Couple weekends ago in July, I spent a weekend at my friends’ cottage in Kincardine,
Ontario — it was a beautiful beach town with lots of friendly people. As I started meeting
people, I got introduced to a gentleman whose name was “Turk.” My first question was whether
he was Turkish and the answer was No — he was called “Turk” for many years now and that’s
how the people on the beach knew him. That same night, we were all invited to Turk’s sister’s
25th wedding anniversary party
and he got up to give a speech: his
opening remarks were about me.

and that he was honored to have a Turkish person in town. In the next two days I stayed there,
nobody probably remembered my name, but everybody greeted me as “The Turk” and came to
talk to me about Turkey, Turkish food and Turkish culture.
Now, you are probably wondering why I started my message with this story… It’s because
I was once more so proud of being Turkish, and I was delighted to introduce my culture to a big
crowd of Americans and Canadians. All I could think of the whole weekend was how else I could
show these people what a great nation we are and how wonderful Turks are. And this is what
TACAM is all about — we need to embrace our heritage for its beauty, richness and history
and spread the word around to promote this wonderful culture. That’s why TACAM needs
involvement from every single one of you to unite and become the voice of Turkey in the State of
Michigan — with that, this is my invitation to all of you to support TACAM, become members
and actively participate in our activities so we can become stronger as every day goes by. This
can only be possible by increasing our membership, encouraging donations for specific causes
and by appealing to larger crowds at planned events. That’s where we need your continuous
involvement as individuals of the Turkish-American community in Michigan. This is not about
the success of a group of selected officers or not about eating and dancing, but this is about
being Turkish, being the proud sons and daughters of Atatürk and being the ambassadors of
our nation. There is not a single day that goes by without me thinking how great it is to be a
Turkish-American — will you join TACAM so our voice can be heard everywhere?
I was given the honor to lead this organization in April 2007 and have the pleasure of
working with a wonderful, enthusiastic group of friends — since then, it has been an extremely
busy time for all of us. We celebrated together May 19th for The Commemoration of Atatürk,
Youth and Sports Day, June 17th for Father’s Day and then held a panel with three very
distinguished guest speakers: Honorable U. Kenan İpek, Consul General of Turkish Republics
in Chicago; Mr. Günay Evinch, President Elect of ATAA; and Mr. Lincoln McCurdy, Treasurer
of Turkish Coalition USA Political Action Committee. We also have many events planned
throughout the year to celebrate our national holidays, to promote our culture and to educate
our community on issues concerning the Turkish community. Once again, this organization
belongs to all of us and with your continued support, we pledge to make this year a great success
for our community.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our Board Officers — this year’s team is putting
in so much effort and sacrifice to make it a successful year for the Turkish-American community
here in Michigan and I send my Kudos to my friends on the Board for working so hard. I also
want to thank every single one of you, TACAM members, for being a part of this organization
and supporting our goals for becoming a strong and unified group.
I have faith that TACAM will grow its boundaries with dedicated officers and members
— looking forward to the next exciting eight months with all of you!

Ergeç and İpek in Michigan

The Assembly of Turkish American Association’s Public
Outreach Committee and International Visitors Council of Metropolitan Detroit and Voice of Detroit Radio
proudly presented Honorable Dr. Sadettin Ergeç on July
2nd. At Farmington Hills Manor, Dr. Ergeç discussed Iraqi unity, solidarity, human rights, equitable sharing of
resources and Iraqi territorial integrity. He was also joined by Dr. Hegran Ahmad, ITF External Relations Director; Ahmet Muratli, ITF Ankara Representative; Asif Ismail, ITF London Representative; Jamal Mehmed Ali Allahwerede, Co-Chairman of the Iraqi Turkmen Front; and, Hisam Mustafa Taha, Member of the Iraqi Turkmen
Council. Ergeç was recently in Washington, D.C., where he gave talks on the state of Kirkuk territory disputes
and the referendums dealing with this territory. He also emphasized the woes of the Turkmen and Arab groups
in Kirkuk vis-à-vis the Kurds.
Under the auspices of Nurten Ural, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Michigan,
TACAM created a reception to honor U. Kenan İpek, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Chicago, on
June 23rd, 2007, at Nurten’s residence. The event consisted of talks and a Q&A session. Later on, G. Lincoln
McCurdy of the Turkish Coalition Political Action Committee and Günay Evinch the ATAA Capital Region Vice
President joined in on the panel discussion.
Mantı Day

