dried grapes, another a handful of chickpeas. With these
Noah cooked a dish containing seven different grains.
They satisfied their hunger with the abundance of the
Prophets. After the flood this was the first meal cooked on
the face of the earth, and thereafter it became customary to
eat this thanksgiving dish on the Day of Aşure.”
Aşure, a dish made with whole wheat grains, pulses
and dried fruits, embodies a message of sharing
life with all living creatures. It reminds us that
tolerance, unselfishness, gratitude and coexistence
are essential for a sustainable and abundant future.

Ünlü mutasavvıf “Pir-i Türkistan” Hoca Ahmet
Yesevi’nin Türkistan‘daki türbesinde bulunan
ve 12.yy.’a tarihlenen bronz aşure kasesinin
formundan esinlenerek tasarlanan Erenler Aşure
Kasesi’nde, bereketliliğin devamlılığını simgeleyen
stilize yağmur damlaları motifi kullanılmıştır.
Damlaların içlerinde Farsça yağmur anlamındaki
“Baran” kelimesi Divani hat yazı stili ile; ağız
kısmında Yağmur Duası Celi Divani hat yazı stili
ile yazılmıştır.

renkli opal camdan üretilmiştir ve
rölyef desenlerin tümü el işçiliği ile
dekorlanmıştır.
The design of the Erenler Aşure Bowl is
inspired by a 12th century bronze aşure bowl
in the mausoleum of the famous mystic Hoca
Ahmet Yesevi in Turkestan. The stylised
raindrop motif symbolises fertility and abundance.
Inside the raindrops the Persian word “Baran”,
meaning rain, has been inscribed in Divani script, and
around the rim is a Rain Prayer in Celi Divani script.

Şekerlik / Candy Bowl
Anaeli Şekerlik, Anadolu’da bereket ve
çoğalmanın simgesi olan el motifinin (*), İslam
kültüründeki “Fatma Ana Eli” veya “Hamse Eli” ;
Musevi kültüründe “Hameş” veya “Miriam’ın Eli”
olarak bilinen stilize şekliyle yorumudur ve bereketi
simgelemektedir. Üzerinde Kufi Hat yazı stili Ehl-i
Beyt isimleri, Anadolu kilim örneklerindeki bereket
motifleri desen olarak kullanılmıştır.
Anaeli Şekerlik el imalatı yeşil renkli camdan
üretilmiştir ve rölyef desenlerin tümü el işçiliği ile
ve 24 ayar altın yaldız ile dekorlanmıştır.
(*)Anadolu’da Fatma Ana Eli adı verilen baş dalı dikensi bir bitki
vardır. Doğum yapacak kadınların başucuna bir bardak suyun içine
koyulur. Ebe, doğum yapacak kadına “Fatma Ana Eli açılınca senin
de rahmin açılsın” diye dua eder. Bitki suyu yavaş yavaş emer ve sanki
bir el gibi açılır. Doğum yapacak kadınların bitkinin açıldığını görünce
psikolojik olarak rahatladığına ve daha kolay doğum yaptığına inanılır.
The Anaeli Candy Bowl is inspired by the stylised
hand motif (*) that is a symbol of fertility and
abundance in Turkey. In Islamic culture it is known
as the “Hand of Mother Fatma” or “Hamse Hand”,
and in Jewish culture as “Hamesh” or the “Hand
of Miriam”. The candy bowl is decorated with the
names of the Prophet’s family in Kufi script and
motifs symbolising abundance found on traditional
kilims woven in Anatolia.
The Anaeli Candy Bowl is handmade of green glass
and hand-decorated with designs cut in relief and gilded
in 24 carat gold.
(*) A wild plant known in Turkey as the Hand of Mother Fatma is used as sympathetic
magic in childbirth. The dried head of this plant is traditionally placed in a glass of water
next to a woman giving birth, and the midwife prays that the woman’s womb will
open as the plant’s head opens. As water soaks into the seed-head it opens like a hand.
Psychologically the woman is reassured by this sight and gives birth more easily.

