install a "dome" of putty 1 inch
thick by 2 inches high around the
cables where they exit the steel
cover plates.
2. For 12" by 24" openings, position
two 8 inch lengths of BIOSTOP®
EZ-Block™ within the concrete
cavity, one on each side of the
cable bundle. Position two 10 inch
lengths of BIOSTOP® EZ-Block™
within the concrete cavity at the
long side of the cable bundle.
3. For smaller openings, the length
of block may be trimmed to 80% of
the length and width of the opening
size.
4. Before installation of the upper
steel cover plate, place a 1/2 inch
wide layer of Putty on top surface
of kick-box at steel cover plate
overlap.

Instructions for Wall System:
1. Inside wall cavity, place two 10
inch lengths of BIOSTOP® EZBlock™ parallel to wall, on cables,
in between cable tray rails.
2. Place two 8 inch lengths of
BISOTOP® EZ-Block™ under
cable tray, resting on bottom of
opening.
3. Arrange cables as flat as possible within tray. On both sides of
wall, attach a min. 24 ga. steel
cover plate which has been cut
around cables and cable tray.
4. If splices occur in cover plate,
use additional 3” wide, 24 ga.
sheet metal to overlap the splices.
5. Install a bead of BIOSTOP® Fire
Rated Putty on both sides of wall,
1/2” thick by 1 inch wide, around
cables and cable tray where they
exit the steel cover plate.

PRECAUTIONS: Do not take internally. May
be harmful if swallowed. May cause eye and
skin irritation if prolonged or repeated contact
occurs. Wash after handling. FIRST AID: For
any overexposure, get immediate medical
attention after first aid is given. Eyes- Flush 15
minutes with clean water. Skin-Wash with
soap and water. Ingestion-Only if conscious,
give large amounts of water and INDUCE
VOMITING. FIRE AND SPILLS: Use water
fog, CO2, foam, or dry chemicals. Wipe up
spills to prevent footing hazard. Clean up with
scrapers and water. STORAGE AND
HANDLING: Store away from heat sources.

stored below 120˚F (49˚ C). Keep
products stored under protective
cover, in their original containers. A
stock rotation program is
recommended. Unlimited shelf life.