On August 4th, TACAM held a Manti Day at Mi-Hut Cafe in
Ypsilanti. There were 25 people in attendance. We all enjoyed
the delicious food and company of friends while watching
Turkish TV. Kudos to the owners of Mi-Hut Cafe, Behice &
Hakan Günel, for the awesome mantı, it was absolutely the best!
Thanks to all who attended and hope to see everyone again at
our future events.
Chicago Turkish Festival

From May 30th to June 2nd the fifth annual Chicago Turkish Festival
took place at the Daley plaza. This year the festivities included
Turkish cuisine, music, folk dancing, whirling dervishes, traditional
fashion show and an Ottoman-era militray band. Fine arts, crafts
and other goods produced by Turks were also sold at the event.
Exhibitions included one on Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, another
on comparing the cities of Chicago and İstanbul, and a few film
screenings. The event was a success and very popular as usual. We
look forward to next year’s festival.

Didem Şeyhoğlu was born in İstanbul. She completed her high school education in Üsküdar
American Academy and then graduated from İstanbul Technical University in 1997, with a
degree in Mechanical Engineering. She recently received her MBA degree from the Ross School of
Business at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Didem came to the US in January 1999 as part of a foreign assignment from Ford Otosan in
İstanbul. Her assignment duration was one year, however she accepted a job offer at Ford Motor
Company at the end of the assigned time and has been living in Michigan since then. She’s still
employed at Ford Motor Company as a Lead Product Design Engineer, responsible for design and
release of safety / restraints systems in truck programs.
Didem has participated in the executive board of non-profit organizations in the past,
recently in TACAM. She has been an active member of TACAM since 2004 – she served as the
Treasurer for 2006-2007 term and recently got elected as the President for 2007-2008 term.
As being very proud of her Turkish heritage, she takes it very seriously to volunteer in TACAM
activities to promote Turkish culture and traditions. She believes that it’s extremely important
to ensure that the Turkish community remains intact through its own customs. She sees it as a
responsibility for Turkish-American individuals to introduce our culture to others and advance
the image of our country among other nations. As committed to the Turkish community here,
Didem will work hard during her presidency to ensure TACAM meets its cultural and financial
goals in the best possible way.

Serkan Özdemir was born in Witten, Germany in 1977. He graduated from Istanbul Technical
University (ITU) in 2000, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Serkan was involved in several student organizations during his university education. He was a member of the Engineering
Orientation Club in which he organized numerous activities such as field trips, career days, concerts and student festivals. He played a major role in establishing the ASME (American Society
of Mechanical Engineers) student chapter and TEMA (The Turkish Foundation for Combating
Soil Erosion for Reforestation and the Protection of Natural Habitats) ITU-Section.
Following his graduation, he started to work as a Project Engineer at TRW Automotive in
Germany, where he specialized in NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness). After 4 years service,
in 2005, he was transferred to TRW Headquarters in Livonia, Michigan. His current position is
Lead Product Engineer, responsible for NVH research and development of vehicle brake systems.
He is fluent in Turkish, German and English. Serkan has been an active member of TACAM
(Turkish American Cultural Association of Michigan) since 2006. He was elected to the Board of
Directors for 2006-2007 term and recently got elected as the Vice President for 2007-2008 term.

Ferid Ahmed is recently retired from the convenience store business after nearly twenty five
years. He is currently employed part-time as a substitute teacher in the Anchor Bay (New Baltimore) school district. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan he graduated from Cass Technical
H.S. in 1964 and later from Eastern Michigan University.
He is a veteran of U.S. Army having served two years from 1967 to 1969. He is married to
Leyla Ural and has two sons Murat and Erol.