The joy of sharing and enjoying the gifts of life and
plenty symbolized by the Aşure, a consequence
of peaceful coexistence, has been illustrated
by the designs of doves and pomegranates
on the bowl. The richness expressed
by differing views and angles of view is
stressed by the variegated reflections of the
outer relief on the inner surface, thanks to
the translucent color of the bowl.
The Sevinçli Aşure Bowl has been fabricated by
the addition of the white opal to the transparent glass in
predetermined proportions, before blowing. All the relief
designs are handmade.

Osmanlı Saray ve Konak halkının aşure
dağıtmakta kullandığı “Aşurelik” diye adlandırılan
büyük sürahilerin formundan esinlenerek
tasarlanan Hoşgörsen Aşure Sürahisi’nde, birlikte
yaşayabilmenin temel ihtiyacı olan “Hoşgörü”
kavramı vurgulanmaktadır. Sürahinin gövdesinde
modern hat yazı stili ile “Hoşgör!” yazısı yer
almaktadır, boyun kısmındaki stilize semazen
eteği ile, kulp üzerindeki rumi motiflerle Mevlevi
felsefesinin “Ne olursan ol; Gel!” deyişi sembolize
edilmiştir.

The Hoşgörsen Aşure Jug is inspired by the large jugs
once used for serving aşure at the Ottoman palace. The
design emphasises that tolerance and goodwill are vital for
peaceful coexistence. The inscription in modern calligraphy
on the body of the jug reads “Hoşgör!”, meaning “Show
goodwill!”. A motif representing the skirt of a whirling
Mevlevi dervish on the neck of the jug, and rumi motifs
on the handle symbolise the message central to mystic
Mevlevi philosophy, “Come, whoever you may be!”.
The Hoşgörsen Aşure Jug is handmade from cranberry
glass, and the lid is silver-plated copper. All the relief
designs are hand-decorated.

Nar ve üzüm salkımı bereketi simgeler. Ahtamara
Vazo’nun üzerindeki narlar ve üzüm salkımları Van
Gölü’ndeki Akdamar (Ahtamar) Adası’ndaki Surp
Haç Kilisesi’nin cephe motiflerinden alınmıştır.
Ortaçağ Ermeni sanatının en önemli eserlerinden
sayılan Surp Haç Kilisesi, kızıl andezit taşından
inşa edilmiştir. Adanın isminin nereden geldiği
hakkındaki efsanede farklı dinlerden oldukları için
birbirine kavuşamayan 2 gencin hüzünlü öyküsü
anlatılmaktadır.
Ahtamara Vazo, yaşamın ve bereketin sürekliliği
için hoşgörü, uzlaşma ve birlikte yaşayabilme bilinci
de gerektiğini, bereketin simgesi olan motifleri

The Ahtamara Vase is decorated with pomegranates
and bunches of grapes, motifs symbolising fertility and
abundance. These motifs are based on relief carvings
on the façade of the Church of the Cross on Akdamar
(Ahtamar) Island in Lake Van. This church is one of the
most important monuments of mediaeval Armenian art,
was built of red andesite. According to legend Ahtamar
Island was named after two lovers, who because of their
different faiths were obliged to renounce one another.
The name of the Ahtamara Vase represents the need for
goodwill and conciliation for peaceful coexistence, while
the decorative motifs symbolise fertility and abundance.

semah dönüşü ile üst düzeyde görsel bir estetiğe
ulaşmaktadır.
Semah Mumluk, hoşgörü kavramını insanlığa
en zarif formlarla sunan simgelerden semazen
eteğinden esinlenerek tasarlanmıştır.
İç kısmında Yunus Emre’nin “Nazar eyle itiri/
Bazar eyle götürü/ Yaradılanı hoşgör / Yaradandan
ötürü” dörtlüğü yer almaktadır.

The principle of goodwill expressed in Mevlevi mystic
philosphy by the message, “Come, whoever you may
be!” is symbolised by the whirling dance of the Mevlevi
dervishes. The design of the Semah Candle Holder is
inspired by the graceful billowing skirts of the dervishes.
On the inside is inscribed a quatrain by the 14th
century mystic poet Yunus Emre about loving the
created for the Creator’s sake.

The Başaklı Aşure Jug is based on the form of large
aşure jugs once used in Ottoman palaces and mansions.
The jug is decorated with relief wheatear motifs that
appear in four mythological scenes relating to Demeter,
the goddess of agriculture and abundance, and the bunches
of grapes and wheatears held by Tarkhu, the Hittite god
of storms and plants, in reliefs dating from 730 BC at
İvriz in the province of Konya.

The numerous ingredients of aşure are brought together
in a cauldron, where they are blended to create this dish
symbolising abundance and fertility. The cauldron is the
place where good intentions take tangible form, and so
itself represents life and peaceful coexistence.The form of
the Camkarakazan is based on an ancient cauldron in the
tekke of the 13th century Turkish mystic Bektaş-ı Velî.
This cauldron is believed to have been the gift of a Mongol
general and today stands in the tekke kitchen. For followers
of Bektaşi teachings the cauldron is a symbol of sharing the
blessings of the community equally between everyone.
The Camkarakazan Aşure Bowl has handles in the shape
of the Arabic letter waw, and the Bektaşi Aşure Prayer*
is inscribed on the inside. The bowl represents abundance,
fertility, wellbeing, goodwill and sharing.
The Camkarakazan Aşure Bowl is handmade of black
glass with relief designs that are entirely hand-decorated.
The handles are made of silver-plated copper.

May our fast of thanksgiving be accepted; the light and labours of aşure are a service to
God, the friend of abundance, with the submission of all courageous souls.
May our aşure and other food be accepted, and be righteous for all of us gathered here.
With the guiding light may four doors, four torches, and the forty souls be enduring.
May the abundance of the rich eye and heart be showered upon those who deserve
the aşure, those who recognise the share of the Prophet Noah, and all the members of

prosperous and united. May their lot in life be strong, may their hearts not
sorrow, may the divine attributes shine upon them, may their children

be with us all at the table of aşure in the name of Hızır.
By the hand of Hızır and the breath of God let shares in
this aşure be set on the table of Hallac-ı Mansur, Seyidi
Nesimi, Pir Sultan and all the martyrs, whether their
names be known or unknown, who have been burned
or buried in the name of righteousness. May Hızır assist
all those who with the nourishment granted by God come,
go, and take breath. By acceptance of his decision, avowal
of his road, submission to the way of God, may the essence
and word be as pure as corn. By the breath of each soul ready
to accept, let permission be given by our reverend leader. Proofs
of divine light, truths that breathe, watch over the acceptance of
the morself of aşure. May light shine upon the table of acceptance,
let his sight and his right be acknowledged. By the breath of our
reverend leader and acceptance of our congregation may Hızır aid us.

Aşure Kasesi / Bowl
Osmanlı döneminde aşure, “Saray Tatlısı”
unvanına sahip olmuş, yüzlerce yıl boyunca
İmparatorluk Sarayları’nda aşure kazanı kaynamış ve
pişen aşure halkla paylaşılmıştır.
Saray’ın lezzet bakımından en ünlü aşuresi,
1870 yılında Sultan Abdülaziz’in annesi Pertevniyal
Sultan’ın pişirdiği “Süzme Saray Aşuresi” ‘dir.
Pertevniyal Aşure Kasesi’nde, Pertevniyal Valide
Sultan Camii’den alınan bitki ve geometrik bezeme
motifleri kullanılmış, kapakta Valide Sultan’ın
mührü uygulanmıştır.
Pertevniyal Aşure Kasesi, el imalatı füme renkli
camdan beyaz opal kapaklı olarak üretilmiştir ve
kapak kulbu bakır üzerine gümüş kaplamadır.

In the Ottoman period aşure cooked at the palace
was renowned, and for centuries was distributed to
the poor.
During the Ottoman period the most famous
recipe for the Aşure, belongs to Pertevniyal
Sultan, the mother of Sultan Abdulaziz.
The Pertevniyal Aşure Bowl is decorated
with floral and geometric motifs based on the
decoration of Pertevniyal Valide Sultan Mosque.
On the lid is Pertevniyal Valide Sultan’s seal.