While Elif Cila was born in New Jersey and has lived in America all her life, travelling nearly every summer to Türkiye, and she is deeply tied to her roots. Elif loves every aspect of her culture,
from the language, to our historically rich land, and even simple things such as our collective obsession with sunflower seeds. She believes that despite all of the factors that make every individual in our community different from the other, it is this love for Türkiye and the homesickness
associated with being so far away that unites us. It is TACAM’s purpose and goal to recapture, if
only during a picnic, movie-night, or soccer game, a little piece of our beloved country, and Elif is
proud to help do this. As the youngest member of this year’s TACAM board, she considers herself
a representative for the younger Turkish Americans in our community, as well as a source of new
ideas. She hopes to help make TACAM more inviting to both the young and young-at-heart, and
to aid the organization in becoming a stronger unifying force for Turkish Americans.
Aside from TACAM, Elif is a sophomore at the University of Michigan - Dearborn, majoring in Biology and Premed, but she has a strong interests in Political Science and Middle Eastern
affairs, which she hopes to pursue as a minor. She works as a lifeguard at the North Oakland
YMCA, and volunteer in the ER of St. Joseph Mercy hospital in Pontiac. Elif is interested in
learning about different cultures and lifestyles, dancing, reading, traveling, fashion, and sports.
She will try anything once, and she essentially lives by Horace’s infamous words, Carpe Diem:
living in the moment and having no regrets.

Gülay Schorr, a Turkish citizen married to an American citizen, has lived in the United
States since 1995 where she is working to be a freelance artist. Gulay is currently living
in Michigan. Previously Gulay lived in Washington, DC where she earned her bachelor degree in Studio Art from The University of Maryland, and she has worked at the
American-Turkish Council.
Gülay is originally from İstanbul and has a bachelors degree in Economics from
İstanbul University. She was born in 1966, in Trabzon, Turkey. She has a five and a half
year old daughter.

Leylâ Ahmed has been living in Michigan for 25 years. For over 20 years, she worked
for TACAM in various positions as a volunteer, board of director, treasurer, secretary
and the president of TACAM for the 2005-2006 term.
She has a civil engineering degree from Turkey and a land surveying degree from
Michigan Technological University. She has been a licensed surveyor since 200: currently she works at a civil engineering firm as a project manager and senior surveyor.
She is married to Ferid Ahmed and has two sons, Murat and Erol Ahmed.
She says working with TACAM as a volunteer gives her the opportunity to spend
time with her Turkish friends and to help preserve the ties we have to our culture and
country.

Cihangir Tasdemir was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, and he has lived in the Metro
Detroit area ever since. His parents, Server & Nurhan, have always shown Cihangir
and his twin sister, Deniz, the importance of their Turkish culture. Cihangir has been
an active board member of TACAM since 2000: Treasurer 2000-1, Secretary 2001-2,
Director from 2002-5, Secretary 2005-6, Trustee 2006-7 & Director 2007- Present. In
addition, Cihangir has been the webmaster for TACAM.org since 2002.
Cihangir has numerous degrees from several colleges: Michigan State University,
BA in Economics 1996, BS in Neuroscience Psychology 1998; Wayne State University
with a BS in Mechanical Engineering 2001; University of Michigan-Dearborn with a
MS in Engineering Management and currently studying towards another MS in Mechanical Engineering. Since 1999, Cihangir has worked for the US Army TARDEC as a
mechanical engineer in the area of engine research where he has co-authored 6 technical papers.
Cihangir has been married to Dr. Kimberlyn Kucharczyk since 2003 where they
live in Livonia with their 3 dogs and 1 cat. In addition, Cihangir and Kimberlyn are
happy to announce they are growing their family by adopting a baby from China.

TACAM Father’s Day Picnic was held
on June 17th at Kensington Park.
The event was a great success and
thanks to everyone for their attendance. There were about 100 people
at the event and everybody enjoyed
their time. Şiş köfte and künefe were
definitely highlights of the day! There
were games set up for families and the winners
got a t-shirt with “Best Baba” written on the back.
Backgammon tournament, volleyball and soccer games were also enjoyed by the participants.
Hope to see everyone again soon at our upcoming
TACAM events.

We would like to say “Thank You” to all for supporting
our event on Saturday, May 19th — it was so great to see
everyone. We enjoyed celebrating this national holiday
with friends and hope everybody had a great time as
well. Despite the weather conditions earlier in the day,
there were about 50 people in attendance, and the food,
music, decorations, bonfire and games were
all awesome.

tanıtamamaktır. Herhangi bir eser hakkında detaylıca
bir bilgi verilmediği için, bugün görüp ve merak edilen
bir eser hakkında o semtin en yaşlısına sorulduğunda,
alınan cevap şudur “Kostantinden kalma veya
Bizanstan kalma.”
Daima Kostantin, acaba hangisi? Tam 11 tane
Konstantin gelmiş, sonra acaba hakikaten Konstantin’in
mi? Bazıları için Konstantin demek Bizans
demek, Bizans demek Konstantin demektir. Gerci
Konstantinden hiç bir şey kalmamıstır. Tahta çiktiğinda
şehir bir enkaz halinde idi, surları tamir edecek parası
dahi yoktu. Kuruluşundan cokusune kadar 88 imparator
gelmiş, acaba onlardan birine ait olamaz mı? Her neyse
donelim konumuza.
Yil m.s. 395, Büyük Theodosius I. (m.s. 379 – 395)
olmuş, ölmeden uçsuz bucaksiz Roma topraklarını iki
oğlu arasında bolmuş, küçük oğlu Honorius (m.s. 393
- 423) Romayı alarak Bati imparatoru olmus, buyuk
oglu Arcadius (m.s. 383 - 408) ise Constantinopolis’i
(İstanbul) alarak Dogu imparatoru olmuştu. Şehir halkı
hıristiyanlığı kabul etmişse de, halkın yüzde kırkı hala
putperest inanc ve ananelerini terk etmemişti.
Arcadius, ayni yıl içinde Frenk asilli Romali General
Flavius Bauto’nun kızı Aelia Eudoxia (m.s. ? – 404) ile
evlendi. Kocasının genç ve iradesiz biri olduğu için
kısa bir zaman içinde imparatorluğun tek hakimi olan
Eudoxia, bu durumdan faydalanarak gun gectikce artan
cilgin ve rezil saray partilerinde bas rol oynayinca,
kilisenin gozunden dusmustu. Patrik Yoanisin bu
konuda aleyhte davranislarindan sahsen alinan
Eudoxia, Yoanisi yaya olarak surgune gonderme emrini
verdi. Zincirlenen Yoanis, yola ciktigi anda meydana
gelen ani bir deprem Imparatorluk sarayinda buyuk
bir hasar acinca, Tanri tarafindan cezalandirilmaktan
korkan Eudoxia, Patrigi affederek geri çağırdı.
Bu olaydan iki ay kadar sonra, her imparator ve
imparatoriceye yapidigi gibi, Eudoxia’nin da som
gumusten yapilan boydan bir heykeli, şehrin Valisi
tarafindan M.S. 403
yilinin sonbaharinda, Augusteum meydanindaki
(Ayasofya onundeki meydani) senato binasinin onunde
(Ta Pittakia semti), porfir bir sutunun ustunde dikilmis
ve Bizans tarihinde cok onemli olan bir vakaya sahit
olmustur.
Heykelin dikilisini paganism gelenegine gore
mustehcen eglencelerle kutlayip, kaidesine cicekler
koyarak adaklar yapan Istanbulun putperest halkina,
yan tarafindaki Ayasofya kilisesinde (yanmadan evvel
bugunku binanin yerindeki eski Ayasofya) cileden
cikarak karsi koyan o devrin Patrigi Yoanis Hrisostomos
(altin agizli) (m.s. 347 - 407), halka: “Allah’a dua
edeceginize su heykel parçasına tapiniyorsunuz” diye
haykirmis ve bir gün Ayasofya’daki ayin esnasinda
kadınlara mahsus üst katta, Imparatorice Eudoxia’yi
cok agir bir sekilde azarlayip, heykeli yiktirmaga
kalkistigi icin Eudoxia’nin gazabina ugrayan Patrik,
yaptigi hakareti caniyla odedi. m.s. 404 senesinin
Mart ayinda yuruyerek durmadan dinlenmeden
Ermenistan’in dogu sinirindaki, Cucusus’a surgun giden
Patrik Yoanis, henuz yola ciktiginda Ayasofyada nasil
ciktigi bilinmeyen bir yangin kiliseyi, senato binasini ve
bazi binalari yakti. Imparatorice Eudoxia’ya gelince, o
da ayni yil icinde, hamilelik esnasinda gecirdigi kanama
durdurulamiyarak iltihap yapmis ve m.s. 6 Ekim 404 de