Saray’ın lezzet bakımından en ünlü aşuresi, 1870
yılında Sultan Abdülaziz’in annesi Pertevniyal
Sultan’ın pişirdiği “Süzme Saray Aşuresi” dir.
Tarifli Aşure Kasesi’nin kenarında Pertevniyal
Sultan’ın aşuresinin orijinal tarifi ve malzeme listesi;
tabanında Osmanlı Saray Mutfağı Aşçıbaşı gravürü
bulunmaktadır.

In the Ottoman period aşure was cooked in the
month of Muharrem and distributed to neighbours
and the poor. For centuries the Ottoman palace
followed this tradition, and the Aşure cooked at
the palace was the most famous of all.
The original recipe for the Aşure prepared
in 1870 by Pertevniyal Sultan, the mother of
Sultan Abdülaziz, is inscribed on the edge of
the Tarifli Aşure Bowl. An engraving depicting the
Chief Cook of the Ottoman Palace is reproduced on the
base of the bowl.
The Tarifli Aşure Bowl is handmade from cranberry
glass, and the relief motifs are engraved by hand and
gilded with 24 carat gold.

Hoşgörü Kazanı Aşure Kasesi, uzlaşmanın
öncelikle bir “niyet” olduğunu vurgulamaktadır.
Birlikte yaşayabilmek için hatalara değil, uzlaşma
niyetine odaklanmayı öğütleyen Mevlevi
felsefesindeki “Ne olursan ol; Gel!” deyişi, Hoşgörü
Kazanı Aşure Kasesi üstündeki semazenler ve rumi
motiflerle stilize edilmiştir. Osmanlı Aş Kazanı
formundaki Hoşgörü Kazanı Aşure Kasesi, el
imalatı beyaz opal camdan üretilmiştir ve rölyef
desenlerin tümü el işçiliği ile dekorlanmıştır.
The Hoşgörü Kazanı Aşure Bowl symbolises the
fact that conciliation begins with the intention to
coexist in peace and tolerance. The 13th century
mystic philosopher Mevlânâ gave this advice
in his writings, epitomised by his famous words,
“Come, whoever you may be!”. These words are
represented symbolically by decorative rumi motifs
and figures of Mevlevî dervishes performing their
whirling dance on the cauldron of goodwill.

mucizelerin gerçekleştiğine inanıldığı tarihtir. Nuh’un
Gemisi’nin Cudi dağında karaya oturması, semavi
dinleri getiren peygamberlerin doğum günleri, Adem
ile Havva’nın cennetten çıkarılışının tarihi
10 Muharrem olarak kabul edilir.
10 Muharrem, sürüp giden hayatın içindeki hüzünlü
olayların da tarihidir; İmam Hüseyin’in şehit edildiği
Kerbela katliamı 10 Muharrem tarihlidir.
Hayatın sevinçlerle ve hüzünlerle birlikte sürmesi;
sürebilmesi, bir şükran vesilesidir ve Şükreden Vazo, birlikte

10 Muharram (the tenth of the First month of the Arabic
calendar) is the date believed to be the date on which miracles
took place. The Noah’s Ark’s (the ship in which Noah, his
family and the animals were saved) resting on the mountain of
Ararat and the birthdates of monotheistic religions are assumed
to have taken place on the tenth of Muharram. This date
represents the tragic history of the ongoing incidents in the world.
Again, the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of
Eden is said to have taken place on the said date, and among
the Shi’ites, “Aşure” is a major festival, commemorating the
death of Husayn, son of Ali and grandson of Muhammad, on
the 10th of Muharram, AH 61 (Oct. 10, 680), in Karbala
(present-day Iraq).
The fact that life is carried on in which sorrows are compensated
by joys is a phenomenon deserving to be thankful for; thus, the
vase symbolizes peaceful existence despite all the vicissitudes of life.

glass is the outcome of the skill of dexterous hands in applying
special glass dyes.