M.s. 407 senesinin yazinda hastalanan ve ayni

surgun emri alan Yoanis, yolda dinlenmek isteyince
rededilip agir gunes altinda yurumege zorlanmis
ve yolda yorgunluga dayanamayip surgun yerine
varmadan olmuştur. Son sozu “Doxa to theo panton
eneken (Tanrı her yerde yüce olsun)” idi.
Yoanis’in cenazesi St. Apostoli kilisesinde
gomulmek icin deniz yolu ile Istanbula, sonraki
devirlerde adi Sophion olan, Julianus limanina
(Bugunku Kadirga Limani) getirilip bir zaman icin St.
Thomas Amantiu kilisesine (bugun mevcut degildir)
konmus ve Yoanis azizler arasina alinmistir. Sonuc
olarak; Patrik Yoanis ile Imparatorice Eudoxia ayni
kilisede gomulmuslerdir.
M.s. 13 Ocak 532 de meydana gelen Nika
ihtilalinde Istanbulun yarisi yanmis, isyan bastirilarak
Istanbul yeniden onarilmistir. Isyani bastiran
Imparatorice Theodora (m.s. 500 – 548) Bizansin
tek hakimi olmus, bu arada bahsi gecen bu kaidenin
sutununun uzerindeki Eudoxia’nin heykeli m.s. 534
de indirilip, yerine Imparatorice Theodora’nin som
gumusten boydan bir heykeli konmustur.
Yeri tam olarak bilinmeyen bu sutunun kaidesi
1848 de Darulfunun insasi esnasinda (sonradan
Adliye binasi olmus ve 1933 yili ¾ Aralikta yanmistir)
temelleri kazilirken altindan cikarak uzerindeki
topraklar temizlenip okundugunda, bunun Eudoxia
sutununun kaidesi oldugu anlasilmis, fakat maalesef
bulundugu yer not alinmadigi icin kaidenin esas yeri

zamanlar Istanbul aristokrasisinin yasadigi saraylar

Corinth baslikli 30 metrelik bir kolon konup, uzerinde
Imparatorice Evdoxia’yi temsil eden, imitasyon boydan
bir kadin heykeli monte edilerek, su anda park olan eski
bulundugu yere konuldugu takdirde, cevreye Arkeolojik
bir baska hos goruntu ve deger kazandirabilir. Her iki
yuzundeki kitabeler, erozyondan silinmek uzere olup, ilerde
okunamayacagindan, arkeoloji meraklilari icin bu kitabeleri
eklemeyi gerekli buldum. On cephesindeki Latince yazit:

Antakya
27 Şubat 2006’da çok sevgili babamı kaybettim.
Ayrılmadan önce memleketi Antakya’ya gömülmek istediğini vasiyet etmişti.
Bu sebeple cenaze ve
sonrasinda birkac gun orada
kaldim ve oranin adetleriyle
babami ugurladim.
Antakya’ya ilk defa
gitmiyordum ama en son
gittigimde “kozmopolit”
kelimesini cizgi film
kahramani sanabilecek bir
yastaydim. Haliyle biraz buyudum; bu gidisimde
sehri cok farkli tanidim. Aslinda sehir hep ordaydi ve
oyleydi ya, ben gec anladim...
Hani su Danimarka’li karikaturler vardi ya,
haftalarca tartisildi. Hos mu gorelim, bos mu verelim,
kinasak yeter mi, yoksa yakmali mi derken tum dunya
bununla ugrasti. “Medeniyetler catismasi basliyor!
Kacin!” nidalari arasinda sagduyu Huntington’u
yenecek iddialari ucustu havada...Bugun bile hala
sevemiyor insanlar birbirlerini. Sozlerde, kulaklarda
mansetlerde hep ayni nakarat: Siz ve Biz. . .
Herneyse, bakin ben neler yasadim Antakya’da:
Cenaze namazini, camide, musevi olan enistemle
omuz omuza kildim. . . Taziye evinde bir alevi bir
sunni muezzin yan yana okudular dualari. Bir kez
degil, gunlerce. . . Imam’in yanina alevi dedeler oturup
katildilar dualara, ayni kursude, ayni hizada.
Hiristiyanlar, museviler geldiler dualari dinlemeye,
taziyelerini sunmaya. Aralarinda Ortodoks Kilisesi
Vakfi Baskani Jozef, fotur sapkasini cikarip selamladi
herkesi ve on siralardan dinledi dualari. . .
Babamin defninde ve mezar ziyaretlerinde
tutsuler yakildi kaselerde. “Ortodokslardan mi bu
gelenek?” dedim, “Kim kimden almis bilmeyiz ama
burada adettir, tutsu yakariz” dediler. . .
Amcama sordum: “Siz gidiyor musunuz bir
hiristiyan vefat ettiginde taziyeye?” “Tabi ki,” dedi,
“onlar nasil geliyorsa biz de gidiyoruz ama onlarin
adetlerine gore eve gidiyoruz.” Sonra ekledi, “Zaten
Asri Mezarlik’ta da herkes yanyana yatiyor.”
Meshur dar sokaklarini gezdim kuzenimle yillar
sonra. Her kapi baska bir renk. Her kapinin ardinda
baska inanclara sahip rengarenk insanlar. Balkonlari
pencerelerine, avlulari sokaklarina karismis. Bir
cikmaz yolun sonunda kapisinin guzelligini hala
unutamad igim bir kilise, iki adim ilerisinde falcilar
ve hemen yan sokakta bir turbe, onu da gecin, ileride
sagda mahallenin camisi. Alcak minareli, mutevazi.
Sinagoglar daha yukaridaymis, zaman yok dedi
kuzenim, gidemedim.
Yanyana, karsi karsiya, hem hayatta, hem olumde.
Uc din, bilmem kac
mezhep. Bir sehir.
Gidin gorun derim,
cok uzak degil. Olmadi,
yazin
bir
kosesine
guzel aklinizin, ileride
cocuklarinizi goturun.

Malzemeler (4 kişilik)
8 adet patlıcan (küçük ve çekirdeksiz olanlarından)
1 adet en büyük boy kuru soğan
2 adet taze sivri biber
4 adet orta boy, olgun ve kıpkırmızı domates
3 adet sarmısak
1 avuç taze nane
1 avuç maydanoz
Sıvı yağ
Zeytinyağı
Tuz
3 adet kesme şeker
Fırını 200 derecede ısıtın. Patlıcanların
kabuklarını sebze soyacağıyla tamamen
soyun. Sap bölümündeki yeşil kısımları
kesin ama sapını bırakın. Patlıcanların
acısının gitmesi için onları tuzlu su dolu
bir kabın içinde 15 dakika bekletin. Bu
süre sonunda yıkayın, hafifçe sıkıp
suyunu süzdürün ve kağıt havluyla
kurulayın. Bıçakla birkaç kere delin.
Patlıcanları bir fırın kabına tek sıra
halinde dizin. Üzerine bolca sıvı
yağ dökün. Fırına yerleştirin ve
yumuşayana kadar fırında kızartın.
Bıçak saplayarak pişip pişmediğini
kontrol edebilirsiniz. Eğer bıçak
kolayca
giriyorsa
yumuşamış
demektir. Bu arada soğanları
piyazlık doğrayın ve 3 yemek kaşığı
zeytinyağıyla beraber şeffaflaşana
kadar pişirin. Çekirdekleri çıkarılmış ve
ince halkalar halinde doğranmış biberleri
ekleyin. Biraz kavurun.
Domatesin kabuklarını soyun ve küçük küpler şeklinde
doğrayın. Sarmısakları ve domatesleri; soğanlı, biberli karışıma
ekleyin. Hepsini 5 dakika kadar orta ateşte pişirin. Tuzu ve
şekeri serpiştirin. Ardından doğranmış nane ve maydanozu
ekleyin. Biraz alt üst yapın ve ocağın altını kapatın. Patlıcanları
ortalarından, çok derin olmayacak şekilde, bir bıçak yardımıyla
kesin.
Tatlı kaşığıyla hafifçe bastırarak ve iteleyerek bir yuva yapın.
İçine domatesli iç malzemelerini koyun. Üzerine zeytinyağı
gezdirin ve 1 kahve fincanı kadar sıcak su ekleyin. Tekrar fırına
koyun ve 45 dakika kadar pişirin. Ilıyınca, güzel bir servis
tabağına dizin ve servis yapın.
Patlican Kebabi
Malzemeler (4 kişilik)
1/2 Kuşbaşı koyun eti (But Tarafından)
1/2 su bardağı zeytinyağı
1/2 kg domates
1 kg patlıcan
1 Kahve fincanı ince kıyılmış maydanoz
1 Çorba kaşığı margarin
2 su bardağı et suyu
1 tatlı kaşığı pul biber (miktarı arzuya göre)
1 tatlı kaşığı tuz (miktarı arzuya göre)
1 çay kaşığı karabiber (miktarı arzuya göre)
Patlıcanları alaca soyup, yuvarlak dilimler
halinde doğrayın. Üzerine tuz serpin, acı
sularının süzülmesi için 60 dk bekletip,
bol suda yıkayın ve süzülüp kurumaya
bırakın. Suyunu süzüp kuruttuğunuz
patlıcanları bir tavada zeytinyağı ile
kızartın.Kızarttığınız patlıcanları tavadan
çıkartıp fazla yağlarından süzüp bir tepsi
içersine dizin.
Diğer yanda kuşbaşı eti tencereye koyup
suyunu salıp çekinceye dek karıştırarak
kavurun, suyunu çektiğinde 1 çorba
kaşığı zeytinyağında karıştırarak hafifçe
kızartın, sonra da tepsiye önceden dizdiğiniz
patlıcanların üzerine düzgün bir şekilde
boşaltın.
Üzerine dökeceğimiz salça sosu için domateslerin kabuğunu
soyup çekirdeklerini çıkardıktan sonra çok ince bir şekilde
kıyın bunun üzerine baharatınızı ve tuzunuzu ekledikten sonra
margarinle tavada salça kıvamına gelene dek pişirip tepsideki
malzemenin üzerine dökün, ardından et suyunu da katıp orta
dereceli ateşte yaklaşık 10-15 dk kaynayıp suyunu çekene dek
pişirin ve ardından ateşten aldığınız patlıcanlı kebabı üzerine
maydanoz serpip servis yapın.

TAC A M
A new board has arrived to TACAM, but that’s not the only thing new
this season. TACAM.org has completely revamped its web-presence. The
changes are more than visual. The entire back-end has been greatly improved
allowing for more site visitor participation via comments, and possibly in
the future user accounts and photo uploading. We also hope the new site
delivers news faster and easier to you with a powerful archiving system and
pleasant photo gallery feature. All of this is wrapped within a streamlined
navigation, robust search and thoughtful layout. But of course we love it.
What’s more important is that you love it too. So please go to TACAM.org
and play around. Report any problems, comments or bugs to our special
e-mail [email protected] or post a comment directly onto the site. With over
a year in planning, there are numerous people to thank for their time and
input into this two-board-spanning project. It’s just another way the everchanging volunteers at the association provide exceptional dedication and
care at maintaining and promoting Turkish culture and community for both
you and the world-at-large.
Another new face is a re-introduction of the TACAM Seal. Originally
designed by Dr Kemal Göknar in the early 80s. The seal represented the
union of Turkey and America in Michigan. With this updated design, the
group in-charge of the overall “face-lift” to TACAM wanted to communicate
more with the seal. This latest incarnation includes the crescent of Turkey,
which is a political, religious, cultural and historical symbol of the Turks used
for centuries. This crescent, which embodies so much about Turkey, then
spreads its wealth through the stars outward. The stars represent a shared
symbol on both the Turkish and American flag, while their outward motion
conjures up the mission of TACAM to promote and spread Turkish culture to
the Turks in Michigan, but also abroad. And of course, the red background is
another common element between the flags. The olive branch on the left is
for peace and the wheat on the right signals the prosperity TACAM works to
be a part of.
We hope that all this change is welcome, but we also do not want to
keep anyone’s voice unheard. So please send us a note: either to any board
members or to [email protected]. It has been such a pleasure working
with this community and every moment is well worth the effort. I hope to
see all of you at the upcoming events!
